- Americas pickup truck manufactures are out of touch with how much buyers can actually afford. RAM, Chevrolet, GM and Ford Truck prices are out of control and despite low sales numbers the past few years... they just seem to keep going higher. In my last video I went to a Ford dealership and to my surprise they actually had a few trucks with as much as 8,000 off of MSRP. But as I wandered around to a different section... something caught me by surprise.

Blame Obama/Biden for C.A.F.E. Fleet fuel economy standards set in motion during the 2007 growth of a green religion. MFG's rushed new tech and products to enter the assembly line or fines the mfg's had no choice. New investments for tooling, methods, training and maintenance came at a cost to the end user/buyer.
Electric cars were ruahed to market to lower the fleet standard fuel economy at lost profit, mfg's killed inefficient vehicles(Ford passenger vehicles), rushed by engineering standards of efficient turbo engines to market, lighter vehicles to improve fuel economy, thinner & less paint that was more enviromentally friendly - yadda yadda yadda. IT ALL COMES AT A COST TO THE BUYER. But yeah do not blame the politician BLAME THE MFG!?!?
Don't play into the outrage propaganda of lazy people who simply scream "stick it to the man" - think about it and look deeper or suffer from your own inadequacies while over 40% of politicians become millionaires while in office.

Somethings gotta pop, can't keep going like this.
Just bought a rust free 14 Ram 1500 for 10k. 115,000 miles. NEVER pay those stupid prices, and im single and make 130K a year.
@Jscot1001 my father in law passed, left us his 2014 Silverado. 109k in great shape. We'll drive it forever. If it really took a crap, I'd rather give it a new motor than buy another truck.
It wasn't that long ago when you could get a new pickup for less than $20k. Those were the two door, no crew cab, bare bones trucks though. This is when they still made pickups for working class people. Now pickups are luxury SUVs in era when the SUV has become uncool soccer mom garbage.
Those Dealerships NEED TO SUFFER for a few YEARS, ... after the way they treated customers for the past 3-4 years !!!!!!! Be GOOD the have some of them go Bankrupt ....... Thin the GREED out !!!!
Yeah, I hope they all go bankrupt. And come back with a direct consumer model and cut out the middleman BS.
Well said
They are a business and only charged what idiots were willing to finance......not all dealerships are bad please don't stereotype and learn to spell...
Maybe the big dealerships don't rely on repeat customers. In my country they do. Makes for better service too.
Yep
I am a full blown gear head, who bought brand new cars every 2-3 years my entire life. I do love both sports cars and pickup trucks. Needless to say that I spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on these machine. Since covid, I completely pulled out. No more business for these leeches manufacturers. I still can afford new cars, but decided that they got cocky and no longer deserve my money. Its over.
Right on!
Awesome job. I'm 28, trying to my my first new truck to work with. I have two mini excavators to tow. An f250 in Canada is 64k$ BASE model 2023 no cab no 4x4. Hopefully in a few years I can afford one. Sucks being almost 30, and not having any house savings, because I gotta save for a truck first to make money with.
What did you settle on if you don’t mind me asking
@@bravobear1844I hold on my 2016 4Runner TRD Trail. Just did maintenance and oil change so far. I looked few time to buy somethibg new for the kick of it, but new trucks are sensors fest and trouble hugger ... with ridiculous price tag. I will stick on that 4 Runner as long as I possibly can. No turbo crap with small high reving engine. This a strong naturally aspirated V6 4.0.
What do you mean buddy? Good cars are cheaper than ever! You can have Bugatti beating performance, at least from 0-150mph for $89k msrp now in a Tesla model Plaid. If you hate electric cars, you can have Mclaren SLR performance that was $400k msrp in 2005 for only $80-90k now in a c8 corvette. New Ford Maverick trucks are literally cheaper @ base msrp than Ford model T's adjusted for inflation and get 40mpg! Think about how crazy that is, you are getting a truck, free A/C, apple carplay, driver assistance, and reliability for cheaper inflation adjusted price than a Ford model T! IDK why people are so fixated on the price of these gigantic luxury barges. You need to kill a whole herd of cows just to upholster 1 of these bloated trucks. Good performing cars are getting cheaper due to improving tech, materials and labor are not getting cheaper... In 500 years people might be complaining about the cost of space ships, just because the space ships they want to buy are super expensive and are stuffed with Bio-Engineered Mammoth leather and luxury crap that don't add jack squat to its utility. Meanwhile there exists compact sensible space ships made by Toyota that are super reliable and affordable that they ignore.
Out of touch with reality is an understatement.
It's November. WTF are they going to do with the 2024 models when they couldn't sell the 2023 models?? These stealerships deserve to go bankrupt but I fear that the whole intention is to have a "great reset" by destroying the middle class. Once we're priced out of existence, the nation will be like Mexico: there will be only the drug lords and politicians and the poor. There will be no middle class any more and the housing market reflects this too. My parents' old house sold for barely $185,000 when they moved 10 years ago. It was relisted for a ridiculous $385,000. I truly fear I will be homeless because I cannot afford a house that's even smaller than that one. It wasn't anywhere near 1,200 sq ft and a house that's 2,000 sq ft in my city and all of the surrounding cities cost a whopping $250,000 and up. You cannot be "middle class" unless you make $90,000 a year after taxes and living expenses. But the politicians in DC don't care one bit and we are headed for an economic downfall that will make 2009 look amazingly prosperous.

