Bahamas #4: North Eleuthera/Spanish Wells

- After being delayed by weather in Florida for a night, we depart Ft Pierce (FPR) for a VFR flight to North Eleuthera Airport (MYEH).
The Bahamas don't have the same level of weather reporting/forecasting we have in the US so I decided to stay low below the clouds to avoid the showers/thunderstorms. Miami Center helped with a suggested heading and described the weather they were painting on their air traffic radars. Due to the weather we weren't able to go direct but we enjoyed the slightly longer route by getting to see more of the islands on our way down there.
After landing we took a taxi to the boat dock and a water taxi over to Spanish Wells where we stayed the night in a beautiful home that came with a golf cart to get around the island on. We had a blast eating at the different restaurants, going to the beach, jumping off the bridge and just relaxing.

@@noneNone-mw1px I don't know what they make and It doesn't matter. They work hard for their money and deserve to buy what they want. It is a used plane - Not a brand new one. Not that it matters... Try to relocate to have more opportunity to make more if that's what your looking for.

I really appreciate you choosing to share your adventures from start to finish, I have picked up on some good technique, its interesting to see how two controllers interact with ATC. Me too! The house I stayed at on Andros was untouched but I hear that the place we went to at Treasure Cay has been demolished. I wish my plane wasn't apart for upgrades as I'd like to help fly supplies to the people in need down there.

Thank you for sharing. Totally enjoy your channel. Brings back a lot of memories. For about three or four years chartered a flight round trip at Christmas, daughter and father flight crew. I always flew with the daughter. I would fly into JFK take a cab to LaGuardia. She would meet me in LaGuardia I remember it being dark inside the terminal.With one person behind the counter. She would come in dressed in her uniform and take my luggage she would invite me to sit up front with her. She would turn on the intercom on so I could hear the radio traffic. Memories of banging noise at times. Asked her what it was she stated it’s ice breaking off of the wings. I will also always remember seeing the town of Nantucket from the air and her keying the mic and the runway lights lighting up. Also remember thinking I was going to leave the island and not leaving any extra time to get off and not being able to fly off because of fog. Also always thought of John Kennedy jr. Great memories thank you for bringing them back. Sorry for the long post.

I have an appointment Monday to get my medical so that I can start my private. I started in the early 90's and got to my cros counties and could not finish. You two have motivated me to go back. Keep the videos coming, thanks so much.
Glad your getting back into it Dale. I have the exact story as you. I finished my PPL about 6 months ago. Getting back into it all these years later was tasking to say the least. Memory and flying skills not as polished. If I can do it you can to. Good luck Dale!

@@310Pilot This geezer has been binge watching your videos sometimes till late trying to catch up. Although I have had my share of riding from a Piper Cub to a Citation, to a Stearman with floats to facing backwards in a Navy COD doing an arrested landing and cat shot and more, I never got the serious bug to learn how to fly them. I'm sure you know you two are fortunate to be able to hop in the family plane and go instead of grinding out the hours on the road or taking the cattle car express. Fly safe.

Flying over open water with meager radio contact sure makes a pilot pay attention to the dashboard! It made me anxious just watching; I imagine Kevin was running a few thoughts through his brain. You handle your plane like a well trained pilot and I love riding with you two.

My dream destination in the Bahamas has always been Treasure Cay, but now thinking I want to go to North Eleuthera after seeing this video. Nice job working out the landing sequence well in advance of arrival. It sure helps when pilots do a good job of talking to each other at uncontrolled airports!
I hope you get to make it down there one day! Well worth it. I think my favorite was Congo Town on Andros and Jaime's was might have been a tie between all 3. They all have different flavors to them. We'll document all 3 in this series.

I sensed a little nervousness during the first part of the trip. I don't know why... low, over water, out of radio and radar contact... perfectly normal flying right? LOL I'd have been puckering a little too but MAN... the scenery was just gorgeous. What a great trip you guys are having. Thanks for bringing us along (and I for one am grateful that no creepy comments were forthcoming... except for that Roll Tide thing... eew :o) )
I guess I was at a bit of heightened state of alert with it being new and all. Was super easy...next time I'll be a little more relaxed. :) It was an amazing trip. Highlight of my flying to this date. Glad you enjoyed it Michael! Go Dawgs!!!!
The day you stop being nervous / alert / on guard, is the day you get out of flying.
Hyper-vigilence is necessary sometimes. I’d be the same way the first time doing that especially down low.
@@micahatc I know... I was messing with him... See the LOL at the end... Down low = no glide distance / over water = nowhere to go.

Great video. This has brought back so many memories. I was based at Vero Beach in the late 90's and used to fly in most days to Fort Pierce for breakfast at the Tiki Bar. I was watching this with my son Rory (who also loves your videos) and I said to him that I really recognise it and thought it was Fort Pierce. As soon as I heard Fort Pierce Tower I knew it was!! Thank you so much for making these videos, we really look forward to every video 😀

You make these flights look easy, but they aren't actually easy. It's cool that you leave some of the "I'm feel'n better now" moments in there. Those make it real. Great vid.

Glad you two were able to come down and spend some time in paradise. We went to Key West this past Thanksgiving week. We live in the Clearwater/St Pete FL area so our beaches are usually rated some of the best in the world. As always, great videos and I appreciate how you explain the in and outs of your flights in a way even us jet mech "Ground pounders" can understand.
