Thanks! Rudeism and I are actually friends - I'm trying to convince him to convert the gyro glove he built for Jedi: Fallen Order into a controller for Spin Rhythm, but he's so swamped with other projects it may be awhile.
I initially tried using MIDI, but at the time I made this Spin Rhythm's MIDI support wasn't great. Switching to keyboard + mouse emulation made for a more responsive controller. That being said, the code is open source! You are welcome to fork the GitHub repo and change the output to MIDI if you'd like.
Damn now this makes me want to mod my dj hero controller from xbox days with my programming knowledge i got while getting my cybersec and computer programming degrees lmfaoooo
It's hard to say. You wouldn't need the microcontroller, but because both the 'vanilla' controller and the emulated outputs would be seen by the computer simultaneously the game might fight you as both inputs are activate at the same time. The developers said they had difficulty adapting the Xbox/PS3 versions to the game, so I'm also guessing the USB output data is not as straight-forward as when talking to the Wii version directly.
The Wii version has a lower level hardware interface (I2C) that makes it easy to get the data out of the controller. The PS3 and Xbox versions use higher level interfaces which are more costly to work with and introduce more latency.
This is a crazy idea. I want to see this get upgraded and be made into an actual product!

Man, if only these mappings were for midi so we could use the DJH turntables for music apps.

do you think you'd ever consider selling kits for the more hardware/electronicly inept of us who'd love to try this sort of thing out?
I haven't given it much thought to be honest, but I'm not sure it would be economical.
