Have you always wanted to find your true singing voice? I'll be honest, most of videos and blogs on this subject are very philosophical. They mention journaling, recording yourself, asking friends what they think that you sound like, Etc.
But actually, I want to show you how to find your true singing voice through actually singing. The truth is that most singers have a hard time finding their natural singing voice because they start off by imitating others. Adele, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, you name it. Everyone wants to sound like their favorite singer. And this makes sense, because you want to show your inspiration and it's difficult to have the confidence in your own voice when you're so inspired by your favorite singers.
However, the truth is that it's very difficult to truly imitate or mimic another singer and sound good doing it. Just for an example, when I first started off singing, I wanted to sound just like Elliott Smith. But Elliott Smith is a very breathy and light singer, and I'm a very strong and resonant singer. In other words, I had bet on the wrong horse. Now there's nothing wrong with being inspired by other artists, but it's very important that you find your own voice as you become an artist. So today I'm going to show you five steps to find your true and natural singing voice. Three of the steps will be vocal concepts that you need to learn in order to get the most out of your voice. And there are also two musical elements that I want to share with you when you're learning to find your voice.
The first vocal element in finding your natural voice is to learn to sing with chest voice. Chest voice is the name for the range of notes at the bottom part of your singing voice. When I first started off, I wasn't actually singing with enough chest voice in this was leading me to sound breathy. It's very difficult to find the correct vocal Tone If you're always singing that way.
In the second step in finding your natural voice is to learn to sing with head voice. Head Voice is the term for the top part of your singing voice. Many beginning singers don't sing in any head voice. In other words, they need to discover it in order to get the most out of their voice.
Our final vocal element for finding your true singing style is to sing with mixed voice. Mixed voice is the term given to singing with a blend of the chest voice and head voice so that your voice sounds even from the bottom to the top. If you learn how to sing in mixed voice correctly, you'll be able to sing any note in your entire range and still sound like you.
Next, I'll cover the musical elements that will help you find your voice. The first step in the musical department is that you need to choose a genre that matches your voice. Many singers will choose a genre that does not actually fit their true singing voice. For instance, I would love to be an R&B singer, but my voice does not have the flexibility and power for all the riffs and runs that happen in R&B. Instead, my voice has built more for pop and some lighter rock music.
The second step in musical elements to find your voices that you want to choose songs that fit your voice. Too many singers will choose songs that are too high, too low, or just don't showcase their true voice as well as it could. One easy way to overcome this is to sing a vocal exercise instead of the lyrics. By singing the musical exercise, you will automatically go into singing the exercise rather than trying to imitate the singer. This is very important, The journey in finding your own voice can take a bit of time and yes recording yourself can help with this. However if you don't have these other vocal and musical elements put together, it's going to be very difficult to find your sound correctly. - Hudba

.
I've been singing for almost 4 years now and what I've noticed is that you'll have moments where you like the sound of your voice better than other days. I've analyzed this phenomenon and I have made out a couple of things that consistently made my voice sound better:
Having practiced the days before
Sleeping 8 hours
Brushing my teeth consistently
Increasing my serotonin
- exercising
- working on my goals
- socializing
Not consuming caffeine in any form
Not smoking weed
(haven't made reliable observations with alcohol, tobacco or vaping because I never did that consistently)
Not having eaten recently (definitely 90 minutes+, I like to eat when I can't sing anyway. Basically not having a full stomach, even after drinking a bunch of water I'd not get my voice out properly for a while)
For men, increasing my testosterone by again exercising and not choking my wiener all the time also gave a lot of power to my voice, highly recommend.
I hope this helps someone
ima be so deadass i cant tell if ur joking 😭 but ima take it as ur not and i’ll stop smoking.
Lost me at stop choking my weeninstein and not smoking weed. At that very moment my mind ripped up the record label contract gave up my dream of singing to sold out mini bars and living the good life in a trailer with my weenster and weed and go to living on the streets of Hollywood with all the other failed talent.
😂😂 that “choking my wiener” bit is hilarious
personally i find smoking allows me to use my own voice and not try to imitate the singers...it also gives me a rasp that allows me to get into a range im not comfortable with

Another exercise that has helped me is to connect with the lyrics beforehand so when I go to sing it, it doesn't feel forced or imitated. This helps me focus on the emotion instead of the "perfect" sound, and my natural voice is able to come through.
Agreed
So here is a serious question: If you want to learn the very basics of singing, basically if your goal is to sing a song along with the radio without your passengers having the urge to jump out the window - are there any exercises that you can apply when nobody is watching or hearing you?
The only place I can overcome my hesitation to sing is when by myself in a car on the highway.
but singing along with the radio encourages you to mimic
I think you could try to sing just alone in the car while not on the Highway and not listening to music during it. Just have alone time in the car singing. Hope that helps.

Singing tips...
Listen- repeat - practice (no matter what)
Sing at your fuller voice
-Sing with chest voice(bottom part of voice note)
-sing with head voice (top part)
-sing in mixed voice(mixed note)
-find your genre
-choose songs that fit your voice
I really appreciate this also getting really good at singing in chest voice and going into my head voice and occasionally falsetto, but I don’t know how to go into a mixed voice
@GnatGames Sometimes also try to sing very loud (really I would say use a speaker and try to compete with it) but also trying to maintain the raga rhythm and pitch control. After a while start practicing without external music..... I think this helps in correcting in pitch somehow. It worked for me , not sure for others. Other methods I also followed but are too heavy like "fire in the mountains run run run " method but they are too hard.

