  • WHY COOLANT COMES OUT OF RADIATOR CAP OR OVERFLOW TANK RESERVOIR ON A CAR
    If you have a car that has coolant antifreeze coming out of the overflow bottle or coolant coming from the radiator cap in this video we will explain what often can cause coolant to come out of the radiator cap or coolant to come out of the overflow reservoir tank. Often coolant coming out of the radiator cap or overflow tank is a sign of engine overheating or blown head gasket but in other cases it could be bad radiator cap or bad coolant overflow reservoir cap or even maybe the cooling system not being bleed correctly. Hopefully the video will be helpful to any of you that need to fix coolant coming out of the overflow reservoir tank or the radiator cap.

    How are you doing? I looked for you on CZcams just wanted to say thank you so much. My Jeep cherokee 2001kj 3.7litres was having cooling system failure and I flashed the cooling system a number of times but the problem continued. Tuesday nigh after watching your video then my attention moved to the radiator cup which I knew was in bad shape but I didn't know the importance of it being in good shape. Today I bought a new radiator cup and went for a test drive and the results were amazing, no boiling of coolant, engine no longer getting hotter than the normal temperature and no coolant coming out of the reservoir whenever I just stop or pack. Thanks to you my baby is back on the road. Continue with the same spirit. The radiator cup is almost $3 dollars here in Zambia just $3 dollars would have killed my baby and I would've spent more on the gasket

    I had a cracked head, but didn't notice it, when I had the upper intake gasket go out on my 2002 Grand AM GT 3.4l V6. So I took everything apart and check that all clearances we still within standards. I missed a small crack between the valves. So when driving the car, everything seemed fine until I would step on the gas hard. Then I would noticed bubbling in the cooling system. It would leak off a little throught the overflow tube. But granny driving was fine around town. When I decided to pull each spark plug, one was stuck. It stripped the thread when took it out. So when I pulled that head, I was able to see it, now that it was bad. So I changed the head, put it all together, then it was noisy, knocking sound, until it warms up. Wasn't exactly sure what was causing the knock now. Thought something happened to cause rod bearings to wear out, so when I was replacing those, I noticed when that cylinder was at top dead center, it would clunk to the side. It seems the time driving it and it kept trying to over heat only when stepping on it at full throttle, must have caused the one to wear out more, when it would keep getting heated up. So I now have piston slap on that cylinder. The original upper intake gasket on that GM 3.4l V6 is a terrible design. The replacement one has metal spacers, to prevent the gasket from being crushed too much, during installation. The one that failed was just plastic with the silicone seal bead. I just wish I noticed the crack in the head when I had it all apart. Lesson learned.

    Hi and great videos. Question is… just bought a 2.5 Sentra that blows air and coolant through the filler cap and acts like a blown head gasket. There is no coolant in the oil, no residue on oil cap and the car does not smoke. It does still get hot. I bypassed the heater core since I’m in Florida. Both thermostats were changed also. The radiator seems new but looking forwards to seeing if something is clogged. Any suggestions my only bet is radiator clogged or water pump bad. Everything looks new but coolant did seem brownish. Never had these symptoms before and only thing I can think of would be worst case scenario the head gasket regardless it was changed. Only 100k on the engine. Any idea would be appreciated

    The coolant on my 1964 ford econoline overflows via the tube attached to the radiator cap after or once I turn the engine off. While running it doesn't leak and the engine does not overheat.
    It is not leaking from radiator, hoses, or any other place. I don't believe it could be head gasket because the engine has been rebuilt. I did recently change out the radiator cap, need to know if that's what is causing to overflow? Appreciate any response and/or information you provide.

