    This generation of NVIDIA GPUs has been an odd one. With confusing names, questionable VRAM amounts, and high price tags, picking a GPU to power your system took a bit of research. With the new Super cards here, does Adam think this makes your choice a little easier or even MORE convoluted?

Instead of buying a 4070 super for 600 they gonna give nivida 200 dollars more because they think they need 16gb vram. Short sighted shilling doesn't realise they are actually giving nivida more money from it. The RX 7600 XT is 128-bit bus unlike 192-bit that Adam mentioned. Also the reason Nvidia can't put 16GB on the 4070/4070Ti/4070Super is because they use the AD104 which has a 192-bit memory bus. Since memory size determined by (bus width/32-bit)*(VRAM chip size) you can only have 6GB/12GB/24GB on a 192-bit bus. They sure as hell won't put 24GB on a 4070 Super.

    _RTX_ _4070_ _Super_ is AU$1100-AU$1300 while _RX_ _7800_ _XT_ is AU$800-AU$900. So, for AU$300-AU$400 more the _4070S_ only nets 10-20fps higher in specific games, and also has better raytracing performance. Although, most raytraced games still require DLSS frame generation to go above 60fps. Pricing also makes little sense currently given US$600 is AU$912 + 10% GST = AU$1003. So, the extra AU$200 somehow comes out of shipping and custom cards. As usual new GPUs are overpriced on release day.

      Actually, HUB did a cost per frame calculation and found that the 4070 Super is just a tiny bit more expensive than the 7800 XT (30-ish cents) but much cheaper than the regular 4070. Take it as you will. We were on the fence between the 7800 XT and the 4070 Super for my bro's next rig. We were this close to get the 7800 XT until I saw the benches and say, "yeah, OK, the overall gains plus the performance advantage in RT, if needed, for the extra cash is kind of worth it." Don't get me wrong I love how powerful my new laptop is but looking at the numbers of all of the GPUs, it's disheartening to know the power difference between a 140w rtx 4060 and everything else...
    The only reason I got this new laptop was because it was close to 1k compared to most other laptops that were still $1,500 or more...

Remember when they had to offer those $100 gift cards and free ram to make it somewhat enticing for the regular 4070? They'll need to do that for the super too. the reports from moore's law is dead suggests it isn't selling well

      They boxed themselves in when they only gave the AD104 die a 192 bit bus. Their options were to move it to AD103, do a 24gb clamshell, cut the bus down to 160-bit and do a 20gb clamshell (as on the RTX 4000 Ada), wait to do a refresh until higher density memory to becomes available (I think I heard rumor of 3GB GDDR6 chips?) ...or just leave it at 12gb.
      They probably don't want to cut down AD103 that much, don't want AI buyers to get this for cheap VRAM instead of a 4090 or a Quadro, and don't want to wait on GDDR6 chips that may not even becoming, so it gets stuck with the last option; have the marketing guys go yell really loud about how you don't need it anyway because DLSS or something.

    All these channels are having different opinions on Ram. Jayz doesn't think VRAM is important and that these cards have enough. GamersNexus thinks the amount is right. LTT thinks it isn't enough VRAM. For me Halo Infinite needs more, as the slider says. When I alter my setting I have the FPS I need all the time. If I don't exceed the VRAM target, if I do then suddenly I have major stutter, but ok frames. Maybe faster ram would fix this, but certainly more will fix it. I don't understand why Small reviewers and LMG agree, MORE RAM, but other big reviewers find the ram satisfactory. Personally I am fine with the ram if they drop the price $200-$400 dependent on model.

    • @isakjetbean
      @isakjetbean Před 5 měsíci +4

      I think LTT take in more factors in general when forming their opinion.
      Linus said it so well on The WAN Show, but having the extra VRAM might not make sense for every gamer, but it certainly makes a difference to people who do other things, like video editing and VFX on their computer, and have a dual-purpose rig.
      We're also in an age where consoles have 16gb shared memory, so yeah while they're not using all of it because it's shared, developers are absolutely going to be trying to optimize their experiences with that in mind.
      Biggest mistake I made was getting the 10gb version of the 3080. Extra VRAM makes the cards more appealing to a wider market and offers better long-term usability.

    • @SolidSt8Dj
      @SolidSt8Dj Před 5 měsíci

      New consoles (XSX, PS5) have 16gb of shared ram and vram. This means games nowadays can, *in theory* take up to 16gb of VRAM. Give it some buffer for the PC version having better textures, effects, etc. and you have your reasoning for why many say 16gb is the target.
      In reality, you can get away with 12gb and still run everything at max or near max, but how long that lasts is hard to say - this is why places like HardwareUnboxed say 12gb as a minimum.

      More VRAM = More cost
      More cost = less margins
      They want to condition us to accept lower standards

      7800 XT is cheaper and 16GB VRAM. Stick with AMD
