- Therapist analyzes the lyrics of Aenima by Tool to discuss the reality that sometimes change can be a cleansing part of our lives and we can use this song as a call to learn to swim, adapt and move forward.

Only uncensored TOOL songs please
Lmao, I've never even heard the censored version, it totally caught me offguard... Man, of all tracks to censor, this one haha
Uncensored any song it pertains too. 💯
I heard it censored often in the 90s, with how much radio play it got. Was awesome, too, being how long the song is!
@@kevzehsame lol, was not ready for dead vocal silences
This is why I have not subbed, don't get me wrong but reactors must know their audience....
❤😂❤
"don't just call me pessimist
try and read between the lines" 💯🔥
"I can't understand why you wouldn't welcome any change, my friend."
@@ArkaeaFCL3 i always heard this as "i can't imagine why you wanna wear the many chains, my friend" its neat to see the actual lyric
Its time for the Lateralus🍄
Yeah boiii
Time to ride the spiral BAY-BEEEEE!
Jambi
I was just about to say the same thing
Right in two is also a great one and Push it
"Right in two"....will not disappoint, I promise.
Yeees!!! Absolutely!!
"Angels on the sideline again
benched along with patience and reason "
@@edwardmunoz7853 "Repugnant is a Creature who would squander the ability
To lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here"
With my username, I can only agree.
It's such a great song. The Humbling River reminds me of Right In Two.
After you have heard Prison S3x, this is the list you need to understand Maynard and his relationship with his mother and growth over time.
1. jimmy
2. Judith - A Perfect Circle
3. Orestes - A Perfect Circle
4. 10,000 Days
5. Wings for Marie
Absolutely, in terms of Maynard's relationship with his mother and Christianity. I would include "Talk, Talk" with that list of songs.
Anyone who doesn't cry to "10,000 Days/Wings for Marie" either isn't listening or doesn't have a soul. The love and anguish on those two songs is just so heavy.
@@michaelb1761 I would add Pnuema to this list as well
You can say sex
@@Rich_Harrison_MPHNot necessarily. If you are on CZcams's naughty list, they will delete your comments for the most innocuous stuff.
Wings for Marie (Pt1) , 10,000 Days (Wings Pt 2). They should be done in one video.
Yes. I second this!
After listening to Judith I would say
The first time i listened to those songs reading the lyrics i cried for like half an hour
After Jimmy and Judith
There is no sound like TOOL, there is no message like TOOL has. TOOL is a perfect band, and the music they release is the best music that has ever been! From their beginning to now.🌿🌸
They reached “Nirvana” so we can see it is possible.
This song is way more true today than it ever was, but not just for LA for the entire world!! It's definitely time to wash it all away!
Hmm, sounds like maybe you should just be speaking for yourself there.
well, let's just start with LA and see how it goes
Killing in Rangoon
No just america
@@Lleanlleawrg no, he is definitely not
If you really want to understand Maynard James Keenan you need to react to some of his more personal songs. It will break your heart, but you should absolutely react to first to Judith, by another of Maynard's projects A Perfect Circle and then Wings for Marie / 10,000 Days by Tool (if that's too long, just 10,000 days). There is context you'll need for both (like that Judith is Maynard's mom), but the growth demonstrated between the two songs that are separated by both time and tragedy showcase two very different ways of dealing with a personal grief that is very relatable to a lot of people.
that's a perfect combination of songs across his bands that will definitely show his personal growth... great suggestion
Jimmy on this same album
Horizons by Puscifer
I would argue Jambi on 10000 Days is about him and his feelings for his mom
I would also throw in Jimmy. It’s often overlooked as part of this song cycle but I think it marks an important part of the story.
@@israellister4548three great suggestions there!
The Judith journey. Jimmie, then A Perfect Circle's Judith. Next.. The Patient With A Perfect Circle's Orestes following that. Finish with Wings for Marie and 10,000 days. They all give insight to MJK's mental growth in dealing with his mothers faith, sickness and ultimate passing. All four are amazing songs by themselves. Once connected they are life changing.
