Yep, that's the legendary Marko Hietala. He just rips out a G5 with that kind of power and blows you away. Most men can't hit a G5 in falsetto and he screams it with enough power to peel the paint off the walls.
Such a fantastic version of this song. So now you've heard Tarja Turunen. She was Nightwish's female lead singer from their start in 1996 until this show in 2005. She sang mostly in an operatic style, which fit their songs very well. For quite some time prior to this show, there had been ongoing issues betweenTarja (and her husband/manager) and the band. She was dismissed right after the show. In 2007 Anette Olzon (from Sweden) became the lead femal vocalist. She gave the songs a more poppy sound. Anette had a hard time dealing with the long world tours Nightwish used to do and that starting causing friction. This came to a boiling point during their US tour in 2012 and they parted ways right there and then. The band asked Floor, whom they had been friends with for a long time, to finish the tour with them. She did and never left.

By issues you mean his being in love with Tarja who is still happily married to her husband at the time. Annette was pregnant and went into labour. Had to quit the tour midway through, Floor a freind then & now to Tarja already experienced as a frontwoman to a band was asked and agreed to help them finish the tour. She refused however to ever sing bye bye beautiful. Aimed as it was at Tarja. Tour went well. The band and Floor came to terms and a year later she joined the band officially.
The concert was the homecoming performance of a world tour, in Helsinki October of 2005 as they finished promoting their 5th album Once. The tour was called Once upon a tour. The band had decided to fire Tarja. They did not even.tell her to her face after the concert. Just gave her a sealed letter with instructions to open it in the morning .meanwhile they published a copy online that night. This is what divides the fan base. People taking one side or the other in favour of who was right or wrong. Not doing that. Just background info. They were at the top of their game that night. It shows. Also Tarja had a cold that night.
Since then she did record, produce and relesse her solo albums. To tremondous success. Much acclaim and love. She is also a mother, a writer of a new Auto biography Singing in my blood. She is classically trained and has in fact sung opera. ( this is not that BTW). She has been a solo artist since 2007. Watching her solo work is amazing. So is the early Nightwish ERS. There is an earlier live concert in 2001/2 which has beautiful performances. Recorded in high quality. If you want to hear what she can do at the top of her range, Woodstock Poland concert ( now called masters of rock) 2016, Muse cover of Supremacy is a must. Her and Marko have made up and are friends again. They knew eachother in childhood back in Finland.

First, by issues I did NOT mean anything like Tuomas supposedly being in love with Tarja. That's an internet story and I don't believe that was the case.
Also, Anette Olzon was pregnant during the US tour, yes, but she was not going into labour at that time.
Last, Marko grew up in a different area in Finland and is over 10 years older than Tarja, so they don't know eachother from childhood years.

I like that you know the lyrics to phantom of the opera. I'm a man and it's refreshing to see a another man know the lyrics to the musical.

Great Tarja, Marco kills it every time i listen to this song...Marco one of the very best singer in metal/rock.
He is one of the kindest people, but he has so much fun playing the monster.

He also has a solo project album "Pyre of the Black Heart" and a collaboration project The Northern Kings (they do covers). He's also a frequent guest on Delain"s albums. Don't know if Mr. Webber has ever head this, but I can imagine if he has, he must be proud. Marco (I hope I'm not alone thinking of him the soloist in this) does an amazing performance. Tarja as Christine is suitably sassy for a Nightwish rendition, and she has a very very good and schooled voice.

This is actually one of my favorite ones as well. Tho I love all of the productions of this and the movie adaptions as well as the newer one with Butler a lot of ppl didn't like but I quite enjoyed it. If you like a more 'rock' Phantom, check out that movie, you'll enjoy it.

Henk Porte actually played the Phantom in the Netherlands, so he is the real deal from the stage. Floor just nails it. Floor and Henk have recently been singing together in shows.

