Philemon is the Owner, Igor is the Manager, and the Velvet Room Attendants are the underpaid, Karen-Dealing workers.
Makoto, Kotone, Yu and Joker: Igor, I have a complaint!
@@mamba-do-u _"The _*_Fool_*_ Arcana" eh?..._
@@mamba-do-u I've literally never heard anyone refer to P3's FEMC by her live play name!
@@conspiracypanda1200 there's more debate on her name than Joker in all honesty
@@conspiracypanda1200 They actually reused that name in a mobile game crossover she was in a while back. That's basically her canon name now.
I saw a message in the chat at one point that said “Hitler is Jun’s father. Jun is gay AND European” and I laughed so hard
HA
Is Hitler German in the persona universe? Or was he already an immortal Mayan sorcerer before being the Führer
He should still be german. All that mayan sorcerer stuff only happened because of the rumors coming true, which Nyarlathotep only made happen in 1999 (the year this game takes place). Besides, there’s now the new timeline after this game’s ending, and since the In Lak’ech was never written in that new timeline, the rumor of Hitler being a sorcerer was never spread, so he was never retroactively made one
@@Sk8r115 It’s not ACTUALLY Hitler. It’s just a disguise
@@quack-tastictictac1630 Despite that though, the real Hitler was in-canon a persona user. Igor mentions it if you talk to him at some point.
Tatsuya actually does every sound effect in the game yet people call him a silent protagonist smh
1:07:40 “Let’s go say hi to my brother because for some reason he exists” and then she fell head over heels for him in Eternal Punishment
It's always the ones she never expects at first. XD
the fact that tatsuya's way of expressing his feelings has always been to fiddle with jun's lighter is what makes me love those two being together so much. even if neither of them remembers anything, neither of them can forget that lighter
I can't believe P2 IS made gay people real
It's pretty funny as well because either option is correct. You actually can't be mad whether they're gay or best friends lol. This game is amazing.
Philemon is the reason Igor always says "Welcome to THE Velvet Room," and doesn't refer to it as HIS Velvet Room. Except in 5, but there's good reason for that, of course.
He does, at least in the Japanese. It was voiced by Tanonaka.
I love how the gifts that Tatsuya and Jun gave to each other affected their Personas as Tatsuya got a lighter so he has Volcanus and Jun got a watch so he has Chronos.
Tatsuya is truly the most based protag on the series. Fucks his way to top and makes everyone fall head over heels for him, does a mean motorcycle impression, fist fights super wizard Hitler in the realm of the unconscious mind and doesn’t afraid of anything. Bravo, Tadashi
The Motorcycle impression is probably the most BASED part of him
Like, dude just pulls out a mic with its stand out of nowhere and makes an accurate motorcycle sounds.
8:25 You started the rumor and now we have persona 3 reload.
True That!
Innocent Sin feels like an acid trip at times, but it gave us Eikichi, so it’s automatically the best classic Persona game
Here here!
Eikichi is the greatest character of all time
“Say it to Michel!”
All I needed to love Eikichi was ONE textbox
Not many chracters get bestowed of an honor like that
I can attest to that
Lisa was a decent character I think, but when Ginko was introduced I was immediately attached and for no reason Lisa disappeared
is this a joke
i woke up 2 mins ago this is indecipherable to me
@@mustafaqasimi5122 yes it’s a joke
Yeah it’s pretty weird that they introduced this character and then just abandoned her for the rest of the story. Ginko is great tho so I’m not complaining she took Lisas place
Aren’t they the same person?
@@lucaskincanyon7393 it's a joke
And yeah, P2 IS' plot is wild. Since all rumors come true even wild conspiracy theories come true. So yeah since "Hitler survived," was a pretty popular rumor at the time of this games development, they added it into the game.
