    I love this movie. It makes me so angry that the butthurt Star Wars fans tried to tank it just because Rian Johnson is the director. When Blanc gets tender and tells Marta she didn't kill Harlan and that she is a good nurse, that gets me every time.
    Some thing you might have missed. When Blanc first meets Marta he looks down at her feet. There is a drop of blood on her shoe that she hasn't noticed. All throughout the film Blanc says things like "the game is afoot, eh Watson". He knew she was involved and since she couldn't lie, he kept her around, it is also why he calls her Watson since Sherlock Holmes says "The game is afoot".

    My favorite touch in this movie is the playing of Gordon Lightfoot's Sundown in the sausage and beans scene. You have to understand the background behind the song. The subject of the song is Lightfoot's girlfriend at the time, Kathy Smith. Years later after they had broken up Smith took up with John Belushi. She was with him at a bungalow at the Beverly Hills Hotel when he died. She injected him with a speedball that he overdosed on and spent eight years in prison for manslaughter as a result. So you have a song about a woman who accidentally kills a celebrity with an overdose in a movie about a woman who thinks she accidentally killed a celebrity with an overdose.

    I remembered what Harlan said about Ransom, “He plays life like it’s a game without consequences until you can no longer tell the difference between a stage prop and a real knife.” Brilliant foreshadowing!
    when Marta threw up on Ransom that was actually baby food mixed with water. Knowing that makes it easier to watch.
    The movie was an homage to Agatha Christie novels. Have you read Agatha Christie? Her works broke the rules of the mystery genre; she became known as The Queen of Crime. Her novels go from 1920-1970s.
    Actress who played Marta gave a phenomenal performance! Glad they cut away to her reaction to the suicide; the look of horror on her face was outstanding!
    Like Blanc said, Harlan’s demise was the result of “a tragedy of errors.” When he pointed out how Marta could visually spot the differences between the morphine and the correct medication, he said it so quickly. Needed subtitles for that.
    You’ll enjoy Glass Onion as well. Coming to Netflix on Dec 23!

      There's two movie genres at work here. The first is the classic Agatha Christie murder mystery. You get introduced to a murder and to the characters. And the audience expects it to follow the typical format of a mystery where they try to solve it. About a quarter of the way in, you see exactly how Harlan dies, and it turns into a crime movie, where the audience cheers for the criminal protaganist, and hopes that Marta get away with it. And right at the end, Rian Johnson changes the genre again, having tricked the audience and reveals that it has indeed been a murder mystery the whole time. It's genius. Because audiences know both of these genres, they're familiar with how they work. But they're not consciously aware that the genre is being changed on them.

    • @baoho6922
      @baoho6922 Před rokem

      I pretty much had it, I knew someone switched the medicines as soon as it happened because Harlan showed non of the symptoms she was describing, and obviously someone had to have switched the medication and take the Nalaxone. And later it just seemed obvious Randsome was probably the one who'd done it.

    • @dapaintbrush6965
      @dapaintbrush6965 Před 3 měsíci

      @silverkyre as I've said with these movies or video games. Everyone can figure it out with ease or they won't like me for example. I thought it was him then my mind switched to someone else then back and forth. Also I think she didn't notice the symptoms because he kept trying to ask her questions and not let her say anything. She had to listen to him. Plus if he had the good stuff plenty of times before it might take longer to kick is as he's use to it already. So many things you can think of that changes your mind on things.

      @@accordgolfer Then we clearly didn't watch the same movie.
      I saw someone surrounded by self-serving family who, while certainly not entirely selfless, at least saw Marta as a person and not a conversation piece or a means to win an argument.
      Did you pay attention during the call between Meg and Marta? Meg look miserable the entire time. She clearly didn't want to be doing it, but her family made her because they knew she was the only family member whose call Marta would answer.
      But no, you're right. She was just greedy and selfish. Never did a single thing kind or decent for Marta.
      Sit down. You're done.
