[The History Channel] - Lupercalia was an ancient pagan festival held each year in Rome on February 15. Although Valentine’s Day shares its name with a martyred Christian saint, some historians believe the holiday is actually an offshoot of Lupercalia. Unlike Valentine’s Day, however, Lupercalia was a bloody, violent and sexually charged celebration awash with animal sacrifice, random matchmaking and coupling in the hopes of warding off evil spirits and infertility.

Just keep God out of it 🙏 As children of God you are called to not follow the masses and traditions of Gentiles. Imagine all the energy that pagan "gods" harvest on days like this, including Christmas and Easter because of Christians who don't want to leave their pagan ways. Just choose any other day to celebrate your love, you do not need to do it when the rest of the world does it. With love, no pun intended 🤣

Let's try to apply this argument to other situations and see how much sense it makes: "it's between a person and God if they want to murder a baby". "it's between a person and God if they want to break into someone's house and steal their possessions". "It's between a person and God if they want to engage in witchcraft". "It's between a person and God if they want to engage in homosexuality".

Valentine's Day originated in the 3rd century on the Korean peninsula, which was not yet unified and was part of the three Korean kingdoms that were constantly at odds with each other. In anticipation of their beloved's return, Korean women would make and give desserts to their beloved husbands or lovers in order to show their affection for their loved ones and to carry the desserts with them so that they could eat them while on the march, which gradually became the culture of the Korean Peninsula. It was only after the establishment of the Goryeo Dynasty that the 14th day of the month was designated as Valentine's Day by a decree issued by King Jian, the King of the Goryeo Dynasty, in order to honor the feelings of Korean women for their soldiers and to provide logistical support for the reunification of the peninsula. Since then, Koreans have become a favorite nation, and there are currently 16 Valentine's Days in Korea. During the Korean War, the United Nations Army was influenced by the culture of celebrating Valentine's Day in Korea, so the mass production of chocolate became a classic dessert that the United Nations Army gave to each other on Valentine's Day, and the Western missionaries were also deeply moved by this culture, so they brought this custom back to the West, which accelerated the popularity of Valentine's Day in Korea.

  • @Saints_ravenfortheRainbow

Every holiday has pagan origin before Christianity because paganism pre dates it
It's valentines day because of a Christian who was tried to be converted to Roman paganism but would not and when he tried to convert the guy to Christianity he was martyred.
    I love religious studies.
I have been ordained coming from being ex pagan white witch after encountering some messed up stuff I didn't even know was possible.
I knew automatic writing was a thing...
I think if we toss all holidays then fine. I'm pro not promoting Santa and even Halloween which was my favorite.
If there's gotta be so much issue with non verbal kids not being able to say a spell, trick or treat, and since kids need to be listened to when they see things adults can't and in my case I was not told to say Jesus's name when I was little even being raised Christian from very little, then we should start either tossing all holidays, take the spells and rules out of participating in any holiday cause they all have pagan origins and teaching all of the origins to understand how they've evolved so that each family can take out pagan aspects that stayed if they want to still celebrate in the Christian evolutions of the holidays.

And the bible also lays out what celebrations Father God counts as holy days to him. That is all that should matter to a Christian, is what God thinks and wants from us. He tells us Not to conform to the "Ways of the world" If you van find anywhere in the bible God telling us to do it, then it is of the world, Not of God. If it is Not of God, then it is the "Ways of the world".

With respect to the Lupercalia-Valentine’s connection, most scholars would argue that there is absolutely no connection between two whatsoever.
The earliest attested historical record of the Lupercalia comes from the 3rd century BCE, while the last record was from the end of the 5th century CE - around the same time Pope Gelasius I made February 14 into a day that would honor the Christian martyr, Saint Valentine.
Further, Lupercalia was a very local thing; it was held almost exclusively in Rome. There are only scant references to it being held anywhere else. It was not a Roman Empire-wide celebration; thus, could not have possibly been the seeding of some sort of “proto-Valentine’s Day” across Europe.
At no point however does Gelasius speak of compromise, or of adapting any pagan customs. Even though they weren’t far apart chronologically, the supposed symbolic overlap between the two took centuries more to develop, as Valentine’s Day hadn’t yet acquired the romantic meaning it has today. In the early church, this would have been a solemn celebration; not the holiday it is today. Indeed, it is quite possible that Gelasius was partly responsible for Lupercalia’s decline.
There just isn’t any historical evidence to suggest that one was replaced by another.
Valentine’s Day and romance became associated with each other only in the late 14th century with a few well-known poems of Geoffrey Chaucer (of Canterbury Tales fame). That’s a pretty huge gap between the late 1300’s and the end of Lupercalia in the 400’s. A thousand year gap where nothing resembling Lupercalia or romance and Valentine’s Day is historically attested or recorded.
It would seem, under closer examination, that a supposed connection between Valentine’s Day and the Roman Lupercalia lies solely within the realm of some very wishful thinking.
The idea that Christian holidays are ‘pagan’ in origin actually comes from die-hard Protestant fundamentalists in the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries.