    I've got the weirdest car, not long after buying it I noticed the Coolant expansion chamber was way below minimum so topped it up assuming the previous owner just hadnt done it in a while, checked it again two weeks ater and same thing so topped it up again, after that I checked almost every day. Never had any leaks, no warning lights, no overheating or anything, no signs other than the visual check with missing coolant. Then not long after the 2nd top up it started to show some leaks/drips under the car, nothing major just very light loss. Kept topping up and keeping eye on it until eventually taking it to garage who diagnosed a crack in thermostat housing, they said it was common on the age and model of vehicle I have (2012 citroen DS3) they also said some work had been down around this area as parts were new and mustve had work done recently. Again a month or so later from fixing small leaks like before but not very much, very very light patch.on driveway every so often, usually after a longish drive leaving car overnight id notice a small patch, nothing like before and nowhere near the coolant loss as before. Because of these issues I've been obsessively checking the coolant level and today noticed it had risen to over the max line? Despite as I say the odd drip i expected it to go down slightly, I released the cap slowly expecting a slight rise as sometimes happens when releasing the pressure out the chamber but the level just kept rising to the point where its running out the top onto the floor. I've topped it up twice with approx 500ml of coolant since having it fixed around 6 weeks ago but haven't needed to the past couple weeks as its been consistently on the max.
    It's making me think are the levels even consistent when I'm checking it, is it not regulating properly and perhaps when I've thought it needed coolant maybe it didn't? I've not seen it like that ever rising up and out the top. Needless to say I've soaked the excess out with a cloth for now. What could this be?

      @midwestfatass Před 7 měsíci +1

      Potentially an air pocket traped in the system could cause irregular coolant levels, but to be safe, do a hydrocarbon test to see if you're getting exhaust gasses in your cooling system. The tester is relatively inexpensive. If you are, it could be a sign of a blown head gasket.

    • @campcop9214
      @campcop9214 Před 7 měsíci

      @midwestfatass coolant has been drained and replaced several times recently could there still be an air pocket there, new water pump was recommended and replaced along with a new thermostat housing where they said it original leaked via a crack, but this problem is still there slightly, I'm sure these mechanics just change things for the sake of it

    • @midwestfatass
      @midwestfatass Před 7 měsíci +1

      @campcop9214 if the shop isn't versed on bleeding procedures, the problem could remain. I would, however, do a head gasket leak test as soon as possible. The kit to test it is around 30 bucks, and it's very diy. Super simple. Then at least you can be confident in the health of your engine. Look up testing head gasket on youtube.

      @@midwestfatass I've heard of this, I'll try it, I've literally seen nobody say pressure build up could be a failing water pump, 2 recovery breakdowns "specialists" said it looked like a water pump issue so idk feeling quite ripped off by not just who I got the car from but the 4 different people who looked at this car to discover the issue. Later during the day im going to check if there wasent any coolant dripping while i drove it yesterday. What i did notist when i got home my truck engine was very hot. Good luck in your vehicle. I'm trying to find why is caussing this issue on my own because here where i live not all mecanics are honest. They like to ripp off clients specially women. They gave a estimate of $350 i advice to let me know first what was the issue i took a video of the problem where it was leaking. I told them to change the spar plugs and transmission oil and motor and the issue of the dripping coolant. Took my truck in at 2pm
      They said it was ready next day at 11am. He had a sheet saying i have to pay over $500 i told him you never call me to tell me the issue. And you gave me an estimate of $350 so thats what i only paid. Later when i drove my truck i notist it was getting hot when i turn my cooler system off. Went to see if it had a leak and yes it did. But this time it wasent coolant was just clear water. They tried to make me think i had a problem with my coolant system. Which i didn't believe. I checked my antifreeze bottle which i had added orange antifreeze and was pure water also my radiator had pure clear water in it?? I told this person where they fix it he told me if i tasted it and that i should of taste it i told you come and taste it for me 😂 later next day i call another mecanic and told him why my coolant was overflowing when i took the cap out and turn my truck on he said it was the head gaskets and that it will cost $600 i said why so much he said because we need to take half of your motor out. I said no thank you. Than i said im going to coment here in youtube to experts so they said it was completely normal for it to happen.
