I used FE Builder to make a gauntlet map to test gba fire emblem characters against every other class in the game. This installment features Canas as our champion, and we can compare her performance against Roy, Lilina, Hector, Ross, Lyn, Amelia, and all the future units we will test in the gauntlet.
We need to see some bad units? It looks like it's time for my boy Batre to prove he isn't actually that bad!

@@michaelbainbridge7335 ...Well actually, now I think about it, FE8 does have that glitch that allows you to basically give anyone the Mogall's magic, which is an unranked Dark Magic weapon, so you can give literally any unit dark magic, even healers and Tethys... but that does involve using a glitch so I doubt he's gonna use that.
@@ShadowdaHedgie11 I also doubt it, but if he actually does allow it, that would mean I would get to see Natasha have her turn in the gauntlet.
@@michaelbainbridge7335 ...If I remember right, Natasha has really bad defence. So i honestly wouldn't see it going to well for her since most of the units in the gauntlet are physical attackers.

Canas is my favorite unit too, probably because he's the only dark user and his supports were fun.

I wish someone made a 3D model of him! Would of used him once we got a Eliwood Gantlet run but there is no 3D model of him that I can use (I used SFM for this)

YOOOOOOO!!!!!!! That intro was sick! Reminds me of PS1 game intros that always got me hyped as a kid (like Final Fantasy 8)
Also, as per usual, I would love to see how Kent & Sain (my precious boys) would do hitting their combined heads against this wall (cause even though it should be one-at-a-time for fairness sake, I just can't picture one without the other)
Its that time again. Gonzales with a Devil Axe Bonus round sounds like it could be really fun, between the backfire and hit rate. These videos never fail to entertain! Good work!

Edit: I suspect a promoted gauntlet featuring Renault would achieve the much-coveted struggles you seem to be looking for.
Have you considered doing Promoted Runs against promoted enemies, to show the difference in how the units perform in early game vs late game?

Let's GOOOO! Love seeing Canas as he's one of my favorite units despite flux's animations. He did much better than I expected. Gotta vote for any flying unit next. Either a Pegasi or a wyvern would be cool to round out the types of units that have hit the gauntlet!
I would pick Fe7 Florina or Fiora.
As flyers
Luna is the thing Canas is famous for but people underestimate how cracked Flux is. 8 Might is Thunder Damage and 80 hit is also pretty nice. Also Canas just loses 1 Speed while having overall pretty good speed so it doesnt hurt him as much. Flux is literally his best tome, the Luna Meme only exists because of the dragon. Also after his promo he has 8 Con which makes him not get slowed down by Flux at all. Canas is great
Luna isnt really a meme though? hes just as accurate with it as he is with Flux and Flux doesnt really give him matchs up where Luna struggles.....plus Luna's crit bonus is always nice
@@ohandthefracking Of cause Luna has its merrits, otherwise it would not be used on him. My point is that people focus far to much on "Haha Luna Crit the Dragon" that they often forget that Flux is the far better tome for everyday use. Not every Enemy has so much Resistance that it would makes Luna useful.
@@holschermarc tbf its kinda true too...FE7 enemy quality is dogshit and only select bosses or Bishops have actual res stat to the point where using Flux would be better

Canas is pretty speedy for a shaman, huh?
-And that's why Dark Mage is so slow, it's not to do with the weight, it's to do with the animations!-
Also I think that's one of the few times I've heard someone suggest that a pre-promote is the best unit of their class... the other times are people arguing that Seth and Marcus are the best paladins.

Hmm, a suggestion for a bad unit... I wanna say 'Eliwood' but I think he'll do better than I think, because I just tend to have bad luck with Eliwood's level ups. Ewan would have been another suggestion, but considering how well Canas did, I dunno... Knoll also springs to mind, but his result could vary quite a bit, it'd depend on what unit lands a crit on him first...
Maybe Bartre, just to see if his boasting lives up to reality?
I was also half expecting his fun run to be Nosferatu, just watch him regain all his health every fight xP

Btw are enemies meant to have a normal mode penalty because the 20 stats are wrong "I thought nomads were faster" the nomad should be 14 speed so I assume its just a normal mode penalty error
There's 2 levels of hard mode bonuses in the gauntlet iirc, so sometimes they roll up or down on stats
@BadAtFireEmblem why not make the stats averaged out on their level?
Of course the beloved monocle man would prevail!

Thanks for doing Canas! His stats were worse than I expected but he performed pretty well. I’d like to see Lute as she has an obscene magic stat but I feel like she’ll perform pretty similarly to Canas, especially with being weighed down by her basic tome…

I say Lucius or Artur next, another magic unit and with light magic would be interesting in the gauntlet.
It'd be fun to see a pair of christmas cavs (e.g. Sain and Kent, or Kyle and Forde) both run the gauntlet and see who does better
If there is Kent and Sain, it should include Lowen probably, and thus we have 3 units better than Will the archer.

