      @streamx3m I love your list. Maybe i'd put Wisdom higher and i'd swap Pathfinding and Water Magic with something between Intelligence, Sorcery or Resistance. But i just love playing with magic more, and it also depends on the map anyway - i'd prioritize Pathfinding on a snow map ofc.

    One thing that is overlooked about Fire Magic is the effect of the Blind spell. So, if you attack a blinded enemy, it will retaliate when awakened from blind, but depending on the fire magic skill, it will be either 50% of normal damage (basic fire magic/none at all) , 25% dmg (advanced) and NO RETALIATION on expert Blind. SO, you cast expert Blind on an enemy, then cast slow, then you can attack it with a powerful unit , attack it with archers and then blind it again before it has a chance to act.

    Diplomacy is banned in competitive games. Same as navigation. Also, some spells such as Dimension door, berserk, Fly are also banned.
    1. Logistics is a MUST have in competitive games. Ballistics is also a must have if you play a faction with a bad late game or you have a bad start.
    2. Learning, Eagle eye, first aid, Mysticism, Sorcery and artillery are useless skills that should be avoided at all costs.
    3. Estates, Scholar and Pathfinding are only good on secondary heroes... Search them at all costs for secondary heroes.
    4. Necromancy is a specialized skill only useful for Undead.
    5. Magic resist > Armour > Offense (but all are good on every hero)
    6. Archery is good only if you play Tower, Stronghold or Dungeon heroes and quite niche if you play castle/Conflux/ Rampart. It is also good on secondary heroes that defend the castle. Avoid at all cost on the rest.
    7. Luck is extremely good in almost all situations especially if you do not have water magic. Leadership is niche.
    8. Water magic / Earth magic >Air magic > Fire magic. It also depends if you play a mage or not and other factors such as Wisdom/Intelligence

    I'd like to contest the opinion on Artillery. During a siege, your arrow towers will get to fire before a catapult, giving you the first cast even if the enemy has ballistics. On top of that, having a cannon allows you to damage the drawbridge without investing in ballistics, which means you get some of the benefits of ballistics without having a dead skill for 95% of the game, allowing your melee non-fliers to get inside quicker. Besides, the cannon's not useless without cannon specialty. You need to get some serious levels going before the cannon specialty starts to shine in any meaningful way, and you're just never going to have a hero that high level. At level 30, your cannon gets +5 to its attack. Trust me, if you're level 30 you wont notice 5 extra attack between all the colosseums, merc camps and artifacts you've picked up.
    In short, it's not useless because you aren't a cannon specialist. Cannon is just good regardless of specialty

    For some skills it really depends on the town you're playing. For example - water is arguably the weakest magic, however swamp can really benefit from it since hydra teleport is one of the best battle strategies for that town, and bless is really helpful as well. Same thing with leadership - you don't typically prioritise it, but in inferno or necro you should consider it as one of your main skills. Because main strategy there is farming, and you almost always have a lot of different units (i know it doesn't apply to certain maps, especially smaller, but on these maps you don't play these towns). And archery on s-m sized map can win you a lot of games (you clear the map much faster), especially when playing rampart

      Can you explain the "leadership on necro" part a bit more? I feel like I miss something, but wouldn't it be pointless and hard to pull off since necromansers can't fish out leadership naturally and undead are unaffected by leadership?
      (Sorry, I'm not that good, return to the game couple of times per year, but would be interested in learning new strategies)

    • @januszwpierdoldrugi6262
      @januszwpierdoldrugi6262 Před 2 lety +4

      @@user-mb1ym5ck8v Well, since your army in most cases will be skeletons, vampires, some liches, maybe dark knights and the rest from different towns, morale is important here. Of course, heroes from necro can't learn leadership (that's why i always starting with artifact hoping to get morale one), but you don't always main "native" hero, and you often have a few good heroes, not just one. Thus i would for sure take this skill sooner or later, since it's more convenient than trying to carry an artifact on the right hero everytime

      @@user-mb1ym5ck8v Thanks for the question! Actually Death Knights and Necromancers are not able to roll Leadership as they level up, so the only way to get the skill would be through a scholar or a witch hut (or main a non necro hero).
      While undead units cannot get positive (or negative) morale, an argument can be made for leadership when you're playing necro, because necro troops in your army decrease your morale, and you're likely to have units in your army like wyvern/angels/cyclopes/giants that will be affected by morale, so if you can get leadership, it will help offset the negative morale from the necro troops.