Yeah the game actually uses some real-life conspiracy theories, or something similar to them. There is actually theory/old folklore that Jesus Christ didn't die and escaped to Hokkaido, so like the stuff that happens in this game aren't so far from beliefs we have in our world.
this game's take on Y2K is somehow way more logical than YIIK's take, a game entirely focused on Y2K
truly one of the YIIK moments of all time
Tatsuya: Close your Eyes
Also Tatsuya: *Loud Motorcycle noises*
Fun fact about Tatsuya.. this is the first time he fought against Joker, the second is in 5 since he and Shido have the same voice
Tatsuya: damn brat i'll sue
Based comment lol.
Ok great I thought I was hallucinating Keith’s voice 😭
52:00 One of my favorite aspects of Persona 2 is the attention to detail, pretty much every time the "plot progresses" almost every NPC in every map has new dialogue, it foreshadows a bunch of things but is almost all skippable. There's a really sweet plot point with Katsuya, where at first he hears the rumors of the 5 people spotted near the scenes of the explosions, realizes it's Tatsuya, and just kind of tells him to go away, thinking his brother is a criminal but loving him too much to pursue it. But later on, when you tell the kids to tell everyone that you were actually the ones who saved them, Katsuya is smiling when you see him and says that their dad would be proud of him, a girl nearby says that she saw Katsuya watching the news and that when he realized Tatsuya wasn't the criminal he looked so relieved he almost cried.
And this entire subplot is entirely missable, the attention to detail is impeccable.
Sounds like the Trails games
every good rpg does this. big part of the Dragon Quest games too. and ff7 and ff9, i havent replayed 8 recently enough to be sure
Awww that’s adorable 😭
I could not stop laughing at your breakdown when Ms. Ideal spouted all of that plot in the Detective Agency, I forgotten how freaking outlandish it can get, it's a Crystal theory but somehow even crazier.
And that ending, could not stop crying at all
Crystal theorys are the free versions of ms. ideal's theorys
what's even better is that Miss Ideal is straight up WRONG. None of what she was saying was even remotely true.
@@sarafontanini7051 exactly! It ended up being just rumors, and ngl I find it kinda funny that the writers thought up of such a crazy scenario that ended up being a rumor in the end
"I don't know what a German accent sounds like"
Nono, you're doing great, please continue
Like, as a native german speaker, her “Auf Wiedersehen“ was actually pretty good. I have seen people butcher way simpler words way harder
Someone get her to play Ace Attorney. She'll have a ball with Von Karma.
the persona 3 rumor aged well
so I've read this and known this for ages but apparently, since Maya didn't accept her shadow, it kind of implies that really deep down she hasn't forgiven Tatsuya and the rest for locking her in the shrine ☹️
or rather she never accepted that a part of her DID hold something against them thus stunting ehr growth.
Granted I'm not sure that's how that specfic shadow worked in this game, the rules are different here.
That really makes the PSone boxart of both P2 games REALLY hit in a different way. For the first title to introduce shadow selves, it does a DANG good job.
So now hopefully you understand what happened at the end of the P1 manga. Philemon is the representative of all human goodness and the conscious human mind. So he is, in a way, every person all at once. That's why he can grant the persona ability. He *is* persona. Arguably the most powerful being in persona lore.
I wonder if he will ever return in a spinoff or Persona 6
@@supernerd8067 Maybe Jose will take his place ?
@@supernerd8067 I hope at least make him as "human conciousness" or something. I mean damn, we got another plot for why Igor is the velvet room master now, what the hell happened to Philemon
@@snailthelostcow63 didn’t he exile himself to imprison nyarly or was that just a fever dream of mine
Nyx is at least confirmed stronger and Nyarlathotep should be about equal. Also not sure what would happen if like, he faced Universe Makoto or how that works because the Universe is weird.
Besides those exceptions though, perhaps some actual SMT crossover, I do think he is the strongest. He's not unstoppable, Chronos seemed able to trap him in Q after all, but still.
"This is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental." Yeah right.
Fellas, is it gay to exchange mementos and make a promise to keep each other in your hearts forever (in front of what looks like a bridal boutique)?
No.
you have no idea how happy lots of persona fans are that you'd give P2 a shot. Too many people look at the duology and say "eh they look too old, i'll skip them", depite them having the best writing in the series. Thank you for giving these two great games a chance.