And since you like Phantom so much, look up Floor's version of it. It wasn't done with Nightwish, rather a duet with Henk Poort (the original singer in the Netherlands production of Phantom). She brings it to yet another level.
If you love this check out Iced Earth - Phantom Opera Ghost. You won't find a live video of it but it's well worth the listen if you love Phantom of the Opera as I do. It's the same take but from a different perspective as the Broadway show. Pretty epic for Metal.

Annette was the anti Tarja but in the End NW is too good a live band not to have greatness at vocals, enter Floor. You’ve only scratched the surface. Enjoy the journey, because you get to her the songs for the first time once.
Welcome to the first era of Nightwish! 😁 Tarja, the woman you just heard, is the first vocalist and one of the founding members of the group, wich was born in 1996. Of the band's 9 studio albums, 5 were recorded with her, 2 with Anette and 2 with Floor, the current singer. Most of the songs people suggest in Floor's voice were not originally recorded by her, so it would be nice if in addition to the newer versions you also heard the originals. Each song sounds completely different depending on who is singing. Nightwish initially proposed to have a lyrical singer as a vocalist. That was the identity and the big difference of the band in the past, however, from the second vocalist that changed. The band also went through other member changes. Including, Marko himself is not the original bass player. He joined the band from the fourth album, Century Child. Tarja left the band in 2005, before google buys CZcams. The performance you just watched is from the "End of an era" dvd ( czcams.com/play/PLexzLA11Cst25qKz-jqq513Dr02I2jG4q.html ).Most of the live performances from her time were posted by fans. This entire DVD is incredible. A curiosity about this show is that Tarja hardly did it. She was sick that day and recorded this show on medication. You can usually find good videos with Tarja on the "Nightwish Arena" channel. As for Anette, I advise you to always listen to the studio versions of her. Live videos are not usually very good with Anette, but she has a very beautiful voice. Floor joined Nightwish in 2012 as a temporary member and became permanent in 2013. It is easy to find good live performances with her. Many of these videos were posted by the band itself. In general the Nightwish live performances are magical, but the studio versions are also excellent. In addition, there are some iconic songs that you will not find live version or, when you do, the quality of the recording is terrible. An example of this is "Beauty of the beast" (czcams.com/video/lwerko8X_aU/video.html). This is a song from "Century Child" album. So far only Tarja has sung it. There is a live version, but the quality of the existing videos is very bad, even in the remastered ones. This can ruin your first experience. Because of that, I strongly suggest the studio version as the first experience. If you like to enjoy the lyrics of the songs, "Beauty of the beast" has a romantic gothic style. Nightwish had a different style in Tarja's time. Originally the band was a mix of Gothic metal, power metal, symphonic music and folk music. From Anette on, the influences of power metal and gothic metal are almost nonexistent. It is important not to confuse "Beauty OF the beast" with "Beauty AND the beast". Nightwish has these two songs. In case you want to know, there is a good live version of "Beauty AND the beast" recorded on the dvd "From wishes to eternity" (czcams.com/video/v8vA260-AOU/video.html). This is the band's first DVD. It was recorded in 2000 and released in 2001, before Marko joined the group. It is a much simpler DVD than the ones Nightwish makes today, but it is excellent. At the beginning of their career the band did not have many financial or technical resources. This is a 21-year-old recording. At the time the group was on their third album, "Wishmaster", and they had done their first world tour. Tarja has a solo career with many iconic performances and partnerships. I would like to suggest "Victim of ritual", a live performance recorded at Woodstock in 2016 (czcams.com/video/GxDnhbGTJSs/video.html). If you prefer something quieter, I suggest the song "The Living End", a live performance recorded in a church in Wacken. In this performance, Tarja is accompanied only by a piano, a violin and a cello. It's beautiful. There is a video of this performance on Wacken TV channel. I agree with Maria Melakou search Floor and Henk singing Phantom that should bring it up for you. An astoundingly great performance and when I say 'performance I mean just that. Floor is a consummate performer, in addition to her incredible vocals.
It is strange, but until she asked to be included on the Dutch singing show Beste Zangers(Best Singers), Dutch Symphonic Metal singer Floor Jansen was little known in her home country. Her duet with Dutch Tenor Henk Port(top Phantom performer) changed that very quickly.
Funny that Floor had known Henk playing the Phantom since she was a young teen and has been a 'fangirl' ever since but he didn't know who she was until she sang the German folk song Vilja Lied to Henk for her first Zangers performance(it was his mother's favorite song). Another song you should watch but I warn you, she sings it in German.
Lots of recommendations above but “Master Passion Greed” has been my favorite lately. Very dark, very heavy, very angry Nightwish with Marco vocals.