I tried to use Canas in my FE7 run but he just couldn’t do well. Still kept him around until the end, if I remember correctly he started being alright in the final few maps. No one could match up to my absolutely blessed Rebecca though.
I have been trying to use for combat on my ironman attempts. But it turns out he's best with a healing staff on hand.

Huh. I didn't expect this either, even though Canas is my favourite unit. I'm used to Canas needing an early promo to function well, as he gets 4 AS + staves from it.
But apparently "pretty good" stats and magic just gets you there haha. I guess his AS of 11 is exactly what Marcus starts with, and he onerounds half of FE7. Targeting Res almost puts them on equal footing offensively which is neat
Great video and I've subscribed. Canas is one of the best units in FE7, I knew he would do pretty well. For a magic user he is bulky defense wise, and can reach around 21 defense maxed out. With nosferatu, that is just so broken.

@@miguelceromil In Mekkah's FE7 0% Growths Ironman, he only had Jaffar, Hector, Fiora, and Nils deployed for the second-to-last map, the one with a zillion enemies and Limstella. With some very careful planning and a ton of killing edges and fort camping -- Jaffar was literally able to beat the map and save the run. (Athos makes Light almost too easy, he can solo the map if you have a backup body ring, at least one Elixir, and Luna/Purge).

An archer would be really interesting since being unable to counter at 1 range is a relevant weakness against way more enemies than not being able to counter at 2 range. Might finally result in getting a bad unit on the board?

Level 20 Troubador. ~15 Mag and Skill.
Unbreakable Unlock, Sleep and Berserk.
2 range on Unlock plus canto should actually be useful.
She'll have about 15 Mag and Skill, which equates to 120 hit with Berserk and Sleep.
Enemy avoid is Res*5 + range*2. So Priscilla should actually have solid hit rates.
I predict 15 kills, no need for healing. The issue is that the child's res is high enough that her odds of berserking it are really low.
One of the things that makes Canas so great is access to Nosferatu and Luna, which are busted good, so I didn't expect him to do very well with just Flux (which isn't particularly great).
Love Canas. He and Sain carried my FE7 playthrough.

At some point I'll work out how to best implement prepromotes, but there's several ways of doing it and I have no idea what's the best option
Ross needs his hatchet! I feel like if he had the hatchet he would not only make it to Deathica, but probably even do the most damage to her with okay defense and 1-2 range (heal on player phase?)

Honestly because of his class I feel like canas should be able to make it mid way while die at the wyvern knight or one before it in his better form. He’s a glass canon but if he crits enough he should do fine

I feel like the tie breaker should be vulns left, or even theoretical HP left (e.g. if you're at 13 HP and have 4 vulns left, that's 53HP)
Canas always has the feel of a hidden character for me since I sucked at the game as a kid and never got the gaiden chapter to obtain him. Since he's the only dark magic user in FE7, I was always confused when I could get flux spells in shops but didn't have a dark magic user. Now that I'm better at the game, he's always one of my top performers in my play-throughs!

If we want a bad unit, though, I still think Dorcas should be chosen. His terrible speed growth should have him unable to double almost all enemies and get doubled by all the sword users. If he can somehow make it through the sword users, he'd definitely get completely destroyed by the mages.
I wonder how he would've done with Nosferatu as his fun weapon. The idea of a fun round is, well, fun--I look forward to them! Unfortunately, I don't think Priscilla, my favorite unit, would get that far...

I think if you want a unit that will largely struggle with the arena, you’ll need a unit with low res, and that’s Barth. Man has a whopping 1 res and I think he’ll be using a lot of vulnerary uses on the 2 hits he’ll be taking from magic users
How many units? My guess was first 4, before I remembered vulneraries are in use. So 12 units was my final guess. Pretty sure that pegasus knight would have taken him down without healing, so I was spot on there, but was shocked by the amount of doubling/not getting doubled that happened after that. If I knew that, I might have guessed 16, but I'm not certain... crazy how fast Canas actually is/can be.

I feel like you should record the runs and then comment over the recording so you can focus on playing the run well when you do it.
Also yeah luna is mainly good because of how it shreds lategame bosses or promoted units, against the average unit it's not that good (but the average unit rarely pose a threat either so it's not an issue). It also works much better when your own unit is high level and the weapon might is a low proportion of it's power (because it makes the extra crit much better then)

I really enjoyed the intro, I just think you should cut off the music playing from the intro after you cut away from it. It kind overstayed its welcome playing throughout the whole video and doesn’t match the chill vibe the other gauntlet episodes give because of it

You want some thieves huh? Well, there's always Matthew. A man who will always have incredible utility but ties for the lowest strength averages among thieves with Cath, but Cath gets some hard mode bonuses that give her some other stats. Matthew meanwhile has absolutely awful luck on average, so he's going to take a beating from that soldier.
