    I have a fault with the AC on my 1997 c class 280 the compressor engages for about 30 sec and blows very cold air then disengages clutch I know that the refrigerant charge is correct as Ihave evac system and charged with factor amount of 134a The two sensors on the receiver may be the problem I don't know, is there any way to short these out for testing purposes the only fault codes I had that came up were 22.7,23.2, 23.3 and the two that you also had come up 41.6 and 41.7 Cheers Denis

  • @TheBlueTurfdotcom
    @TheBlueTurfdotcom Před 10 lety

    Great video. I will try to make a long story short. I had a new compressor installed every thing was fine a couple days later the clutch snapped right off. I took it back to the location that installed it. They put a new compressor in however they claimed that my climate control system failed and the system was running just on ec. The compressor kicks on and off pretty quickly and from my gages appears to be slightly high side with presure. I ran your code and came up with collect levels and 451 as current then all the flap codes after that . Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 10 lety

      the shop that installed the compressor should have evacuated and the then refilled the refrigerant. They made a mistake and it sounds like they are looking to blame someone...EC mode just turns the compressor off... I run my cars in EC mode 90% of the time...451 is the diverter flap and should also have nothing to do with the compressor ..it only opens/closes to redirect air,,,the flaps are all controlled by vacuum and the main vacuum block for them is under the glovebox by the interior air filter...look up in there for leaking or unhooked hoses

    • @TheBlueTurfdotcom
      @TheBlueTurfdotcom Před 10 lety

      ***** Thank you I've already got the blower motor out as it is and clearly that is not the issue. do you have any links to a dia for the 1996 c220? I have a feeling the leak was cause by a different shop doing other work.

    • @TheBlueTurfdotcom
      @TheBlueTurfdotcom Před 10 lety

      ***** as for the ac is it your opinion that the repair would be to have it properly evaded and refilled?

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 10 lety

      TheBlueTurfdotcom before any refrigerant containing component removed is from the a/c system, the system needs to be evacuated (it's actually illegal for them not to vacuum out the old refrigerant) then the faulty component gets replaced , the system refilled and pressure tested.. here is a good diagram of your a/c system components

    Hope your winter is progressing well. I have had a slight coolant smell at idle at temperature for a while. Never when moving , no coolant leak anywhere to be seen, no moisture from HVAC sys. It does use coolant I have put in a gallon over 5 years and assume that there is a slight HG leak, but it runs fine. No smell or leak under the hood. I mean it can only be the heater core or lines but why would it not smell all the time? I did put in some stop leak a couple of years ago but didnt do much good. Any thoughts ? I would wait until summer to pull core as the car will be in my garage until snows gone.

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 8 lety

      +William Z I would think the heater core would leak a lot quicker since it is under pressure. But it could be the core.. Before going to that extreme, you could find a UV light and check under the hood once the car is running. The coolant should fluoresce under UV . A very tiny drip here and there can add up, and not be noticed especially under the hood. My first suspect would be the water pump seal at the bottom drip tube...they can leak slowly for years before they go completely

    Since you seem to be a bit of magician, I have a '99 E430 Avantgarde Auto. EC red light's been on for about a month. Had it re-gassed this morning - it was about one third full - but light still stays on and it won't blow cold air. Technician said the system was all fine, with no leaks, etc and it pressurised OK, but he didn't know the reset code.
    Sensor read-outs are below.
    1. 30
    2. 25
    3. 31
    4. 30
    5. 26
    6. 77
    7. 06
    8. 32
    The only error code is:
    E. FF - which I think means No Errors, but not sure.
    After getting the E FF code, pressing the REST button would not exit out of TROUBLE CODE RETRIEVAL MODE setting without switching the car ignition off. I then tried pressing AUTO buttons simultaneously but this won't switch off EC light - so presumably not engaging the compressor.
    Also, the built-in light has failed and I can't see it to operate at night.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Matthew

    I have a c280 and the temp hand is going up. I looked under the hood looking for the temp air senor and notice a small tan holes cut it was so hard the heat under the car could have cracked it. I replaced it and drive the car for about 15 mins and the temp hand stay at half point till I stopped and pulled over and it moved up. Then I notice the fan only worked when the AC was on and even then the hand still moved. what do you think could be the problem. I haven't tried anything else at the moment.

