I've had the Simple Human trash can for many years and it still functions perfectly and because the lid closes so efficiently and keeps odor in, it keeps the dog out of it. Well worth the price if you can swing it

Funnily enough, this review popped up in my feed 2 hours after my Simplehuman trash can broke. I bought it on sale at TJ Maxx about 15 years ago. I paid, if I remember correctly, about $60. It has worked faithfully all these years, and now has some problems with the hinge. My husband managed to fix it for the time being, but it's time to start looking for a deal on another one. My requirements for buying the first one were that it had to be wide enough to hold family-size meat trays from the supermarket, have a way to secure the bag inside, have a removable liner, and keep our Border Collie from getting into the trash. The bonus feature you didn't mention was the very handy little button that keeps the lid open when you slide it forward.

Our Simplehuman 55-Liter Rectangular Step Trash Can with Liner Pocket is definitely worth the money we paid for it. The pedal that opens the lid goes all the way across the bottom instead of being a small piece. It's a great design, and we've used it over two years with no problems at all.

I can back the recommendation on this one. I got sick of replacing the cheap plastic ones when the foot pedal inevitably broke, so I decided to see if you get what you pay for in trash cans. I got this on sale plus a 20% off coupon at Bed Bath & Beyond. That was 10 years ago, and it still works like it's brand new, and I never have to fuss with it. Like any pedal-operated can, it does get pushed backward over time, but since it's fairly heavy, it doesn't do it as fast; I usually just move it back into place when I take out the trash. It is ridiculously overpriced at retail, but find it on sale and it's worth it.

We had simplehuman trashcans at my old ice cream shop and they are fantastic. There's other pros they didn't mention. 10 year warranty. If the can broke (was always the step to open function with the general public using it) I could take it to Bed Bath & Beyond for a free replacement and they handled the warranty claim. The liners. They sell trash bags that are perfectly sized for the cans. You don't have to deal with standard grocery store bags being too big and slipping down in the can. They're a little pricier, but worth it imo. Bed Bath & Beyond used to have their $29/year membership (RIP) that gave you 20% off all purchases and that paid for itself in trash bags for my store.

The issue I see hear with the complicated, bulky trash bins are just that, they're not as versatile. I have a cheap plastic trash bin and although I wish it had a lid, especially during summer days, I also like that its convenient. If I need to take it away from the kitchen and move it around the house on the occasion that I'm cleaning trash from other rooms, I can. After considering the pricing, I think I'm okay with just replacing my now cracked plastic trash bin with the exact same kind.

Nope, don’t like foot pedal ones anymore. The only thing their “winner” has over the other foot pedal cans is the fact that the sides are straight. The sides of the cans that angle up towards the lid are hideous. Step on that pedal a couple of times and the bottom of the can scoots back to the wall. Eventually the lid won’t open because the wall prohibits it. Annoys me something fierce!

Heirloom quality trash can. Spend the kids inheritance, pass it down to them.

These never last long. I wish they did a lifespan test. Mine broke after 2 years. Bit expensive for only 2 years

True, there are certain things that need to be tested over time to see how well they hold up.

That's just how he sounds; he's always sounded like that in every episode I've seen him in. It's a very rehearsed style.

The scriptedness and tone of the speakers, especially the woman, was very grating....Offputting. And this also made me go #firstworldproblems

A lot of the trash you’re putting in those cans are things that should be going into the organic recycle bin. Not a real world test

This is starting to be the simple human ad channel....for crying out loud there are other trash cans out there that are just as reliable as simple human with good build quality for much less price....anyone else noticing this!?!? They name dropped simple human almost all the time ..they didn't even say which won or lost the smell test? What was the point of that section!?!

Please stop talking, you should not comment without doing a bit of research. Now unfortunately there is no link to the project testing article in the videos description, what is there is a link to is the ATK website, it's actually the SECOND link (wow very little scrolling), click that link, this next step is a complicated one so pay attention, then in the search bar type "trash cans" or something related to that, from there you will find the article where they describe the test and scrolling down a bit more gives you a chart of sorts with the name, price, pros and cons of each product tested, just like every other products test. "But wait" you say to yourself, "I cannot see this read this article", yes like every company ATK needs money so to read the article you must pay a monthly fee. These aren't ad's, don't be ignorant, if "simple human" comes up so much then they must make good products. ATK is not paid to do these tests by companies if they were then no one would watch these, they stay impartial by having support from their subscribers, the paying kind not the YT kind.

@Braumeister Don't be ignorant ATK is produced in Boston and these aren't segments made for YT ATK makes this for TV then upload clips to YT. If you want full episodes you gotta get TV or become a paid subscriber on their website.

@Braumeister Nope, Daniel's right. This is a segment from an episode of their long-running PBS show. They produce another one called Cook's Country, and this year they've been uploading both to CZcams after a while. The last month or so, they seem to be splitting them up into one video per segment instead of per episode.

You CAN'T be serious!! Anyone who'd pay close to $200 bloody dollars~TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS!! FOR A TRASH CAN!! shouldn't be allowed to have money, as they have NO idea what to do with it and should give it to those who would NEVER pay $200 for a trash can! I just can't imagine. Really? And yet there they are in comments below~paying $200 for a trash can. It beggars belief!
I've been using the same trash can since the '70's. It's plastic. It's white. It holds a garbage bag. I clean it frequently. It cost about 8 bucks and still "works". What the hell else do you need it for.
Since when have bragging rights become what you use as a trash can. This world hurts my head.
