Fantastic to see the progress here. You cruised that last lap with perfect technique. Well done 💪
Thanks again for making my intro to crack climbing such a great experience! I love watching your videos, and please do keep on making them!
He reallyl did!
btw im jack :D xD
For everyone who doesn't have access to Pete: his book on crack climbing is actually very good. It has very clear explainations and really, really good drawings. I taught myself climbing golden-sized cracks with it and i'm in the process of learning purple and red cracks. (Cam colors obviously)
For everyone who doesn't have the patience to develop pain tolerance: Just tape up.
Next crack I see at the gym or outdoors I’m trying all of this I’ve learned! Thank you for sharing and great job Geek Climber and Pete!
We all want to see you try out crack climbing too, Oswaldo!
@@GeekClimber definitely. You should both do a video together with cracks!
This is the collaboration I didn't know I needed
I have one more collab with another climbing big name incoming. Definitely stay tuned for that!
@@GeekClimber Magnus?
Love to see how actively you are applying the technique with every step! I've always heard from other videos that Pete had insane pain tolerance, now I understand why.
The video makes me hopeful to be able to crack climb. I found it insanely too painful when I tried it, but you really showed how "easily" the body can adapt to the pain when pushing enough! Great video!!!
There's a definite pain tolerance and skin conditioning aspect, but I will say that also I think a lot of why he was able to tolerate the pain better, is that it's less painful when you have better technique. When your jams are sticking well, you don't have to squeeze them as hard, so you don't put as much pressure on the bones, and they don't slip, so they don't tear up the skin.
It does take some patience to build up the pain tolerance. One thing I didn't mention in the video is that I find that maximizing the contact area between the back of the hand and the wall reduces the pain. If you brace the fingers too much, so it ends up that only the knuckles are contacting the wall, it will be a lot more painful. You got this, man!
I’m on day 3 of my gym wall training. Gone from just a couple moves to 8-10. I find the foot pain so much worse than hands. Using hand Jammies might help with that too
Maybe buying a crack climbing glove to make the pain on the hands more manageable? Can't wait to try some crack climbing, more vids please!
Man what a great collab! You always present your ideas so well and it’s very easy to digest.
Super fun to watch you make all this progress on crack climbing, would absolutely love to see a second part!
That picture of Pete SMOLDERING as he teaches
so glad to see you doing videos about climbing again! this was great!!
Great information. As always, thank you for showing us in a way beginners like me can understand
Wide boyz! Amazing! Super neat to see you connect! Well done, "geek climber", on the progress. All the best to you and for your further journey.
Hell yeah! What a collab! So happy for you Geek Climber 😁💪
You get the best collabs. Good stuff here!
Really well done. I admire your persistence
I want to try crack climbing this weekend (5/4/2024) and found your video. Your video was a VERY good beginner explanation, so I have high hopes for some kind of success.👍🏽
Thank you. Very good mix of trying and explaining. A real achievement.
Thanks for this. Hats off for the Pete for the hints.
Wow, the development is amazing. That last clip was really good form. 👌
Yes, more of Pete!
Great video! Thank you!
Yes please! More newbie crack climbing!
Nice! Look forward to Pt2
Yes, I want to see part two!
I just started crack climbing too! Geek climber, we go to the same gym. 😊we will probably see each other at the cracks one day 😂. And I agree, my feet hurt so bad !more than the hands.
There are less safety holds on the current set, so it's a bit harder to practice now than when I was working on it 😂. Definitely try out the drop heel technique! It reduces the pain a lot!
This was awesome!!
Hell yeah! Huge collab. 🙌
Yo I love this video, great stuff!
I can confirm that is my exact 5Bar review, I really do like these bars, they are so great outdoors and can take a beating in my climbing bag, I recommend!
Thanks again for your 5BAR review and long time support, Wilson!
Awesome video! Definitely gives me more confidence and knowledge to give it a crack ;)
Definitely would love to see more crack-climbing videos.
Thanks Pete!
Way to go! Feels like you will collaborate with Magnus in the near future.
My first experience with crack climbing was in Yosemite at the beginning of June this year. On swan slab near Yosemite falls, there’s a route called oak tree flake. I knew the basics of crack climbing but when I first stepped my foot into the crack it hurt like crazy. I completed the route but if the crack part was any longer I don’t know if I could’ve done it because of the pain. Great job pushing through the pain to learn the right technique and keep learning. Coming from someone with first time crack climbing experiences similar to this, I know how it feels at first and man is it difficult.
nice! I'm working that same crack at Mesa Rim :) thanks for the video
Now that is super star status - when you get coaching from Reelrock 16 Wideboyz. Wicked cool and congrats on first crack climb. 🤘 I personally don’t like it-not for pain etc., but just bcoz I’m such a clutz, I could see myself leaving a hand or foot in and take an epic fall like I always do. Ha ha ha. Never too old to fall from that height. 😆 I did my first trad climb a couple years ago-Jtree-my lead buddy placing gear in cracks-my buddy was laughing hysterically bcoz I couldn’t face climb and freaking out as I was cleaning the gear. Never fell though.