I like your breakdowns. I appreciate the way you interpret the ideas in the songs.
Thank you Taylor 😊 "learn to swim" was the saying before spiral out
Jimmy! Have to listen to Jimmy!
my Fave
To fully get the Tool experience you have to listen to Rosetta Stoned. It’s unlike anything you have heard but it grows on you until it will make your top 5 Tool songs of all time.
My favorite Tool song. So unhinged and hilarious, and an absolute Danny Carey clinic.
every song by Tool is a journey, so to speak, a special experience, which cannot be found in any other band, except maybe Pink Floyd
"Don just call me pessimist, try to read between the lines"
Most of the Aenema album is about psychology. It has a lot to do with confronting the things in life that obstruct growth and transcending it. Check out H, Jimmy, Pushit and Third Eye
Definitely sn epic album the first 3 tool albums are iconic to me
46&2 also
The message I took away, as a teen, was that this was a message that in fact the world was a mess, that others recognized it, but that there was hope even through the anger.
same but there is little of hope and this song just keeps getting even more true by the day
@@patchworkmusic Of course, it was really only directed specifically at SoCal/LA, and he was "praying" for the San Andreas fault-line to let loose and dump the whole of southern California into the Pacific Ocean and flush it all away. Just a matter of time. 😂
But for everyone else on Earth that loves this, yep. The sentiments are kinda universally applicable. As I interpreted it, the only "hope" expressed was the hope that a better Phoenix would rise from the ashes - but first it all has to, you know, burn... 😔
Id recommend eulogy, awesome work and someone who's understands deeper meanings, excellent explanations ty so much ☺️
If you want a song that'll be a complete buffet for a therapist, Pushit should be next. You'll have sooooo much to talk about in the lyrics
Yes, you can look at this song as just some cathartic exercise in nihilism, but it's actually a call for change and progress.
The Patient by Tool is a must!!
Her first explanation is spot on, with the unconscious feminine/unconscious masculine. I believe Maynard explained 'Ænima' very similarly.
H. & Jambi
this was THE SONG that got me into Tool way back in the 90s
its an all-time classic
I appreciate your optimism as unfounded as it may be
I was lucky enough to see one of Bill Hicks' final performances, the guy was incredible. I can only imagine what he would have to say about the state of things today! I saw Tool (on their Opiate tour) open for the Rollins Band, then again on their tour for Undertow. They had grown an unbelievable amount as a band in that time - completely blew my mind...
that had to be a treat. Hicks was gone by the time I had heard of him from the tribute on Aenima.
Commenting just to show my support 😊 keep going and thanks for the hardwork! im waiting for more Ren reactions! love from Brazil ❤
Thanks for being here :) - T
Death Blooms or Nothing To Gein by Mudvayne would make for good reactions too imo 😁
death blooms is a great suggestion! cool for-it's-time video, with a horrific but sincere message
any Mudvayne would be a great fit for Taylor and this channel to review
So many songs that you need to do to understand TOOL. Here are just a few... The Patient, Pushit, H, Jimmy, Wings for Marie + 10000 Days, Right in Two, and the holy trinity Disposition, Reflection, Triad. I love your reactions, keep em coming!
This is a great list! I would add Undertow & Eulogy 👍🏼
Also I would add a few Perfect Circle staples...
The Hollow, Rose, judith, and 3 Libras
Had to add Flood as well. To truly go through Tool evolve you have to start at the beginning. 😉
I’d love to hear you react to “Invincible” from their last album. It gives more perspective on Tool’s journey over the years and how aging catches up with all of us.
Also, if it makes you feel any better, Taylor, Maynard has many tattoos. 😋
Yeah I love the way he describes how the armor and shield is getting heavier as he gets older and the "struggle to remain consequential."
