It was basically a drawn game for a long time there but Levon made one wrong move
in my opinion the wrong move was that levon let magnus take that undeveloped rook , and thats why he lost the endgame with, bishop and rook , bcs rook pairs are stronger then rook and bíshop
Levon is one of the most creative players around
This is chess, you can play 100 flawless moves and then mess up everything with one blunder move.

at 9:14 the endgame is typically drawn if the pawns are blockading each other and the defending bishop is of the opponent's pawn
in this case I think it is likely drawn because an endgame without the Rg3, Bf3 and Pg4 is drawn because the pawn is on the h file.
Whatever happens, Levon is also the best!!!

Carlsen is such an endgame monster. Aronian hoped he can trade pawns and then rook vs bishop is usually draw ( rare exceptions exist ), but no such luck against Magnus Carlsen. The way he converted it was elegant too - grabbed the black pawn like almost saying : please, take my rook if you want! 10:52
Of course black did not take it, because white pawn supported by white king will queen easily after that.
Nice endgame by the best endgame player of modern times ( and perhaps the best of all times )
The endgame was a draw, Levon blundered however with Ke4 due to maybe time pressure or carelessness and magnus managed to win, a lot of endgames magnus wins are easy draws, but his opponents come under pressure and blunder, but that's the magnus way, and I guess it's good for him.
The conversion wasnt when he took the pawn lol it was everything leading up to it. No shit aronian cant take back

why did Levon gave up his rook at 3:30 ? he went for knight exchange instead..
Rook doing nothing and that bishop worth alot more then that rook, look how many squares around the king its controlling
Rook is overall the more powerful piece than a bishop, because it can control white and black squares and has more board presence in an ideal state.
A rook with King can checkmate you, while a Bishop with King cannot.
However all of this is irrelevant in a middle position of the game.
There, soly developed pieces and how much they control matter.

Why doesn't Carlsen take the rook at 3:00?
I'm a newbie on chess watching but why do players give up (shake hands) when the game is not totally over yet? Why not just play it out until either the clock hits zero or there is a real chess mate?
Because it makes no sense to continue. The result would just be the same. And in some point, players don't want to be cornered or mated that much.

the pawn means checkmate, because King (King cant reach it, because it protected by other King) never can stop it from tranfering into a Queen.
