      I was just in my local store and they had both this and a Clavinova that was similar and newer and I chose the Roland in the end because the graded keys, the Roland has wooden keys as well, more speakers, and more voices. Also when the salesperson adjusted the “brightness” and how “mellow” the sound came out to match the Yamaha sound, it eliminated the slight artificial sound that Yamaha fanatics dislike. Up to you though!

    • @ggggplayer416
      @ggggplayer416 Před 4 lety +4

      Fuuuh it's strange competition.
      1) 704 has uncoparably better keyboard action, touch feeling, dynamic, just miss the fully wooden keys, has just visible wooden keysides but it doesn't matter.
      2) 704 has better real noise and ressonance feeling, so it feels like acoustic piano.
      3) Samples beauty. It's very personal point, but I prefere Yamaha GrandPiano sound of samples and Yamaha Bensdorf sound to Roland 603 Piano samples sound,which is create with natural modeling sound algorithm, because 603 sounds little bit more atrifical, too metalic, so has less natural sound for me, not for everyone. 704 sounds better than 603 I don't know why, but as Rudy said in video 704 has better modeling sound to previos models with sound modelling algorithm although should be the same. I think Roland made any algorithm or sound generator upgrade that sounds better and quite naturally not artifically. So 704 sound naturality is good as yamaha. There is just problem with 704 if you exactly love bernsdorf sound or yamaha grand piano which roland hasn't. This is only one weighted point to Yamaha 645. Many others points preferes Roland 704.
      Now I'm deciding if buy roland hp-603 or this hp-704 with add +300eur to pay. I will solve this after real touch and play on boths. I feel to buy 704, but who will explain it to my wife hardly agreed Roland RP-501 price tag :-).

  • @pengi35
    @pengi35 Před 5 lety

    If you compare the lx 705 to hp 704, the difference is only in the pure acoustic modeling. Is pure acoustic that much better, so that Roland ask 400 euros more for basically the same piano. I was thinking to buy the lx705, but if I could spare some money... I am asking if it makes sense to buy lx705 if there is the hp704.

    • @st0rmchild

      @@st0rmchild Thanks, I expected somehow this answer. I asked on a forum about differences between both modeling methods and somebody posted sample midi files. I found the lx705 to be a little bit more pleasant to my ears, but not 400 euros more pleasant. Anyway the store in my city still doesn't have the hp704 in the showroom. Guess I will have to wait.

    • @st0rmchild
      @st0rmchild Před 5 lety

      Yeah that sounds about right. The LX705 is also a little bit bigger and you might prefer the way it looks as a piece of furniture. That could also play a role in whether it's worth the extra cost. I actually like the lower profile of the HP704, but that's mostly because it's in the center of a room rather than up against a wall.

    So lx705 or 704?

    • @st0rmchild
      @st0rmchild Před 5 lety +13

      The main difference is the new PureAcoustic engine (which describes both the piano modeling and the acoustic/spatial room simulation) vs. SuperNatural Modeling. They both have the same keys (the excellent PHA-50, which I really like). I tried them both in the store and couldn't hear anything especially different about the LX705. The only thing I noticed was the room simulation (which is basically a kind of reverb with some spatial separation at different frequencies), and to be honest I prefer the more direct sound of the HP704, which still has room simulation, but I find it more subtle and tasteful. Of course, a store is not a great environment to hear subtle details in sound. If it's really important to you, you should bring some high quality headphones to a store that has both of these and spend a decent amount of time testing and comparing.
      I think the LX705 looks a little bit nicer (well, a little bit more like a real upright), but functionally I actually prefer the HP704. For some reason I'm not a big fan of the way the music stand in the LX705 pulls out (I found it a bit fiddly and managed to pinch my fingers trying to close it). On the HP704 you can fold the music stand down flat on top, which gives it a nice low profile. Because I put it in the center of a room, the lower profile is better for me. If plan to put it up against a wall, that won't matter, and you might prefer the ability to put something on top (maybe a light for sheet music).
      I don't think you can go wrong with either one. They both look, sound, and feel great. It's up to you whether you think the extra features of the LX705 are worth a few hundred dollars more. For me the answer was no, so I bought the HP704.

      If you have an HP605, you're right…there's no compelling reason to upgrade. Do you actually need to upgrade though? The 605 is still a fantastic digital piano and should last a long time. I tested the LX706 with the newer keybed and, while it's ever so slightly nicer, it makes very little difference over the PHA-50. I don't think it's even remotely worth the significant jump in price. If you just want an even more beautiful piece of furniture, by all means, you should check out the LX706 or LX708. They are stunning. They also have more speakers and sound amazing. But to me the experience of actually playing the piano is not significantly better than the HP704 or LX705.