Well, therein lies the rub. The U.S. economy has been there twice in the recent past. The mid 80's and the early 2000's. It's a 25 yr cycle that started in the 1980's with Reagan's (largest in history) tax cuts for the rich and trickle down economics THAT NEVER HAPPENED. The economy implodes as it reaches an inflection point and housing is usually the culprit with everything else domino'ing off of that. Lending criteria is relaxed, people ask for and get higher and higher prices while the buyers qualify for the loan and then one day the saturation point is reached and the music stops. Whoever is left holding the mortgage note on the high priced house when the market takes a tumble loses. The rich are insulated completely and just get more rich as they simply step in and buy up all the paper on the foreclosed bank owned properties and make money either way the economy shifts while the middle class shrinks. The rich don't care how much cars cost.
@@mobilesolutions4u444 it sells for $250k currently but sales are really bad right now because nobody wants to pay 8% interest.
But that’s still beside the point. If interest rates weren’t so high it’s still a net positive investing in a house. Vehicles depreciate in value. Paying this kind of money for a vehicle is financial suicide
Those trucks are literally worth half of what they are priced at - and that's taking inflation into account.
I don't think they are worth even that much.
Your right except it's half -20%.
and that's why they sell them, because a fool and his money are easily parted.
They need to cut the price by two thirds! This is rediculous!

Very reliable cars are super cheap nowadays. It's just trucks/cars people want are expensive because they are desirable. It's pretty funny honestly how many people always cry about it.
These 100k trucks need to kill a whole herd of cows just to get upholstered. New Luxury Vehicles are meant for the wealthy, not the middle class...
Cars are so cheap nowadays. Everyone always ignores the option of picking up a 2006 - 2010 Prius with 100k miles for $3000-$4000 that will last for 200k+ more miles and gets you 40+mpg. I bet people in the 1920's would have killed to buy a car for 1/10th the price of a model T that will last them 200k miles even though its used and ugly.

My wife and I were in the market for a truck, about 6 months ago, we wanted to use specifically for hauling heavy loads (we have several properties, including a small farm). I priced out a few trucks from different brands to provide us with the hauling needs we needed - nothing outrageous or luxurious - and all were well over $60k.
So we bought a 1993 F250 with a 7.5L 460, it had just over 110k miles on it - got it for $10k cash. It has hauled everything we've needed it to with no problems.
Truck prices, and newer vehicle prices in general, are at scam-levels.

I recently turned 19 and ive already come to the commitment to never buy a car from a dealership. I bought my first car about a year ago and it's a 2005 Volvo XC90 I spent $4500 paid cash. A long time ago, when I was a kid, a pickup truck was the least expensive vehicle that you could buy. They only came with vinyl interiors and most of them had six cylinder engines with three-speed column shift. I haven't bought a new one since 1998. IMO, that's when prices started to spin out of control.
My first new vehicle was a 2006 Chevy Silverado, loaded with anything you could want. Bought it for $33K….the 2024 trim is triple that price.
One thing I've learned is I can easily live without a $50,000 pickup. So can my business.
That’s why I’m still driving a 22 year old truck. People keep asking me why I still have it after all these years, and I tell them because I need my truck and can’t afford the newer ones. A $2,000 repair bill is still a hell of a lot cheaper than a $60,000 new truck, or a $30,000 used one with high mileage.
I bought a 2016 RAM in 2018. The previous owner left the sticker in the owners manual and the price on it new was 52,000. I got it for 27,000. Pickup trucks were originally used by contractors and farmers to do heavy work. That was it, as nobody else used pickup trucks besides those two types of businesses.
These days, pickup trucks are marketed as a luxury vehicle for upper class suburbanites while real customers (I.e.: contractors) are completely ignored on what we need.

