i know jimmy's said the longer vids tend not to do as well, but i dig em.
I didn't even notice it was 20 minutes.
i was laughing at your comment thinking, "lol, 20 minutes, no way". looked back at the time line and noticed it was indeed 20 minutes, blew my mind! i am not kidding when i say it felt like 5 minutes!
I especially like the drone fly-by footage. Nice work, as always, Jimmy.
So do I
i dont think that was a drone, i think that was him just walking around the table with a steady cam
That jointer though! *drool*
I know!
I hear the jointer is the new pink flamingo. :D
That thing must weight at least 800 to 1000 pounds!
My friend locally has the same one, and a whole shop of monster Oliver machines. They are all outstanding. Plus he has his own Ireland Sawmill, I play there ....a lot :)
Awesome!
Man!!! You must love this out in the fresh air, no vacuum noise, mask etc!!! What a shop!!!!!
I feel good after watching this. It's inspiring
Man, I think I just fell in love with that jointer. That thing is one beautiful beast. OK, just me?
tables like these are my favourite things ;)
I see what you did there.
iderpalot - Do you have a lot of favorite things? Or just a few?
prancing around in Lane Bryant blouses. tie little strings to the tails of mouses.
Laughing incontrollably while watching you hatchet away at a tree stump on a vintage South Bend while thinking about trolls orgasming to the sound of smooth jazz clarinettes ? ... I never thought that'd happen to me.
Thanks, Jimmy, you're my 4-yr old daughter's role model, but I love you too !
Keep on trucking ! (from France)
Great build, by the way, you the man. you inspire us all to go do the work...
THE THING THAT I LIKE ABOUT JIMMY DIRESTA WORK IS THAT HE,S NOT PRISSY ABOUT HIS SHOP OR WHAT BRANDS OF TOOLS HE USES . I,TS HIS SKILL THAT SUPPORTS IMAGINATION WHICH IS ULTIMATE TO ME . BEAUTIFUL TABLE MAN .
Man that jointer is some beautiful machine!
Another great build video. What's really impressive is the incredibly vast array of knowledge you have, after watching many videos over the years.
+Jimmy Joseph thank you !!
this looks so good i just had to subscribe, keep it up.
Finally! someone that chops off the high spots when they turn wood! see so many videos of folks struggling with high spots
I cannot imagine the amount of work that took...Just stunning...form a cow's ear to a silk purse.
i was like wtf noooo stahp, when he started to paint over the gorgeous woodgrain.
awesome build! gnarly turnings!! they came out great! wish the client didn't want them painted but it still looks amazing! Love the longer video, it actually went by very quickly. awesome table and vid! love the drone shot at the end!
There is nothing more appealing than a functional work of art. Jolly good show, chap!
man you are the da Vinci of the modern maker movement. Coltrane blasting in the shop, using ten different industrial disciplines on one solo project.
You're an inspiration, Jimmy.
A 20 minute DiResta video? *grabs popcorn and blanket*
Jimmy, could you please have a kid? You can call him Mini, so we have Mini DiResta projects starting out with wooden blocks or something.. You have got to secure the legacy and the future of CZcams ;)
As always enjoy your video's and a 20 minute one was a treat.
We have had a real treat today. Both Jimmy and Mattias both make furniture. Good day for watching woodworking
Those table legs are a few of my favourite things. I loved the wood grain on them.
3:25 "these are a few of my favuorite things"
..maybe John Coltrane
Yes it's Coltrane. If you change the settings to play the video at half speed, it ends up being slightly slower than the original album cut.
Seems like Jimmy was listening to Coltrane for the first part of the video.
and at 9:40
What do you mean "this" are a few? Shouldn't it be "these" are a few.
Did I miss the video where you aquired that GIANT planer? ;)
giant steps :)
Giant jointer, the little yellow one that is a planer.
Stunning work as always, myself and my 7yr old daughter have religiously watched every video for the past 2.5 years, it's our nightly routine. This is in our top 3. A very deserving accolade from a very astute 7yr old girl whom normally watches princesses.
Одно из лучших произведений! Это Великолепно! А работа мастера просто выше всяких похвал ))) Mr. Diresta you are the best!!!!!!! My applause! It is great pleasure to watch your work.
Awesome build, although I don't really get why you painted the feet white, it looked great with the natural texture.
Its a commission
Same here...
It was requested by the customer, read the description
Yep, anyway I was better in the wood
Derryl james Dang that hurt..
Muito bom o seu trabalho, nós aqui no Brasil amamos os seus vídeos, valeu !!!!!!
verdade eu adoro assistir os videos do Jimmy , mais ai eu preferia sem a pintura branca kkk o que acha
Vdd! Vídeos excelentes.
Great build! Nothing like feeling the piece at the end of the project and letting the build speak into the fingers! Looked like velvet. Great build!
Well done! The white legs are a nice contrast, and makes the top the focal point. Not to mention, you have to make the customer, or whom ever this was for happy.
what a sweet table. I personally wouldn't have painted those beautiful legs white; the grains in the Wood really stand out. jimmy just for the craic, make something out of a toothpick.
