Therapist reacts to Parabola by Tool

- čas přidán 3. 07. 2024
- Therapist analyzes the lyrics of Parabola by Tool to talk about how when we are in pain it's easy to hyper fixate on our pain experience and it can be difficult to zoom out to the reality of the human experience, which is that we are so lucky to be alive during this time. This song provides us with the ability to zoom out and that's a gift.

Me too
Same!
I agree
To sit in the past is pain. To sit in the future is anxiety.
To sit in the present is a holy experience.
All this pain (& anxiety) is in an illusion.
Be present, be grateful, hold on to this feeling, stay inside, let it be a reminder of our fleeting time here.
✌️❤️
One of the best lyrics in all of music 💯🔥
We are eternal
All this pain is an illusion
💛
So close to being true...
"recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate the chance to be alive and breathing"
My life mantra
"Choosing to be here."
I absolutely love this line.
I've said it elsewhere, but this shout be suicide hotline hold music (not that that should be a thing).
I got goosebumps watching you get goosebumps as Parabol transitioned into Parabola.
Got goosebumps from reading this comment
Agree, the other moment is when MJK screams ALIVE!!!!
Saw one reaction where they paused it right when it was about to transition. I was like 😭
@@devilbobI am the goosebumps on your comment.
It's such a great feeling watching people experience it for the first time. Her reaction says it all.
One of the most satisfying drops in all music.
It's damn good, no denying, but for *me...*
Ænema's _Intermission_ into _Jimmy_ still reigns supreme! ☺️
_EDIT: Just to clarify... I'm not trying to imply my example is better than, or that my opinion is right. I only mention it for anyone who hasn't heard the transition from "Intermission" into "Jimmy", so they can check it out as well._ ♥️
Agreed! 🌀
@@DUKE_of_RAMBLEmaybe that satisfies you more because intermission and jimmy are the same song? intermission is just jimmy sped up and played more up beat and campy on an organ.
@@antichristian74 ... I just went to listen to it again, and holy shit 😳 you're *_right!!_* 🤯
Dunno how I never noticed that after all these decades... 🤦♂️
I feel like such a... well, a _tool..._ lmao
On the album, it’s two songs. The slow lead in is Parabol, and that big drop is the transition into Parabola. I still get goosebumps more than 20 years after I first heard it.
Read this comment before the song started and that's when I realized both were listened to... I knew there'd be a comment based on the vid title, lol. Thanks. *relieved*
When I lived in Denver, I used this album to time my drive to work. I would always make it to my parking space in the middle of Lateralus. But my favorite part of that drive was the part of this song when Maynard screams "ALIIIIIVE, I." This was when I'd come over a hill and the Continental Divide would seem to rise up from the horizon. It always made my morning.
This song is SO good it's unreal.
Also shout-out to one of the few reaction channels of which I actually watch the whole videos and not just the sections with the song.
awww thanks for sticking around for the whole thing! glad you're here! - T
There's an oddly strange and wonderful sensation when you see someone else be moved by something that's moved you for so long.
Its odly calming and satisfying, yet extremely jealous 😂
Please do The Patient next!
Deep deep song man. Helps me get thru ruff times.
That's a good one! I hope she does it!
@@charlotterenee5151 yuppers. Have to be patient with life. "it can't rain all the time"
One of my favorites.
Second this. She needs to react to the Judith saga, starting with Jimmy.
Consider this.
"We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience."
I don't know where I heard that, but in my mind, it's tired tightly to this song.
1 Corinthians 15:53 KJV
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
That, to me, is what keeps me Sane. The fact my Astral being or whatever decided this, they decided to play this game. I can't win until I understand the reason.
Terrance McKenna if I'm not mistaken, another gift to thr world.
I think few people understand just how profound the ending part of the music video is
The “singularity” 🔥🌀
That's right, I've understood almost the whole video but in the end, I just don't get it
This song, its lyrics and its music video are all about the initiate system of the Golden Dawn Hermetic Order. Secret Fire; If you know the relationship between kundalini, kabbalah and alchemy, you can understand it a little. If you infer from this song that only the third eye is opened, you would be unfair.
blew my mind when you said it turned into a "perfect circle" considering that's another ridiculously awesome band that Maynard is in 🖤🖤🖤🖤
Holy Grapefruit Juice i clicked on this so damn fast!!!
