    Harsh reality is if you are in the good books of ur manager and always say yes to him no matter the scenario is.. you will get good rating.. otherwise managers are smart enough to pin point ur faults despite working hard..

    My suggestion is not to expect anything from the performance appraisal. Most of the time it hurts compared to encouragement. Most of the Indian managers don't have Hobbit of appreciation. Don't fall in that trap.😳😳

    What I learned is even if you perform they don't agree , Even if you put numbers they don't agree. They just want you to settle for less . It's that simple.

    Observation is valid at manager level . However there are many factors affecting appraisal beyond manager level in many cases though the manager may give a good rating.
    Below are few examples:
    1.. if an entire process elsewhere is snatched by a competitor even few months before appraisal than to balance the loss no one gets anything extra that year though they may have performed. At least the amount to be given can be slashed off significantly.
    2...there are companies who declare in their rules that increment may or may not be given at year end irrespective of performance. I have seen people achieving above 100 percent performance in every month and still get nothing. They ultimately leave jobs and the exit interview discussion becomes useless.
    3.. Some companies give opportunity to some employees for promotion BUT at existing salary without rise telling them expect it to increase after a year. Here the employee is exploited like a door mat with work and working hours increased in same salary.
    Improvement in approaches are certainly required.

    Another unfortunate point. I am working in a big tech firm. Many times you just need good relationship with managers to get promotions. Just get him/her to lunches and evening coffees and spend time with the manager and you will be promoted. There is a lot of office politics involved and sometimes managers even destroy the careers of most brilliant to accomodate their 'Chosen' average or below average employee.

      I work for literally the best corporate company you could work in NCR. The level of politics we see in daily basis is astounding. I never believed such rumours in the past but after spending well above 5 years now I understand, no matter how well you do in your work you gotta be after your manager and do that quote and quote “ Chamsagiri.” Despite of doing well, this year they gave me minimal hike and when I asked for explanation they said I am already well above my pay grade and can’t give too much hike lol. I am quitting the job soon.

    I have experienced the same. My Mgr already knew what ques I would ask her and was already prepared with answers. No wonder every point of hers was apt and I had no option but to agree with her.

    I disagree to agree. Many M they don't really evaluate the real work of development. They belive in the fake show up, interested in self marketing people. Honesty is expensive, so.

    There is no point in having any appraisal discussion. Managers already have decided before hand what has be given and just keep arguing and giving excuses.
    Once, I was told I cannot be promoted and someone else has to be promoted because that someone has two children.
    The way some of these managers talk is horrendous. Forget the manager, one does not even feel like respecting the position.

      You have 10 years of teaching experience,why not continue in teaching line. If it is about salary,then join some edtech...they are now-a-days more than IT job. If you want to come in IT job, you have to start with zero because in 10 years many many things new tech has been introduced.

    Usually I see in US market, every department and every manager has a prefixed budget for yearly appraisal. Way before the yearly appraisal, managers know how to adjust everyone within that budget. So everything is formality then on.
    I have been in teams, where say manager knew, two of the resources got their Green Card this year, so all the budget was spent to retain them, rest just got peanuts, dint matter how good your performance was. Also sometimes managers are hard pressed to use the entire budget, because if they dont then next year they will be pegged at lower level for allocations.

    What do you say to the deceptive and incompetent managers who, despite fully knowing about your contributions, which has been duly communicated, bring in a supervisor who is nowehere to be seen in project only to bluff, lie and demoralize?
    Is this all a hatched plan to ambush?

    My manager didn't put me any projects, however if i get some project due to absence of my colleague or if my colleague unable to complete the project I'm getting those projects, after completion of the project my manager asking me why it took too long to complete this project. but though im completing project within next month once i got project. My heart saying 'my manager is just using me and he didn't consider me as valuable resource' please let me know your thoughts on this

    1) Better be mediocre and leave when you can instead of expecting from these managers.
    2) Your self esteem shouldn't be dependent on their point of view of you.
    3) If someone has already made an image of u in his mind why change it 😅

    I must admit that I have been a touch fortunate in my current workplace.. when i joined in 2020 during CoVID
    I got a single digit hike 6 months after joining, double digit hike in the second appraisal, double digit hike with promotion in the 3rd appraisal.. My manager is quite considerate and empathetic.
    Prior to this in several companies which I worked, absolutely no recognition whatsoever and in return, only negative reviews and no hikes.. I was even placed into a PIP in one of the companies..
    Things do change for the good.. just need to keep going🙏🙏

    Sir, what if you worked hard but couldn't get above average or on A list. And then Performance Review is done but still raise is not given and there is a reason of not much profitability in business. As an employee what to do? Should I leave the company in near future or what?