*has functional heavy pattern jointer in back yard
...uwielbiam przy kawie patrzeć na rękodzieła Diresta :) ...pomysły i technika wykonania ...mistrzostwo świata ...pozdrawiam
Log-turning while listening to Giant Steps at 7000 bpm! Cheers brother!
Bet he found the machine in the streets of New York
"The chief enemy of creativity is 'Good' sense"
Pablo Picasso
Love the "portable" Jointer you moved outside to use. Very good looking table.
Ahhhh! All is right in the world when there is a fresh Jimmy D video!
I must admit that every time you went slow mo on the lathe I totally thought the piece was going to fly off and do some crazy horrible horrific crap! lol Thank the good Lord it didnt! haha
1:47 wheels on the mower go round and round.. round and round....
I bet my sister would like to sit on that table and fart, making one of those very percussive, "ricochet off a wooden surface" farts she's famous for. Great job as always, Jimmy!
Dafuq? :)
me too thanks
Kind of like when it ricochets off your cheeks?
Hahahah
The only thing I think u are trying to do is to make your sister dumb I would say u are dumb
That antique planer is the bomb! Love it!
Great table. Beautiful wood. Looks stromg enough to park your truck on. But I can,'t belive you painted the pedistals . The wood was magnificent . Just my opinion. Keep on building. You amaze Me.
Thanks again Jimmy, love your vids. Also which planer works better? Or are you just showing off for us? ;-)
Thank you the one was for the face and other for thickness each has a job
+jimmydiresta Jimmy I know you get hundreds of requests but I'd love it if you would try your hand at a uds (ugly drum smoker) I'm not trying to blow smoke up your ass but with your skill and know how I'm sure you could knock it out the park, anyway all the best from a loyal Aussie follower.. 🇦🇺
Got it, thanks again!
i'm not sure, but i think jimmy is vegan
+blindeye2404 no he's not. on making it he talked about enjoying a good steak.
what a shame covering that nice wood in paint, still awesome job tho
I dont think they had any idea how beautiful the natural turned wood would look like when they requested the paint.
I had the same thought, but quality is quality! Id buy this over store furniture anyday of the week
The base looks like pine. I quite like the white.
Same thought!!!!! Fully agree!
DIRESTA said "I did need to use bondo to fill cracks and low spots in the log".
I doubt that Bondo with a stain looks very good whereas white paint looks fantastic; it is a decorator look.
Beautiful table, and that freaking jointer...holy hell...If people would hit "like" as soon as they see something they like, like that jointer...well....love the addition of the drone footage too.
C est bien la première fois que l'on ne voir pas de DI RESTA sur la production!
Mais vu la beauté des matériaux c est compréhensible =)
I love the design, but would have used clear coat on the legs of the table, just my 2 cents :D
Me too, that was great looking wood!
I thought so at first, but the idea of having white legs and frame is growing on me. It really makes the top stand out. The richness of the wood becomes the focus because it's the only thing with an interesting pattern.
3scape4rtist
Still think the wood grain on the burled wood looked amazing and since they are legs, it would actually add to the continuity of the entire table, they were amazing, white makes the top stand out but doesn't tie the piece together as a whole, but that's my personal taste, I guess...
jesus read the description
Max Richter
Regardless of whether or not it was requested, I stand by my personal opinion. Did you read my comment at all?
How long did this project take?
About 20:09 ;-)
that's what I was going to say....
Probably a few days worth of work in it, maybe a week? He does work pretty fast in these videos ;)
Excellent craftsmanship. I get so excited when I see anew Diresta video in my CZcams feed. I'd love to see more about that massive jointer.
Funny how there's so many comments on painting those legs. Yes, it was a commission. But I think everyone only found that out afterwards reading the details. I, like many when watching Jimmy starting to paint those legs immediately went, "Nooooooooo ... what are you doing?!!" Ha! Great job in any case. Thanks for the video.
Yo thats the first thing Diresta made and doesnt have his name on it. xD
beautiful table but why paint that beautiful wood??
I literally just spent my whole work day watching Diresta videos. I am unrepentant.
Talking about idiocy
That is the mother of all joiners at the beginning. Great build!
ИЗ РОССИИ С ЛЮБОВЬЮ!!!!
same
I agree 👍🏻
why did he paint it.. the wood color was so much better i feel.
It's a commission
sorry. i feel it would have loooked better with a more natural finish. i didnt know it was a commission. not to say anything bad about the work. its always top notch
no kidding it was a nice figured pice of wood too .
yeah, a little bit of me died inside when he painted it. Still awesome, I'd just prefer it not painted.
you have no idea how much this relaxes my anxiety, plus my grandpa was always into building things, really like! !
Absolutely loving everything in this video!! The soundtrack, the old tools, the table, the house, the scenery, ...
those legs look really green aren't they going to warp and check once they dry?
wondering the same thing
i wouldnt say warp cause they are "axially symmetric" and also very thick compared to the length. but maybe/probably crack. it will take some time cause they are covered in paint and dont lose water that fast.. but then it will probably look nice rustic
As it says in the description:
This was a commission
• The paint was requested.