There isn't a single Tool song that will not make you feel.
You can do their entire discography and find therapy in every single track, it's quite amazing how connected they make you.
Grapefruit juice, WHERE????
Clearly not on her shirt. 😎
I really like to start at the beginning, and work my way through their albums to just experience the growth. Both with the instruments and Maynards lyrics.
One of my favorite lyricist.
Up there with the best, in my opinion.
"there is always friction [between the physical body and the immortal soul] and that is a holy experience to sit in the friction" gave me chills
One of my favorite songs of theirs. Glad you did the video version, which includes both Parabol & Parabola, as sadly some people only review the single song, & they need to be listened to together. "This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality. Embrace this moment, remember: We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion." Words that can change your life if you allow them to.
Well said my friend 👊 Spiral Out 🤘
Pain is not forever. This experience has beauty even if it seems far away at times
One of the best bands all-time, please keep doing their songs!!!
I love TooL🔧they're the greatest band ever😊
Every time I click on a Parabola review I have major anxiety over whether it's Parabol/Parabola or just Parabola and immediately pause it and head to the comments to see.
This has been one of my biggest go-to songs. Whenever I need release something that has been weighing on me or falling up in my chest to the point that it feels like I'm drowning. I will put this song on in my truck at full volume and just let it rip. After you scream this at the top of your lungs, you are guaranteed to feel at least 50% better than you did when the song came on.
Absolutely 💯
As with every one of your reactions I've seen so far, your bodily movement reacts to the instrumentation, your facial expression reacts to the video, and your speech reacts to the lyrical content. I'm reacting the same way as I listen. Love it!
When that bass comes in during parabol. Goosebumps
My favorite Tool song. There is so much in these lyrics. It gives me goose bumps every time and I've heard it countless times. Maynard's ability to put into lyrics the poetry of life and the human condition is beautiful. As above so below, as within so without. We are the All, and the All is all.
Fun fact I read is that when Maynard screams "Alive" following a pause, that marks the exact middle of the song. The apex of the parabola. Thus, the build-up to that moment and then the wind down on to the end. Again, I read this somewhere researching this track. If I am wrong, please enlighten me so I don't spread misinformation.
Isn't this the one also where the time signature of the song follows the fibbinachi spiral thing?
@@blakeclem1217 Lateralus
Amazes me how Maynard just incorporates all these ideas in his lyrics.
@dylangolden30 I listened to lateralus on mushrooms the day it came out. I peaked during the song and it was mind-blowing. I had open eye visuals pulsating in time with the music.
No. That's Lateralus.
Wholeheartedly believe everything you said!! This is a magical song that never fails to lift my spirit!!
This song came to me followed by Lateralus at the sabe time that I was feeling depressed 😥 and the message that it transmits put me straight to the path of life 🥲 and everytime that feeling come back I sink again in these songs to help me get out. Nice reaction, you are doing great 😁
Loved this song from the first time I heard it many many years ago
After having watched this video i can say that this is the best reaction of 'Parabol(a) so far. Nice job!
The songs leading up to this track, The Grudge, Schism, et. al., are chaotic with varied time sigs. Parabol/a is essentially 4/4 and you can hear the band way more focused and united. And driving forward with purpose. They’re learning to live and appreciate the pain of being together… fully realized by Lateralus. 🌀
This song (and others) saved my life. ❤
my friend brought this album with us when we went to Thailand for a holiday. we flew on Sept. 11th 2001 and when we landed the world had changed. my first time hearing this was in the aftermath of that horrendous tragedy tripping balls on a beach on Ko Samui... still blows my mind 😎🤘
Respect & Peace ☘
Tool and their music are the gift. Beautiful music and profound messaging
its always a gift when you do a Tool reaction, it sprinkles new life to me.