    2 earth magic
    3 offence
    4 logistics
    5 armourer
    6 archery
    7 intelligence
    8 water magic/tactics
    Mysticism could be buffed by adding additional spell points gained in proportion to the total spell points of the hero. Eg. at expert level gain 15 mana +30% of the total spell points of the hero. In that way, a hero which has 150 total spell points does not have to wait 10 rounds but only 2.5 rounds. Moreover, ballistics, artillery, and first aid could be combined into one skill.

      Heroes 5 listened to your advice about making ballistics, artillery and first aid into one primary skill: War machines lmao :)
      It is alot more useful in heroes 5 instead of being dead skills because ballista actually is kinda dangerous in H5 and tents can revive.
      In heroes 3 though, first aid is utterly useless, just better than eagle eye. Artillery is useful for high attack heroes like barbarians or certain other might heroes, and ofcource for cannon like he said in the video. Ballistics can be pretty neat on big maps with alot of towns and alot of sieges, to save time breaking in and to destroy towers thus reducing damage taken.

      If you haven't already figured it out by. now:
      1. Hives: external buildings that you can hire extra units from. T1 units come free, T2+ are purchasable but not free. Also if you flag a hive say centaurs, and have a town where you can hire centaurs then you'll get more centaur production in that town. If you have a dungeon town and build a portal of summoning then flagged hives will be hirable from the portal of summoning. Hives and portal of summoning refreshes every week.
      2. Hero chaining is where you grab units off your main hero and leave the fastest units on him/her. Then you hand them back at the start of the turn and they get maximum movement. You can also "bucket brigade" troops from hives and towns to your main hero so he gets fresh units as often as you can find or hire them and not have to waste precious movement points going back to town to get more troops. Main tip is to always leave the fastest unit stack on your main hero so he starts the turn with your fastest unit and can move the furthest on next turn, and always return troops before you start moving again. Be careful stripping units off your main hero if you are near enemy territory. You don't want to get attacked when you are nearly empty! One more tip would be to leave 1 (or better a couple) of faster units of speed 7+ on your scouts so they can move further. Have more than 1 if you are near enemy territory so you can flee combat and not be killed off by 1 magic arrow.
      3. Most things reset every week on day 1, including creature hives, creature buildings in your towns, certain locations you can visit for resources like windmills, leprechauns, etc. And stables gives you a massive movement boost for the rest of the week. Visit stables on day 1 with all the heroes that you are scouting or fighting with if you can, and try to plan to visit the buildings that hand out resources during the week if you can.

    I would put ballistics much higher -- going first is very useful during a castle siege, so you can cast expert slow and do a lot of damage before the opposing army can do much. I see that Horn of the Abyss (HOTA) changed many of these secondary skills since I almost always take intelligence for my primary necro magic hero since it's 2x in HOMM3 complete instead of +50%. Mysticism is completely useless in HOMM3 complete but a little bit more useful in HOTA. Having 1000+ mana in the end game is very useful for dimension dooring all over the place or casting animate dead over and over again when I'm outmatched in a battle.

Rest of skills or useless on a Main; I do like a side and support hero’s with Scholar Wisdom Earth and air Magic also pathfinding scouting estates.

      Good question. It would depend on what sort of hero I'm going for, spellcaster or warrior. For a warrior it would probably be.... earth, air, logs, offense, armorer, interference, tactics, and maybe archery, if no ranged units then maybe leadership. I wouldn't take wisdom usually because you generally rely on tomes/spellbinders hat for magic, which you don't need wisdom for.
      For a spellcaster hero ofc they start with wisdom, and they can't get interference, so I might take fire magic instead of that, and maybe sorcery instead of archery/leadership.

    Hi! Thanks for detailed info! Very interesting!
    First two, I like are earth and air magic. Fire is third and water is fourth in row of magic skills. Sorcery and intelligence are 5 and 6, eagle eye and mysticism , learning are totally useless. Offence and armor are very good, shooting only in case of good shooting army of the town. Luck,morale are less useful. Ballistics, scouting, healing, catapult are absolute thrash. Estates are completely stupid.
    There were some mods with rebalanced skills.
    Ballistics, catapult and healing were combined into one.
    Eagle eye led to learn additional spell every week, estates were increasing population growth. Percentage of increasing magic power was increased and others tunning that was really good
    It made stupid skills better.

Especially if you can get Leena (Cove), because she has Estates as starting skill and her specialty is +350 gold. If you can get her in the beginning, she can provide 1350 gold every day from second week. That is 9450 every week.

