10:40 "Neptune has fourteen known moons, which are named after water deities in Greek mythology." Ah yes, the Ancient Greek scriptures tell the stories of the mighty sea god "S/2004 N1".
You are not suposed to say its name, now it will hunt you down, and make your socks a bit wet each time you go outside during rain!
Baltic Pagan Bruh that’s a War Crime
Now it's officially known as Hippocamp :D
Don't be dumb. It's a God's name in the future Greek mythology.
I want to go to Neptune's Moon Triton ❄
It’s such a coincidence that Neptune was named after the god of the sea before it was even discovered to be blue 100 years ago.
No coincidence at all.
@@theMarcSolo elaborate?
1:32 See, that´s a point I NEVER understood about astronomy: You say, we know how Neptune looks, after Voyager 2 arrived. Have we a consistent online data connection to it? Really? HOW??
I mean, I only learned mechatronic technician for 3 and a half years but at such vast distance, the further away Voyager 2 gets, wouldn´t it take THE further more time for the data it collects to travel BACK to earth??
I mean, that data has to travel in SOME way, right? It doesn´t travel instantly and I´m sure, we don´t have a long chord attached to Voyager 2 at all time....
So what is it? Am I right and Voyager 2 has just travelled WAAAAAY past that point a long ass time ago or what am I misunderstanding here?....
I never knew the answer or anyone who could tell me.....
@@chanceneck8072 what are you talking about? Are you not understanding that Voyager 2 communicates information via radio back to Earth at the speed of light and that Neptune is only 4.2 light hours away from Earth?
@@chanceneck8072 Are you young? I didn't know there were people who still don't know about wireless connections. Radio waves are the same thing as light waves but are just invisible to the human eye--which means they travel at the speed of light. Everything that is wireless(like your phone) and sends/receives information from outside of itself(like CZcams) uses radio/light waves.
im neptune thank you for making me on the spotlight
Dearest Majesty, what an honour to meet you! I adore you, and wished I would be able to make a visit! But I am only a little human, a nothing; compared to Your Majesty and the eternal space, I do not even exist.
You are in my heart and soul. The moment I will die, my soul will be free, and I will make a flight through space. When I was small, my Mama told me this would be true one day, and she is now on her trip. It is so sad for us tiny humans, if another human leaves us, but everytime, when I think she is free now and visits you and every other interesting spot in universe, I think it is greedy to long she could have stayed with me forever. We little stupid and boring humans are nothing, compared with you, my beloved Majesty.
I wished I could watch the space from you. One day... :)
You are welcome dear! Don't feel sad and left out okay? I know you are very far from me, but you live in my heart every day! I love you a lots and you are the most different planet from all of them. As you know your discovery was / Your existence was special and so your characteristics are. Every day with every news you amaze me and bring tears of joy. I know its cold out there and you and Triton are freezing. But one day our Sun will grow into a big boy and give you more heat okay? Its a promise! I know I won't exist when that time comes, but remember you will always be my fav planet and I will always love you. My home is Earth, but you are my heart!
Neptune you're really pretty
Neptune hi nice to meet you I like you because your blue ( IM BLUE LALADEbalade)
Neptune You're such a mysterious and dream like planet I really do have dreams imagining what it would be like if Neptune had an atmosphere it would be a dream come true to see what's under the gas and get a visual map of the land! Stay beautiful bby:(((
For those of you saying the planet is scary, well, yeah it is. Supersonic winds, instant death cold ,and primarily ice and rock.
Meh. You get used to it. Then it's just seems normal.
Saturn is scarier, there is no coming back from the dark star.
Actually, calling these winds supersonic is a bit of a stretch. If a layer of atmosphere is moving at supersonic speed vs surface does not mean anything scary unless this layer actually is in contact with surface. If you are in this layer, you wouldn't even know, as you will be moving with it. There should be a strong vertical gradient of wind speed and winds at surface probably are not at supersonic. Supersonic has only a meaning where it is something that is going at a relative velocity to the fluid. If the whole fluid has this speed it does not matter much.
There's no rock. It's a gas planet.
@@ReferenceMA Although it's a gas giant, I reckon there's a little chunk of rock in there, somewhere. Mind you, when water is frozen that solid, it's like rock, anyway.
I spend a large (arguably unhealthy) amount of time learning about the planets, so it's not too often anymore that I learn something new, especially not something as shocking as Neptune having moons that take a quarter century to orbit! I looked it up afterwards, and Neptune's outermost moon Neso actually orbits further away from it than Mercury does from the Sun! Thanks for adding that fact in this video, it was genuinely mind-blowing to me.
Its the same distance from Earth to Venus as well 26-30 million miles. At its closest to the Sun Mercury is 29 million miles from the Sun. At it's farthest Mercury is 43 million miles from the Sun. The reason why Neso and it's other moons are so far away is because of Neptune's hillsphere. Neptune's gravity is stronger than the Sun's gravity out Neptune so the Planet can grab objects from far away.
I suffer from the same issue
Yo that's fucking crazy!
You should take time to learn about astronomy. Buy some textbooks or something.
Neptune is the coldest planet in the solar system
A few days ago I finally managed to locate Neptune, my favourite planet, through my small telescope. I didnt see much - just a little bright dot accompanied by a field star - but that beautiful experience of seeing it with my own eyes will stay with me for a long time. Thanks for the great video!
Were you able to see any kind of blue tint?
@@DaDaDo661 yes. There was a small star near Neptune in my field of view so I could compare. The star was white - yellowish but the planet was a tiny blue dot - a distant beautiful world.

The scale of the universe is what freaks me out. Neptune is so far away, and yet in universal scale it is practically touching us. Traffic jam can ruin our entire day, yet a million years is a heart beat in the universe. Also, people who discover planets and engineer satellites and probes, they are so much smarter than I am (and I do think myself above average) it is funny they are considered to be from the same specie as I am.

Love the last line ... all tha various things that had to come together and workout to get this one magical moment.

your life is at risk, but go ahead. but this is the trip of a lifetime.
Its 2017 and life is ordinary, whether it is yours or mine. Its not going to be special, unless we do something useful with it...
Here are the problems:Neptune is an ocean world surrounded by hydrogen gas and cold temperatures. If you went to Neptune with a magic ship which floats on water and you open the windows. You will get hit by very fast winds and your ship would get filled with Methane and hydrogen gas and water. I think that it will react with the oxygen in your ship and fill your ship with water out of nowhere. If neptune was in the goldilocks zone, the hydrogen liquid will turn into gas and rise into the atmosphere. So you better be careful or else you might just drown in the oceans of neptune. Beautiful Blue Planet.