    Idk if this matters or not but maybe this can help someone else because I was having a hell of a time with it - if your a/c is already set to low when you start this procedure, set it up a few degrees and turn the car off and back on then start the procedure. Apparently the unit only will go into diagnostic mode within 20 seconds of changing the setting to Lo.

    • @TheStiver
      @TheStiver Před 9 lety

      I found an official procedure online and it said "within 20 seconds of setting to low.." and it wasn't going for me until I did that. But apparently I picked up a stone on the highway not too long ago that popped a leak on my Chinese replacement condenser, I'm impressed the car detected a slight drop in pressure and locked out the compressor until I reset it (it still had enough to cool fairly well)... Then checked the pressures and added dye and the condenser was pretty obvious.. Long before ever running the system all the way down. And yes, I was trying to use a/c in January, it was in the low 70s*F today!!

    my heaters./aircon are constantly blowing seems like on full fan power when i put the fuse in the fuse box, even when the key is out of the ignition.. ?? 1997 C200

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 7 lety

      check the blower regulator , it is likely the cause.. There is power to the fan even when the car is off (rest function ) and the regulator controls the negative feed to the fan .. if the regulator is bad it can constantly feed power to the fan motor. It's pretty cheap and easy to change. It is under the passenger side footwell above the passenger's knees. Once the cover is removed the regulator is the silver finned thing screwed to the fan housing.

      Jim Brown reading the codes on the climate unit is the easiest way to diagnose the issue... a few other things to look at..
      turn the a/c on (ec button off turns a/c on) and check to see if the a/c compressor on the front of the engine engages..the round outer part in front of the belt should engage and spin with the belt..if it doesn't usually the pressure switch/sensor is bad..or there are climate codes that need to be reset.. if the "ec" button remains lit up when pushed..the codes need to be reset

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 8 lety +1

      +abdellatif gbella 416 is coolant recirc pump... after the car has been driven for a while press the "rest" button on the climate control panel when the car is turned off and see if you get warm air continuing to come from the vents for the next 10 minutes. If the air is still warm ( you will also hear a click every few seconds while it is in "rest" mode.) then the recirc pump is good. Does your air conditioning work ? 419 is usually caused by an aircon system needing re-gassing. The ESP could be a whole lot of things.. Does ABS work ? Does cruise control work ?

    Thank you for the amazing videos! I just had a question. My AC has never worked.. When I bought the car the seller said a mechanic quoted him $600 to fix it.. So today I pulled up the codes and man were there a lot.. There was only one current code.. 241 (low level).. Now for the pending codes, it gave me 231, 233, 416, 417, 419, 459, 451, 452, 455, 456, 457, and 458 lol.. Do you think it could be as easy as topping up the refrigerant? When I bought the car the blower motor wasn't working.. which I fixed right away, so that is probably where a lot of those codes are coming from.. Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated :) Thank you

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 10 lety

      low level could be the only issue...very often it is the reason A/C systems fail..the refrigerant being low will trip the pressure switch to not allow the compressor to come on...if you erase the codes and the only current one is 241..It would be simple and cheap to top it up and cross your fingers :)
      Without the old codes clearing the system won't operate properly. Pending codes are old ones not erased that the system thinks may occur again since they happened before, and may not be resolved since they are uncleared

