Floor and Tarja are indeed friends. They did a youtube live stream together a couple of months ago.
From a Metal Hammer interview with Floor:
"In November 2013, at the Metal Female Voices festival in Belgium, she and Tarja duetted together on a cover of 80s guitar hero Gary Moore’s Over The Hills And Far Away (which was covered by Nightwish in 2001). At the end of 2017, the pair teamed up again for a version of Spanish-language Xmas song Feliz Navidad. She points out that the two of them always got on, even after Tarja was fired from the band in 2005. Do they avoid talking about certain subjects whenever they meet?
“No,” she says after a pause.
Do you talk about your individual experiences in Nightwish?
“Yes, actually, we do. But what I don’t want is any of their stuff to come into it. What she and the guys had, and what happened, is between them, and not with me. I’ll leave it at that.”
From a Tarja 2019 interview: "Tarja: "I’ve shared the stage with Floor (Jansen) and have been inviting her to my shows. I care for her and love her, and only wish her the best. There is no competition between singers like us. We are all living in a man’s world, sort of. So each of us being out there, doing our own thing, can only be a good thing. It’s a sisterhood that is beautiful."

I read that when Nightwish asked Floor to be permanent, she immediately called Tarja and asked for her approval. Tarja told her she'd be a great fit for Nightwish. So they are still good friends and Nightwish has Floor.
At some point there was a rumor, that there were some fans debating on Floor's FB or IG page that who is better singer, Tarja or Floor, and then Tarja commented "Floor ❤️ ". I can't tell if that is actually true, but if it is, it is funny as hell. For me it's both. I really love Floor and I think she is the most versatile singer ever, but I also love and miss old Nightwish with Tarja, and I think her operatic sound is better than Floor's. In this song it's not even close call, Nightwish wins by a clear margin in every possible way I can think.

And yes, Tarja is a bonafide opera soprano and did do opera gigs when she was with Nightwish. Tarja and Floor are friends and have sang together a few times. Also after the "firing" Tarja has performed a few times with Marco. Tarja is doing her solo career and pretty much puts out an album almost every year.

You are right you should not compare the singers. I was introduced to Nightwish when Floor was singer and have listened to all older songs and I enjoy NW in all forms. In fact like all 3 singers they each bring something to the table. Of course Tarja and Floor are both incredible singers and Anette did not have the range of the other 2 but still has her moments. Love seeing your enthusiasm about NW. Keep up reactions to this fantastic group ❤️🤘🇦🇺
It's okay. Say it. This is better than Floor and Henks duet....They were amazing but this is the best version of Phantom that anyone is ever going to hear.
The version nightwish a lot has of sound effects sound aggressive, it's metal. And in the Beste Zangers Pop-music version there are less musical instrumental sound effects, it sounds quieter, calmer and more melodic.Floor voice sounded perfect and more melodic, softer than Tyra's. If someone wants to listen to the metal version, they will listen to the version with Tara, and if someone wants a calm melodic version, it will be the version with Floor.

Both Phantom performances are great - Marko/Tarja and Henk/Floor. The reason why I prefer this one is the fact that it was in the middle of a concert and not in a studio kind of environment as in Bester Zangers. This had the menacing atmosphere that the song requires. Also Tarja could not sing in the rehearsals earlier that day because of throat infection and Marko was also under the whether.
I just love the sheer intensity of this performance; in the last 30 seconds where Tarja's doing her coloratura runs, the drums are galloping and the guitars change chords that match what she's doing *perfectly*.
Tarja and Floor are friends. When Floor was asked to join Nightwish Floor rang Tarja to ask her if it would be OK with Tarja. Tarja said that enough time had gone by and that it wouldn't be a problem. As @Guitar noodle said they had an instagram chat for about an hour on Dec 8 2020. You can find that on Tarja's CZcams page Tarja Turunen.
Tarja's operatic style vocals fit this song so well. Marko has surprised many opera singer/vocal coach reactors as The Phantom.
Yes Jack Sparrow. There are pics comparing Jack Sparrow and Tuomas on the internet. They look a lot like each other. Just the other day I saw a Tuomas female fan made video on YT asking which one is hotter Johnny Depp or Tuomas. For some reason, lol, Tuomas won.

