Back in the day in pre season 1, there was legit role as "river" evelynn or alistar. At lvl 1 you went bot lane, u wait for lvl 2 and then, you just lived in river ganking every lane as often as you could.

Another powerful strategy that I encountered way back was pre-rework AP Sion midlane going boots of mobility and then roaming to other lanes for easy ganks. He totally took over the game and before I noticed he left the lane he was spotted running full speed over a ward, but it was too late to escape at that point and my lanes got destroyed by his continous roams.

I am by no means a good player (Peaked at Plat 1 this season Plat 3 now) but I managed to take ADC onhit W max ivern with an afk supp and end up 2v1ing the lane in iron 2. You saying that is the realist thing I've ever read, you can play LITERALLY anything at that rank and do well once you understand mechanics and the fundamentals of the game.
@@aMolleTargate That's what I'm trying to say at that level You can play literally anything at that level and eventually be able to climb once you've got a proper understanding of the game. This was beyond an off meta pick and in any other elo it would be considered hard trolling. but it worked because I had a better understanding of the game, even in a 2v1 situation I was able to play around the few advantages I had to make my own lead, and snowball with it.

Full AD crit Thresh was the most fun offmeta build ive ever done, building 1 IE and reducing the enemy's health to half was so fun, and after 4 ie you can literally oneshot any squishies on the enemy team

I got my first penta in ranked as Yorick. I was #15 yorick enthusiast in the world. He was the first champ I ever purchased in the store. I have a lot of fond memories with the old Yorick. I was happy with his kit and I was glad he was under-appreciated by the community and Riot.
Then I played the new one a dozen times and I couldn't even stomach him anymore. They ruined him.

Those 2 on morgana support (before it wad cool hehe) got me to plat for the 1st time.
When Thresh first came out, I remember using AD Thresh top. Think his souls gave him 1:1 magic damage on the first 100 souls back then and this was also release BotRK. His extra damage auto attack was also on his Q, so you maxed that first.

Just for clarity sake thresh wasnt released at the same time as thresh. When thresh came out they actually change botrk from magic to psychical damage on the passive. But it was still basically release Blade.

IIRC she had the highest damage crit in the entier game. actually i wonder how it compaires to max crit dmg jinn.
it was like a jhin were all his autos were on 4 and he could select only 1 person to take damage from so he could 1v5 with zero fucks.

The saddest thing about poppy's rework is that she lost her identity in the process. She used to be an assassin with determination, one who could ult, get to her target while ignoring everyone else, and smash it in a wall, crack its skull open with her hammer and be on her way. That play style fitted her storyline so well but she got nerfed and nerfed until she basically dealt so little dmg that you could hardly call her an assassin anymore. Than the bruiser hype came along and they reworked her a bit later after that as a more of a bruiser with determination(now represented by her shielding mechanic).
When you look at it, she suffered the same problem as alistar did, having an overpowered defensive ult that punishes the other team for trying to stop you when you dive into them. People got mad(rightfully so) when akali got her rework with her shroud making her immune to turret, but that was part of poppy's kit all along. Dives are exciting but I think Riot has always intended them to be at least potentially risky. Sure there are better divers than others, but anyone could dive on poppy, just R, right-click, than E into a wall/turret, aa-reset with Q and gg.
What I hope I'll see in season 10 is a pro team winning with a wall team : Anivia+poppy+Qiyana, because it feels like it could make for amazing plays.
there was also a oneshot build after the rework, i think it was Titanic Hydra-Yoummu-RFC/shiv-Trinity/Gauntlet-IE, Deadman's, basically you'd run around with Deadman on and once you had a target Yoummu and W to gain more MS and also proc Sheen, then activate Hydra and the proc dmg on the AA was fucking disgusting, if you managed to snowball hard you could one or twoshot carrys without much issue, she was really strong after the rework too so it wasnt hard to do

Back in the day you had to choose between damage on abilities OR damage on auto-attack. So you could build Ability Power (AP) items or Attack Damage (AD) items.
Nowadays with non-sense AD caster champ like Talon, Zed, Riven, Darius etc... we lost every off-meta possibilities. There's no more choices between actual AD or AP.

I loved old yorick there was no bad way to build him. 80% of your opponents didnt know what he did so you could play people heck even your team would get confused when you revive them. Idk how many times id bring back some one and theyed either stand there not knowing there alive or run away and then time out in confusion. I miss him alot

I'm disappointed that you didn't include AP Xin Zhao. Back in the day, Xin Zhao had a 70% AP ratio on his healing and an 60% AP ratio on his E. You go Attack Speed Runes, build Berserker Greaves, Lich Bane, and Nashor's Tooth. You then basically became Dr. Mundo with a dash. No one could kill you through your healing. AP Xin Zhao went where he pleased and solo'd every tower and Baron.
I feel like he became much weaker in jungle and more strong on top line. He is the single toplaner who doesn't need teleport because he can heal frow everything. My winrate on him 65%.
But much scary than ap xin zhao is ap jax. Thats some assasin, you don't need big brain move or something else. I can't believe no one ever detected it.

We all know the best Off Meta 'champion' is the Ohmwrecker item itself. Mark my words; Ohmwrecker will be a core item on every champion. You can trust me.
I used to build Ohmwrecker on every dive support I played back in S6. The speedboost + free dives it gave was very snowbally.

As someone who cut off LoL around the start of season 3, I remember when Support Naut was considered a niche pick. I even remember seeing a video on CZcams of that very thing, and next thing you know, he became meta. I talk about these old thing with my friends who still play, and it seems crazy that some old niche playstyles are now meta.

When I was new to league I played ad thresh mid because I never knew he was a support
ADC Kennen back when Runaan's and Rageblade stacked his W passive twice as fast was the best ADC hands down.