Tool Army🌀🌀🌀🌀

A perfect circle- Judith
Tool -10,000 days pt2
100%
I love how he goes after the cult!
If you're interested in more like this Noe's ark / flood thematic, there is two another songs:
Pantera - Floods (my favorite from this thematic and probably my favorite Pantera song because of the solos)
Five Finger Death Punch - Wash It All Away
Absolutely love these
My favourite song EVER and have been waiting for your take on it, as always not disappointed, your reactions always give me a perspective to songs I’ve listened to for YEARS I hadn’t considered! Love your work 🤘
This is great because this whole album is based off of Bill Hicks stand up comedy. Maynard loved bill hicks and he’s the one that came up with Arizona bay and washing California away and Maynard loved it.
He also has another version where he switches it to New York as well that he did live.
The last song on this album he even uses Bill hicks “guy on acid” bit for the intro haha
I was born and raised in the northern suburbs of Los Angeles. This song hits hard for those of us to lived through that nightmare S-hole of a city. It's been my experience that most people who grew up in LA mostly hate the city.
Probably their best song, and they know it. They played this as the encore for 3 of the 5 times I've seen them live. :)
Push It is my favorite Tool song and they revisited it Live on the Salaval album with a different rendition of it. I would love to see and hear you reaction to either or both. Love your perspective 🙂
It’s your favourite song but you don’t know that it’s not Push It? It’s one word. Pushit!
@@TubeSteve420 Have a great day Steve!
I love this song. It was the first song I learned on guitar, so it will always have a special place in my heart.
You would really enjoy the RUSH rock song "Animate" - it's also about Carl Jung's theory of the Anima feminine energy in all men in every man - the masculine and feminine energies - Neil the drummer sadly passed away but this was one of his favorite lyrics he wrote with RUSH - he talks about anima and animus as Counterpart energies within every man - it's very well written lyrics and the same idea in an indirect way as this Tool song as far as Carl Jung's work - it's called "Animate" by RUSH
congrats at 100k, couldn't think of a better song to put you over the line!
I worked in food service in Los Angeles for four years, I FEEL and relate to the lyrics of the song SO much.
Newly subbed here, been loving the Tool interpretations, peeling back and revealing new layers to songs I’ve known for years.
For 100K subs, you should give us a video tour of your place. I see so many comments about your desk and your art on the wall. Give us a (selective) view into you and what makes home your happy place. No matter what you do, never stop dancing. Thank you for everything!
The Patient is very near and dear to my heart. I think it's a good one to do at some point.
Ok ok I subscribed. You’re lucky you’re so charming, and insightful, and funny, and smart, and cute.
This song was my intro to Tool a million yrs ago.. still gives me chills. Keep reacting to Tool and I’ll keep clicking.
8:17 - I always felt like this was the darkest part of the song, ie. when he's singing about Los Angeles being destroyed, the desire to see rain and title waves, and it sounds like a Neutrogena commercial. It's the juxtaposition.
You need to go see a Tool concert, it`s awesome!
Still to this day, one of my all time favorite Tool songs! “I wanna watch it all go down, Mother wash it all away.” Great reaction!
For the essential Tool experience start at track 1 and let it play. For context on Tool I'd say; Opiate, 4°, H., the Patient, Lateralus ((probably their most important song), Wings for Marie part 1&2, Right in Two, Fear Inoculum and Descending
Pushit, Lateralus, or H all three are amazing songs. I love your videos, keep doing what you are doing!
pushit is a must listen
This is my song and mantra when chronic pain gets really bad
Wash away that eternal agony and learn to swim through it
Subbed for TOOL!
EDIT: Oh no! She's watching the video 🤦♂️
YAY! thank you!
what's wrong with the video? (not a die-hard tool fan)
@@Patterner it's censored
@@igornaimoli7321 so it wont get de-monetized?
@Patterner Many of TOOL's videos are confusing and seemingly have nothing to do with the song. Reactors are frequently distracted with watching, and they miss the beauty or importance of the song.