The highest end full size truck in Ford’s lineup, the limited trim starts at $83,000. The highest end sedan in Toyota’s lineup is the Lexus LS starting at 80k. People are comparing top of the line luxury trucks and cars to normal non luxury car prices. Trucks are priced very close to their Sedan counterparts, but a little less to their suv counterparts. A good compact truck like the Maverick starts at 22k, a good compact car like the corolla starts at 21k.
Honestly its just a shift in American purchases, more people want big trucks and SUVs now (not that people are hauling more). Car prices seem to be staying more reasonable or even smaller trucks and SUVs, things that would be more then adequate for most people. Im assuming this will switch around again when gas prices start going to more ridiculous levels, but for now even with how much people complain (I dont think their unreasonable compared to the last few decades) those prices arent high enough to change peoples minds.

It used to be so rare to see trucks with extended cabs, now it's the norm. That's because what these guys need is really a midsize sedan or a minivan for.picking the kids up at school or soccer practice, but midsizes and minivans aren't cool enough, so they get these monstrosities in stead.

@@lesliefranklin1870 Yes. This is not due to inflation. All the car makers have been reaching record profits. They continued to sell loaded up pickups and thought it was an endless feast of profits.
@@DW-ts3wd It's worse than that. Typically, a car dealership buys cars on a special finance plan called "flooring". If they sell the vehicle in a short time, the financing is free. However, if they don't, they get charged a percentage every month that car is on their lot. With stale inventory, that can add up quickly.
A couple of weeks ago I stopped by the local GMC dealer to take a peek at the Hummer EV. MSRP is $115090 with a market adjustment of $50k. You read that right, fifty thousand dollars. Total is $165099. Eff that.
Those cars a junk also
One factor that might be underestimated is the effect of nearly 0% financing. I don’t mean for consumers - for dealerships holding inventory. For 5 years the cost of financing inventory had been dropping and reaching nearly nothing. At that point, there is much less financial pain to hold inventory on the lot. NOW that inventory costs money every day it stays on the lot. My suspicion is that dealerships haven’t adjusted to the new interest rates.
Who knew we had so many 200K+ households among us? Imagine paying for a truck 1/2 of what I paid a house for 10 years ago…
Those trucks are more than I paid for a house 30 years ago.

One day we will all be homeless with no cars because we can't afford anything even if we make $60K a year.
It's amazing that people actually pay $400 plus a month for a vehicle.
These high prices aren't due to inflation. The car makers have been making record profits.
Moral of the story: Keep the car you have now, or buy used from private sellers. Dealers know they can sell these oversized monstrosities for tens of thousands over MSRP because suckers keep buying them. Don’t give them the reasons to keep doing it.
Well put!
I just bought a truck that was probably around $60k new in 2021 for $30k. Excellent condition/history, feels like new, I can't understand why anyone would buy new.
The PROBLEM is, when the NEW MARKET is out of Whack, the used market Follows. People KEEP them longer when they cost so much, they finance them 8 years, it takes them FOREVER to get them PAID DOWN so they CAN SELL IT. Anyone that pays over $100,000 or even over $50,000 for a new truck ought to lose their money and go BROKE. Of course, they are all FINANCED, when the next Correction comes there may be a LOT of them for sale then,

