In this video, I weld some steel plate to the deck after finding a new hole. I also continue to paint the cabin. And it’s moving day, so Linda is heading to Ware.
Good to see the New River get a mention and a view. Over 400 years old, 25 miles long and a marvelous feat of engineering, still supplying 10% of Londons drinking water, all by gravity - no pumps along its entire length.
I discovered that they pump spring water into the new river along the route and it’s amazing. I discover this in a previous video. This one. czcams.com/video/2l6RR9w1AqA/video.html
@@canicebannon Fabrication wins hands down, but yours and Wills channel is probably the only channels I watch with the cruising. I think its the quips.

Every time you lower the leeboard with the winch in gear I hold my breath. It's far safer to disengage the gear and use the brake. If you slip or otherwise come into contact with the spinning wheel ..... As always love to see your films. I know! I stand quite clear. There is also a bit of CZcams drama going on when I let the winch go! Jan you cut up my mast! I’m coming back in a week and I’m hoping to visit The Rat again. I’ve always regretted I didn’t do a better video. Hopefully see you soon..
Fabulous video again! Wesley and I are back in the area and happened to be staying near Ware last night! We had a little stroll down the river today. Linda is coming along beautifully, the videos just don’t seem to capture how truly magnificent she is! Can’t wait to bump into her again!
Ssshhhh you’ve seen the new paintjob! No spoilers! I have tried to film her in a more flattering light this week because of what you’ve told me before. In fact the reason I’m painting her is because you were to first to tell me she looks better in the flesh, and others have turned up since and said the same thing. I want to do right by Linda!😂
@@canicebannon would we do that to you??? It’s a brave choice! Not all Dutch barges could carry off that particular shade of lime green! I’m not sure she needed the “mystery machine” plastering across her leeboards?

[in your best undertaker's voice]: Titan among Tipulidae, magnificent among May Flies, Clifford shuffled off this mortal coil somewhat short of the usual 10-15 days, the standard since the Cretaceous. Lured by wet paint, his demise was at very least colourful, and it could be said that in death he truly lost his sea legs. Clifford had only one job, to copulate while flying prior to his natural end, and sadly for him, he failed to accomplish that. We would all like to have that job, but naturally without the consequences. Clifford left us early, but is completely unmourned by farmers and groundskeepers everywhere. When it is said that Clifford was one in a billion, that is probably pretty accurate. Rest in pieces, Clifford.
Maybe he HAD copulated and then decided to relax with some Volatile Organic Compounds! But sadly it got out of hand and before long, he was legless, incoherent and plucked too soon from this world leaving nothing but his lower bowel as a reminder. He was only 27 minutes.
Beautiful photography. Scuppers; I should have noticed that Linda was lacking "scuppers" and what a silly oversight by those that did the previous conversion. I presume that in the original design the hatch covers might have overlapped the deck edge of the boat? Enjoying your blog and my recovery from a quadruple bypass is going well; thanks for your well wishes! Cheers (well maybe I have hold off the strong stuff for a few more weeks).
Quadruple bypass! You’re not messing around! It seams that the reintroduction of leeboards in the 70’s was the problem and it was seen as enough to go with what they did. I was told my Rob, Chris Kabel’s son (the owner) that Chris was an accountant and some of the decisions were based on cost…. This is obvious in areas. The good news is that since the scuppers went in, no more puddles! The deck boards that covered the hatch were canvassed and the water ran off the onto the deck and through the scuttles as you’d expect. But there were no leeboards from 1930 - 1975’ish. Diesel power in those years. So the scuttle were probably doing the job just fine…. Hope you’re having a speedy recovery and you will be back to the hard stuff in no time now that the limescale has been cleared from the plumbing! Modern medicine is amazing!
Hi, why don’t you put a hight measuring stick on the very front of Linda at the same hight as the highest point of Linda at the back. A bendable stick would be best. If that marker at the front of the boat goes under then you will know all off Linda will go under the bridge if not you will know the exact amount of hight you are out. Love your vlogs
Hi Connor. Well, it turns out that when you fill the water tanks with the draft changes, but a new one is that the front of the boat rises out of the water and back sinks lower. The result would be that the measuring stick would say nope, but in fact the boat could get through. The best policy is to take it slow and learn from experience…. By bashing things.😂
Loved the opening with you whistling the tune from The River Kwai…..that is dating me 😔. Great music and exceptional editing throughout. Thanks for the welding. I do love the possibility of a fire or burnt out eyes like Michael’s. I was afraid if you hit the bridge the baby in the stroller was going to be air-born. Love that you have people that recognize you and Linda on the River. Jorja is looking good also. Thanks for an extra long video. Have a good week. 🙏😊Kathy
I was looking at the edit and thought, too short to just release as just a working on stuff video, so I started the edit of the move and thought, I’ll give you both! Of all the injuries and accidents I’ve caused I’ve never got arc eye from the welding. That’s something, I suppose. Thanks for watching Kathy!
Great vlog loving the nice white roof and dead bodies. Beautiful countryside in Herts. At the end, I see Gandalf has got himself a bicycle and not a horse at 25.36. 👍🏻
Why are you the only one that has to move so often. Haven't seen any other barges in motion. Does Linda have an ankle bracelet that notifies the canal police of your relocations ? Cheers, otherwise.
Canice as water management seems to be an issue on older barges and we can rule out design water flow given the size of the holes found currently, can you show or explain what your doing to prevent future issues? I see the plate over and larger holes but current boats as I know them use scuppers that follow a crown designed into the boat that acts like a gutter to remove water from the deck of a boat...
Yes to all you’ve said. What’s going to happen is when I finish the welding and paint everything I’m going to pump water over the deck and show how the water disappears through the scuppers. However, the problem was that the Leeboards were reinstalled in 1975 (I think) and the holes they installed to allow the water down the deck were too small and blocked up. All I’ve done is bypassed the leeboards by putting a scupper either side. Also Linda isn’t a banana shaped boat. It’s flat with an up lift at the front and rear. Banana shaped boats are more sought after and expensive as a result. The water flow is much better on a banana shaped boat.
