The "Oslo Opera House" (Operahuset) is the award-winning, iconic building that is the home of the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet School, and the national opera house in Norway. The building is in the "Bjørvika" neighborhood of central Oslo, at the head of the "Oslofjord". It is operated by "Statsbygg", the government agency which manages property for the Norwegian government. The structure (opened in 12 April 2008) contains 1,100 rooms in a total area of 49,000 m2. The main auditorium seats 1,364 and two other performance spaces can seat 200 and 400. The main stage is 16 m wide and 40 m deep. It is the largest cultural building constructed in Norway.
"Bjørvika" is a neighborhood in the Sentrum borough of Oslo, Norway. The area is an inlet in the inner Oslofjord. This revitalized port district is known for its strikingly contemporary architecture, including "Oslo Opera House" _ the home of the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, and the national opera house in Norway _ and the "Barcode" _ a collection of futuristic office and residential buildings. Across the street and towards the fjord, lies the new "Munch Museum" _ an art museum dedicated to the life and works of the Norwegian artist "Edvard Munch" and the new building was opened in 2021.
