Betfair Trading Strategy : How To Trade Order Flow On Horse Racing

- In this video, we will look at how to trade order flow on pre-off horse racing markets using the Betfair exchange.
This is a Betfair trading strategy that can be used by traders of all levels, and it's one that I've been using for a long time with great success.
The advantage of trading order flow is that you don't need to do any preparation to be able to trade a market. You can just turn up, watch the market for a short while and start to form an opinion on how it's likely to trade.
There are horse racing markets 24 hours a day, seven days a week. By trading in this manner, you can take advantage of that. The number of opportunities also means you will likely find a market to fit your favourite strategy.
This is why trading order flow is my favourite Betfair trading strategy!
In this video, I take a basic ladder interface and half an hour out of my day, to show you five horse racing betting markets and how I traded them.
00:00 - Introduction
01:32 - Catching a sudden move
03:20 - A bit of scalping
05:12 - A market we don't like
05:58 - Almost a loss
15:00 - The best trade of the session
17:11 - Summary

A master at work Peter. Loved this video, especially the spike reversal trade from 3.0 back down. You make it look easy. I had a bit of success on that 14.25 Ascot race you showed but, my trade was trading Oscula coming in. Looking forward to seeing more videos like this from you. The over the shoulder trading with your narrative / thought processes are very valuable for those of us trying to 'crack it' at trading.
Oscula was coming in, but it felt like that break above 3.00 would be significant. Alas, it didn't come!
Who is Alas?
Friends of Ditto.
Thanks for sharing these trades, Pete. Very good of you to show your whole screen and thinking behind the strategies applied. These videos you are putting put are getting better all the time.
Thanks. I have put more effort into them in the last year, so it's nice to know that's appreciated.
Great video Peter. Thanks for sharing. I’ve been trading for 8 years and still watch all of your videos and find them enjoyable
I appreciate that! Thank you.
Great video, I enjoy seeing these examples.
Glad you like them!
Great video Peter. Enjoy this style of video as it’s good to see your thought process on different types of races
Thanks for the feedback
Thank you Peter! I think I'm slowly starting to see market moves just as they're about to happen, whereas I used to see them when they were happening. That's all thanks to you :D
That's good. Successful trading is typically a process of anticipation.
Loved the real time perspective of the markets. More like this please, little pieces of information that i would have never of thought of...like the short priced fav...I got that trade just on the break of low but never thought why that happenes!!! Doing forex kind of dulls your other senses, hard to step out of that thinking sometimes. Good video peter keep em coming 👍 👌
Thanks for your feedback. There is logic in everything if you dig deep enough. But even then, things can still go wrong. You just have to focus on what you know.
This is gold. Could watch hours of this. An experienced, pro-trader going through his thought processes. You make it look so easy. Having said that, I would never have laid that fave at 3 haha. Cheers Peter. More like this please.
I'd prefer it to be at the bottom of the range to be honest. But I thought it was worth a shot! No harm done.
Enjoyed this, thanks !
Thanks for the feedback. It's been more popular than I expected.
One of your best videos, I think. Watching you mange the Oscula race was very educational, and shows there is no substitute for experience.
Many thanks.
Great to watch your trades Peter. I particularly like the first trade where you oppose a sudden movement in price and ride the wave. This seems to happen a lot.
Y, prices bounce around a lot, and that can present opportunities quite often.
Thanks Peter, very insightful. My last trade is always my worst, need to stop my day just before the "One more then im done".
That's what we would call over trading!
More of these please!
Noted
I’ve traded most of these races. Good to hear your thinking as I remember what I did too.
That's good. Hopefully, you can contrast the two.
@@betangeltv it was more or
less similar, what really got me however is your Ascot trade, and how patient you were. I got a better entry point on this one around 2.8-2.9 but got
bored or something like that and ended up break even while you managed to profit because you were very confident and relaxed
God bless you peter.. i dont give out props to anybody but you deserve it. i would love to reach out if you could be a mentor of mine
Many thanks, that's much appreciated. I struggle to find the time to do videos, so it's nice to know they are appreciated.
Thanks Peter for this GREAT video, you remind me of an old instructor I once had many years a go, a person whom I hold deepest respect for, have you ever thought about writing a book?
Yes, hopefully I'll get the time at some point.
This video keeps coming up on my feed even though it's a year old. It's one of your best videos explaining overflow. I must of watched it a dozen times now. Im using betangel pro and really trying to master trading overflow on horse racing markets. But I'm still getting mixed results. Do you offer any advanced courses on trading overflow as I'm at the stage now where I will do anything to learn this skill and become a more profitable trader ? Thanks again for all your free content. You are the most genuine person in this industry and I have the upmost respect for you. I would love to meet you one day and shake your hand ✋
Thanks for your comments. I have done courses in the past, but I'm focusing more on online content. I tend to update the content in the winter, when I'm not so busy.
Hi Peter . do you know what i like best about your videos on betangel and formulas is that it teaches people subconsiosly doing research .
If you start out its realy recomended to learn how to read data .
Since i import average times and goals . and put the number of games per total goals and number of games of times first goals scored . i improved my results significant , just by visualizing it as scales.
Wich in turn improves the formulas and ods , bts , xG ,correct scores , strenghs etc you explained in earlier videos .
That's good to hear, as I aim to try and give people the building blocks for them to work with and take forward. It's all logical and progressive. But that very last bit needs to be done on your own so you get an edge.
Good to hear that it's being used!
@@betangeltv Its like a physics teacher ones said , there are 3 types of students 1 that learn and dont care , 2 the ones that learn and use the formulas for their profesion and 3 there are students that see a formula and ask the question where and how can i or it be used for .
Could you do a video on your pond and fish please. Is it natural? I much prefer this to the square ponds with windows that seem to be the fashion. Lovely
The previous owners installed it, but they let it slide a little. So I've thrown a lot more life back into it since then, and it's doing well. Many different creatures live in and around it, a kingfisher joined the ecosystem this year.
Great job, but you need to make a Portuguese version available. Thanks.
Unless we can find a partner who is willing to support a Portuguese version, it's unlikely we will produce one.
Hi Peter,
Just to check I’m not going crazy, please tell me there were other factors behind your decision to back the short priced fav (right at the bottom of its trading range) in the final race other than it was a ‘sure thing’? Please reassure me there were other reasons and/or indicators you were using to back up this theory? I don’t expect you to reveal all your secrets so a simple yes or no will do thanks.
I’m assuming it’s not wise to back every short priced favourite in a handicap on the basis it’s unusual to normally see that?
When you enter any trade, you should have a list of things that allow you to rank the quality of the opportunity. So there will be many things that go into that to make a trade. But most trades start with a simple concept and information that confirms or rejects the idea.
hi peter, how do you get the yellow and tiny grey button at the top of the grid(£50) great video btw
Go to the ladder settings and the unmatched bet area, and you can decide how to display your unmatched bets in those settings.
Hello, I'm looking at betangel software currently. Is there a automated dutching option? I'd like to dutch on for example greyhounds fav and 2 fav when their odds lie between a certain amount (with min amount of numbers). Is this possible to automate? Thanks
There is some ready made dutching automation that may be useful to you - forum.betangel.com/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=11649
Hello Peter.
Using your software, Can you tell me how i can " drip feed " my stake into the " Back" side of the market ?
Say for example i want £200 on a selection at a certain price but i dont want the full £200 visible to the Layer . Hope you understand. Thanks
Martin
I think you may have written into support today. So hopefully they answered your question.
Hello sir , my name is Sagar । And i have some question
hi peter is there more videos of you trading horse racing? I have done all your training videos on your website. cheers
Most of them have been uploaded to the Academy. There are about three to four hours of videos there. Not sure if those are the ones you have seen?
Hi peter I think I’ve seen them all, is there any other courses that you can recommend to improve my trading? Cheers
There are not many I can recommend, as most of them have been created by people trying to sell stuff to people interested in trading rather than putting in the effort to trade themselves.
So I'm sceptical about a lot of the content I see.
I'm planning to release a lot more content in the winter, so that should be helpful.
In the summer I'm mainly trading, so don't have much time to put new content out or organise old content.
I see these videos and think damn that's so good I'll start doing that
Then the comments are 'wow you make it look easy'
Immediately killing the idea dead in the water 😂
That's the deal really. Trading is simple, but not easy. The hardest way to earn an easy living.
Just like a real job you have to put the effort. in to the get reward out.
Hi peter, in your thumbnail you have used jigsaw platform. I like the ability to see traders coming to market, however when I look at your depth of market, it doesn't seem to have that feature. Is there any way that feature can be applied?
Betfair only published matched and unmatched amounts via their API, so there isn't any more information available beyond that.
You do get last traded amounts that you can display on Bet Angel, but the level of information available on betting markets is not the same as a corresponding financial market.
@@betangeltv Thank you Peter, that makes sense
Also what is your view on trading with leverage?(cfd) not on its intended practice to hedge off a owned stock that may go south, but to trade it like a owned stock. Do you think leverage is a good way or bad way to go?
cheers
It's generally not a good idea as it forces your hand.