I love all the different era's of Nightwish with each of their singers. And there is no need to compare them. Tarja, Anette and Floor are all amazing singers and brought their own style and vibe to Nightwish. They are all equally great.

To me, Tarja is one of the best singers there is. I love her voice, the warmth, the power. If you listen to her classical performances, you`ll here her sing in brighter soprano tone. It`s great, but to my ears this warm, round sound is absolutely gorgeous.
Please react to her solo stuff, like Supremacy (Muse cover) from Woodstock 2016 and Oasis (she wrote it, performs playing the piano) from Argentina 2012. Stay safe.
Nightwish was the perfect band for me with Tarja, and I felt really sad when she left. It was difficult for me to get used to Annete, but when I finally did, Floor was on stage...hahahaha.
Nightwish was great with Tarja. With Floor, it became out of this world.
The animosity was not between Tarja and Floor. The problems that left Tarja out of Nightwish were among Nightwish and Tarja (and her husband). Floor was a Nightwish follower, she had (and still has) huge respect for Tarja, so when Tuomas phoned her to sing with the band, Floor first called Tarja to ask her about it.
The animosity belongs to the fans that not understand that Nightwish is an experience.
This DVD, End of an era, is great. Completely enjoyable.

Both Tarja and Floor are elite singers. Pure greatness from both.
Tarja has the more true operatic voice, no question. She does opera better. However, Floor is more versatile and can do EVERYTHING - including operatic style. I also think Floor has more subtlety in her voice. But both are phenomenal.
It's not only Floor (dynamic power) or Tarja (classical operatic), also the phantoms Henk (baritone) and Marko (raw belting) as duo partners play an important role in this song. Both performances are complete different from start to end and difficult to compare. Both are also no in line with most of the musical versions. Therefore unique in their approach, and you can 't say this one is better than the other. Both are diamonds, only a question of taste I would say which one you prefer.

The Floor and Henk version was actually the same arrangement as this but mixed differently.
It's sad that Floor even had to try. She's the best thing to happen to Nighwish but she's no Tarja and Henk ain't Marco. A ton of other musicals to choose from. Glad they're all friends but that Phantom was gringeworthy. Beneath Floor's class.

Tarja and Floor have been friends for many years. When Floor was announced as the new singer, comments began to emerge about rivalry between the two. In response to this, Tarja invited Floor to sing together "Over the hills and far away" in order to demonstrate that the two are friends. Recently Tarja and Floor recorded a live together on Tarja's Instagram. If you want to know Tarja's solo career, I would like to recommend the song "Victim of ritual", a live performance recorded at Woodstock in 2016.

At this point in her career (my opinion) Tarja was kind of a "one trick pony." She showcased her Opera chops, which are very good, but that seemed to be all she did. In later recordings, Tarja seemed to have added to her vocal tool box, which is great.
Floor is kind of like the "Swiss Army Knife" of singers. She can mix genre's, techniques, and sounds around at any time, wherever she wants. Both woman are amazing.
Unfortunately for Annette, she got stuck in between these two power house singers. Any other time, or place she would have been a huge stand out. Again, just my opinion.

When someone asks you who the best Nightwish singer is you should always say Marko 😊 You have no idea yet how good he really is. He can sustain a string of notes 13 seconds long with perfect pitch. You were probably too entranced to notice the bass lines he was playing while he was singing this... If Floor is (one of) the queens of Nightwish and Tuomas is the poet then Marko is the soul of the band. You really, really need to do 'High Hopes' and 'The Islander'

@@TomTuffnuts That's okay. lol. I was a theatre major and even I only like very select musicals. 'Phantom of the Opera' is an amazing show so I think you'll like it. If you're brave enough to watch another one after that, I recommend 'Chicago'. One of my all-time favorites, but only appeals to people with a good sense of humor who like strange cult movies, is "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". It's not everyone's cup of tea, especially if you have any hang ups about sexuality. It's a wild ride and the music is all rock music so I think you'd at least love the soundtrack if nothing else. Ooh and also 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch' is also an amazing rock musical! Okay, I'll stop now. ;)