I bought used from a dealer. Beginning of the year, I bought a 2019 Mazda3 hatchback with AWD for $22,300 with 18,500 miles on the clock. Little fun car, handles great once I ditched the OE Toyo for some grippy Pirelli P Zero and shed 4lbs on each tire. It's a 2019 base model (2023 it's the 2.5S Preferred, 3rd trim level) which is pretty well equipped for a base model. Leather steering wheel and shifter, HQ back up cam, 10.3" info, android auto, lane departure, lane keep assist, auto emergency braking, blind spot, mirror blinkers, rain sensor, dual climate, best leatherette seats I've seen, with a leatherette wrapped dash, etc,. Anyway, I got a steal on it considering the mileage, CPO, clean car fax, full service history, extended 7 years 100k mile powertrain warranty. KBB had it listed at $26,700.
Now if I were to buy it brand new, 2023 AWD Hatchback same exact spec, it would've cost me $32,200! $32,200 for a car that was initially $26,000 in 2019. A turbo model would've cost me $40,000 because of markups. No thanks, I love the performance and fun factor of small hatches, but $32-40k is a terrible investment. Not to mention the long wait because there was none in stock. I'm planning on keeping this car for over 10 years because the car market and prices are absurd and I can't imagine it going down with inflation. Most Americans are struggling just juggling a car payment, add mortgage or rent and it's devastating in today's economy. I kept my E90 BMW for almost 12 years, did most of the wrenching myself. Gave it to my sister and still do the maintenance for her. I plan on doing it with this car. I'll do little modifications to suit my driving needs over the years, EBC brake pads, gravity battery, rotary forged wheels, maybe an exhaust, and it'll still be a lot cheaper than buying new. Shame on these dealers and car manufactures for stealing from the people.
It shows how much they hedge their risk by grossly overvaluing these items which they intend to write-off at a loss. It essentially amounts to making a profit in the end if they fail to sell it and at those prices they can anticipate that they won't. Especially by this time of year. They are also preparing to mark them down to make it look like the buyer is getting a huge value compared to the supposed "original price"! Also, many corporations will actually want to have a failing business among their holdings to help offset the total amount of taxes being paid by the parent corporation, on behalf of their thriving businesses. One offsets the other when more than one company is owned and their taxes are the responsibility of one parent corporation.
And MSRP means absolutely nothing.
Several years ago I was in need of a new range.
My old one wasn't dead dead but, dying so, I had some time.
I watched the sales price on a specific stand alone range for a year - wrote all the info in a sticky note and everything so the internet couldn't gaslight me.
Through every single holiday sales special the range was listed for the exact same price; $630.
The only thing that changed was the MSRP that was crossed out - -$730- , -$799- , -$750- , etc.
Even on non holiday days the price was $630 so, it didn't matter when I bought it. I wasn't "going to miss out!"
I bought a Bronco last year. Ordered it from the factory which means I paid MSRP. After taxes and fees and stuff it was somewhere near $48k. The day I got the email from Ford saying it was scheduled for production I got an email from the dealer asking if I still wanted it. I saw the placard they put in the window the day I went to pick it up. The were gonna ask $78k if I didn't want it. And when I went to pick it up they had a dozen Broncos on the lot. All marked up.
If someone could figure out how to sell a lightweight 4-door 4 seat inline 4, with 4x4, with a manual 5 speed for cheap, it would be the bestselling vehicle in the US. I get that inflation exists and supply chain nonsense. No turbo needed, 230 horse, even with a measly 22mpg, it would take over the market.
Give me the Honda Civic barebones of pickup trucks. Nobody makes them anymore. Shit I even remember when the passenger side sideview mirror was an option. Bring back those days of barebones trucks.
You did not order it from the factory. The dealer ordered it from the factory for you.
Much, much cheaper to just keep fixing what we have and not worry about buying new vehicles. $100k trucks at 60 months and 7% interest would be $2k+ a month. That's insane!
Why would you buy such an expensive car/truck if you have to finance it? That’s just stupid. Financing a house, ok I get that, but I’d never finance a car.
That extra 2k would help you pay off your mortgage early.

