Adam I've been searching for videos like yours for ages. I feel like I'm finally learning the techniques of singing. You deserve way more appreciation. Thank you so much.
I have been a guitarist for years and have always been told to "save my voice for back ups". A few years ago I got married to a lady that can sing amazingly well and started doing karaoke. To me singing is like playing any other instument.instrument.. practice and a lot of it
@@Akillesursinne Skill can beat talent, but not always nor often. The explanation for what happened to you is puberty messing you up (I'm in the same boat, my voice has like 40% the range it used to). There's a reason in old times they castrated talented opera singing boys. (So their voices don't change upon growing up, cuz no balls = no testosterone = no male puberty = no voice change) To explain what I mean by talent, let's consider skill something quantifiable. Let's say regular people start with around 0 to 5 in a skill. A talented person in the other hand starts with around 10 to 50 in that skill. So sure, with enough training an untalented one can catch up to a talented one, but the talented ones also train, so they would be even more skillful with the same amount of time spent training (unless the untalented one in question is a fast learner, is fast learning a talent? too many variables) Sorry for all the yapping. Got too inspired.
I'm over 60, and have been singing since before I could walk, but without much of a clue as to how to develop my natural voice. This beginner lesson is the basic "toolkit" that will help me do what I have never really done before. I can hear and feel it by the natural resonance in your voice. Thank you for outstanding content.
Three things i learned in this video: 1. I sound like a villager from Minecraft 2. Adams singing voice sounds like a mix of Neil Patrick Harris and Michael Buble 3. I'm probably a Canadian now because i've exactly followed Adams examples at the end of the video
Dude, this video has seriously improved my vocal usage! I have literally been hoping to find a tutorial like this for years and years! I can finally progress my singing! Thank you for such a brilliant explanation about using your natural voice, no more coughing and straining my vocal chords from me!
Thanks Adam, I finally know how to relax my vocals and sing with my true voice! No strain, pushing nor tightening my vocal cords. I now know what it's like to sing high or low while feeling relax, clear and struggle free. This video helped me to improve instantly.
Stumbled on this video today and these practices with humming really helped to relax my voice, I've been doing this for few hours now and it's less and less forced but I'm long way. Thank you though 😁
As a kid I remember (in around sixth grade in 1994 probably) when a singing instructor came to our music class, and tested me.He heard my voice and quickly passed over me. Turns out a few women have complemented me on my voice, which is English-Irish and quite deep. I'm happy to have the voice I have.
Hi Adam. I I have been watching you and other coaches on I have decided you are my favorite. You explain things carefully and without Prejudice, it is so honest that you care about music you teach which is amazing isn’t it? Because your success is measured more or less by the people you teach. I know when they succeed you are ,Adam.so proud of them which is something I think some kids these days are missing that In their lives. Thank you
Excellent advice! I only wish I could have stumbled upon this years ago! Knowing how it should FEEL to sing properly is such a crucial first step. I didn't understand it until much later in my journey and I found myself having to unlearn so many bad habits. Having your body be relaxed around your throat/neck/chords is the only way to truly get your resonances going. One other thing to realize when your just starting to exercise your singing muscles, don't expect to lift the biggest weight in the gym on your first week. Slowly work your way up to extending your range once you have the basics down. Do that and you won't waste years like I did. Good luck, all!
Just watched this video and instantly received a call from a major record company. Thank you for the help and support. I couldn’t have done this without you.
Dude, I've been singing for years (not always successfully) I KNEW I could do it but lacked proper direction and the singing teachers I encountered just didn't really speak to me if you know what I mean. With that one tip you've just given my voice has improved dramatically. I have a pretty wide range (b2 to c5 in full voice) and when I write songs for myself it's always a pain to know what key to put them in as I can sing all over the place, this has just oddly enough unlocked quite a few doors for me. Cheers dude.
I just sang a song i was never able to sing attractively. Poetic Tragedy - The Used and it brought me to tears. Thank you from a brother in a place where singing is giving me a hope....for my life.
Wow. I can’t believe how such a simple exercise could be an absolute game changer. I’ve done this one and have regained what I thought was lost range. Thank you so much 🙏🏾
Dude keep on keeping on man. It’s incredible that you try to help people improve from the years of effort you had to put in. I wish the world was more willing to share hard earned knowledge. I subscribed but I can’t pay any money to your cause right now. I’ll like all your videos and do what I can to help you. Thank you
it’s crazy how when i was younger i could sing “Queen of the Night” perfectly, but as soon as puberty hit me I started sounding like a Batman who smokes 2 packs a day
when I do the short, low hum I feel some strain. but when i go to the mid-high range feels much better. I think I found what I was looking for! thank you..
This actually really helps me with my clean vocals a lot, i'm primarily a harsh vocalist but i've been dabbling with some cleaner vocals lately, and have been wanting to get better at it
This actually made me find my singing voice almost instantly and it blew me away. I use to only be able to sing fairly quietly and this has helped me find my voice and now it booms. Amazing
I go outside to an isolated place and sing as loud as I like to feel what I can and can’t sing. Singing in a restricted area causes me too many problems.
Why hasn't any other place I've looked for advice on singing mentioned this before? I have every other technique that I've practiced for years, but this is what has been holding me back. Thank you.
This was incredibly helpful and insightful. I had been trying to sing along to Attention by Charlie Puth. And even though it's right within my range, I was straining those notes all the time. So I decided to try Otherside by RHCP instead (I used the same song in this exercise) and I was still straining a lot. With this video, I could really find the sweet spot for my own voice and understand that I was trying too hard to sound like Anthony Kiedis and Charlie Puth themselves. But even though my register isn't low, my tone has an intense low-end. Now I feel like giving those 2 songs another spin!
Great tips, brother! Remember that the vocals are just one more instrument in the mix. So, pitch and timing are important. And the secret is making the audience feel emotion in your voice.
I used to be an amazing singer when I was younger, but after puberty, improper singing practices and other things, I've lost my singing voice. I used to love singing, and music is extremely important to me, so I'm glad I finally found a you, and can try to retrain my voice if it's even possible at this point.
Hey Adam. I've been learning singing a little bit on my own for a couple of years, playing guitar as well. I started doing scales, figured out my range, experimenting with some songs. I felt some pain in the vocal cord several times and never really found that my singing sounded any good. Now this video popped on my youtube feed today. I was very sceptic about your title. Then I watched it while having my breakfast. I didn't think much of it but started doing your little "relax/no strain feeling" exercise. I then carried on doing scales with that technique, focusing on the vocal cords feeling strain free. I then tried an easy Beatles song, love me do (changing the pitch to match mine). Man, first time I felt I sounded good ! All that to say, this video did actually REALLY made me sing better INSTANTLY. Something clicked ! Thank you very much, all the best to you !
Thank You, haven't been able to find my voice pitch in years watching youtube vids or taking choir. Thanks really appreciate, going to practice hard!!!
אחי! This is amazing! I’ve been dealing with strain forever and 5 minutes into this video I’m hitting my highest notes with almost no pressure at all. And now I have the Canadian national anthem stuck in my head 😂