That being said. They are visually stunning. So you should watch at some point. Also, most of them were done completely or at least produced by Adam Jones, the guitarist. He used to work in special effects.
Awesome reaction! Love it! Been saying for a while you MUST do the Salival version of Pushit! Those lyrics are a therapists Disneyland. Btw when I saw Tool love for the first time in 1996 Maynard called this a “happy” song. And these Friday afternoon Tool reactions are the perfect start to a weekend!!’ Thanks!!!
Reflection is my personal favorite.
You're awesome to be honest I watch your videos for the Mental Health advice that you talk about. I'm Retired Marine Corps Recon and after 2 Deployments in Iraq and 3 in Afghanistan my Mental Health is absolutely horrible. I've been diagnosed with Severe PTSD Treatment Resistant Depression TBI and Substance Abuse Disorder. I get my Mental Health from the VA but I would love to talk to you I don't know if it's because of the similar taste in music but I truly feel like I can trust telling everything.
Also, on the must listen, Lateralus is up there. It's such a deep song, and despite Maynard claiming it's an accident, it follows the fibonacci sequence in its syllables. :)
This is my all-time favorite tool song
If you want to keep the TOOL going I recommend Push It and Third Eye from the Salival album versions. Both my by far most favorite songs and versions of those songs ever! Been a TOOL fan for like 30 years lol. Keep up the great vids and congrats on 100k!
This whole album is just an absolute JOURNEY! Also fun fact: There are not one or two but TEN Tool songs that are longer than this video. Also another fun fact: let's get to 100k yall!
The stank face while rocking out is pure gold. Keep living your best life. 🤘
For me this applies to any place that happens to be overrun by self-absorbed, neurotic, materialistic humans... so like most of the planet. Really can't wait for 'Mom' to come, and realign society's priorities.
Congrats on 100k!
Congrats on 100k !!!
Wife and I strongly feel this song
The guitarrist was an phisical effect specialist and did some of their music videos ;)
Laterals, Right in Two, 7empest, 46&2, Jambi, Eulogy, The Patient, Fear Inoculum, Wings For Marie Pt 1 and 2, Third Eye…. So basically all of them! 😊
Oh, it was a comedy special, but Hicks meant every single word.
TOOL🌀🌀🌀🌀
I hate that you are still under 100K... It's legitimately sad, given how many of us need a channel like this!
Tool songs... _"INTERMISSION"_ played through into the next song _"Jimmy"_ (only listening to Jimmy, would be a crime!!)
My 10 year old daughter 🥰 learned to play INTERMISSION on the piano for her Christmas recital and to this day JIMMY is still her favorite ❤ song.
But to watch the 5 or 6 parents heads POP UP and start looking around like WTF 😮 was hilarious 😂
@@user-sv8oj8nk8z If you happen to have that filmed, you GOTTA upload it! (the recital, that is; the select few recognizing the song _IS_ damn funny though!)
You're the first person I've ever seen confused by hate for LA 😂
I always looked at "learn to swim" as move forward, educate yourself, do better for yourself, stop being drawn into materialism and pay attention to what matters.
This my second favorite tool song, right behind Sober 🤘🤘🤘
My first introduction to Tool was this song ❤
Ohhh!! Congrats!! Its an AMAZING band, believe me!!😉
Forty six & 2, and Lateralus are for me- the best understanding of who & what Tool is about
Love this girl , you’re so awesome!
Leave it to you to point out the LA stuff. I always thought it was a metaphor! HA! In my own life i left a relationship that was super toxic and flushed it all way. I left everything and started a journey that was super hard but helped me step through my shadow and learn to swim in a world i barely knew. It was extremely hard for me because i had to recognize the trauma i caused them and know i wasn't entirely a victim. My relationship mirrored my parents...imagine that! My parents taught me exactly how to be emotionally abusive. ugh. I spend most of my days promising myself i won't be that again. It's still a process but i feel confident i'm swimming. Love your videos and congrats on 100k!