I personally prefer blind (I reckon it's FM) to slow, as I need to get rid of shooters at first. Moreover, during the siege, there's little point slowing enemies IMO, when they're just peeking out behind the walls. Thanks in advance whether you agree or disagree.

      Hi Gabriel!
      Thanks for the kind words, and I'm glad my videos are helping you!
      To answer your questions:
      What supporting hero you would have for Luna would depend on what heroes you get in the tavern and the map/break. I did make a hero tier list video if you haven't seen it yet - czcams.com/video/DGsMhBzQY54/video.html - most of the heroes on this list would make solid supports. But as a more general answer I would say that any good warrior hero with good skills would be great to have as a support for Luna, in case there are fights in the center that Luna cannot do with her firewall.
      Regarding the second question. You do have to start learning hero chaining as soon as possible. I understand what you mean, it is quite difficult to learn how to do it well, and at 0 rating it won't really matter, but between 100-200 rating you will already run into players who will be breaking 121 or even 117/116, so without proper chaining you will lose quite a bit. I do have guides on hero chaining as well, if you haven't seen them here they are:
      czcams.com/video/aq6RReZzIcc/video.html
      czcams.com/video/FmqFleTXn90/video.html

    I have played this game continuously for more than 20 years. I only play on the largest random map possible with the hardest difficulty and with 8 players, and since hota the maps have gotten even bigger. my personal top 5 skills for gigantic maps + underground are:
    1. Diplomacy
    Starting from 3th month. This is becomes my main way to recruit new creatues. I get hundreds of black dragons and archangels in lategame. Which makes this super overpowered.
    2. Wisdom
    Dont think this need explanation. Its just essential. But sometimes enemy npc have the red orb that removes magic from battle. Which is the only problem. But by then I would have alot creatures to win the battle because of diplomacy, which makes diplomacy the number one.
    3. Air magic
    Logistics is useless if ur a air magic user. U dont need to walk. U just teleport 4 times a day. If u have the air orb that enhances air magic. U can teleport even more times which covers more distance than logistic ever could.
    4. Earth magic
    With expert earth magic u can teleport to any castle u want and how many times u want with the gateway spell. It especially becomes usefull if u have a lot of castles and its poorly protected. Just teleport ur main hero to the castle defend it. And a second benefit is, ur mana is fully restored, because u rested at that castle u protected.
    Other reason is ressurection spell. U can littraly win against anything without losing a single unit. Just blind the last enemy mob, and ressurect all ur lost creatures before killing the last mob.
    5. Wisdom
    More mana = more teleports = more exploring before u need to refill.

    Appreciate the informative vid, I'm confused about your stance on ballistics though. With ballistics I'll break the gate down first round majority of the time, without it I spend the whole game bleeding out low units to archers for several rounds, and the losses add up to a lot. By things you said it sounds like you're playing shortish scenarios (pvp?) where castle battles are rare, could that explain the difference? Castle battles are basically the meat of the game when I play. Possible I'm in the minority, or you may be speaking to a specific pvp audience.

      You are correct, I play pvp and mostly on the Jebus Cross template as it is the most popular template for online play. Most games on it end around mid week 2. So my videos mostly deal with that.
      The descriptions of these skills come from the point of view of prioritization, taking into account that you probably will not get to fill and level all your skill slots. So I talk about the usefulness of skills in relation to other skills - i.e. which still you want to prioritize getting and leveling first, and these are things like earth magic, offense, etc.
      Castle battles on Jebus Cross are not necessarily rare, but usually the usefulness of ballistics is not in breaking down the walls, as you will usually have a way to deal with the walls, like having flying/ranged units of your own or using earthquake, or just killing your opponent with magic. The only real use for ballistics is the fact that it gives you the initiative when you attack a castle, so you get first move (and cast) regardless of creature speed (unless your opponent has artillery and has a citadel/castle built) - this can actually win you games. However the point that I'm trying to make here is that other skills will be much more useful in the early/mid game, for example mass slow makes fighting most creatures much easier, while ballistics will do nothing for you until you actually fight your opponent in a town - for that reason you would never prioritize getting and leveling it as there are much more useful/important things to level.