This was extremely helpful with with the humming technique And pitch my singing sounds better I think it's also because I have a deep voice that a low tone compliments it

I've been singing as a hobby for about 10 years now since I was 8 and when I started I could not sing at all. I feel like despite singing for such a long time my voice still sounds like someone who's only singing for like a year or two. I don't know maybe it's because I haven't had any professional training or lessons but I feel like my progress is very slow. I want to pursue a career in music singing but I feel my voice is too basic to even call myself a singer. Although I'm very passionate about singing and I sing everyday, I feel like my effort isn't reflected and it is quite frustrating.
don’t ever doubt yourself, you might think your voice is basic but to others-it could sound magical. don’t ever let procrastination or doubts hold you back from pursuing your dreams. when you want something in this life, youve got to hold onto it.
Look at this dude he used to sound horrible and now he’s good! Hardwork pays off push yourself, especially if you have no natural talent means you gotta outwork the talented people
Jesus man don't sell yourself short! at the very least try singing in your local choir like a community college or church. You would get a ton of help from peers and teachers.
Everyone here is giving good advice but also remember singing voice is very important but finding what type of sound your voice fits on best is really key
This video made me realize that I've not only never been able to sing due to vocal strain, but that I just in general have never really spoken or breathed without some form of pain in my body. It might just be due to my poor constitution, but breathing in an of itself is a straining thing for me, so learning that I needed to have a relaxed throat and voice when I sing was definitely a bit of a news flash. Although I don't trust that I can fully learn how to sing with my poor adaptation rate, your tutorial was at least able to inform me of information that's been bothering me for a long portion of my life, so thanks for that! It was decently informative and encouraging.
Thanks Adam, I wanna learn to sing and found this vid - I can't put my dear neighbours through this so thought of practising in the car. One day I'd like to sing karaoki but don't have the confidence yet. Does confidence grow as I practise and polish up my singing voice?
You got to dont care about others opinion and do what your heart ask you to, the confidence will not grow as you get better, not in a deep way, just superficially
I love to sing, always been shy. After a bad break up, I used to get super drunk at the local karaoke bar, until finally I could get up to sing. The more I got on stage to sing, the less alcohol I needed. Now I can sing in front of people no problem. I'm not a great singer by any means, but confidence comes with practice. (Though I don't suggest killing your liver like I did to get there!)
Start singing around people you're comfortable with e.g friends, family.. even just in the car along to the radio and build from there, it's always scary at first but you've gotta push through
I gotta be honest - there are so many trash click bait title videos out there. But this is NOT one of them. This quite literally made my voice instantly better. Good shit fam.
As a Canadian looking to learn how to sing - this went well I thought haha Edit* wow after a day of practicing this I have, for the first time in my 31 years, actually found "my" singing voice. Now I actually *know* where to work and on what, without the whole thing being a "throw-it-at-the-wall-a-thon". a full day later and I really feel like this helped!

When you ask a question and they heart the comment
You got to dont care about others opinion and do what your heart ask you to, the confidence will not grow as you get better, not in a deep way, just superficially
you have to sing with your heart, don't be shy. If you're shy it doesn't matter if your voice is good, no one's gonna hear it anyway!
Start singing around people you're comfortable with e.g friends, family.. even just in the car along to the radio and build from there, it's always scary at first but you've gotta push through
This is a great tip! You were spot on with the strain. Thought that was genuinely normal
So simple and yet so impactful. Thank you so much I've started to do it and right away I noticed the change
I gotta be honest - there are so many trash click bait title videos out there. But this is NOT one of them. This quite literally made my voice instantly better. Good shit fam.
Strain free, great place to start. You’re a fine, patient teacher.
As a Canadian looking to learn how to sing - this went well I thought haha
Edit* wow after a day of practicing this I have, for the first time in my 31 years, actually found "my" singing voice. Now I actually *know* where to work and on what, without the whole thing being a "throw-it-at-the-wall-a-thon". a full day later and I really feel like this helped!
THIS ACTUALLY WORKED FOR ME WTH THANK YOU SOO MUCH
