    Two months ago I sold my 2011 Subaru STI Sedan with 266,000km (~165,000 miles) and it was somehow the most reliable car I ever owned, this is even more surprising when considering that it was tuned (only about 310WHP), it had over 4 owners and it was originally a lease in Quebec Canada so it definitely had a rough life.
    The car was still on the original engine, transmission, turbo and head gaskets. I don't know if I got lucky with mine but I never had to replace anything in that car other than an O2 sensor. I am not saying that these cars are reliable but my STI was bulletproof and it was overall pretty well built. Great cars!

    Been driving my 2017 sti for almost 5 years. Zero issues at all! I drive it like I stole it every once in a while doing like an Italian tune up to burn out those carbon deposits, :). I mean the more than 300 horses under the hood is more than enough for you to enjoy a rally car, lol!

    • @billnguy

      What do you mean by Italian tune up? I was thinking of buying a 2019 STI from this guy, he kept the engine stock and just brakes upgrade, exhaust so that's good. It has like 48k miles. Do you guys recommend bringing it to a Subaru expert to double check before I buy? The owner works on cars so as you know they can play with parts and I don't know. But he had like 40 cars so don't think he'd drive it crazy since he has much faster cars. Thanks!

That was an anomaly for Subaru and a black mark for them in that year.., then a 2015 WRX, which also I needed to sell. But that too was a great car. The STI is a vehicle that is intentionally bought for all the reasons you described. You dont just happen to end up with one. One of the comments mentioned an "analog feel" which I think is 100% accurate. I owned a 2006 Gray STI and regret getting rid of it. I think about it at least once per day. When I drive by one it feels strange like excitement and then a bit sad (hard to explain). I'll be in the market for a new truck soon (Gladiator Mojave) but I keep thinking of the STI. We'll dance again one day.

    Sit are very reliable. It's when we abuse the motor, push it beyond its limit without making proper adjustments, then they give you trouble. But that's with any car. As long as you drive reasonably, responsibly, then it is good. It is ok to drive spiritedly once a while but to do it every day, and push it every time you drive, launch controls, then it gets expensive. I love my 2020 STI, and it is amazing. Every time puts a smile on my face. Exactly what you say, maintain it properly.

    💯When I bought my 2019 I was initially considering possibly getting a WRX, but once I drove it, I was pretty let down by the transmission and shifter feel. I was coming from a 2005 Boxster S with Hydraulic Steering and a great shifter with modifications, so it was a big shoe to fill. Once I drove the STi, I was amazed at the difference between it and the WRX...To me, it's a night and day difference that is not really reflected when you just look at the specs. It's the choice for people who care more about driving FEEL. Same thing with the other models out there...I considered Type R(too ridiculous looking), and Golf R(too boring). STi is the goldilocks of the bunch in my opinion.

    Glad you’ve had good luck with it but I’d like to share my story because many CZcamsrs only like to show the good and never the bad. I unfortunately have had the biggest love hate relationship with my 17 STI. I’m similar to you and I am very on top of maintenance. I have had the car since new and was running it with FBOs and EVERY supporting mod money can buy. Id also like to add this car is my daily and I’m not very hard on it at all. So all was going good until about 27k miles when it decide to develop a rod knock. The metal from the bearings wiped out everything and a new long block was needed along with everything else the metal had touched. I dropped it off at a very reputable shop and $16,000ish later I had a new long block installed with more fueling and a Dom 1.5xtr 10cm. This doesn’t included the prior 10k I threw at it before on parts and labor. So here I now sit always on edge with a 64k+ STI. I could of had a hell of a car with warranty for that. I suggest everyone unless your rolling in money to just leave it stock.

    • @Scoobyfreak86
      @Scoobyfreak86  Před 3 lety +2

      Sorry to hear your unfortunate issues with yours. One thing I wanted to mention is this video, but never did is that any performance oriented car will have that Achilles heal. Even the best of the best have catastrophic issues. However, it’s just a game we play when we modify our cars. Things can happen and we just have to deal with it. We all have to know that these things can happen going into it. I just find it funny when people blame the car when they are putting down crazy power on the stock block. Not to say that’s what you did, but there’s a good amount of people that blame the car and not the user/mods.
      I’m not just sharing the good. I’m just sharing my own personal experience. If something were to happen, I would 100% share it with everyone. This is just my experience with my 3 Subarus over the course of a decade and what I’ve done to keep that positive experience.
