I loved The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles so much that it became my favorite game of all time since playing it and I'm already REALLY attached to this Trilogy as I play it!! It's so charming and I'm so happy to be able to experience playing this now! I hope you guys enjoy this video series as much as I'm enjoying playing it!

In the Japanese version though his name is Masaru Konaka, and the three kanji used for his name represent small, medium, and large.

Honestly the only thing that is good in this game. It's absolutely ridiculous that Mia gets killed and then suddenly she is back exactly when Phoenix doesn't know how to continue with her own case. I bought the first trilogy and stopped playing after the second case exactly because of this bullshit. Which is a shame because the Wright Edgeworth rivalry seems to be amazing but it's not enough to keep me interested when other parts of the story are not particularly realistic.
@@MarkoVuckovic32Buddy... these games are supposed to be non-sensical. And if you play video games for realism, fine. But most people play games to escape from said realism. Also, it's Capcom, Resident Evil is already over-the-top enough as it is.

I got the pun immediately, and I've never experienced the game before this year.
I love that they kept the puns between languages. In japanese, phoenix's name is "naruhodo" which is also a word that means "i see" so people would say "naruhodo, naruhodo"

Yeah people tend to joke about pun names in localization but the Japanese version has just as equally punny names.
For example, Larry's surname is Yahari, which is another way to say "yappari" that means "as expected" or "just as one thought" etc. So the "When something smells, it's usually Butz" in the Japanese version is something like "as expected, (if something goes wrong,) it's Yahari."
If anything, the localized version has a lot of puns in order to respect the fact that the original version had a lot of puns.
I also love that in the Great Ace Attorney series where the existence of Japanese characters finally became absolutely unavoidable, the localizers didn't just preserve all the Japanese names but came up with Japanese-sounding names that work as English puns, which is the exact mirror image of what the Japanese version did to the British characters' names.

I mean, he's obviously set up not only as a rival to Phoenix, but a foil to him as well, with many contrasting characteristics (Experienced where Phoenix is a rookie, put-together where he's sporadic, posh where he's more casual, etc), so the shipping fodder was in place well before he opened his mouth.
Plus, I mean, they're both cute guys, and Crystaahhl is, well, Crystaahhl.

I can tell that my favorite part of this series is going to be Crystal taking psychic damage from every pun. The reaction and edit at 12:55 was amazing.

I love how into the game she is already. the fact ACTUAL FUCKIG MAGIC exists in the games REALLY blindsided her since great ace attorney never really brought up the supernatural side of things at all.
Mia avenging her own murder while a bit bullshit in how it takes pwoer form phoenix at the end is pretty badass still.
And phoenix! even as a rookie lawyer we see he's very different from naruhodou, he's a lot more outwardly snarky and sassy, and a little less prone to just taking bullshit (he does take bullshit jsut not as much as his ancestor). And the game starts off setting up some intrigue, alluding to his past early on as wel as his mysterious connection to edgeworth.
Edgeworth is SUCH a bastard off the gate, and he is a template all other prosecutors incluidng Van Zieks allude to.
Its kinda funny how redd white would be a bigger foe in any other game, but ehre he's the first real villain and so gets taen down easily, msotly cause he's a little bit of an idiot.

The music in this game is INSANE. It hits SO HARD. And also, the fact that it's not voiced but uses character specific sounds to represent their voices is probably better for the overall aesthetic.

This is one of those rare series where I feel like it only gets better as it progresses. The first game is a classic, but the very last case in the third game is what I remember the most because it was just beautiful storytelling. Things get super epic and super deep the more you continue the story!
As far as the first trilogy goes atleast after that it does become..... Iffy. Fun but iffy 😅
I'm sorry but I just can't accept that Mia suddenly reappears after her death and solves her own case. I wanted a realistic story but instead I got bullshit which is a real shame because the characters themselves are pretty interesting. I bought the trilogy and I haven't completed a single game because of this.
@@MarkoVuckovic32 I'll be honest, initially I was also turned off from the game because of the whole ghost thing. But something like Mia solving her own death isn't exactly that bad since it doesn't happen in that regard often. Mia does become a recurring character but this is probably the only case where she is legit solving the unsolvable but is instead a guide for Phoenix and more like a companion that appears at times.
I know it doesn't sound too convincing but as the game moves on Mia doesn't really interfere with the cases too much outside of comedic instances.
Like legit the only other time she resolves a case is during a flashback when you play as her when she was alive. So while the supernatural stuff seems bad at first, the game easily is able to keep the tension and stakes believable because of its writing and character work.
It gets better and the original trilogy is definitely worth playing through.
I played Persona 5,4,3 because of you and now im going to play Ace Attorney aswell. Thank you for motivating me to play games i know i would enjoy, but don't feel like playing for some reason

OOOOH, this is gonna be great! The first full case, with Edgeworth, and she's already hooked! And there are truly so SO many games to experience in this series :) If you can keep that "Sure, it's bs BUT I DON'T CARE!" perspective, you'll enjoy every minute, even thru the eye-rolling silly and dumb moments, some you've already seen like the wig-throwing and the ghost-Mia, and many more to come. This is exactly why this series is beloved, and it's always a treat to enjoy someone seeing it new for the first time! May the spoilers never catch you!

I’ve always kinda struggled to get into the Phoenix Wright entries of the Ace Attorney franchise (For stupid reasons, my first exposure to it was Apollo Justice back in the day so he was my favourite and I always felt like the other games did him a disservice) so I’m glad to experience vicariously through Crystal.

@@jonasquinn7977honestly I feel like that the first two games are just okay but they become amazing when you consider the games as parts of the trilogy. The third game wraps up the trilogy in a fantastic way so I do highly recommend playing it as well.

Okay so an affidavit (affa-DAH-vit) is basically a legal written testimony. It's also done under oath, so if you lie in the affidavit (and it gets presented in court as evidence) you can potentially be charged with perjury if the lie is found out and the judge is frustrated.

The games are great, some cases are definitely better written than others, but the experience as a whole is amazing. The original trilogy has some of the most iconic and seminal cases that eventually with elements that eventually became staples of the series. Once you're done with the trilogy there's an anime adaptation that covers them. Some elements are slightly changed here and there, but I think they overall did a pretty good job covering everything.
It's interesting watching someone play Ace Attorney the very first time, after playing The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles first. TGAA games are great (pun not intended); but there is a reason why the original AA series is a classic...