The Ford Maverick is miles and miles better than a Ford model T lol.
I don't know why the middle class American is looking to buy one of those trucks.
There are so many cars under 27k, (most of Nissan's /Hyundai/Kia lineup) that is in my opinion, much better, reliable, and well optioned than what you get from a Ford model T...
House builders are intentionally cutting back HARD to drive prices into the skies. EVERY house in my neighborhood is overpriced by a whopping $100K. We are heading for a financial downturn that will be PERMANENT. It's too late to do anything about it. I fear I will never be able to buy a house. .. 10:12 .. I live in south coastal Georgia about 50 miles north of Jacksonville...we purchased our present home in 2018 for 159k...all these truck prices are Ludacris...you see very few of these newer vehicles in our town for the simple fact no one can afford them...😎
The auto companies are building a case here to be bailed out in the future. Just like in 2007-2009. They will not lose or adjust pricing. "Too big to fail"
I am relieved I am not the only one who didn't forget that. I also see that coming too!
Ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
This is so much the answer. Buying a new vehicle or not, we are all going to end up paying these prices when we bail them out again.
Those car companies should not have been bailed out. Let the economy decide and it'll sort out the losers letting others rise to the top or make way for new competition.
They'll probably get bailed out again..
Privatized gains and socialized losses.
This is the perfect time for consumers to go on a buying strike! Let's see how long these ridiculous prices stand up to the test of time! 💯🗽🇺🇸
you're playing right into their hands. THEY WANT THESE VEHICLES GONE!
When its over China will be the only place making cars. You wont like them ether.
Ha That's a joke. Americans cant help but consume no matter the price
@@livewire2k4You mean they want them off the market and not to exist?
I mean that's partly why used car prices are out of whack
I feel like Rip Van Winkel, and I woke up to find these prices! Insanity! When I was a lad, I bought a 69 Chevy straight six, three on the tree, for $500 (a lot of money back then for me) and drove it for six years and worked it hard. Then I sold it for $200. Now that was how trucks were back then.
I bought a 2019 RAM 3500 Big Horn diesel dually long-bed from a dealer in Feb, 2020 for $62K. Prices have since skyrocketed. It’s insane! It’s good old fashioned greed! Consumers have all the power…..vote with your dollars….by either buying or not buying. Businesses don’t drive our economy, we consumers do and business follows. If we continue to buy over-priced vehicles, they’ll continue to over-charge. If we don’t, they’ll have no choice other than to lower prices. It’s up to us!!!
I went to Menards lumber yard to get some lumber to remodel my closet.
There was this elderly couple with a brand new monster truck probably worth $150K and a brand new trailer attached to it. They were buying 6 2x4s and struggling to tie it up.
Menards employee had messed up my order so I had to go back inside and change it up and came back out. The couple was still trying to secure the 6 2x4s in their trailer. What a waste of money. American dream is a false sense of materialism that people can’t afford.
you don't know their financial situation - they may have paid cash. worry about yourself not someone else's money
@@sterlingmarshel6299I'm going to bet on they're so far buried in debt that they will die on the Walmart floor because they will never retire from buying stupid shit their entire lives.
In the 50's and 60's, it wasn't unusual to see 2 and 3 year old truck leftovers at dealers. Looks like things are coming back full circle.
Did they at least discount them to move?
A "New" 2 year old low option truck could be had for 16-17 hundred dollars.@@internetguy1260
Yeah you are right because they still 2023 out there and there only two months left in the year
Insane! No way I would ever pay that much for a truck or a car. I'll keep my little 99' Tacoma. I would rather spend the money on my home. Btw, just a couple of days ago I was at a garage getting my oil changed and they had a F150 and I think a GMC with their engines sitting in the floor with what looked like an air intake that was made out of plastic. Plastic engines! Insane.
I blame the corrupt UAW and politicians for this crazy stuff! The American workforce is broken and work ethics are basically unheard of now.
I ran a calculation in that first Ram truck for $103,280. At 5% with $10,000 down and paying all taxes and fees up front still comes to $1680 a month for 72 months with a total of $136,000 paid at the end. Yikes
Hustled
lol an extra car at the end
@@yoced1468 that’s a mortgage payment for most. Extract car at the end would be the least they could do 😂
I'm curious what the term lengths for loans are these days, I think 72 months is a short loan these days. I'm curious if 84+ month loans are the new norm?
@@ljshoreslokal wow. I guess it start being like home loans soon 🙈
