I have a ‘68 case 480ck loader. No backhoe, gas 159 still going strong. Very dependable more then enough power and great power steering. Been working hard for us since we bought it back in 2000!

I strongly advise 4 wheel drive on any small loader tractor. It helps immensely.

I bought a 354 Dong Feng Terraplane. Three cyl diesel loader and front wheel assist. This Mennonite had it and his sons used it for a bulldozer. bent the front bucket. Hyd wouldnt lift when warmed up. Ran good I paid $1500. My eldest Son wanted it. I he paid me my $1500. and i threw in a 5 ft brushogg. He changed all the fluids and filters. Then the hyd valves would bypass when warmed up. So he changed them. Then the hyd cyls went to bypassing so he put new seals in them. Now he has a great little handy tractor. Just right for his three acre spread. He has been using it three years no other problems.

one of the most dangerious things is a tractor with a front loader. Never travel with the bucket raised. keep that bucket or forks as low as possible when moving. only raise it just as you get to where your going to dump ect. Those will turn over in a heartbeat.

We've got a Case IH 840 4WD with loader, it's sure worth it.

  • @thecollectoronthecorner7061

In my collection I have a 300 industrial international. C165 gas engine. live hyds. I like that all the hyd pump & valves ect are external. I wanted to put a front loader on it. However it dont have power steering. I am 70 years old and am not going to even think about a front end loader on a tractor that dont have power steering. I went to a single front tire on my trycycle row crop M Farmall to make it steer easier. Crazy D might be better off to remove that loader and sell the two parts seperate? Times have changed and folks aint as rough and tough as they where back in the day. They want power steering.

If that 424 had power steering, it would handle as well as anything. Hydraulic system left much to be desired...remotes are a good thing, you know! I have a B414 diesel which is very much the same tractor as the 424...same engine and mostly same back end. I realized it was a stupid buy without power steering so I bought a parts tractor to get the power steering and front axle! PS may not mean much if you're on a farmall super c, but trying to back trailers, connect attachments, or handle in any tight space or slow speed.
No PS, no interest from me!

CD - you forgot to touch upon operator safety of the operator on the Kubota vs the IH, and I'm not sure what shift patterns on the 2 tractors are, but we've had both hydros/shuttle shifts and gear shifts and shifting gears every time to load bales or manure can wear a guy out. IH beats a shovel and wheel barrow, but not much else.

I've got my eyes on a John deere 2020 it has a loader but no bucket. Plus it has been sitting. What would you suggest would be a good price for it as is? I'm not sure what model loader. It is also a gas engine tractor.

Ive got a 2010 industrial JD with a loader. Its a POS. nicknamed old leaky the power steering works thru the steering sector. and sometimes the hyd fluid comes up thru the steering collum. I paid $2250. not one of my better deals. I also own a 301A JD industrial. Its a 3 cyl gas. A joy to operate. steers with one finger. power brakes. low to the ground easy to get on it. Has a half canopy that gives you shade on a hot day. starts right up on the coldest days. I bought it for $750 . I tend to buy tractors like the one you describe. All you can do is offer scrap price. Parts are expensive and sometimes you cannot find those parts. and if your not a mechanic with the needed tools you dont need to mess with junk. The best option is if you can rent a tractor for a week or so and try it out before making a commitment to buy.

Just bought a new Kubota, the power steering and front wheel assist makes one hell of a difference.
Easily cut the job time in half by not having to shift between gears and the ease of operation.
I miss the two stick loader control but I guess I will just have to suffer while I get comfortable with this new fangled one stick control.... lol.
Seriously, I love the old stuff I grew up around and it still gets the job done but I'm kicking myself for not getting a more modern tractor on the place sooner.

That all fine and dandy but most people could use a little work out in the arms .No power steering put a square cement block on 3 point that will put the front a little easier to steer .and less or no work out at those gym's.cjd wash state 🤔

It sure wouldn't be a kabota my brother bought one new at 275 hrs hydro hydraulics went out they covered it but shook his confidence ,paint was wore off at all contact points from getting on and off it's loader tractor relationship was so he had to had fluid and wheel weights still not enough hydro pedals had bad angle he had to raise seat to be in more comfortable operating position started in more trouble at 600 hrs he had it sold shortly after .

fill the rear tires with fluid. beet juice works well and will not freeze or rust the rims.

Loaders are loaders. Farm tractors are farm tractors. Easiest way in the world to destroy your perfectly good farm tractor is to put a loader on it.

I agree to a point....if a guy puts a loader on a Ag tractor and thinks he now has a bulldozer, and begins pushing and shoving trees down on the fencerow, why definitely Yes he is going to destroy it fast...Meanwhile back at the Ranch... Farmer Jones has a loader on his Ag tractor and is using good old Common Sense and it's serving him well.