@RAYHAN REHEMA PUTRA "mid game"? you've clearly never played it. The duology are the best written games in all of megaten. Yes, the gameplay is turn your brain off easy, but so is P5.
@RAYHAN REHEMA PUTRA It doesn’t need side quests like the later games because it’s not a stupid calendar system game. It’s a different era of JRPGs, and it still stands up better than any other persona games. Just because it’s not as flashy as the later ones, that doesn’t make it bad.
High encounter rate is just a mild annoyance, because it’s so easy to body them.
Cards aren’t an issue either once you know how to do demon talk with the specific ones.
Also P5 is equally as easy, if not moreso than the PSP P2’s
@rayhanrehemaputra1719 it's mid game, but story is legit masterpiece
@RAYHAN REHEMA PUTRA "The game doesn't even challenging". Yeah, I think you never played Eternal Punishment. The difficulty spike is a bit cruel in that one, pretty realistic since it's an all adult casts lmao
@RAYHAN REHEMA PUTRA adding "by fact" doesn't make it a fact. That's not how that works you donut lmao. That's still a subjective take by nature.
When did this clownfoonery start? You can't just add that and boom it's objective fact. Mental gymnastics at its finest. Sheesh.
Normal play: Cure the poison effect.
Crystaahhl play: U can’t be poisoned if ur dead

P2 LET YOU PICK JUN, BROTHERS!
REMEMBER WHAT ATLUS DENIED US!
P4 WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!
Yu and Yosuke could've been what Tatsuya and Jun were, but sadly not, the innocent sin comitted by Atlus will not be forgotten.
I dunno, Tatsuya and Jun seem to have WAY better chemistry than Yu and Yosuke, so I'm not bothered by the fact that the Yosuke route got scrapped.
Actually, can someone please explain to me the appeal of Yu/Yosuke? And in a way that doesn't boil down to "they're both guys"?
@@Anime_CartoonKIAI can try, but I may not be the best person. Having not played Persona 4, but just as somebody who has listened to others talk about it and that particular ship.
Fans of this ship really like to use the word “partner”. Like Yosuke as the right hand man, the person who always has the protagonists back. The first confidant you make. People who think that your romantic relationship should be your best friend.
Weirdly their are a lot parallels between people who ship Yu with Yosuke and Ryuji and Akira shippers.
@@bananamilk8099 But not even Joker/Ryuji got this much pleading from fans who criticize P5. Which means that Yu/Yosuke must've resonated more with P4 fans than J/R to P5 fans, but I still don't see why. (I mean, Yosuke can be pretty annoying sometimes. Even if that route was available to me, I still wouldn't date him.)
Plus I've seen more fans complain that Joker can't date Akechi than Ryuji, and yet Ryuji is supposed to be the Yosuke of that series.
@@Anime_CartoonKIA I've played all Persona games, so I kinda know what shippers are on about. The through-line of Tatsuya/Jun, Yu/Yosuke and Ren/Akechi is Empathy and Support + capital-T Trauma.
Tatsuya and Jun have their shared childhood trauma with everyone in the fire, but they also have their private unbreakable bond to each other as symbolised by the lighter. Jun gets it worse of the pair as he's rumor-brainwash-magiced into being Joker, leading Tatsuya to help save Jun. Childhood friends who have been separated and reunited through a dramatic rescue and now support each other unquestioningly through their shared traumas can be romantic if you wanna look at it like that, so it's popular.
Yu and Yosuke have a similar vibe but in a shorter time span. Both are technically the New Guy in town so they can supposedly relate to each other, and Yosuke especially pushes for any kind of bond at the beginning of the game because he feels he's got no friends (outside of maybe Chie, who keeps kicking his ass). Then Yosuke suddenly goes through the death of his crush and his whole Shadow Self where only Yu and Teddie are around to witness and support him. Again, one guy rescues the other (this time all by himself) and they end up supporting each other unquestioningly. The difference is that the bond is solidified not in a shared childhood, but in the S-Link and other major interactions that develop through the game where Yosuke basically shows just how much he seeks Yu's attention and approval over anyone else. This can be extended into a romance very easily if wanted, which Atlus almost did. The whole "partner" thing is just a bonus.