Thx - what type of chart is displaying at the bottom ? Is that the enhanced area ?
BF charts are pretty useless now, but this is a replica that is available on the forum - forum.betangel.com/viewtopic.php?f=67&t=22921
@@betangeltv Thx - have downloaded and added the chart. Its not immediately showing the same green and red lines your graphs have.
Is he chart Price or Volume ? And what data series should be selected ?
I have imported the chart, using Volume, Data series box has 2 items - Exponential Moving average and Volume.
The Data series config is set as Exponential MA, Data value = volume, Display style = Filled ranged from base.
Is this correct ?
The red line is a plot of the last traded price. The green dashed line is simply the price envelope. (Bollinger bands if you are looking at financials)
The bottom is volume and average volume filled from base.
Every time I go into a market on the ladder it goes against me why is it happening regularly very frustrating
That's a classic bit of trading psychology. You are following the market rather than anticipating it.
OK thank you I'll keep plugging away lol
Now where is my time machine. I need to go back 10 years.
Where is that thumbnail from? What is it showing?
That's from a financial market platform.
Jigsaw
Do you pay betfair premium charges?
Since the day they were created.
Is there any automation of this strategy?
If you are asking, is there something I can plug in that will make buckets of money really easily without an effort, no.
But there are tons of example automation files on the forum that will help you get closer to any strategy you wish to deploy: -
forum.betangel.com/viewforum.php?f=43
@betangeltv I didn't ask for a ton of money in a short time. I had one of your automation, which made small pennies all day long. When I do this type of strategy manually, it works, but when I try to make automation, it doesn't work. Maybe I didn't explain properly.
If you can do it manually, you should be able to do it better with automation.
If you can't it means that your manual trading contains information that you haven't put into the automation. Which is interesting in itself.
