2020 Hellcat Charger gets a 180 Thermostat.

  • I have put these 180 degree thermostats in a few different scat packs with no tune with great results. It is true that you need a tune, changing the fan settings to take full advantage of the lower temps. But this does fairly well with out a tune. Temps stay in the 185 to 195 degree range for 98% of my driving, and with the other scats i did it on i never saw the 220 degree mark in traffic like I had with the factory 203 degree t-stat.

    Mine gets to about 220 when in reverse like pulling into my garage. Everything works properly, fans kick on and such, would this help me?

    Hey bud I didn't see you pull a little Allen screw out to burp the air out of the system do you do that while the car is running or you let it run for a while and then you pop the screw when you get the air out? And without a fan tune what kind of temperatures do you run as I'm thinking about putting a 180 in my Hellcat

    • @KnightsGarage
      @KnightsGarage  Před 4 lety +2

      OLDSCHOOL RICHIE RICH I did not do that at all. As long as you have the wiggler valve straight up when you install the thermostat, then is should burp the air out after one drive and cool down. So I filled the coolant reservoir with what came out, replaced the cap, started the car and drove it for a few min. Then returned home and let it cool down. I haven’t really ever had a problem doing this in these cars. I am seeing the same temps i did with out a tune in my two 392 cars. I have a video on it in my 2018 scatpack album if you want to see it. They are around 185 to 192 most of the time. Of course with not tune if you idle for a long time, or get in heavy traffic they will go back close to stock temps but come back down when cruising at speed.

    My car wants to heat up when I’m parked would this help? I have a 2016 hellcat charger

    • @KnightsGarage
      @KnightsGarage  Před 4 lety +2

      They will all heat up when sitting idle for long periods, Especially when it’s hot outside. This does however help that in my Experience. Takes a lot longer to heat up than before when sitting idling also I would see temps as high as 220 if the factory thermostat and I haven’t gotten above to12 with this one and that was one day when we were looking at houses and the car was pretty much idling for an hour or two. Soon as I started driving it cooled right back down to about 186.

    • @KnightsGarage

      I believe that depends on the climate. If you live in a cold climate like 30 degrees or below You may have issues. But even in winter here in Alabama I’ve never gotten a CEL even in the winter time on my scatpack before I did a tune and my current 2020 hellcat.

      I know they run these hemi’s hot from the factory. I have a couple videos from when I have my 2018 scat talking about this. But I only got to 215 220 in traffic on hot days. Not when it was 38 degrees.

    Were your fans ever over worked due to the thermostat change? I’ve heard some say yes, others say no

    • @KnightsGarage
      @KnightsGarage  Před 4 lety +1

      Considering they come on at a higher temp I don’t see how they could be overworked by putting a lower degree thermostat in. It would make them run less.
      I have heard of fans being over worked in cars that have gotten a tune with a stock thermostat installed Because most tuners across-the-board lower your fan on temperatures to promote better cooling for the car. Cooler engine = a happier engine to a certain point.

    • @KnightsGarage
      @KnightsGarage  Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@Srt_Kev I think the code has to do with the amount of time it takes to come up to a certain temp. I think it Hass to hit like 160 or so within a certain amount of time or you get the code so if you start up and start driving and it’s cold, since the thermostat begins to open sooner, it will take longer to achieve that temperature.
      Like I said, I did it in three different chargers, and none of them experienced a check engine light

    I think you do not need a tune because you are lowering the temp. that would have to save fan life, right the fan would have to run less
    if you are lowering temp. If am wrong someone explain it to me. Why change the tune? So I say the engine will last longer because it runs
    cooler and the fan life should improve because it will run less. Call me if you want 406 231 3649 I have a 2018 Hellcat.