Imo Ren/Akechi is the one that I shake my head at the most because it's primarily just fans going "I can fix him". Still, Ren and Akechi both have shared traumas caused primarily by Shido and Yaldaboth, but there's a major difference in that they literally can't support each other because they're too different to properly accept the other. Akechi specifically is the problem since he spits on the idea of changing too much and accepting support from Ren, even just as a friend. Royal gives a bit more time to the development of the relationship, but imo it's pretty much another version of Yu vs Adachi but they're in the same age range this time so a relationship is seen as acceptable by fans. People just love the tragic angle of it, I guess, and daydream of a peaceful resolution and blooming relationship that the game's story would never be able to effectively give them without watering down Akechi's whole point as a character.
And then there's Ren/Ryuji. It's kinda got some trauma and support in it, but it's to a far lesser degree because Ryuji just feels more...idk... Independent? Like, all the other ships have this vibe of "they _need_ each other because the support provided by their relationship makes them both better", but Ryuji typically doesn't feel like he "needs" Ren after his awakening and the defeat of Kamoshida. His trauma basically feels "resolved" the moment he summons his persona and declares he's not gonna take anyone's shit, plus his stunt on the boat finishes the subtle arc about his injured knee, which he never showed obvious anxiety or constantly asked for any emotional support for. Even in his Confidant and general interactions Ryuji is determined and unfaltering, if a little goofy since he's comic relief 85% of the time, so Ren's help doesn't have the same dramatic value. If you were to put the two in a romantic pair there wouldn't be much implied development, so fans push the idea of a relationship a little less.
But hey, that's just my analysis. I don't even like going down romantic routes anyway.
Fun fact:- If you pay close attention to the music playing during "Maya's death" you can hear the the inspiration behind Swear to my bones/ Hoshi to Bokurato
The composer even specifically mentioned the song in particular in an interview I think
Plus with the wholemask concept and colours of both games being red, I'd say p5 really was made with respect for its older titles including 1 &2
P5 is definately closer to 1 and 2 in some aspects, like having the shadows look like the personas instead of whatever they where on 3 and 4, the negotiation with shadows is also closer to 1 and 2 as well.
With Royal I coulda swore we were *this close* to doing something with Nyarlathotep again... Azathoth being tangentially tied to P2 would've been cool, but oh well I'm still happy the eldritch vibes were included lol
@@CelestiaLily I mean, he is Nyarly's grand daddy, makes sense XD
@@RyzaTT GrandNyarly
Ironically it kinda plays out where Joker is the good guy in 5... and in the dub Joker and Tatsuya may have issues at first. Tatsuya wouldn't trust someone named Joker.. and Joker wouldn't trust Tatsuya's voice. That's not even touching on returning tothe lovecraftian mythos
1:15:20 the demon: "Aww guys you're a cute couple, I approve your relationship, but that's cuz I want humans extinct."
Chaotic neutral gang 😂
I’m surprised at the amount of twists they managed to fit into this game. If the later games were like this I think I’d have the worst headache known to man
Imagine the Shido arc exposition dump repeated everytime a twist happens

Imagine if they did it better with P4 "fake culprits". Hell, they could've done better with Izanami as well. Imagine if one of our party had Izanami as their persona and we don't think much about it since we got Izanagi after all but it won't be outta nowhere like the "totally unimportant gas attendant"
@@snailthelostcow63 oooouuuu that definitely would’ve made P4 EVEN MORE interesting
I think Persona 5 could’ve been more interesting if Ryuji was the traitor instead of Akechi. I just want to see a game where the culprit or traitor is that last person you’d expect.