The biggest issue I have is the fact that the dealership website with have all their trucks listed at much lower prices. Then when you get there they are $15,000 more and the sales rep is like "So you want to get the paperwork started?"
The ole bait and switch
@@jarrodschaub4913 lol, for sure.
Nope. I hate liars, and you lied to get me here. Bye!
Too funny when you go and look at vehicles they think you want to sit down and start paperwork within like 30 seconds of the start of your car search mfers
I got so excited about the F150 lightning fleet model at $40,000 not because it was an electric truck for $40,000 but because it was ANY truck for $40,000.
Bought my 2002 Ford Ranger for $2,500 put $2,500 in repairs. Been driving it for 6 yrs now Billing out at $100/hr as a handyman! Do the math! My truck works for me, I don’t work for my truck! 💪💰🙌😎
I always kinda knew that I was never going to buy a brand new vehicle, the money never really made sense to me. Car prices after 2020 have just signed, sealed delivered that fact. 😂😂😂
haha. Brand new is such a ripoff. I've always bought used. Better deals to be had. You're totally spot on, pre 2020 cars had somewhat tolerable prices.
Used stuff is a ripoff too. Sometimes even worse because it will have 45k miles on it and only be maybe 4 grand less than a new model.@@MotorFeed
Loved your choice of words "mental illness" Absolutely! When do these greedy dealers wake up and face reality?
I hope is hurts to be as stupid as you. The dealers are still in business. That means there are enough people willing to buy enough vehicles to keep them in business. How exactly is getting the most people are willing to pay. Every time you've sold anything, that's exactly what you did.
I live in Cleveland and Akron Canton area NO REAL DEALS ON TRUCKS but stupid people still buying them.39 year truck owner.
They'll stop when people stop taking out 8 year long loans to pay for these things
Probably when people start not paying what they ask.
@@hagamapamanope, they will buy them back at auction and sell them to next sucker.
I remember my parents bought a new car for $3,000 in the 1960's. I bought a new 1977 Ford F-250 XLT for $7,000. My 2012 Xterra cost $30,000 dollars.
I have a 2011 Silverado crew cab 1500 with 88000 miles. Runs great and has zero issues. I was going to buy a new truck as a retirement gift to myself in 2020 but they couldn't get the color I wanted because of "the chips" It was going to cost me 32,500. i told them I would buy the white one when it came in, they never called me back and now they are 65,000. Guess I'll keep my truck and buy a fancy stereo with a big screen.
I remember when a basic truck is around 30k and fully loaded around 50-60k. Now you will have a mortgage for a truck.
Currently driving a 2004 RAM diesel with 272,000 miles on it. Paid 20k for it in 2014. At age 70, I'm thinking it's the last truck I'll probably own. Very little rust and the drive train is solid. I just can't see the value in these prices.
its kinda insane how much things have changed since 2014, and not for the good.
@@leonglassglow3854 It had 133,000 miles on it. Well maintained and minimal exposure to Michigan road de-icing chemicals because it headed south to Florida at the first sighting of snowflakes. Just a solid work truck, depreciated against roofing income. I did not pay for the truck . . . my customers did. Given the pricing on new trucks at the time, the purchase from the original owner, while not exceptional, was reasonable in my opinion.
That raptor R was sold at manheim auction in Utah a month ago for $134.000.00 with a factory Window sticker of $118.000.00 it had 2000 miles on it.
As Hard as these things are to get or even find..........they will get that crazy price for it AND dealer prep, documentation fee, sales tax & licence fee
I am a 71 years old man, I have an 86 Toyota pick up single axle, automatic transmission, air conditioner, 22R engine with 289862 miles, running trouble free, I guarantee that it will outlast me and my younger son will get to enjoy a very high quality truck is, I wouldn't change it for none of the cars in the market no matter how new that other equipment may be.
Just so you know folks… these prices trickle downs to insurance cost
"THEIR" MARKET IS FOR THE TOP 3% wage earners, period. Anything under 75K a year, apply for food stamps.
75k is not top 3%. Were you taught to count with food stamps or to just read a USA Today 7th grade level? Not sure what economic garbage you accept as fact but the trucks in this video are on the road all over the place in certain areas. Not saying its right to charge that kind of money but its child's play in the grand scheme. My 23-year-old neighbor runs a masonry company with 14 employees. he has four 2023 ram 2500's and a dump body Chevy C7500. No college just a high school diploma and started doing odd repairs in the neighborhood. Such an enterprising young individual is being rewarded for his fruits and failures over time but doesn't sit there and bitch. Then there's you.
More like 150K a year.
They all sell most of their trucks to commercial customers. My company buys hundreds a year from all manufacturers.
@@jcman240 Wow