There is Jesus and there is Satan, there is my birthday and I might share it with some demonic event or person born the same day, everything is dual and everything is divided in good and evil. Information is great so you know your enemy and walk away from it/them, just lean on your Holy Spirit and it will always guide you to Him, to the light! I didn’t even watch this video but the title reminded me what I’ve learned this year. I’ve never celebrate Valentine’s Day because the only knowledge I knew is “it’s a day of married or couples”, that’s just one belief, one opinion of somebody. I went deep in and researched little bit more to learn different stories and histories of the origin of that day. Not a surprise, the evil is celebrating adultry/abuse/etc on this day im not even going to go about pagan holidays, it’s truly sick. But then I found a beautiful Christian story which sparked up the fire in my soul! I’m so happy I’ve learned this meaning! About how St. Valentine was a secret Christian of his wealthy family who would kill Christian’s and who were against marriage because “it makes a man weak if he has a wife and kids”. So St. Valentine secretly married Christian couples and when the couple and him were caught and got into the jail, St Valentine didn’t use his family and wealth to free himself, instead he sacrificed his life and told his family to free the Christian couple and to kill him. That’s what they did and before they killed Valentine, he was sending mail in a form of a heart ❤ (meaning Christian love) through a blind girl. When Valentine died and when the blind girl was carrying his last message, the girl got her vision back and turned into a gorgeous healthy woman! AMEN!!!❤❤❤

Romans 14:5 says "One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind." If you aren't worshipping false gods/idols or celebrating sin, then celebrate whatever you want according to your own conscience.

Rom. 14:5 does not authorize a Christian to do whatever they want according to their own conscience, and it's rater ignorant(not to mention dishonest) to read it as saying such when 1 Jhn 3:4 defines sin as violating God's commandments, not personal feelings or beliefs. God routinely punishing the Israelites for worshiping false gods under a pretext of honoring Him means will worship is not an issue that God takes lightly.

Instead, I now fully trust, believing in my heart, that your finished work on the cross, your perfect blood sacrifice, when you bled, suffered and died, in my place, paid for my sins in full, past, present and future. And I believe that you rose from the dead and that you are God Almighty, God the Son, alive for evermore !!! And so I fully trust that you will forgive me now by cleansing me from all sin in your precious blood, which purifies my soul. Thank you Lord Jesus for loving me so much, for forgiving me, saving me from hell and giving me everlasting life and sealing me with the Holy Spirit dwelling within me forever !!! Ephes.1:13, 4:30, Heb.10:10-14,19,38,39

NONE of the western holidays should be celebrated by true believers. None of them show up in scripture, not even Easter (fertility goddess worship) or Christmas (Santa comes from satan ) Yahusha was born in September (hence the feast they had for him mid summer). Every feast day he wants Israel & those grafted in to acknowledge are found in Leviticus. He’s the same today, yesterday and tomorrow hebrews 13:8

That’s not what Valentine’s Day is for not just for marriage or boyfriends it’s mostly about Jesus and his love for us and it’s about family to I hate when people bash it like it’s some pointless and disgusting holiday it makes people sound selfish and unloving what wrong with having a extra special day it does not hurt anybody for people to go all out for one day I understand why people would not like it or view it as pointless but that probably because they expect every day to be the same which is boring vanities day just makes it extra special because it gives people an excuse to buy gifts for there loved ones it’s not same feeling as if it was not a normal day. That’s why people like it 😊

You don’t understand the purpose of holidays. God gave us holidays in the Bible. We can make holidays in the same way for days of special recognition. The Bible does not say anything against celebrating holidays. Let’s not judge believers for things they practice that scripture doesn’t speak on. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind for himself and do it to the glory of God. That’s what scripture says.

