No shirt is aid
TeeMustonen lol just tryna grow the sport of climbing. It’s gonna be a mainstream sport one day
Would have made it to the top just as a warmup, with the real challenge being climbing the whole thing with no legs.
2 meters, after that the rope would just have given up and ripped itself to shreds.
The crane isn't stong enough to take that much power.
I love how he gives zero context as to why there’s a massive crane casually holding a 90m rope for him. As if this is just something you come across everyday
Luke Bristow Right! Oh look! A 90 meter rope just happens to be here! I think I will climb it! Maybe they let him try it first, to see how high he can get; everyone after him tries to beat his record? Context would have really been nice!
At some point there is a "flag" with the tag "Alle mot 1" (all against one). It's a norwegian television show that is a different kind of live quiz show. 1 person is in the studio, he gets told an exercise that is goin to happend, - in this case, Magnus will climb the rope. The question is for example; How high will Magnus get? etc. He make a guess,- then the people that is watching from home can guess aswell with an app. If the person is the studio gets closer than the peoples average guess he wins the round. And if the peoples average is close they win.
He also thank NRK for the footage in the info under the video. They're the host of the show.
All in all he's probably not allowed to talk about why he's there=)
it's quite normal in norway
Here's your context. They rented two cranes so they could do a stunt for CZcams.

XD
Magnus pulls the chalk out before sex. Firm believer in protection.
considering the world record is 50m and Magnus didn't really train for this he's just really strong and a climber speaks volumes
He did great yes, but I honestly think he has room to improve with his rope climbing technique. I believe with even just a couple of weeks of practice he could shatter 50 Meters.
@@kamron_thurmond Remember that proper technique becomes more difficult the higher you go. The rope quickly gets too heavy to pull up with your foot as you try to squeeze it in between both feet to stand on it as you should. He mentions this at the end as well. After like 20m most you can do is squeeze your legs around the rope.
I do agree though he could have prepared more and he was dangling only using his arms way too often trying to figure out footwork.
Kamron Thurmond I don’t think so, he’s already had his whole life to sculpt upper body strength with what he does, and sure he can get better with improved technique but that final 9 is a hell of a lot to gain. When you near the top ends of a spectrum the difficulty really starts peaking eg, Thor deadlifting 1kg more than Eddie hall at 500-501kg. There’s potential for him but I’d argue it would take a lot more than just a couple of weeks
Guys do you realise in the one video where he went to visit his old climbing gym. he had said there used to be a rope in the middle of it. yet now he says he never climbed one? I mean if im wrong please correct me
Where did you find 50m being the record?
9:07 when you swallow the last chunk of undissolved powder in your protein shake.
Honestly thought he’d smash it, I massively underestimated how difficult this is.
Seems like he isn't getting much use from his legs at all, I think that's the main problem here.
it's a technique thing
@@danieljensen2626 plus I think the rope got progressing more difficult to ..rest arms and let legs take the strain .. and the no rest spots to calculate next move .. the next move same as the next.. a thinner more flexible rope and it's MAGNUS to the TOP 👍😁👊

@@Rexuno100 What's the premise of the show?
@@davidharder4588 its called "everyone against one", premise is one in the studio vs the people watching the show. i guess this question was, how far do he climb the rope, answer between 1-90, the one closest gets a point. votes from veiwers is put all together and the average answer of every vote is what the player in the studio is against. after several rounds with question like these there will be a winner. if the person in the studio wins, he gets money, if people voting at home wins, someone random can win money.
@@davidharder4588 its a game of everyone against one. Where the one guy guesses how far Magnus will get, then the rest of the viewers guesses (and the average answer is the answer of everyone). Lol he was blowing out his arse after about 5 seconds
Yes I think if he took twice as long to get where he ended he would've made it to top instead he was at 41 meters in just about 5 seconds short of 7 minutes so makes me think he didn't want to upload a big ass video was more important than going slow enough needed to not run out of gas. :P
This guy is an epic climber the fact he was struggling shows just how challenging this climb was!!
Well now I’ve got 9 minutes of magnus breathing at my disposal. Good climb!
Jake McCoy I actually disagree. I think you could probably run the rope through a very small machine to clean it and it would be easy and thorough. In a climbing gym you have to clean every individual hold, and wipe down all the walls really well
Lol magnus breathing compilation. If you like climbing, click on my photo. I have random climbing footage
Kinky
Jake McCoy honestly I think it really just depends on who’s doing the cleaning of either. Neither is I inherently safer. But I will say that although less people have to touch the gym, I think it’s easier and safer to use/clean to rope

