In this video I teardown a core GM 6.2L L92 V8 Engine from a 2007 or 2008 Cadillac Escalade or GMC Yukon Denali. This is a VERY common core engine through our shop and you get to see just what I do when I take these engines apart.

It is! I did it for a few months as an intern at an arrive and drive nascar experience company years ago. Moved onward and upward but im glad to have had the opportunity.
I would find it very tedious (boring) if I was just pulling them down since I'm an electrical fitter/mechanic who has rebuilt them.
I've never had to fully rebuild a GEN3-GEN5 Chevrolet V8 engine,all my LS1 has had done to it is I replaced the hydraulic lifters which got mushroomed in the engine block as I needed to use a set of multigrips to pull number 6 exhaust hydraulic lifter out of the engine block.
I replaced the timing chain with an upgraded Rollmaster timing chain & sprocket kit to an LS2 type because they have thicker links than the LS1 timing chain ,it was a bit loose & I had to pull the timing cover off to replace the leaky gasket.
I've resealed the engine but all of the pistons, rings, bearings & even the valves haven't been touched,the valves didn't leak when I tested them with acetone for leakage,it had done 337,512 kilometres (209,720 miles) back then in 2018.
It's coming up to having done 363,000 kilometres (225,558 miles) now & the repairs were done over 2 years ago, the engine hasn't missed a beat in that time !

Always enjoy watching you do a tear down. You do it very professionaly and also explain what you are doing and why there is or is not value in the engine / parts. I would say your tear down videos are really the standard other you tube mechanic videos should be emulating. Please keep them coming.

Breaking them down is easy. It's the reassembly that's tedious. It's not hard if you take your time and pay close attention to details.

I had an old Pontiac Transport that had a spark plug that the crook broke off of. I warped the exhaust valve. Nothing else damaged. We fixed it and were back up and running. Great video's.
Good stuff man! I’d like to imagine a lot of these issue stem from lack of maintenance especially with Truck/SUV variants. How many people I’ve met that didn’t realize oil needed to be changed as often as it does is scary lol
Please do the AMG one. These videos are great. No BS, straight to doing. That block needs just sleeves and it's good for 1000+ HP.
Is there enough material there for a sleeve? They look kind of thin, unlike old iron.

@@1982MCI Just guessing here but I would assume that crack follows into the water jacket as well. The cylinder is visibly out of round. With the water jacket cracked I would think it would be a major headache.
My old boss and I were dreaming one day about having our own salvage yard and do exactly what you are doing. I would be great!

Love your videos. Chrysler has an awful lot of problems with valve seats. I just fixed my wifes jeep where that happened. But at 7:45 of this video you showed the missing valve seat and called out chrysler. Just a Freudian slip. Understand GM does it just as well.

I'd say I'm old-school small block chevy guy, but after seeing how these engines are assembled I actually might consider building an LS engine.

You should film us a video explaining your thoughts on the various motors you deal with, like their common failures or maybe a particular block that you see a lot of/not a lot of. What you recommend or don’t!
Love this channel. One issue is would love to know the mileage of these horrible motors gm or otherwise so people knew what brand to buy or stay away from. Good stuff , keep it up.

I'm enjoying these videos. Its shocking how modern engines all seem to have a major weakness. Of course poor maintenance would contribute to catastrophic failures however our host often mentions, 'this is common on these engines,' when pointing out a destroyed piston or bearing, so it can't always be ignorant owners. My only suggestion would be to put a theory forward why a particular engine has blown up.
As a non-mechanic, but lover of all things mechanical, I appreciate the time you take and am fascinated by the beating some of these engines take . . . By the way, I thought Adam Sandler was doing engine tear downs the first time I watched one of your videos.

I for one do like the fast forwarded removal of junk over a straight skip. Seeing how everything comes apart is a bit interesting. If that is too difficult for you then I will try to be happy with how it is… that sounds like most of my life 😮

What’s even more amazing it the fact that someone went trough the trouble of removing the engine rather just junking the whole vehicle! Yes that’s right “ professional grade” USA! USA!
I hate when a seller caps everything, but leaves the exhaust open. I opened an engine that was so rusty because of that oversite. Mice made it a home so the rust and smell made for a fun tear apart.

If you want to put up a listing for a box of bolts from an LS or couple of LS’s I’d probably buy one if it’s priced decently. I’m finishing up a swap and always have to stop and go get hardware.

Will be looking at a L92 in a couple Weeks, Hope to be able to pull Plugs, Heads and Pan Off before paying for it

I'm sure you've seen by now but in case you haven't, he does have a video tearing down a 6.7 Cummins and I believe a 5.9.

"No matter what you do, these engines always break exhaust manifold bolts..." That is GM engineering and quality for you.
The LS is one of the most reliable and best performing engines you could possibly buy. They’re affordable since so many were/are made, and you can make BIG power with only a few bolt ons. Every manufacturer has faults in some way, shape or form. But I generally agree, I’m not buying a new GM product under any circumstances.

I used to have a former NC State Trooper 1995 9C1 Caprice with the 5.7L LT1. For the longest time I planned around and dreamed about an L92 and 6L80 or 6L90 swap. Never happened. Not enough funds, not enough time.
Now that car's been gone 7+ years. The dream now is a Cybertruck LOL.