• I will get a wood lathe soon i promise..
• The log was dried for over 2 years.
• The chips were not wet.
• I did need to use bondo to fill cracks and low spots in the log.
Reading is too hard for some people.
Is that John Coltrane at very fast speed??
Sure is. Jummy plays the best. Favorite Things and then Love Supreme. There is something I cannot make out before Phil Collins later on.
Captain Here!
He's singing "That's all". This song dates from Phil Collins' Genesis era.
Not only did the table come out amazing but the way you edited the video was great. Made me feel like I was in the room with you while you worked.
wouldn't be a Diresta vid without a little metalworking and a drone pan. Nice job!
Why did you paint those legs! they looked so cool
I'll bet the client wanted them painted. Jimmy cleared them and then painted them afterwards. Shame...he picked out a nice log with interesting grain and no one will see it.
"Farm house" tables often have white painted legs and clear finished tops. It's a thing. We've got a commercial boughten one, but if I built one, I'd probably paint the base too. I like the look. What I don't understand is dark stain on light wood... We're all different, so I guess it's about what one finds to be attractive...
If it is actually going to be in a farm, the paint will protect the wood better than any kind of finish.
Yeah, those legs had so much character in the grain. Commissioned pieces are going for a certain "look", I suppose, and some details get lost to satisfy that.
Dear Jimmy, do not wear gloves while working on the jointer. This is dangerous because the knives are taking over the gloved hands better.
Persons like DIRESTA comes every blue moon. The imagination, creativity and ability are awesome. I have copy a couple of projects, or tried at least, that suit my needs, but did not know how to start until I watched the videos and said to myself. Ajaaaa, thats what I need. My very best regards from Panama.
19:17 look of pure glee when a piece comes together as it should. Beautiful piece Jimmy!
Georgeous, but the white paint did hurt my soul a little bit... 😬
And yes I see it's a commission. You do have to break up all the wood sometimes in a peice for sure but what neat grain in the legs
amazing table ! and beatiful vintage jointer!I love it!
I was just about to get on to you for the paint...but I see it was requested by the customer....I bout cried when I saw you painting those gorgeous legs....beautiful work...as always !
Lovely work but painted wood? Now that is something i can't get behind
It's a commission
He's a commercial artist. He gets paid to give them what they asked for.
Some amazing work..Not that my opinion matters but i hated to see such quality wood work painted with a brush and the metal bracing not finished and painted before joining the top and pedestals.
It's true Diresta style. How he does things.
This is my new favorite from you Jimmy. Awesome build, and those machines were great to check out, that jointer is insane!
I am sitting in my little apartment, wondering why I can't build stuff like Jimmy! Jimmy, you are awesome. If I were to go to Mars, you would be one of the 10 people that I would want with me. Bring your tools!
+Charlton Carswell when do we leave ??
Love the Jazz in the background. Giant Steps is a great tune.
I heard planers sometimes referred to as "Aircraft Carriers" but geeze, Jimmy, that one actually DOES have a flight deck big enough to land F-18s on!!! OMG!!!!
My classmate lost the tip of his finger in jointer my junior year of art school so I will admit to cringing when you ran that jointer without a guard, and also for a totally different reason when you welded on top of your table saw table. Great video and awesome table, Jimmy. Now I want a lathe big enough to do that!
Fantastic table build Jimmy. Really shows off all your skills in one project
The jointer is excellent. You on the street made to the fresh air to work.))
Beautiful! Nice to hear some Giant Steps in there too!
jimmy took "giant steps" here to create a beautiful piece of furniture :D
awesome!...this dinner table with matching console table...definitely a furniture goals!
One of my all time favourite builds. I'm watching it again.
WOW! That planer / joiner is a tank! I have the same biscuit jointer, works great.
another amazing build! it is you that gave me the inspiration and drive to get my own workshop, start building and now almost 12 months on its becoming a business so for that Jimmy thank you.
I wonder is there anything he can't do? From hammer forging to wood turning.. you're a master at your crafts.
Beautiful table and a beautiful piece of property you have there.
Now that's a sturdy table. Well done as always!
I love the look of this table! GREAT JOB!!!
Beautiful Table. Awesome work.
Super clean! Simple design!! Fantastic!!
I'm seriously envious of your jointer, Jimmy. That summagun don't mess around.
I love your work. Great simple but quality workmanship. You have definitely motivated me to get back into carpentry work.
Wow, that is one gorgeous f'n table. Amazing job.
one of my favourite diresta videos but it kills me when you paint these beautiful timbers x
Good to see lucky keeping watch. Rolling those big logs on the metal lathe was pretty boss!
What a nice table.. I dream to have a home grande enough for such a piece of art.
SO AWESOME!!! I wish my lathe was big enough to turn logs that size, that looked like a lot of fun to make!
These are some of the most satisfying videos ever. I could and have watched them all day.
Drool. Absolutely love your work, Jimmy.
I am alwasy blown away by your work friend! Well done!
Jimmy, do you know how lucky you are? You get to work with the lovely Taylor in the shop. Poor Matt has to work with John. Life just isn't fair.
