    Kevin is the beatboxer. Matt is the current bass, taking Avi’s place in 2017. They spent $400. making this in one of their apartments, and won a Grammy for it. Super talented group!

      Spent $400 filming and recording sound, because their studio day fell through, But it was professionally edited and mixed after that.

    • @charlottevan_8
      @charlottevan_8 Před 3 měsíci

      @@thechomiji Actually, they didn't record or film this themselves. This was recorded in a closet in Avi and Kevin's shared LA apartment, and the video shot in their kitchen with black sheets hung behind them. As with many of their subsequent videos, the filming, recording, and editing was all done by FifGen Films. This industry article interviewing Jimmy Bates of FifGen gives the lowdown on how this happened, and how they all had to shift gears quickly when the original plan fell through. strobist.blogspot.com/2013/11/pentatonix-daft-punk-video-low-budget.html

    This was my first Pentatonix song! Our daughter sent it to me because she thought I might like it. I did, but it wasn't until he pandemic lockdown that I really came to value its mood-lifting awesomeness, and looked into their other music. You called beatboxer Kevin "Matt" - so, now you should check out some more recent music that includes the actual Matt! For an anthem comparable to Hallelujah, try Amazing Grace. For another club banger medley, try the 90s Dance Medley. Subscribing for more Pentatonix!

    @margretrosenberg420 Před rokem +3

    You can't go wrong with anything from Pentatonix, but here are my recommendations:
    • Think of a song you don't like, either because you've heard it too many times or because you've heard too many bad covers of it. Type the name of that song into CZcams's search engine, but add either "PTX" or "Pentatonix." If they've performed it, that will find their version of it. Once you find a song you dislike that Pentatonix has performed, listen to Pentatonix's version of it. It will likely become your new favorite.
    Some of *my* favorites are:
    • "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" (their second Grammy winner)
    • "Jolene" (Performed with Dolly Parton, still gorgeous at the age of 71. This was their third Grammy winner. It was the first time *Dolly* ever won a Grammy for "Jolene"!)
    • "Imagine." (Be sure to watch the official video - it's the visual effects that make this one an upgrade instead of a cover, and those can't be duplicated live. Also, be sure to watch it all the way to the end - it's easy to think it's over before it actually is.)
    • "The Prayer."
    • "O Come All Ye Faithful." (Yes, I know that's a Christmas song. Doesn't matter. You'll love it year-round.)
    • "Seasons of Love."
    • "Bohemian Rhapsody."
    • "Sound of Silence."
    • "Thank You." (Written by Scott and his fiancee Mark Manio during or just after COVID lockdown. Not a cappella - Scott plays piano and Kevin plays cello. Gorgeous love song.)
    • "Havana."
    • "Prayers For This World."

    • @Gwennedd
      @Gwennedd Před rokem +2

      Awesome list! To which I'll add: Shallow, Perfect, Be My Eyes, Dreams and Say Something.

    • @margretrosenberg420
      @margretrosenberg420 Před rokem

      I should add that "Prayers For This World" is also not a cappella. It's from their 2022 Christmas album, _Holidays Around The World,_ which had as its theme collaborations with artists from other countries and on other continents, most of which had to be done long distance due to travel restrictions because of the pandemic. So most of the songs on the album include instruments, and those instruments aren't obvious on the official video the way they normally are when it's Pentatonix playing the instruments themselves or doing an in-person collaboration.

A really fun one to react to, would Can’t Hold Us, an early offering that was the beginning of their use of an actual production company. There’s even a behind-the-scenes video to go with it. VoicePlay, another a cappella group you've reacted to, just released their newest video, Valhalla Calling. It's a sequel to their My Mother Told Me video, both with Viking roots. While it doesn't really matter what order you view them in, I'd still recommend My Mother followed closely by Valhalla - I don't think you'll be disappointed in either!
    For PTX: try one that's a little off the beaten path - Come Along.

    Yep, like a lot of other people have probably already said - they only spent $400 (pre-production, i.e. on makeup costumes, contacts, and the like), and thanks to a last-minute fall-through with their original filming location the video was filmed in Kevin and Avi's kitchen (they were sharing an apartment/house? at the time) and the sound was apparently recorded in one of the closets in the house as well. One thing that even a lot of Pentaholics don't know is that the first Grammy Award Pentatonix received - "Best Arrangement, Instrumental, or A Cappella," was essentially changed in order to give it to them. Up until 2015 (the year they first won it), the award had always been for "Best Instrumental," "Best Instrumental Arrangement," or some variation thereof, since 1963. The award category was essentially changed in order to award PTX with their first Grammy.