Reel Rock Season 1 Wideboyz lol. One of 1st episodes actually.
lets gooo love this crossover
I wish I could do crack at home
wow, you are amazing!
Awesome, Greetings from Mexico🤙🏼
Never tried crack but the man who lives on the bench on my street said it is the best feeling ever
Great video
nice job
Continue man, One day the average Climber will become the best ! ;)
nice!
good job... you just took classes with the best...
i did not expect this collab tbh
This is the greatest crossover ever
Yes Yes more crack climbing please :D
Great vid!! I have a question: it looks like a lot of the time when you're going up you're actually releasing both a hand and a foot at the same time, so you only have two points of contact. Is that easier than always keeping 3 points of contact, i.e., only removing either a hand or a foot at a time?
I'd love to see a outdoor crack climb that is a little longer. Maybe 10+ meters with a top rope belay
I recognized that wall immediately. That is the gym I climb at!
Nice job
I just started crack climbing tonight, behind painful. Really hoping I can push through the pain but I’m not having high hopes 😅 never had pain in my hands and feet like that before
Please do more crack climbing!
I love playing around with cracks! My belay partner usually yells at me because I will use cracks to break beta at the gym, LOL!
Yes, lets see part 2,3,4...... ;)
Bro I'm waiting for your full planche progression
Awesome colab with Pete Wit-Taker (wood-taker?)
I had no idea crack climbing was a thing and i find it crazy!
The foot pain can go way way down if you wear comfortable shoes about 1.5 sizes larger than normal
Yeah, I feel no pain crack climbing in neutral shoes with my toes just touching the ends but not curled. I feel tons of pain the moment there’s any curl
Geek climber and Wide Boyz collab at Mt Woodson or Lake Ramona? I've always wanted to see them check out some of our hard local cracks
Wideboyz should have commented on this video about ur accomplishment
Are both hands pinkie down or thumb down? Or is the top hand doing the opposite as the bottom hand?
Hey just wondering what kind if gym you go to where they have rock climbing but also gym and calesthenic equipment. Trying to see if I have one in my area. Thanks
I thought the title meant cracked climbing as in the gaming term like, op climbing lol
Yea! More crack
See if he’ll teach you some off width tactics
Well its been a year when, time to make it out and have a go at Super Natural 5.10 while you can
Pete, you're beautiful . . . and easy to understand as an instructor. 😊
Are your toes curled up in those shoes? That can make the foot jams feel less comfortable.
Are you using chalk now?
I'm surprised you didn't use crack gloves (or at least tape)...way easier and more enjoyable.
Since I am new to crack climbing, I am curious that is using crack gloves or tape considered "cheating" by conventional standards?
It normal to use tape or gloves
@@GeekClimber No. Especially for those painful indoor parallel wood cracks. Unless maybe someone thinks of wearing rock shoes as aid lol.
I mean I climbed in the '70s before cams were widespread, and some criticized them as "uncool", but believe me we got over that. One of my current favorites is steep fist cracks with gloves; almost like a sport climb (good gear too)
Shame you didn’t mention crack gloves or taping up once in the video. Almost making it sound like crack climbing is all about ignoring pain, when you can just protect your hands and get in more hours of training with gloves/tape.
This! Crack gloves end the pain for hand jams, give better grip, and protect your skin
Next challenge >>> Dyno wing
Mesa Rim
Geek, now i want to see you do le parkour :D
also, maybe have some wider shoes with not so hard soles for cracks and maybe try socks. this might help with the pain in the feet.
Where's the new videos bro?? 🥺
Being quite busy lately. Will try to finish the next video as soon as I can!
you gotta try finger cracks. you'll definitely want to use tape.
That looks so bloody painful 😢
The reason we feel pain is that we're doing damage to our body. What do you say to the doctor when you're no longer able to pour a glass of milk or tie your shoelaces?
Dang you even downclimbed it
Easy next goal: try swimming in both directions
Next level goal: do the same thing feet first!
part two: go crack climbing outdoors
Normally it’s two hands on the top to validate the climb 😂
I’m mature I’m mature I’m mature
I'm a serious adult persons, right...but describing how to climb a crack is kinda hilarious, cool stuff tho, I really enjoy your content.
Alternative title: Man torturing himself to do something cool
His videos never show up in my subscriptions, come on CZcams....
Crack gloves!
I can't believe they did not recommend crack gloves. The skin on the back of your hand is just too soft for the average climber even when you crack climb a bit. Bloody hands really ruin the climb.
Now you need to do LASIK surgery, to get rid of this annoying glass thing on your eyes. You will be happy, i am sure of it.
Crack gloves take most the pain away
I don't believe the send is worth the pain.
This shit is painful as f
Crack is whack. Crack is cheap.
