This item broke the balance of the game, broke the patch notes, and broke op champs into being impossible for league of legends to balance. Many low elo players could win with these champions and mages such as Ahri Veigar and LeBlanc were the perfect mid laners for climbing and showed how to climb in low elo. Ah the good old days of league. Even with this broken item, season 3 and 4 were probably the best seasons we will ever have in league
I don't know about that... There is a lot of nostalgia going around for those seasons because a lot of the people playing league started playing during that time, myself included.
But the meta had some ridiculous shit going on back then too, top meta consisted of 3 champions (Renekton, Shyvanna, Dr mundo (can't remember correctly if mundo was the top 3) with sunfire cape being bonkers. Mid had permabanned kassadin, DFG shenanigans, LB and Talon making sure you had no counter play while they killed you, and arguably an even stronger version of the Malzahar we have today. (No banshee's veil passive but had way more damage loaded in his kit, also used DFG to just nuke you with W+R.)
Feral Flare is also something that happened during that time,boy getting literally one shotted by warwick R sure was fun, wasn't it?
There were a lot of issues back in the day too, but they are rose tinted nowadays thanks to nostalgia.
@@Godinice that permaban kass was because of xpeke not because it was busted. Everybody wanted to bd. It would annoy you if youre allied with him or playing against him. And the s4 top lane meta was the best. It wasnt an island. The best top laners are plank champs who could tp and get to the enemy backline (looper tp) like rumble maokai and singed. All of them you can exploit in the lane. The jungle was the best in s4 too. Mobility was king in the jungle with the best being rengar jarvan lee sin and kha zix and maybe elise. Midlane is busted in s4 tho. If you win mid youre likely to win the game. Fizz ori kat leblanc and akali was busted. Aggressive adc was rewarded back then. And supports would roam after 1st back.
Tldr: the fast paced era in s4 was LoL. Thats why people started playing the game. I played it when i got burned out from playing dota which is slower than league. Then comes season 5 when they tried to slow the game down. Why would i play LoL if i have a better intense high action long game like dota?

@@markpagtama7954 Actually Kassadin was outright broken back in the day. There was nothing you could do against him when they gave him the buff that he restores mana when he damages a champ with his ult.
Also his ult had +200 range in comparison to his ult today. Also he had a point and click silence that lasted for 1.5-2 (cant remember correctly)
Also he built tanky cause he was melee so he was hard to kill with his mobility.
Also back then mobility was really low and adc's had like 1 dash if even one and no cheating ults like today (Xayah ult invul and kaisa ult dash plus shield)
He could outright beat any ap champion in lane, and then he would scale into lategame better than them.
His only weakness was ad assassins like Talon and Zed and only Talon would outright win vs Kassadin
Zed still required skill to beat kassadin
That is why Kassadin was banned every single match in ranked in seasons 2-3-4
He had like 95% bann rate at some point

The Cho was the truly insane DFG user back in the day. By the time they realized that Cho was doing assassin damage the RoA had finished stacking, and I've got 6+ feast stacks and am basically a tank who also one shots other tanks, let alone squishies lol

veigar was my first main. My build was dfg into straight magic pen, and because of utl+dfg there were VERY few champs I couldn't one shot with that combo. Irelia was the only troublemaker with her innate tenacity or whatever it was called back then. She could get out of the stun haha

unbalanced bullshit, games still lasted longer and were so much more fun. people talk about no counterplay nowadays but it’s really a game of Who Can Burst Who First?

@@cooledry as i said talon was really good counter to kassadin considering that talon had longer range on his silence + he is AD so pretty much could oneshot him on silence because kassadins passive reduces only magic damage. Everything had their counters but assasins with silence were broken af

The worst/best thing about that song is that the patch after that song got released, they removed DFG from the game.
10:40 Veig's R also scaled way better off of your OPPONENTS AP. His R made it worrisome to build lots of AP in your kit, because when he ulted you your AP helped kill you.
An early banshee veil..was nice..and going cleanse or barrier summoner against dfg nonsense
Not to mention, his E back then wasn't delay at all, if he knonw how to E in right place, 100% you got stunned and died in under a second

I remember walking into my own jungle and all I saw was a viegar trap and a spark of the DFG and my 3400 HP singed died in one combo. That happened 9 years ago. It's still in my memory.