I've listened Nightwish over 20 years. I love Tarja. She's the original. But I also loved Anette and now I love Floor. They're all part of Nightwishes history. ❤

Tarja and Floor are friends no issues. By the time Floor joined NW, Tarja was long gone. Also they knew each other for very long time, since back when After Forever (Floor's band) and Nightwish met on tour. Floor was already aware and liked Nightwish and Tarja many years before joining. And Floor even consulted Tarja when Nightwish reached her.

keep up the high energy. We love it. Tarja was unique and special for her time in Nightwish. When Floor joined she did not want to attempt to copy or imitate Tarja. They are friends and respect each other immensely. Tarja is full opera and Floor only uses operatic styling from time to time. Floor loves to belt and do many different vocal colors. Sarah is correct. Where would you find another Tarja? Over the Hills and Far Away has poor sound quality. Remember the suffix gasm is only a reference to the skin orgasms (goosebumps) from these amazing vocalists. That is essentially what goosebumps or chills up the spine are! A physical reaction to an unexpected aural experience. A frisson!

This is the song that I first listened from them and I fell in love with Tarja. My fav era of nightwish is from angels fall first until century child. More people should react to their old era where they used to be a more power metal band. Many songs that are so underrated.

Don't know if anyone mentioned it before, but neither the Beste Zangers nor this performance are the same arrangement as the original in the musical. This arrangement you are seeing here is the exact arrangement Nightwish did in 2003, as they covered the song on their 2003 album "Century Child". Beste Zangers had this same arrangement.
As for Marko, Mr. Hietala said before that for his singing, he modeled his technique after a rather known singer, a Mr. Ronnie James Dio. So you will get a lot of Dio vibes from him when he sings. And keep also in mind that he almost completely lost his voice due to botched surgery on his vocal chords, leaving him without any falsetto range. He had to relearn how to sing completely, and rumor had it that at some point in his career, he had hired a vocal coach to help with his voice... some unknown lady named Floor Jansen!
If you want to see how wide his singing range is, you should react to either High Hopes (from this very same show), Master Passion Greed (Audio track only; Nightwish will NEVER play this live), then followed by The Islander, live at Tampere, then wrapped up with Ave Maria, as a duet with Floor. Yes, that same Ave Maria. You'll be very surprised at what he can do.
Actually, if you want to hear Floor doing Phantom of the Opera with a rockband there are several videos of her doing it with her previous band After Forever.
You should see the live of Anette's Scaretale. Other than that, I haven't seen a live from her that I like.

New guy on the block when it comes to Nightwish. This is pure magic in a bottle. Right people. Right time. Right arrangement. It's this group of people that created this masterpiece arrangement and it's simply the best I've ever heard.. and I've heard Phantom butchered by soooo many. To me it's not about who Flor is or comparing anything other than the piece and the live event. Haven't even heard the studio mix of this. Don't want to. This is the magic. If it were up to me, this would be on the official Phantom Soundtrack where it belongs. The definitive cut. They've rendered Andrew Loyd Weber unlistenable in 4 minutes. To me it's no different than Liliac covering 7 nation Army. In the aftermath, the original sounds like a demo tape. All due respect to Jack White.. they completely owned it.

Iam the Keyboarder of an German Nightwish coverband called Nightingale , in iam using the exact same setup as Tuomas in the Once Tour, it consists (from Keyboard player to keyboardplayer)
of an Korg N364 (upper Keyboard), Korg Triton Pro, and an Korg Karma all 61 keys, the N364 has the Big strings patch in it wich is concerining Tuomas the best chugging string sound ever made...

first off i knew Marco would surprise you second i love that hand off Tuomas does and last one of the reasons for Tarja leaving is that Diva like behavor that you picked up. she also had the flue or some other upper respitory illness so the fact that she can sing so well even when she is sick is amazing this was truely the End of an Era this is Tarja's last time on stage with Nightwish