You're so right. Once we sing in our real voice, we usually don't like how it sounds. But that's where our voice sounds most comfortable and authentic, from our heart and gut. And I'm sure many singers felt this way but it's our unique individual voices that appeal to people . And yes, when you try to imitate another singer that's outside of your natural range , it takes your breath out of you and strains your voice. Nice lesson. Thx
It's crazy how much this helped me realise my actual voice. Exactly what I was looking for, thank you!

Just found your channel while looking for tips on how to sing in a certain voice and wanted to say thank you. I will work through your channel and start recording my own singing (even though I will probably also hate it at first). Greetings, a big karaoke fan
don't choose songs that fits your voice genre ! make the song fit to your voice genre
I think both can be true
choosing a song that doesn’t fit your voice genre can fuck up your vocals but you know you need to stretch and work it so it can grow and you can learn different techniques 💯
I agree. Change the pitch to fit you. Don't limit yourself.
@@honeymilano5325 AGREE. You need to try different things, don't stay inside the box. Try to experiment, try to sing this song even it's not in your normal pitch. Figure it out how you'll sing it and you'll also learn the breathing, timing etc.
@@honeymilano5325 Then you make the song your own and sing it in your own octave. Many ppl don't realize that the don't HAVE to sing the song the way it's supposed to. You can remix mix it, change the lyrics up, etc.

You should try to test your voice out thru your nose, between your nose/throat, the back of your throat/mouth area, mid throat, and then finally down in your chest. If you can gain control like that, then it helps. Finally projection comes from your diaphragm and helps keep your voice steady and clear and can brighten it. You can work on diaphragm stuff by taking belly breaths... and then work on making your voice more projected by speaking/singing out with those breaths.

I'll never be a great singer, but at least I'm not afraid of singing out of tune anymore. The world's lucky it has people like you willing to teach.
me everytime the singer on the song hit one note higher than my capability : "aggressively whispering"
yes!
Please teach me
SO TRUE.
Yes!!! How do you fix that?
Ikr! I’m a naturally low singer but I can still hit a higher note and it annoys me when they’re singing a note above my capability so I get annoyed and just lower the tone I use and it does work but sounds weird.
I guess this is like the music version of trying to find your art style
perfect analogy
Watching from Philippines, where singers are very common and yes im one of those people who tends to imitate their singer idols just to be heard great, but after watching this video I realized I kinda have my own unique voice. 😊
Thanks a lot, learned a lot from this❤❤❤
Thank you very much for your advice, your advice is helping me get back to where I want to be!
Just wanted to say I've been singing all my life without any lesson's and kind of knew these things without really being conscious or aware of it.
However for the last five years or so I haven't sung a note and now just realised I want to start singing again only to find I can't not sing like I did before. It seems I have lost control of some of my top end, and apart from that I do realise that my age could also be a factor. I find it so frustrating!
With your advice I have now come to the conclusion I will have to find a new natural voice and it's good to have people like yourself to help thanks!
Me: Wow you’re a great teacher
Voice recording: for people with potential
thanks
I have a fairly deep voice for a woman, and because of it I've never thought it would be possible for me to be good at singing, so I never tried to practice. I feel more inspired to put effort into trying, now. Thank you ❤️
Agreed on that aspect, A.
Toni Braxton girl
A voice like yours can be so nice...please try.
Nina Simone.
Pray on it.
Same as you here. Then, I actually found out, I prefer deeper female singing voices
My voice is also that deep type, not that sweet one, umm I can do the sweet one too lil bit but I'm more comfortable with the deep voice of mine but when it comes to singing I m unable to do justice to my voice😔 what should I do
This was very helpful. Thank you for the advice! Now to practice.
I think the just talking the words to the song (which is harder than it sounds, btw) really helped me stay o'natural. Thanks for the video!
Quarantine has got me learning how to sing. How to skateboard. How to draw better.
Can't you tell I'm bored?
great new skills
Wait what?! Those are the same 3 things I. Learning?!
I've been skating for 6 years, but covid got me out with my kids skating a lot more, and playing guitar :) . I also love to draw! I think us artistic folk have similar interests :)
@@jodyhaines8509 that's awesome
@@yourbffnat3602 haha ey wtf? I like to draw, play piano, learning to sing (I suck) and skate?
The only time I can sing is when Im by myself cuz I know how BAD I sound but if Im next to people or they can hear me my anxiety level📈📈
here's my lesson on dealing with singing insecurity:

THIS GUY SPEAKS MORE THAN 100% SO TRUE RIGHT ON THE DOT.❤
Great info! Never knew there was a “chest” voice but makes sense. I’m 54, (dislike my voice) and new to singing and piano (I’m
a late bloomer). So anything I can learn to get better really helps. Thanks again.
Him: Choose songs that fit your voice
Me: Okay I'll try to sing nursery rhymes
why not!
🤣🤣🤣🤣
“You’re a 25 year old man, why you singing like a 13 year old girl?”
Hahaha good stuff
right!
Thc u so much, I've been told I can "sing" by both friends and family and totally at random but I've always felt like I hadn't found my singing voice, this was an awesome start so thx.
This is so helpful, thank you very much for making this video. 😄😊
Keep practicing people! LITERALLY ANYONE CAN LEARN HOW TO SING
so true, unless medical condition exists
@@ramseyvoicestudio oh gods that’s dark
@@ramseyvoicestudio like sinusitis??
Is that really possible?!? I guess not everyone's able to be a singer ... :(
@@AmandeepKaur-br8ev my father have sinusitis but he can sing he's part of a choir before
I just wanna share it
Peace
"there's so much more to be gained from actually embracing the sound of your voice rather than trying to mimic the sound of another singer"
right!
Matt, you’re awesome. Just keep up the great work. Im a singer. You’re most helpful. ❤❤❤❤
This is what i have been searching for!!.Thank you😀