It would take a bit of rewriting. The gang would still eventually suspect Akechi, but, once they got him into the interrogation room, Akechi would attempt to help Joker instead. He would still have to be the one who causes the mental shutdowns, but it might be that Shido was blackmailing and forcing Akechi into it. Eventually, Ryuji would get caught. He had enough of being constantly called useless and wanted true fame as the person who caught or gave away the Phantom Thieves. Can you imagine the reaction of characters like Haru or Ann?
On another note, I think Haru could make a cool traitor too, although, again, a *large* amount of rewriting would have to happen.
Fun fact about the Angel Joker fight, there was supposed to be 2 different fights depending on whether you spread a rumour that Joker was either an angel or a demon.
Since you didn't play the 1st game, you missed the introduction of Igor in that game. It's explained that he's a doll given a soul by Philemon. He's Igor's mom AND dad.
why don’t we see more of him?
@Plaguecoric After Eternal Punishment he leaves for Milk.
5:21 The Reason why Orpheus has Fire skills is because if you look into the mythology of Orpheus he has a father they differ in the version of the story Orpheus. Orpheus father is Oeagrus a Thracian King and another version of Orpheus Father is Apollo the Ultimate Persona of Tatsuya Suou and Apollo had his Lyre which is a gift from Hermes and then Apollo gave his Lyre to Orpheus his son and that's why the reason Orpheus has fire skills in the SMT Series is because his father is Apollo
god i love how indecipherable this story is
8:20
Your rumor came to fruition!!!
8:19 Can't believe rewatching this video made me realize that Crystaaahhl predicted the future...
I get the feeling Persona 2 duology is like the black sheep among the series because you have people in the current Persona fanbase wailing that there aren't any adult persona users even though there are yet these people don't want to check it out cause it's old
I always get the complaint that it's too grindy. Which is fair, but you don't care if you're used to it
They also forget king DILF Zenkichi
'It can't be Fire that breaks the persona code'
P2 Laughs in Gay Option
As much as I love the modern Persona games, I do kind of love how wacky Persona 2's story gets with the rumours coming true and the fake Hitler. Future games should bring some of that energy back. Also, the balls on Tatsuya just smacking literal God in the face. That automatically makes him the best Persona protag, right?
Or worse considering he technically destroyed himself from the timeline right? The ending and ep are confusing
Commenting to say the persona 3 remake rumor is true and its coming out and we're all excited about it.
Watching this a year later ..
8:20 The prophecy is real man
(Persona 3 Reload is now a thing)
Let’s go, this duology is not only my favorite game in the series, but honestly my favorite game ever. No video game story has ever affected me as much as playing through it the first time. Gameplay is very addicting too and the difficulty is perfect imo (especially EP, brutally hard but still manageable). I basically love everything about these two games, hope you enjoy it too!

8:23 Welp, guess the rumors really do work lol
WOOOO YEAH!! I consider Persona 2 to be old school Persona at its peak, and especially the remakes are really good! Loved all your reactions to this game, and can't wait for Eternal Punishment. (Hopefully)

Always glad to see more people aware there are other Persona games than just 3-5, and rumor has it the PSP version of 2 is worth giving a shot
The sin was innocent, but will the punishment be eternal?
Welcome to "what happened if SMT made a persona game". So yeah, it was an acid trip just like SMT but it has some emotional human to human moment, just like Persona. There's a reason why people beg for the old games especially P2 duology for a recognition after all.
Playing them backwards felt pretty funny as well since I thought the "true self shadow" concept was from P3's the answer at first until I played P1 and P2. Hell, Metis and Teddie being able to use a Persona are not so weird after playing those two games. Also my reaction to Master 18 skills was "DAMN HE GOT HASSOU TOBI"
How’d this make Tatsuya probably my favourite persona protagonist even though I’ve never played as him
No joke he is my favorite male protag.
honestly i think he's the best written silent protagonist i've ever seen. All gameplay aspects of a silent protagonist play into his actual personality. He's quiet and distances himself from others due to social trauma from incidents where his persona has appeared without him wanting it. We make his choices for him because he's very indecisive, as we see in the opening with him discussing his career with Ms. Saeko. I thiiink there's a couple of other things too, but it's been a few years since i've played.