Many, many years ago when in my early twenties, I spent some time as a rigger on this massive square rig yacht schooner. The four masts went up two hundred feet into the air with securing rope that also went up 150 feet on each side. One day, several of us had this idea to compete and see who could climb to the top the fastest, when just as we started our climb, the First Mate spotted us and screamed at the top of his lungs to get the hell down! He then told us of some kid who stupidly attempted the same and got up to around 50 feet before losing his strength and sliding all the way down. He had to be taken to the hospital with severe rope burns between his thighs. All I can is...Thank you sir for having saved us all that day from a similar fate or worse!
you don't think very far ahead lol

I followed Magnus closely every step of the way this time, hopeless and painful as it was. Excruciating! Listening to the breathing becoming more and more strained and watching the distance remaining becoming more and more overwhelming made it clear early on that this was undoable for Magnus on that day. But what a valiant endeavor! What perseverance! This challenge may have been the most strenuous one ever attempted by Magnus. THANKS FOR TRYING!
Even if I too suffered in a way watching this, I would not dream of pressing Thumbs down. Magnus deserves nothing but Thumbs up on this one, arguably the hardest task he set himself. To see him "fail" once in a while just adds to his greatness.
I love that there's no background on why you're attempting this, who paid and filmed this and why are you alone I wanna be down there shouting.

I never thought rope climbing would be that hard until watching this video.
EEy it's CanditoTrainingHQ's face
He's making it more difficult than he has to by using incorrect technique. He needs to wrap and lock the rope with his feet, push and extend his legs. You can see different rope locking techniques here: czcams.com/video/53WgYmEwGh4/video.html
@@HoangNguyen-hv1qy did u even watched the video lol it is not possible to use this technique once u pass like 20 meters because the higher u climb the heavier the rope is so its way more stiff
@@HoangNguyen-hv1qy Watch the video before you comment.
@@baki_sigma I watched the video. Look at the 4:01 mark, at 23 meter high when he's taking a break. The rope isn't under tension at all and it is incorrectly locked. The rope goes all way around his right leg, and then across his shins. You call that under tension? He's basically hanging from his arm.
I love how you put 100% effort in to everything you do.

I respect this dude a lot, love his videos!
My only advice is this kind of a climb is 90% legs. I wish someone had shown him the proper technique! He'd have done it otherwise!
Yup. Once you nail the J-hook technique getting up the rope is easy. It's actually harder getting down.
Although I imagine that as you're having to hook a heavier and heavier amount of rope as you climb, getting that hook becomes progressively harder.
@@philanaemic Yes. He said that at the end of the video. Rope gets too heavy to use J-hook technique as he climbed higher. He was struggling to use his legs.
Wear rubber boots. Protects the shins and grips the rope really well. Used to do this all the time on our fifty foot rope swing as a kid and it really wasn’t very hard and I wasn’t in great shape.
With a good grapevine technique you can practically let go of the rope with your hands.

So strange to see you fail at something! :) Great work!
In the army we were taught to turn the lower leg (in the video) 45 degrees up while the upper leg keeps pressing the on the rope. This way you can literally just use your legs to climb and only your hands to hold yourself so instead of pulling you push yourself up. This way you can climb indefinitely basically.
