Hyundai Genesis mirror not folding fix

- A how to video on how to fix a non folding or clicking side mirror on a 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan. This will help you save over $1k. There is a small plastic gear in the motor that needs to be replaced due to it cracking. I will list the replacement part below that cost about $45 with shipping. Be careful when pulling out connectors from behind the mirror. They can break as one of mine did. Have patience, be organized, and enjoy saving some money. Like always, if you choose to do this project it is at your own risk.

Thanks Caneswag, the instructions were great. Just a couple of comments to help other who watch it, as the instructions for putting in back together were a little less detailed. 1. Don't forget to reattach the red to the crew on the gear housing. 2. Remember to reattach the wire to the turn signal before bolting the motor back in place.

Great video. I fixed mine today with a friend helping me. It took long time. For mirror I used plastic pry to get it out. Most difficult part is to remove the outer plastic rim for me. Happy to have it done.

I am so grateful for this video - thanks - detailed professional and easy to follow.I just completed the job in under 3 hours - if the passeneger mirror does the same thing, I think I can halve that now I know what to do. The best tip was keeping everything separated, so I knew which screws needed to go back where when putting things back together. I was also quoted $1000 +++ by dealership as I needed a new complete Mirror Housing, apparently!!!!! Thanks again.

Terrific video. I asked the Genesis dealer what you idk cost and was told $1,500 + 7% tax. I found this video and ordered two gears from Amazon for a total cost of under $15. My wife eats a cup of yogurt every day so I grabbed several small plastic containers and labeled and filled them in the order you instructed and later reversed the process with nothing left over. Including a few incidentals such as lithium grease total project well under $20 and I have a gear for the passenger side. I had no idea there was so much inside a modern rear view mirror . Thanks.

Successfully swapped out the gear yesterday, total time was about 1:15 minutes. Thank goodness 🙏 I was so tired of not being able to fold my mirrors or hearing that annoying clicking sound when I would accidentally hit the button to fold in the mirrors.

My Equus is having the same issue, but since the mirrors are out I'll just don't fold them in anymore. Great video Swag, I got so many other things to take care of this is one I'll wait and see.

I also followed the video and replaced the broken retracting gear today. Gear was slipping on shaft. I Did break a retainer tab on the mirror mount but it works okay. I'm not sure how you get around that. Took three hours. Reassembly went quicker than I expected. Tried screwing motor ground wire into wrong hole. I'm taking my wife to Whataburger to celebrate $1000+ savings!

Great video, fixed the gear only problem I found a 2x6 mm star head screw in the housing when reassembling,any idea where it came from?

Thank for the video really helped out a lot replaced the big gear today and put it back together it still didn’t work and I don’t hear any noise any suggestion what the cause is

Thank you. Should be the same part. I do not think the folding mechanism changed from 15/16 to 17 model. You will have to open it up to make sure. If it matches, I would order two because the other mirror will go out eventually. Happened to me
Hey! I have the same model just like you. I’ve been having issues when I am coming to a stop & the rpm’s will tend to drop & jump back up. Almost like the throttle body is dirty or something. I would to love to take a video of the issue & show you what it does
It could be quite a few things. I would take it to a trusted mechanic and have them diagnose it. I have not had this issue with mine. Thx for the view!!!

What website did you use to order the part. Also have you had a problem with the sunroof mine got stuck opened and had to force it closed. Just seeing if you’ve come across this.
Part was ordered from Amazon. Have not had the sunroof problem yet.
hello sir just watched all ur videos related to genesis, great instructions, i have a genesis g80 the auto dimming of the driver side mirror has stopped , i don't think it is the fuse because there is no light or something the mirror tilts and move what do u think does the mirror part needs to be replaced or is it some sensor itself
Did you recently tint your windows? If yes, that could be what is going on.

Basically the same thing. Puddle light unplugs from the assembly on the inside of mirror and you just plug a new one in. Hope this helps.

It would pretty much be the same as changing the gears. Order a new puddle light and replace it.

I’ve followed all the step and I was able to fix it. But I had an issue with cery slow mirror movement side to side. And on auto tilt on reverse it tilts ok but it stuck tilted and doesn’t return back to the position it was. Could you please advice how to fix this issue as it wasn’t there before.
Try moving mirror around with your hand all the way up and to each side. Also might have to take mirror off and put back on. Make sure it is centered

You can order a new mirror, but it's not cheap, and you will have to get it painted. Easy to swap out mirror, but pricey!
When yours initially broke, could you still hear the mirror motor whirring it just wasn’t catching?
First noise was the clicking. Then after that, I could hear the motor, but it wasn't catching.
and besides the fact that the mirror did not fold, did the floor lighting from the lantern work?

hello there i fixed my thank you one problem. concerning step one when removing mirror after i put all together i cannot adjust the mirror. it is stuck at the position when i removed it.
is there a way to unstuck it please let me know i do not want to force it in place i am afraid it may break. thanks
Try to move the mirror around with your hand and place in the middle. Then try it with the controls.

basically I got the same car 2014 , ordered it from the US, I was in Ukraine and because of the war I ran away and took my car with me , as for now I have to do everything by myself ,except for the oil change ,I have the trunk problem , and I had dead driver rear view mirror, plus a list of few, but weird problems , I know how to do a lot of things with this car, but there are uncommon problems and maybe u know something.about it

Would you happen to know the exact name or part number for the phillip head tip that connects the inner window molding to the door frame? While doing this project for the mirror, I noticed that I'm missing those screws on both doors, and my OCD is now drovong me crazy.
If it's the plastic one that you first pull out, you might be able to replace it with a regular push pin.

I am not aware of a mirror camera. Do you mean the back up camera?

I would look at replacing the camera. It's not expensive and pretty easy to do. Or also see if the connection is loose. Camera is located next to the rubber trunk release button.
Do u mean ( mirror camera,) or ( rear view,) reverse camera.? If u meant the reverse camera, i had the same blue screen problem, & had to change the camera.!
Hey i took everything out and got to the gears but neither of them were broken, the issue in the first place was that the mirror doesnt fold but i could hear the gears moving. What could the specific issue be?
Even the smallest crack in the gear will cause them not to fold. I would change out the gears and see if it works after that. You shouldn't hear the gears moving.
Hey there, love the video! I'm having this issue with my passenger mirror and Hyundai has quoted me $1800.00 because they said the whole assembly needs to be changed. Would you think that the motor shown in the video will solve that issue? My blind side detection is gone as well and the dealership has said that they wont be able to diagnose it until the mirror is fixed because they are connected. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Is your gear broken? I'm not sure about the BSD.
@CaneSwag83-01 they said that the mirror isnt getting any power. I just purchased the gear on amazon and am going to give it a shot.

Did you end up resolving your Blind spot detection issue? My dealer is telling me the same thing but I don't want to buy the whole assembly if

Have this problem but just ignored it and turned off folding….now mirror assembly is moving at high speed. Do you think it’s more than the big gear now?
If you hear a clicking sound as you unfold mirror that is an indication that the big gear is about to fail. Not sure about the speed.

Everything was plugged back in.

BGE 552 replacement gear on Amazon. It will not say for 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan. It will say Hyundai I30.

I have my Genesis set so the mirror only folds when I want it to fold. (like in a car wash) At this rate, it shouldn't break for another 20 years.
I also turned off the auto-tilt.

Check the gear again. Make sure it goes all the way in. Also look at small gear to see if it is cracked.