Really enjoyed the streams! It's been a while since you played P3, but they actually mention the Nanjo Group there. That's how the Kirijo Group got started, by splitting off from them.
11:20 all the portraits above dialogue in this game are amazing. So many really great expressions and stuff.

I think you are one of the few if not only streamers i've seen that actually played (or read in case of P1) the first few games of the franchise.
i still like the visual style of this game more than most other rpgs. its really cool. perfect blend of 2d and 3d.

It always makes me happy seeing people play Persona 2. It was especially entertaining watching you play blind. It really emphasized the mind-fuckery of this game. I wish Atlus would do a remake.
Fun fact, if you romance Lisa and import your save data to the PSP version of Eternal Punishment, Tatsuya in EP will call her Ginko (or so I've heard)
Something tells me Crystal would be amused by just putting money into the cat statue nonstop.
And to be honest, same.

This was the first persona game where i was there for all the streams and it was amazing. I knew a few spoilers for p2 but getting all the context and watching you get out theorized by ms.Ideal was great. Im really looking forward to the Eternal Punishment video now.
I honestly gotta thank you for these playthroughs because I'd never get around to playing the p2 games and now after watching you go through every conceivable emotion theyve quickly become number 2 on my persona ranking overall.
Forreal your persona streams and videos have been my highlight the past year and I hope the journey has been just as fun for you 👏🏼
48:20 I love how chat implode when Maya said impostor
So I think them being childhood friends implies that ‘Ginko’ is Lisa’s childhood nickname, right? Just like Bichin (Ta-chan) is Tatsuya’s?
Does that mean when Eikichi said it was an easier name to remember for her, he actually called Lisa that since he couldn’t pronounce her real name as a kid?😂😂😂
Yeah that's likely they all came up as that nickname as kids because they couldn't pronounce her name. Ginko also means "golden child" and refers to ginkgo tree leaves, all matching to Lisa's blonde hair but in more positive way as they're comparing it to something pretty instead of mocking her.
@@shincci reminds me of Detective Conan when the professor met his first love. Kinda glad I knew it beforehand so I made a big wide smile when they called her Ginko lol

Fun video! It's what this game deserves ❤
Tatsuya x Jun is the only pairing that makes sense.
This is only what I've heard. I have no proof or sources, but I heard that gay romances were cut from future games because of the AGGRESSIVE backlash from it being in Persona 2. Remember, this came out in 1999. Both in Japan and the West, there was a massive amount of backlash for it being an option so much so that essentially Atlus has been scared to truly tackle the subject with sincerity again. Plus, as Crystal said, a new director who was less willing to take that risk (and who handles queer topics a bit.....insensitively.)
Hindsight is a bitch if that is true
It wasn't from the West, we never got Innocent Sin back in the day, we only got Eternal Punishment.

Ommggg I literally was watching the full playthrough on your channel a couple days ago!! It took me like 2 days and I skipped some of the combat but I loved watching it
I'm going to try do it for Eternal Punishment but I think I should pace myself this time
i'd like to classify persona 2 as the second real-life SCP, alongside jerma
if i wake up in a dumpster in detroit and this game doesn't exist anymore i won't even be surprised
I really hope you enjoy this game as much as the rest of the Persona series . Persona 1 and 2 are one of the most overlooked RPGs I've ever played and it's such a shame .
P2 kinda gets overlooked since it was a split story and only officially released outside of Japan on 2 different console generations with only the second half of the story available for a decade in the west. That being said P2 eternal punishment is my favorite game of the whole SMT verse (including all SMT, Persona games and spin-offs) at least in terms of story… newer entries have nicer mechanics.
Damn your the only person I know who got into Persona backwards. If this keeps up you'll stumble into SMT mainline backass from SMT If.
Well she did recently play through Devil Survivor, so... XD
08:20 About that...
Crystal... I don't know who edits your videos but very very mad respects to them cuz this was amazing!!!
