Whenever you’re “copying” another singer you’re picking up on the vibrations that their voice produces and when you go to sing along your voice starts to match theirs just so the vibrations that your voice produces doesn’t clash with the singer. Placing your hand over your mouth in that way gives you that extra help to find your sound and still be in tune.

OR go to CZcams and play a song you don't know on karaoke. Since you don't know the melody, go with whatever you think and your natural voice should come out. Works for me, this is what my music teacher taught me in my singing lessons.

no freaking way, this worked more than any advice ever, wtf it literally pushed me in my natural voice i sounded average but airy and flat but when i did this, oh my nuts it made me sing so comfortable and gave my voice timbre, tone and smoothness still have to go a long, way but its worth it just to know you can flex! 😎😆 Hooray💥💖

Through years of choir I have always sung by mimicry. And I can tell you you definitely *can* hum in someone else's voice.
For example, hum "there's a fire starting in my soul" then hum "thought I'd end up with Sean, but he wasn't a match"
You can actually replicate Ariana's breathiness just by humming.

I found my natural voice by practicing singing a lot and working my way to where my voice is most comfortable and I can actually sing now lol instead of sounding like I'm trying too hard like I used to then I worked on vibrato and steadiness and now I'm working on octaves although I'm mainly a tenor I think its called lol

This is cute, but 4 things:
• find your vocal *range* , that's going to tell you whether you're a tenor, an alto, a soprano, so on & so forth
• vocal warm ups, these are going to strengthen your voice and allow you reach lower and higher octaves (vocal elasticity)
• use. Your. Diaphragm. We're surrounded by singers who "whisper sing" and not only is this damaging to the vocal chords in the long run, but it severely weakens your voice.
Finally, learn to hear whether youre flat or pitchy. Too many vocalists are one or the other. It's irksome to listen to and poor technique.