You missed something crucial, DFG was so good, it took a champion that was intended to be a brawler, and made him a mage, Mordekaiser. With DFG Morde used to be able to one shot the enemy ADC, then Zhonyas, and let the enemy ADC kill the enemy team.

This video, and particularly the Veigar gameplay, was particularly interesting to me. I haven't played League all that much, but by coincidence, when I was playing it this particular item was in its prime, and... I almost purely played mages- especially Veigar.
The great majority of the time when I watch your videos, I am not entirely sure what champions can do and don't really 'grasp' everything going on on screen. With Veigar though, that wasn't the case and I was carefully watching the cooldowns, enemy champions, how much time was on the clock, the damage they were dealing... It was very interesting seeing how a very small part of me that still recollects this game rose to the surface.

One thing I feel that is really different from the earlier seasons is that back then fights ended a lot quickier and while there were absurdly powerful things (Ahri with DFG, old Draven with IE, and so on), but things felt a lot more fun. Because everyone could die in a second, except for the tanks, outplaying your opponent would feel really good and it seemed to require a lot of skill. Your windows were a lot shorter, you didn't have 3 barriers and 2 heals and your skills were on half time. If you missed that Ahri's E, and if you're not absurdly fed, chance is you're getting blown up.
On modern league, however, fights go on forever. Everyone has a heal, everyone has shield, everyone has dashes, jumps, teleports, flash, a secondary flash, extra movement speed and so on. And the champions are a lot tankier too - back then Riot would often say they couldn't find a place for Bruisers, since they would always turn out as tanky assassins, full tnaks with no damage or regular assassins. But now, every damn champion is a bruiser. Back then making an Annie support was fun because there was a real cost attached to it and you had to trade a lot of utility for a stun and extra damage. Now you have a literal assassin-support.
Things were broken back then, but, if this makes any sense, to me it was a fun type of broken, unlike modern league.

10%+10%+5% is not 35, and few non supports even take that path.
40% is not the norm on every character lul.
It might not be the norm on every character now but it is still very easy to get 40% cdr PLUS you can get 45% with runes.
Basically every mage and support has 40% after their first item.....

especially for bruiser items that basically all ad champs can build (black cleaver even giving 20%), literally all finished lethality items, and most mage items (archangels and ludens have 20%) and even trinity got 10 nowadays, even warmogs and spirit visage got 10% each

Honestly that's what support should be. That's how game came to be naturally, having one player that wouldn't farm but specialise in supporting team was the most efficient. That emphasizes the strategic part of the game. Now we have full on frontline tanks, assasins and ap mages because this role just generates that much gold for no reason
@@likenot3073 Actually I think it's more due to the fact that supports no longer serve an essential role. Supports used to be responsible for vision control and peel, but nowadays everyone can get a sweeper for free, adc's die in a blink from most assasins and aren't as valuable anyways and gold income items are indeed strong without repercussions. This generally results in a team comp where it's more beneficial to pick an additional tank, assasin or apc that has slightly less gold.

You forgot a silly stat that I heard from either Zirene or Jatt a few years ago when they removed it. A lot of the best DFG users winrates actually went up after the removal of DFG and a large part of that was due to the majority of the playerbase at the time buying the item because they saw pros or streamers buy it and forgetting to actually use the active which was the most broken active to ever exist in league.

Ap tristana pre rework with DFG was the most busted thing. Literally once you got DFG you could w towards someone (didn't have to hit them), DRG->E->R and they would die.

as an old ap tristana main, i can confirm dfg removal was bad. however when they reworked her e she died. this happened like I wanna say a year or so after they got rid of dfg and i was devastated. ap trist with dorans ring mid and at level 1 did a 150 damage with the e, and i mean straight up like after taxes
I miss AP trist so much... I used to play the shit out of it, and I still try to do it every now and then, but it just doesn't work as well.
i always loved zephyr as any bruiser i played, since at the time tenacity was a commodity and it gave both AS and AD
