  • The elusive and rare “Blueberry” GMT-Master is essentially just a regular reference 1675 from the 1970s that was originally fitted with an all-blue bezel insert. Blueberry GMT's are most commonly fitted with the GMT Mk. 3 dial variant referred to as a "radial" dial due to the smaller sized lume plots. Unlike the other colors of bezel inserts that have been available for the GMT-Master line of watches, the all-blue insert of the “Blueberry” GMT is not something that Rolex ever officially offered as an option at any of their regular authorized dealers. The entirely blue, GMT bezel insert was manufactured in small numbers primarily for the Eastern market during the 1970s, and reserved exclusively for special orders by select retailers and military groups. Some examples can be found with the UAE Air Force emblem on the dial.

I have a 1970 2774xxx serial Pepsi on a folded jubilee 6251H however can confirm it was originally on a rivet oyster. Any idea if the JB USA made oval jubilee would have been standard in the US if a Jubilee was chosen when new? Speaking of rarities in Rolex production, many 1970 serial number 1675's such as with mine demonstrate a thinner lower crown guard than the top. If google the 1970 1675, it occurs on quite a bit of 1970's only. At first I thought it to be due to over polishing but it's not. It's almost like when the crown opening was milled - drilled, it was off slightly in the jig.

Yep, I know exactly what you are talking about, it almost looks like the underside of the crown guards slant upwards its a very cool case variant for sure. RE JB jubilee (yes in 1970 in my experience a JB Jubilee or a C+I oyster bracelet would have been the standard option in 1970. Rolex had bands made for their watches imported to the USA in the mid 60's earliest I have seen is 1966 by my memory, as you know this was done to avoid the tariffs on "complete watches" at the time.. This was as a result of lobbying from the strong, at the time, US Watch manufacturers. That law was changed in the late 70's, when the quartz movement drove almost all US watch manufacturers out of business, so there was no longer any need to source bracelets "locally". C&I, JB, and Mexican and Canadian sources were used... I would say based on this History of Rolex wanting to avoid the "complete watches " taxation would be mid 1960's additionally JB Watchbands went into bankruptcy and was no longer in business by the year 1985, but rolex and the AD's not being wasteful

I’ve heard these bezels were not even made at Rolex by Rolex but were aftermarket parts added by some retailers in eastern countries. And then I’ve heard it was a service option through Rolex for a few years…but that can’t be true if Rolex never made the part, right?? I’m confused and before I spend the kind of money this guy is asking for one I’m looking at, I’m going to need a more concrete explanation of what exactly I’m buying. The watch has no provenance but it’s a genuine 1675 on original bracelet with original dial and hands. Anyone know anything, definitively?

As he stated, the UAE military special ordered them with the Emirati Falcon on the dial at 6 O'clock. They are super cool.
