One thing I really liked about Peach in the movie (aside from how independent she was) is that Mario and her weren’t instantly in love. Instead, they start out as teammates, then become friends, and they’re just kind of at the “good friends” stage when the movie ended. Sure, Mario invited her to Brooklyn and offered to buy her a turtle, but that seemed more friendly than flirty.

Peach knows that Bowser can do it if he really wants to so she agrees. But then again, it’s a simple story in mushroom kingdom. People are propably just overthinking it. @@Snofey1 not really mario bros 1 happened. Mario bros 2 is a dream and Mario Bros 3 is merely a play a theatrical recreation of the first game. Bowser invades Dinosaur land in World and 64 has him invade her castle. The others are about Bowser invading far away lands.
The all become friends by Mario Bros 3 while Bowser continues after Peach going forward. Nintendo was originally making a Popeye game before Mario and thus the Popeye and Bluto fighting over Olive Oil but getting along at other times is a way at looking at things.

Since, as he pointed out "I have as much right to be here as anyone!", after all he lives there too...
Of course Starlow, being Starlow, told him to fuck off, which set him off and he started a fight.
Then, as ChairGuy mentioned, Bowser was weakened (and thrown out of the castle)
with a combination of Starlows Star Sprite power and Peachs Wish power.

She may not be a match for Bowser's Dark magics though, which are usually more destructive (and take the form of a circle, a triangle, and a square.)
she also has a council and has collected some magic artifacts from across the Mushroom worlds that probably make her much more powerful, although she somehow resists the temptation to use them unless necessary.

The old Super Mario Bros game says a couple of interesting things about The princess Toadstool. First, the game manual explains that Toadstool is the only one who can stop King Koopa and that's why King Koopa has captured the princess and you need to rescue her. Second, when you arrive at Toadstool's castle, you meet a Toad who tell you that their princess is in another castle (or has gone to another castle, depending on the language the game is localized for). Together, these would indicate that the princess has been caught while going to King Koopa's castle against King Koopa. And maybe this was the reason why the princess character was already tough and spicy in the old Japanese Manga comics.

Ok let's not fool ourselves, in Mario Bros. 1, 3, World, 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1 & 2, 3D Land, Odyssey, a handful of RPGs and ALL the NSMB games.... Peach has been the Damsel in Distress.
When Bowser Jr called her his MOM, she stood there dumbfounded instead of denying it. All she could do was say "So you're Bowser's son?" and scream Mario's name. There's far less games where she's independent than when she's the Damsel. Replay those games.

    • @iheartbacon76
      @iheartbacon76 Před rokem +7

I agree with you, and Ithink the reason why people assume Peach is just a damsel in distress is because they've only played the sports games, and very few of the main games, while never touching spinoffs
in Super Mario RPG and super mario 2, she fights alongside mario, in Mario Bros 3, she send mario items to help him on his quest to save her, in Super Princess Peach, she *rescues* Mario and Luigi and in The Super Mario Bros 1 Manual, she was needed to reverse the spell that bowser put on the toads that turned them into blocks, which is why Mario saved her.
I think people need to realise that Peach is much more competent than NSMBU and odyssey make her look

I like what they have done with the character, but she was definitely a helpless damsel in distress for most of her existence. Studios forget that people, for the most part , will accept changes in a character as politics and society change eagerly if the character is still written well , and I thought they pulled that off in the film. They also did not need to change much , because she was eased into the role of kicking butt over many games, changing from completely helpless to a healer and evolving into Smash Bros territory.

Call me old fashioned but I like them together. You don’t have to be single to be empowering. There’s nothing stopping peach as a character from being strong and in love. It was really refreshing to see Peach champion the idea of teamwork for younger viewers, especially since Disney botched it up by having Rey solo _all_ her opponents and basically carry the entire quest by herself without ever needing or asking for help in the _Star Wars_ franchise.