      Hi Sumitha, It is the same for more or less everyone. Appraisals are done based on the KRAs set at the beginning of the year.

    Around 2009 I remember running to Bangalore and uk next day of marriage. When I landed in uk , i slowly realise the terrible requirement gathering. Slowly work increased and i as tech lead worked Saturday Sunday's to complete the implement. It was actually 10-15 people doing with 5-6 people . In the end I was pacified that I am in uk and they have to give good rating to offshore india guys so got 3 rating . In the process I was not promoted. It was cheating . It's my mistake. Insurance agent when they could not sell their product but able to sell to me saying they need to meet the target. That year all my colleague got promoted I was not. And also got diabetes during the project. After that never got promotion, i see myself slowly entering into low middle status where i started when salary increase few percentage every year. It become slow realisation we are working with very mean minded people. It is a grand loot of labour

World is not fair, employer are determined to control and enslave us, by innovating unethical systems and strategy to accomplish it. We must counter with legal and ethical approach!

    I need your help. I am a 2021 graduate and joined a mnc in 2021, after 6 months of training I have been in 2 different projects for 3 months each which were about to end and no work remains there so I got no task there. After that I am again in a project from last 2 months but still not getting a task even not added to any team. I talked with the project manager and home manager regarding the same but no help from their side. I am confused about this situation and don't know how to react. I am thinking about switching but don't know what I will tell in the interview what experience I gained in my 1.5 years of working. I am using my time to learn new tech and completing certification.

    Why promotions are not transparent in IT company ? Managers ? Who will evaluate him ? What if manager is not willing to promote ? And whatever Hard work done by employee goes waste on behalf of him some one else is taking promotion and creating a bad work culture and makes an employee to leave present company

    All service company mangers have 3 catagories
    1. Ass licker ( worst performer) best rating
    2. Escapist ( midium performer) medium rating
    3. Hard worker ( top performer not ass licker) either meium ot lowest if project is ending and ned to be fired ( so manager can grab credit)

    Even so called Managers do not perform their duties upto thier potential.... Managers are usually there to give technical guidance to their reportees... But majority of them just do time pass and fool around.. In short, no accountability from their side on their duties....

    Hi Sir, I am working for Infosys as a contractor and I got an offer from Infosys for full time employment. Initially offer was processed for January 5 and couldn't able to join due my LWD issue with my vendor company. Got an update from Infosys that they will process my offer letter with updated doj based on LWD confirmation from my vendor company. I am still waiting for the LWD mail.     My scenerio:
    I joined a company recently it is hardly 1 month
    I don't want to continue in the current company.
    I don't like the work environment and totally gossips and politics are going internally.
    Everyone in the company are mocking and bullying me.
    I hardly hold below years of experience
    Company 1 : 2019 Jan - aug 2019
    Company 2: 2019 dec - Jun 2020
    Company 3: 2021 Feb - July 2022
    Company 4: Jan 2023 - present
    I don't want to continue in company 4
    How to cleverly update resume get offer and move out of this current company 4.
    Way 1: resume listed with companies except company 4th
    Way 2: resume listed with all 4 companies including current 4th company
    Normally my Current working company 4th, has 60 days notice period mentioned in the offer letter or salary lieu
    I am in probation period and my current company has 6 months probation period.
    But They didn't mention about notice period during the probation period
    I should cleverly get job offer and resign this company.

    Appraisals nowadays are not good enough. I achieved 150% of my KPI last year and this year as well. But there’s no use of achieving it because my KPI form only 30% part of entire appraisal and remaining 70% is given by so called managers on different other aspects (behaviour, process improvement and all other bullshit things which are not even applicable to the level which the employee is in). Now even if I am in good books of my manager there is one more person on top of him called reviewer (super boss). My 150% achievement is eventually reduced to 70-80% because of this.
    So, in a nutshell 70% will be bias based. Gone is the scope to grow!!