I hear the words "learn to swim" on my back window. Taken notes
"10,000 Days/Wings for Marie" Actually two songs, but you really need to listen to them together. It's Maynard dealing with his mother's death through music. If you aren't crying, you either aren't listening to the song or you have no soul.
Maybe not just understanding Tool but understanding Maynard and his own healing and grieving process about his mother:
Judith by A Perfect Circle
The Patient by Tool
Wings For Marie parts 1 & 2 by Tool (cry every time I listen as I relate)
And (this one I add as I can see it in the same vein) Autumn by Puscifer
I’m positive I missed some but that was off the top of my head.
Maynard was a friend to the brilliant comedian Bill Hicks (RIP). You can even see pictures of Hicks in the album notes! Hicks' 'Arizon Bay' album was very influential in the creation of this song and this era of Tool as a whole.
such a good song and reaction, she is soooo pretty
CAN YOU PLS DO Therapist Reacts To This Is America
It's actually, "i can't imagine why you wouldn't welcome any change my friend" it's not just about waking up, he's in total disbelief that people aren't seeing the bs that surrounds our daily lives and ready, like he is, for something catastrophic even to just come liberate them into an existence that's real and force ourselves to adapt and focus our lives on things that actually matter, like not drowning, instead of stressing ourselves out over useless, superficial nonsense like being rich, beautiful and up on the latest trends. Maynard is an extremely deep well and often seems frustrated about how shallow, fake and superficial the rest of humanity happily remains while he's busting at the seams just dying to reach his full potential in the universe. I'm glad you're diving head first down this deep well, Tool's music, and actually Maynard's other projects, have changed a lot of people's lives by just being deep enough to force us to look at ourselves and realize we too have untapped potential to be so much more than just sheep that eat, sleep and consume until we die. Of course there are still some that choose not to venture beyond the false security of being in the herd, and most of those people gravitate to LA, because of glitter, fame and other shiny, useless objects. 😂
Don't know if it's been brought up before, I didn't see it when I searched but the song "H" on Aenima would be so good to hear. I'm sure you'd enjoy dissecting that one.
Wings for Marie is kind of a must. Also Right in Two
The song title, which is also the album title, is a portmanteau between enema and anima.
you are adorable.
your facial reaction to the intro was hilarious , HAHAHAHA
I love your reactions
I would like to recommend, The Warning, a hard rock band of three sisters from Mexico. Check out the song Animosity, live at Teatro Metropolitan. The song is about hating and not letting go of that feeling, the lyrics are great, “If karma doesn’t hate you then I will.”
In my life, I relate with l.a. being connected with entertainment. Flush it way so she can put back the way it ought to be.
The brilliance in all TOOL songs from a lyrical perspective is that they are meant to be used as a TOOL and interpreted by the listener to fit into your own narrative and grow.
This is why their music never ages and only gets better and more sophisticated over the year, because we “the lister” gets more educated and sophisticated “if we chose to do so” 😂.
IMO - No other song by TOOL say this better than Flood!!!
Manard lives a couple miles from me. He has the best restaurants and wines. He's a quiet celebrity here
wings for mary pt 2 makes me cry like a baby everytime
You HAVE to do Bottom by Tool I think it would be one of you best Tool videos by far.
Please react to death blooms by mudvayne.
It's one of my favorite songs and it has some very sad subject matter, therapy warranting I'd say
That whole album kicks ass. Mudvayne and Slipknot were the bands that got me into metal.
Popular monster by falling in reverse
beautiful massage in the end 👏
Im partial to Invincible off their most recent album. Whenever im feeling down or beaten that is a go to for me
You need the Maynard's Mother Journey. Jimmy, Judith and Orestes (A Perfect Circle), Wings for Marie and 10,000 Days (Wings part II.). Do that, understand Maynard, understand Tool.