Peach's last name is Toadstool. To become a queen, one must be coronated, so even if she's the sole monarch, she could still be just a princess. Peach's natural hair color is blonde, as evident by her baby form, but she may have tried out some different colors over the years before going back to her roots. Both Mario and Peach's profiles states that Mario/Peach is the other's boyfriend/girlfriend, and Mario nearly proposed to her in Odyssey. It was actually Cranky who originally kidnapped Pauline, not DK himself. Peach may be a pacifist, but she's shown she can fight when she needs to, and has on several occasions (heck, she did that in her second game appearance). If I were Peach, I would have said no too if my proposal turned into a "pick me, pick me" contest, even if I did want to get married to Mario. The Mario movie just showed Peach's willing to act side, so that was in-character of her.

I personally find the movie as a ✨backstory✨ to how Mario and peach met, I personally think that in the second movie Mario will decide to stay at the mushroom kingdom for most of his life, ending up for Mario and peach to get married, cause if you think about it, when you meet somebody who will be your future lover/husband/wife you have to develop love for each other, meaning that this movie takes place when they first met, which also means that in the games Mario and peach having a romantic relationship is later on in the timeline. Also with the “peach has parents” thing, I personally think they just went with “Princess Peach” Cause it rolls of the tongue well. I don’t think she has parents, and if she did the toads wouldn’t have called her queen because they don’t know if she has parents or not. That’s my opinion though. One extra note, I love peaches personality in this movie, cause rather than being kidnapped she’s independent and brave, it really adds to the story.

Peach has always been a strong female character, but I felt the movie made her a bit to much of a girlboss cliche. I personally like it better when there is more of a balance between being a damsel, and being a gal who needs no man. Mario was kind of sidelined in his own movie, and basically Peach was the hero. Mario was just, kinda there.

  • @thesurvivorssanctuary6561

I kinda wish Bowser and Peach were ex-lovers...
I know, but here Mme out!
I like Bowser being a creepy stalker, but I think Peaches character would be enhanced by having had a: "bad boy" phase. Then she grows out of it by realizing what a creep Bowser is, and takes: Self-Defense, Parkour, and Crossfit, courses, as a way to learn to be independent and protect herself.
It's also the perfect place to have Peach in her character development, so she is open to a relationship with a "hero" like Mario. She would have already done the leg work of becoming independent and finding herself after Bowser, and so she's in a place emotionally where she is ready for another relationship if ahe finds one that is worthy of her. It would've also made more sense as to why Bowser kidnaps Luigi, and why Peach helps Mario personally.
Bowser just kidnaps people for Peach to rescue, so he can force her come to his house again; and it creates the perfect opportunity for Peach to hire Mario as a: "full time hero", because she has a kingdom to rule. Peach doesn't have time to deal with an obsessive clingy ex-boyfriend. It also makes Bowser creepier, and more relatable. This also gives an excuse as to why he continually tries so hard even after failing over and over again!
Best part *EVER* Bowser's failures gives him a point of commiseration with Luigi, and they could be frenemies.
So, basically, I don't think the movie went far enough in the relationship between Peach and Bowser. I personally hate the flawless badass female protag who don't need no man, and who is basically sexless and aromantic. I think that character trope would be enhanced by being a survivor of a bad relationship; as that is who the character most represents anyway.

    SPOILER WARNING!
Peach wasn’t from the Mushroom kingdom, in the movie it was stated that she came from entirely another universe.
It was implied it was the same world as Mario and Luigi’s world.
Peach was just a toddler who gotten lost and was taken in by the toads. Later on when she grew older, they appointed her as a princess.
Which in others words, her mom and dad weren’t the King and Queen during the movie, she could have been abandoned, lost her parents, or she could have gotten lost wandering.
We never knew her parents or their role in the movie. Maybe it’s different in the other stories, but I’m talking about the movie.

I think this works so well because it actually does some basic worldbuilding to explain Princess Peach's position and competence. She's in a video game multiverse, and she's a human "player character" rather than a native inhabitant. (You can argue that a setting with concepts like respawning and cartoon immunity to/recovery from injury selects less for survival traits like intelligence.) She's in charge of a kingdom because she's both willing to serve and honestly far more competent to be in charge than almost all of her subjects. She responded to a threat by making a functional plan which even retroactively was probably the best option in the longer run, adjusted when appropriate, and showed the humility to think of herself as a fairly ordinary person in an extraordinary situation and thus realize immediately that other "ordinary people" have value as well. You don't need to be passive to need help.

That means she does this on purpose).