I love Floor, but I have been listening to Nightwish since their inception and I grew up with Tarja. Until their parting, practically every song was written by Tuomas under Tarja's voice. I am glad that I can listen to the same songs in the Floor version, because her voice is also knocking down. I suggest you listen to Tarja for example: Swanheart (From Wishes to Eternity DVD) Thanks for your reaction.
Please react to Ghost Love Score, Wishmaster and Slaying the dreamer from the same end of an era concert and End of all hope from Summer Breeze festival 2002. You should also check Tarja on her solo career with Supremacy (Muse cover) and Victim of ritual from Woodstock 2016. She is fantastic.

If you thought this was fantastic then you should know that Tarja had the flu when she made that performance and it was the last song of the show. That's a testament to how good she is.
@@JoJoLewis Yep, from what I've heard she went off stage between songs to throw up and then came back with a smile and continued on. That's also why she gave her short "thank you" and then you see her run off stage at the end of the song insted of spending more time with the audience.

Funny, "the other singer I've been told about", usual for the "nightwish army" to ignore Anette altogether again. Tarja was the first singer, Anette 2nd and Floor 3rd. They all have their strengths and weaknesses even with all the downplaying "nightwish army" does against Anette.

This version of Phantom of the Opera featuring Tarja Turunen, Nightwish's original vocalist, is easily one of my favorite Nightwish performances. I do though need to recommend that you check out the following video of Nightwish's current vocalist, Floor Jansen, performing a more operatic rendition of Phantom of the Opera along with a Dutch opera singer, Henk Poort. This is not a Nightwish performance and was on a Dutch television show called Beste Zangers in 2019 that Floor participated in. Definitely worth your time to check it out 🤘

How on earth this could be a worng video? :) This is The One.
I understand that some people are so hardcore Floor Jansen fans that they do not accept anyone else, specially Tarja Turunen who, after all, has the voice and looks and is one of the founder members of Nightwish. If I sound negative it is just because of that "wrong video". One can suggest whatever but, IMO, Jansen's version of this song is not even a very good one - it lacks the effortlessness.

Right video! In "Beste zangers 2019" that house band made a great little tribute to Nightwish.One can't really compare them.The house band doesn't have the power that Nightwish brings.If a person wants to react to Nightwish's version, this is exactly the right version.There are no other versions besides this. Clearly hollandduck79 isn't a Nightwish fan but rather Floor fanatic.Whining "wrong video" in a Nightwish reaction is fanatics specialty.
Tarja is pure perfection in this version I really love them both her and Floor my two goddesses of metal 🤘🏼 for reference you might wanna hear Floor’s version she did for a dutch show called beste zangers along Henk Poort here

Yes. Her woice is perfact in thees. When she sings "beware the Fandom of the Oprah", I get goosebumps each time. And yes. I am making slight fun of her not being able to sing proper English.
Please watch “the fantom of the opera” version of Floor Jansen and Henk Poort at “beste zangers”. You see Floors vocal range combined with a original “Phantom” in a show were singers honor outer singers. Beautiful serie.

Marco does nail this version of the Phantom. If you're curious on the show "BESTE ZANGERS" Floor and Hank Poort (who did play the Phantom) cover it really well. And I would like to say I prefer Floor. Thanks again for the great reaction. 👍