    Man i wish they had made fire damage spells more damaging. the spells being categorized by their elements, and fire being viewed as the destructive force throughout the human history for very obvious reason, it would make perfect sense if fire damage spells would deal the most damage, while earth, water and air magic would lean more towards the utility, thus leaning less damage than fire spells. balancing the spell schools this way would also make the choice between the spell schools more tactical rather than very obvious pick or skip. whether you want to deal maximum spell damage or deal less damage but have more certain type of utility on your spell power. the more i think of this the less i can understand the thought process of the devs on the damage aspect of the schools of magic.
    another things about magic are the town portal, fly and dimension door spells. at their current state they are completely broken, but only because they cost so little amount of mana regardless of the size of your army. they're very cool spells to have in the game by their basic function, but if they would scale with the army size or cost a flat large percentage of your maximum mana like flat 25 or 50 or even 75% for a single cast it would force the caster to strategize the use of the still extremely powerful spells, rather than spamming them each round near endlessly like it pretty much is at the end game, the whole purpose of the game almost being a race who gets the first access to these broken spells. coming back to the school balance things, it would be awesome if dimension door would be a fire spell to balance things out, as there's no obvious reason why manipulating dimensions would belong in any specific school of magic over another. (the same goes with implosion btw)

Also Interference will not be very useful for you in the early game, it's only usefulness is in fighting your opponent. Sounds like you may not be quite up to speed on the current state of the game.
      Necromancy has been nerfed in HotA - the % was decreased by half and the cloak of the undead king no longer does anything.
      Diplomacy used to be banned in most templates for pvp play, now it is not banned, but has been nerfed - you always have to pay for creatures to join you and only half the creatures join (while you pay the full amount), so it's really only useful in the late game, when you get a lot of gold from dragon utopias.
      Logistics has also been nerfed.
      As far as the rest goes - I more or less agree.

    Water Magic is good if you're playing Castle or Tower because of the spells Prayer and Clone. Teleportation is also a good spell if you have Naga Queens.
    Sorcery is amazing if you're playing a hero that specialises in powerful spells such as Chain Lightning, Meteor Shower, Inferno, or Prayer. It's also good if you're playing Adrienne.

    • @alex_the_magician9483
      @alex_the_magician9483  Před 3 lety +1

      Water magic can be ok, but usually you have better spells to cast than the ones you've mentioned, like implosion, summons, resurrect, mass slow, etc.
      Regarding sorcery, the main point that I try get across in this video is which skills you would prioritize over other skills, and while sorcery can be useful (although not that useful because its only a 15% damage increase, which usually won't matter much), you would never prioritize getting and leveling it over things like earth magic, offense, etc.

    • @petervlcko4858
      @petervlcko4858 Před 3 lety

      i like sorcery but only in heroes that specialize in it. that can be very different thing when you reach some level when result snowball nicely. with spells like chain lighting (i do not like it as much because is splitting initial dmg on each next unit less and less), meteor shower, inferno ( my favorite hence dmg is caused with same intensity on each unit so it can cause more dmg then chain lighting), implosion, armagedon difference is massive. otherwise difference is very weak just 15.

    • @alex_the_magician9483
      @alex_the_magician9483  Před 2 lety +1

      To be fair, since I've made this video I've realized that water magic can be more useful than I first thought. However, the situations in which it can be useful, like your example, are pretty specific, and will rarely warrant prioritizing leveling water magic over earth, or other useful skills.

  • @martinkunev9911
    @martinkunev9911 Před 3 lety +1

    4:55 It's logistics, not pathfinding.
    13:52 I wouldn't say water magic is useless. Bless, Teleport and Weakness can be quite good.
    Artillery is quite useful for secondary heroes - to defend towns and control the towers.
    19:58 I don't find intelligence that useful for mages - you probably have enough knowledge already (especially if you're wizard or witch).

    • @alex_the_magician9483
      @alex_the_magician9483  Před 3 lety +5

      4:55, was mentioned in another comment, yes, I did mix up the images, but the description is correct, which is what matters.
      Water is ok sometimes, but when compared to earth it's pretty useless, the point that I'm trying to make in this video is which skills you would prioritize, and it will rarely be water.
      Disagree on intelligence, it can definitely be a big help, I mean sure if you have 20+ knowledge then whatever, but if you can't find knowledge on the map and have to do the break with something like 5, then the difference between 50 and 75 mana can be the difference between winning and losing.

    • @antonyapostolov8252
      @antonyapostolov8252 Před 3 lety

      It's not artillery that allows you to control towers, but siege. Also Intelligence is extremly broken for some heroes. Especially Dungeon heroes who have Intelligence combined with mana vortex, it makes it impossible to lose a fight if you have resurection. There's also the Rampart hero that specializes in Intelligence. I lost once a game against a friend who had this hero simply because he had more mana than me to cast resurection. You can easily get to something like 1500 mana in late game with that skill, making it impossible to lose agaisnt for example a hero that has only 500 mana and you have expert resurection.
