HONDA VTR 1000 REVIEW FIRESTORM OR SUPERHAWK 1997 this is a quick review of the VTR nothing technical just the way the bike feels to ride - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I've had a a lot of sport bikes including this bike. Probably the most fun I've had on a sport bike. I currently own a fist gen zx10r and 1999 Firestorm. I ride the VTR a lot more. Simply feels like she will take care of me. My ZX on the other hand wants to kill me when I ride her. Love them both for different reasons. Firestorm is my favorite all arounder ... The most fun I've had on a sports bike period. PS..... It will hang with anyone in the canyons. Especially the tight technical stuff.
Ha yes they are an underrated bike indeed easy to work on and after a few modification and a little tuning they feel great.... Love the exhaust sound... And we love old sports bikes way more fun 🙏
I bought a bright yellow 98 firestorm with 23K on the clock a few months ago. To be honest the oldest and highest mileage bike I have ever bought. It is such a blast, mine came with MCCT's, Rebus GP Cans and a decent rectifier. It also benefited with the addition of a quality full pyramid belly pan in black, with black powder coated wheels. I love riding it despite my back catalogue being mostly in line fours, mainly blades and gixxers. A very underrated bike in my opinion and a torque monster.
Nice I do actually like the yellow colour the best It stands out more I do want to buy another and totally customise it with a great paint job
Hey man! Wanted to give you a huge shoutout on these videos. I just got a VTR1000F a few weeks ago (that was yellow in a previous life) and without you, I wouldn’t have had the easy time I did fixing my bike. We had identical issues and your videos saved this bike a lot of heartache!
That's awesome 👌 I am so glad to help that's what the videos are for ... thank you for your time..
Regards.
Paul.
I totally agree with you I've been riding liter bikes for the last 30 years I pretty much owned everything at one point or another and I just picked up a 2001 Super Hawk 996 for a really good price and I am surprised on how much I'm liking it it pulls hard I love the sounds that it makes handles well for its age wow I couldn't imagine owning it back in 2001
Yes it all depends on what you expect from it most people just expect it to be a superbike but there is so much more to it... It does ride smooth especially in traffic but also if you want to ride it hard and fast it will perform despite its basic suspension set up... So it's quite a surprising bike
My Firestorm is 26 years old this year and it is still more thrilling than most new bikes…mine is a lot throatier (Hindle pipes and cans :) and I have raised the riding position by installing a super bike bars. It’s now way more comfortable on longer tours ( I’m almost 70 :) Still popping the front wheel at will! 😎
I haven't seen any of them about at all since this video they are actually getting rare
Never understood why the Firestorm didn't have a belly pan? Looks gorgeous with one.
Yeh I do think they did come as standard on some models
@@PXCBIKES I wasn't aware of that. I don't they ever came with one in the UK, not including the small front exhaust guard, rather than a full belly pan.
Yeh, this was an import bike from Japan, so maybe you got more over there 🤔
I put two more teeth on rear sprocket, carry a spare voltage regulator,I bought mine new in 98 .
It steers well because of short wheelbase , the wheelbase ,rake and trail are a exact copy of the 916 specs, the bike is like a 916 with budget suspension and street ergos and a better more powerful and durable motor.
Glad you like it but it was depressing watching the vid while you have those original pipes on...you're missing the best bit =) Maybe do a bafflectomy? You're handy in the shed and should get a few views.
Loads of owners slag the suspension but mine is amongst the best I've had from stock and the handling seems completely intuitive to me. Even the stock brakes are good with SBS sintered road pads.
Keep up the good work
Oh I'm sorry it was depressing 😳.... Yeh I mentioned it needs open silencers on it... Really don't know why Honda put these silencers on them it's a little much.... 😬
Hi, thanks for the video. Did you fix the engine brake issue when down shifting? Especially in first and second gear it's extreme with mine.
Hello I sold the VTR but It was just the standard gearing so change the front sprocket go up one tooth
1 fantastic 2 speed ol
This bike lones speed :)
I have owned this BEAST FOR over 3ys ANDD LOVE IT!!
This Machine is better than CBR 600:)
CBR with ATITUDE !
Awesome Karl 👌 get some race exhausts...open up the sound and scare people
I wouldn’t change my rc51 for anything but I’m guessing that the vtr 1000 is easier to live with. 😃
Haha I can understand RC51 is a great looking bike for sure.. the Firestorm is way cheaper but does require alot of care
I wish I could get mine to run longer than 30 minutes .. my digitals flicker . Then dash goes blank shortly after the bike will have u stranded . Something is killing my battery
I changed the stator the RR and still does the flickering then goes blank and dies
Oh no that's annoying.... OK so have you fitted a new battery?.... It is hard to diagnose a problem without the bike being in front Of me but how the electrical charging system works is.... Power from the battery turns the starter motor then the AC power comes from the stator and hits the regulator rectifier........ Then the power goes to the battery for charging...... I think on the VTR the power from the Regulator rectifier goes to a fuse on the starter solenoid then to the battery......
It does sound like you have a faulty battery or a bad ground from the battery and when you ride the bike it just runs the battery down and dosent recharge....... Yes this could be a RR fault but you say the RR has been replaced then I would swap the battery and check the ground wires..... It just sounds like the battery is not holding charge
I so wanted one of these...
Until I sat on an one.
What a plank! It was like sitting on a short (I'm 6'5") stack of bricks, and that tiny top yolk and narrow set clip-ons???
Ah well its not for everyone eh 💁♂️
I'm 6' 3" and find the Storm perfectly comfortable, I love it.
And it's silver too, best colour by far😊
You have a silver bullet too 🙌

I don't think I even put my feet on the pegs, it was the seat and bars that put me off immediately.
Bought a TL1000S instead.
Unpredictable bitch of a bike but even after a series of RSV's and my current RC8R I still miss the hooliganism of the TL.
@@PXCBIKES I do indeed, with a Maxton shock and fork revalve.
Fun or what 😀
It is indeed 👍
Evening Sir. Thinking of buying a VTR. Is the riding position any good for small amounts of touring ?
Many thanks.
The riding position absolutely yes perfect... However the fuel tank is small so fuel consumption is not good but you can install a larger fuel tank if you can find one 👍
@@PXCBIKES Brilliant thanks for your response and input.
When I say touring I mean between 100/120 miles a day. Does this still make the VTR a good buy for the job ?
@@mooncat.787 Oh yes I would say so 👍
@@PXCBIKES Thank you Sir for your valued input.
VTR it is then. I'll keep you updated of my purchase once I get my grubby hands on one.
Many thanks again.
You do that 🙏👍
From 6:20 only a still image until the end
😳 What the heck is happening there 😳 must be a glitch with youtube thanks for letting me know it didn't do this when I uploaded it.... I have messaged CZcams it could take a few hours to re process it 🙏
Just brought a VTR can't find out much about the exhaust the silencers are called V-Force, It sounds very nice can't find much out about them.
Have now found on Google search some slip ons called Dominator they are exactly the same in appearance and the measurements are the same 400mm long. They sound deep and loud and not too expensive at £212.
Well that's cheap 🤔 I didn't know you could still buy exhausts for them 👍🏁
Silver Dream Machine lol "David Essex"
😂😂😂😂😂😂 Nooooooooo!