About the AD scaling question
One or two season back in the days, when Sion used to be a lane bully, his Q had a 200% total AD ratio, so AD sion could stomp easily, but he got a big nerf.
Now his lvl 1 Q has 125% total AD, but in lvl 5 Q now he has 225% total AD, that's why lethality Sion works, you can get a 800dmg fully charged Q with only 2 items

AD Maokai was another fun brawler ADC. For some reason he had the highest base AD (not sure if that's still true) He had a fun play style of throwing out a sapling into brush/over the wall then rooting to any enemies you find and then just hitting them till they died. He wasn't ever the strongest ADC but was at least a fun one.
Remember the good old Tresh + Bliz combo in bot lane? Pretty fun stuff.
I still play Rengar + Invern bot, i suggest to try it, it is pretty disgusting once you reach to lv 3.

This wasn’t because they were good, but just because the enemy had no idea how to play against it. Lethal Tempo Braum Jungle was so fun to me for that exact reason. It took me back to when I first started playing.

Alistar has(had?) one of the highest base ad. Sheen scales of base ad. Using attackmove, you could use W, followed by an AA for massive damage.

Surprised AD Jungle Malzahar didn't make the list in some form. Right after rework it was broken, but before rework it was a really interesting hidden gem that could solo objectives better than anyone and 1 button gank

when classic urf was up , AD full crit thresh was my go to free win build , i dont think most people know this but in urf thresh's passive builds up faster , so you can one shot more than one person in a team fight , is awesome .

The cool thing about this video is that most of the strategies featured are things I played or theorycrafted before they got popular. I had the idea to funnel jungle in Season 2, I played AP Amumu and Sej back then too because of those ABSURD AP Ratios. Jungle Karthus was an attempt in Season 3. I played Top Graves and Support Item Top day 1

Pre re-work tank karma top lane was absolutely brutal. She was impossible to kill, too fast to be ganked, she sped up her jungler for ganks and had inbuilt sustain.
I played triforce hybrid karma top to diamond in season 2 or 3 i think :D

@@copper7086 I also suggest riverpyke, he works even better. Just constantly pull enemies towards your mates and stun with E. works better than shen even tho pyke is very fragile. But its very fun, i OTP'D him jungle for a very long time. A bit weak early but extremely annoying to go against and at 6 you can still penta with his R.
@@CODA96 shen is kinda better for me bcs his e take full scuttle shield he is also tanky and if u have adc that can 2v1 bot u just need to gank every minute force objectives and u win i will try river pyke too!

I used to play shaco/blitz both full ap botlane with my cousin, back then when you could place shaco's boxes on top of eachother. If the blitz managed to hook you, you were dead instantly. It was the most fun i ever had in lol.

Ya, it's part of why I wandered away from the game. That and teamfights now look like someone threw up a box of crayons on my monitor while everyone is dying in less than 3 seconds.
People whined about the 'tank meta' being boring or when bruisers were strong, but durability actually mattered back then.
You should see back in seasons 1-3. That shit could swing back and worth before a team was killed

The whole concept of how we've been playing botlane for years now is pure and simple funneling.
IO + Tiny mid in DotA has been around for ages as well and is funneling in its purest form.
Yes it is. Naturally its developed since its early stages. But it was essentially funnelling. Riot added support items since this strategy had just become standard and having a guy forced into getting no gold or items every game wasnt exactly their idea of fun. Personally i thought it was fun just getting boots and then spending everything on wards, because supports never were about items. They are about their kit being effective regardless of how well they've been doing in a game

Back before his rework I messed around with Shen as an auto attack duelist for a little bit. It was a pretty fun time, mostly for giggles in casual.

The Thresh part really reminded me of the oldest variation of RFC/AS thresh when the passive used to be on his Q.

I used to hybrid mana stack on ezreal. Boots, 2 manamune, 2 ap tear of goddess and iceborn gauntlet. You like 400 ad and 400 AP with that build.

The other part of AP Alistar that was nerfed was that, as soon as you Headbutt the enemy, you could animation cancel to perform a Sheen-boosted Auto Attack that would do huuuge damage.
Another powerful strategy that I encountered way back was pre-rework AP Sion midlane going boots of mobility and then roaming to other lanes for easy ganks. He totally took over the game and before I noticed he left the lane he was spotted running full speed over a ward, but it was too late to escape at that point and my lanes got destroyed by his continous roams.
I like how you used music from my 1st game I fall with to my gamer life. And mix it with the current game i play now a days :)

I must say that I really like this video as it feels it has broadened my open mind to things that are different and/or don't fit in just yet because the picture hasn't become clear enough. Which I gotta say "Thank You" Exil
As after watching this video it has caused me to have this feeling to theorize about champions and what they could become and testing it out when I have a "full gang" of friends to play with so I can test out different ideas instead of always having to do what is inside the box(Riot recommendations). Which isn't bad I just think it can cause a sense of things getting stale and leaves the idea of creativity outside the window.
Lastly to summarize the paragraphs up above. I find that you have opened up another door to which I could try things out for fun and to see what can actually work either in a real ranked game, or just a fun way to play a champ. Which after trying it out with a group of friends( 5 man) , then perhaps ranked flex, and finally trying it out on solo/duo . But I do know that if I were to do something off meta in ranked I would get flak for it as the same or even more for when I just do bad in a game . Again, Thank you Exil for posting this video.
I saw a Garen jungle hyper carry once. Absolutely insane and unstoppable. Also, River Rat is a play style too that can be very potent.
I really like off-meta Trynd builds. Saw videos of AP Trynd wrecking pretty hard, and I personally have enjoyed building tank Trynd occasionally when playing ARAM. So much survivability spamming Q and using R when needed, then just spinning away when you need to.