@@beigekitten89 I never said anything about using empty, heavily marketed cultural holidays to justify practicing in sinful behaviors.
Read what I said again and stop thinking about your thought process and try to understand what I’m saying.
Whatever you do, do it to the glory of God. Do not stumble others with your freedom. Do not sin.
There’s nothing wrong with birthdays, baby showers, and other special days like valentines, Easter, and Christmas to show special appreciation for valuable things.
Valentine’s Day was created in memory of remembering St. Valentine who was killed for refusing to denounce Christianity, protecting and performing marriages as a Christian priest in Rome when it was made illegal and this special day of thanks is given to God for giving us marriage, and his special love he had for the jailers daughter who’s blindness was healed through prayer. Also, the holiday was created during a time when Rome was under a lot of religious tension and heavily converting to Christianity. It was a huge moment in history that changed the course of history and marriage forever. The creation of the holiday was used as a Christian holiday to replace the Roman holiday of fertility where they sacrificed animals and whipped women with strips of leather for one of their gods.
So I’d say the alternative is way better wouldn’t you say?
If someone wants to participate in Halloween, that’s okay as long as they are not doing anything actually sinful. Dressing up as witches, the dead, possessed people, or putting on satanic goat heads is not okay as a Christian.
Dressing up as a butterfly as a fun dress up day and fun social activity to go get candy with family and friends is totally different. Using the day to educate kids and others about the different ways the holiday is celebrated and why you celebrate it WAY differently as a witnessing tool, is WONDERFUL and God glorifying. We still stand out as “called out ones” not participating in the same deeds as Babylonians and Egyptians.
Wether believers choose to eat all veggies or meat, it doesn’t matter. Scripture doesn’t say anything about it. Let each be convinced in his own mind and not sin.
If you don’t want to celebrate ANY holidays, that’s OKAY. As long as you are fully convinced in your own mind but scripture tells us not to quarrel over these things that don’t matter.
Valentine’s Day might have an empty meaning today but that doesn’t mean we HAVE to celebrate it in the same way the world does. Halloween might have some people celebrate it in a wicked way, it doesn’t mean we have to do it the same way. We are fighting a spiritual AND cultural war doing this. We are going out and influencing the culture for Christ.
You know what I did for my family for Valentine’s Day? Made them heart shaped PB+J sandwiches with jelly crosses on them, told them about the history of valentines and the Biblical value of marriage while I used it as another opportunity to share the gospel with them and make my everyday celebration of me and my husbands marriage under God, extra special.
You’re not going to find anything in the Bible going against that.

What is the name of the Greek and Roman god of love, desire, and attraction that now is one of the main symbols of Valentine's Day and love in general? Hint: he was the son of Venus. His name was CUPID
This is why I walked away altogether, Christianity never believed in keeping the bible, not the baptists, not the Pentecostals, not the church of Christ, none of them, the bible would say to do one thing and they would do something different and then the preacher would say well the Lord spoke to my heart and he told me to do it that way. I finally had enough of it and just walked away, and I kept thinking if these Christians refuse to serve this God and break his commandments and do whatever they feel like whenever they want to and even lie and say the Lord spoke to me earlier and told me to, then what is the point of it?
    So I just walked away.
Even Dr. James White the big holy ghost filled Christian scholar was getting three sheets to the wind drunk at Reformicon while getting tattoos. I don't think the Christians take the bible anymore seriously than Dr. Seuss Cat In The Hat.

He's being neutral which in essence is wrong. The bible never mentions a "valentines day" nor does God promote a day for sexual desire all the HOLY DAYS are mentioned in the bible But AMERICA doesn't even know 3 of them(feast of tabernacle, passover, purim, etc((2 of which replace Christmas and Thanksgiving))) they want us to celebrate only what was created by man(Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, new years, etc) even making us take a day off work to do them. You guys can't be confused. If God didn't mention it In the bible its hand made by man and there fore Satan. Don't let this guy tell you that your to celebrate anything not outlined in the bible, that is false and he's keeping you under the impression that America is still God fearing but there isn't one holiday that makes mention of christ expect Christmas but the title is where that ends. The representation of Christmas is santa..not christ. When was the last time you prayed over your gifts in the name of the Lord? When was the last time you saw a commercial or ad that makes mention of christ on that day? 🤔 this guy is spreading a "lukewarm" doctrine and at the end GOD will spew you out during judgement.🤷🏼