when you said the 2nd song is a shift into realization of the place we were before (1st song) I was like, "first half have always been my favorite half though... wait a min, this makes a lot of sense" :aware:
Parabol/Parabola hits even more different once you hear it live..this review is going to be fun
saw them in STL back in '19....the drop and ALIVE..so awesome to hear it live
@@seanysean6183 that was the same tour where I saw it live first time in Cincinnati..exactly the ALIVE
@shashankadavi28 I was at Heritage also...in the cheap seats 😂
When I was in therapy I made this song my mantra to be mindfully aware of what is around me and what can be appreciated in the moment
Loved the squeal of delight!
I always find your interpretation of Tool’s songs very enlightening
I usually hate their official vids they sre abstract and bizarre to the point of distracting new listeners to the song from the actual lyrics and impact of the music. The best part of this video is the new spiritual ‘third eye’ body he transmutes to at the end. I love this song btw!!
I feel the same way. Their videos almost never match the lyrical content of their songs and it detracts from the music.
@@drkaeppelL
I love watching the pure excitement and joy on your face when the music kicks in.
I'm so jealous lol, I wish I could hear it for the first time again 😢
Oh this is going to be so good
Just want to say that therapy is done me a lot of good. I love and respect everything you are doing. And when I feel down I watch these videos just to see you dance. It's so enjoyable
Such a powerful song, thanks for the review.
Yessss...my favorite Tool song❤
Always loved tool
I love watching people discover Tool.
Welcome.
❤
Heart support has got a lot what Tool is about!
Bless you!
Proper needed this video today, thank you!!
This is the best breakdown, and the most satisfying reaction to the most uplifting song EVER! Watching your face bounce between revulsion and exhilaration around the transition really made my day. I have no doubt that this song has saved many lives.
This is the one I've been waiting for! 46&2 then this. Love your approach to listening to this band
It's not just about pain tho, it's a reminder that this existence is just a small blip of time and that we chose to have this experience... this WHOLE experience, the good, the bad, the pain, the pleasure the entire human experience.
Such a powerful song that has saved so many of us
I love that you’re doing these TOOL reaction videos. TooL is my all-time favorite band since the 90s and I have met the most amazing people in my life because of TOOL.
I highly recommend going to see Tool live.
i concur
Absolutely
I love her facial reactions are so priceless love her reviews and I love that she takes them seriously w/o being TOO serious. Ngl i remember the fist video she did that I saw i was like oh shes so sweet she's gona hate it but she loved it, seems like she became a fan as well as a possible distant friend ❤🎉
Love the visuals in this video . And the song as the whole is very validating .
Thanks Taylor! Your interpretations are so awesome! I love this song, especially the last part. There are some spiritual references, like the chacras and last but not least the unit between your own "soul" with million of other souls.
Love your reactions and analyses of tool! Always insightful and entertaining! Plus i like that polka dot dusty rhodes chair in the background haha🌑🌕
I had to hit the comments to make sure you did them both. Ive been burned before so THANK YOU, Im going to go watch now. 🌀♾️🌀
Great job getting the best recording that has Parabol and Parabola without a break 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Wow finally… thank you 🙏🏼
Love this SO much❤❤
one of the best tool reactions i've seen
Hey there pretty girl! Happy 4th to you! May you and yours have a lovely day and a great 4th weekend! 🎉😊
absolutely my favorite tool song so inspiring raw and real
AHHHH SHE SAID THE GIFT UNKNOWINGLY!! AWESOME! SUBBED.
It makes me happy seeing how into it you got
Super glad you knew to listen to Parabol and Parabola back to back well done.
I feel it's worth mentioning, that the actual Music Video for songs are often not the ideal choice, but *_not_* for the reason others have expressed before _(that the visuals may distract you)..._ It's because many times a music video will ADD things that the album version doesn't have, and are only there to improve the *video* experience.
In this case, the beginning of the video, the "low notes" Taylor mentions, aren't on the album.