Just got air coming out the front defroster and two side vents regardless where the setting was set - Defroster, floor or center air flow. Nothing out the center. The fan didn't seem to run real fast. I recharged the air system and the air got a little cooler but not much. Now today the fan stopped working all together. Needless to say this is making me sick. I can't get rid of the car. I just spent $435.00 to disconnect the locking system at a Benz dealer, towing included, and $450 for ball joints, tires and inspection. same issue as DJBRAINBUZZ had a few weeks ago (see comments and links below) the pulse modulator on the aux fan is either faulty or the wires are corroding...it counts the revolutions of the aux. cooling fan motor to make sure it is adequately turning to cool off the condenser ...when it isn't getting a proper signal it defaults to 72 degrees and fan on to prevent engine overheating damage...it's kinda overkill, and something only the Germans would think of...the links will show you how to find it under the fender well

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox  Před 10 lety

      William Z not sure how to test one or tell if it is bad...I would guess that if the hvac comp. says it isn't getting the signal there must be something wrong... I have yet to have the self diagnosis components on any Mercedes give me a wrong answer...that's why there are usually more than 1 code..since one failed sensor can cause another to have a false reading , the codes will come up for both as possibilities ...I have found more often that not that older electronic components with a circuit board can be repaired by re-tinning (melting the solder joints and allowing them to re-form) and de-whiskering the board...it has been found that since the demise of lead in solder, there is a tendency for solder joints to form microscopic "whiskers" or tendrils that grow out and make contact with nearby circuits...as long as there is no power to the circuit board it can be cleaned of tendrils with a soft plastic brush (gently brush the circuit board and blow it off with compressed air) www.empf.org/empfasis/2009/may09/tin.html

      There should be 2 aux. cooling fans visible when the hood is opened...with the car turned off and cold (make sure the engine is cold because you need to check if the fans will spin ,by turning them with your finger.. if they spin they are not seized..check fuse #44 in the fusebox ..it controls the auxiliary cooling fans.. there are 2 relays #21 and #26 remove and swap the 2 around.. if the blower inside the car still moves air like it should then the relay is fine.. if swapping the relays made the fan inside the car now not work, the realay is bad ( the 2 relays are identical for the aux. fan and the interior blower , so swapping them around is the quickest easiest way to test them. ) also check the big plug for the fans on the side of the radiatior.. unplug it and check for corrosion.. BTW does the car ever overheat ? The aux fans will come on for 2 reasons ..a/c on .. or engine temp high . If the fans spin by hand, the #44 fuse is good, and the relay test was fine , the likely cause is low refrigerant level in the a/c system..There is a pressure switch in the a/c refrigerant lines ..if the pressure isn;t high enough the fans will not come on

      William Z HHmm I don't see how it could ..the air pump is just to decrease emissions when the fuel mixture is rich when cold ..the vent shift is possibly the vacuum leaking down when the car is off..it builds as the car is running ,then holds proper setting...once off it is leaking down...it is designed to default to defrost, so if the vacuum system fails, the area most related to safety gets the airflow...windshield

      +fupabox I found a slight air leak in the line that goes to a part that I am embarrassed to say I dont know the name of. The line originates from under the front top engine cover and goes to the part which is on the left side of the motor from the front and directly over the alternator.

    So I ran the codes and found PO507 confirmed,PO201 pending, P1747 pending---probably due to my cluster work, and PO460. Car runs fine but is only getting 28 mpg trip, but I was going 75 to 80 all the way. PO201 is the only one that concerns me

      0201 is injector on #1 cylinder...prob wiring, 0507 is idle speed too high..likely caused by 0201...1747 is transmission electronic control wiring at speed sensor in gauge cluster..0460 is fuel level sensor, prob associated with the wiring in the gauge cluster as well...
      engine-codes.com/search_codes.php?q=p0460
      that site you can enter the code on an it will tell the result by manufacturer..from what I can see the first 2 are related, as are the second 2

      ***** Thanks. Is #1 at the front of the engine? Do you pinch and pull up to remove the injector conn? Wiring looks ok loom fine from what I can see. New injectors at 187k? All the other codes are probably from when the odo went to zero when I replaced the leds in the cluster. U on FB?

      William Z Is there a diagram that will tell me which harness on which computer goes to the #1 injector so that I can run its' resistance?