A better example is Dirty Vegas' _"Day Go By"_ video, where the actors have actual dialog - though some of which is muted and delivered through subtitles, so definitely "distracting" as well - which I don't think provides any context that wasn't already sufficiently conveyed by the lyrics.
[/my 2¢]
Less a critique, more of a "by the way..." 😊
_Regardless_ of the version used, you still provide us with very interesting and meaningful insights, and *THAT* is what's important! ♥️
God , your reaction is hiw i feel every time. Who ever your partner is , is blessed to be with your good soul ❤️🔥❤️. You good peeps
Thank you for sharing your insight into this holy gift
Love this reaction!! And love the tat😉
As someone who's been through it all, having a privileged life and yet seem to be constantly disappointed.. this sort of stuff made me really realise what this all means. We choose to be here. We CHOSE to come here. We must not leave before we learn our lessons. Ending it all or giving up will just mean we come back and do it all over again. If the eternal is real and we chose to come here, there must be a reason. Maybe that reason is figuring out the reason for love. Maybe the big one person that we all are isn't as exciting as this life.
in 2018 i experienced that at the end, it is the most amazing thing one can experience in their life.
It's so awesome hearing a therapist's perspective on, well, ANY of Tool's songs. Absolutely loving these! Parabol + Parabola is one of my favorites from them.
I'd be super interested to hear your take on three songs in particular, which I'm sure have been mentioned. They're "Judith", by A Perfect Circle, which is one of Maynard's (the vocalist of Tool) other bands, and then Wings for Marie and 10,000 Days, which are both back-to-back tracks on Tool's 10,000 Days album. The three songs deal with Maynard's mother, her health issues, her faith, and Maynard coming to terms with the different stages of her illness, struggles, and ultimately her death. Hearing the perspective of someone in the mental health field would be absolutely fascinating!
Thank you for what you are doing. I love it
Great analysis. Thanks for the reminder. 😊
i needed this today thanks.
We are the writer, actor and audience of our own play. It may take lifetimes to reach that realization. Thank you for helping those of us who need reminding of that. Have you done Pneuma yet? New subscriber.
I love that perspective (the gift)
I see Tool i click! simple but beautiful
This is my favorite Tool song.
Saw them play it live in Berlin in 2019. Haven't cried like that in a long time.
➡Celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing 🖤🖤🖤
Tool and Rammstein are me top 2 favorite bands, and you reacted to both! That's sick!
You are fun and incredible. Keep going! :)
I hope Taylor Palmby the GOAT next Tool songs are "Pushit" or "Aenima" Aenima especially if she live in LA or Cali. Hard to believe that song is 30 years old and how revelant it is today with humans and society.
I got to see Tool in 2009 in Las Cruces, NM.....such a great show!!!
been waitin on this one
I knew a guy who had been unable to walk for most of his life along with other health issues I was unaware of. He died in his 20s. This was his favourite song and I think about him every time I hear it. I hadn't noticed how poignant the lyrics were until after he was gone.
Damn...I've been binging your videos over the past few days, digging the Tool rabbithole. THIS is the one I was waiting for.
This song changed my entire perspective on life for the better.
This song (Tool in general really) and Alan Watts changed my perspective of existence. Helping me heal from my past.
Alan Watts is/was a Legend - such an awesomely smooth voice to listen to too
Wait... How have you yet to do the Wings For Marie, 10,000 Days journey yet? This blows my mind.
You're the best. Never change.
Greatest band ever, prove me wrong
Can't do it 🌀🤘
Love your room aesthetic ❤
I like your comment, "Sit in the friction". Maynard said in a motivational speech that the music and lyrics are like a cello. The wood is bent to impossible ends without breaking and when you add the strings is where the beauty lies. Had you not stressed it, you'd not get the beauty. Just thinking along with you. Haha
Early congrats on 💯k subs🤘🤪🤘
Looking forward to you listening Wings for Marie pt.1 & pt.2. Its a powerful ode to his mother and the grief of letting her go.
Gotta react to pushit it. I gotta hear your perspective on it. It would fascinate me
I really enjoyed this Ty
