Every hoodwinked enjoyer ever: It sucks i love it
It sucks ass but it's one of those movies you'll never forget for MANY reasons
Eh, the animation does but everything else is great.
@@michaelm5542 Fans being aware that its riding Shrek hype is not animation related)
@@michaelm5542 Personally to me the animation is a MAJOR source of comedy.
This movie when I was younger really tickled the funny bone in me that finds cursed/choppy CGI animation hysterical, probably why I loved Jimmy Neutron and later on the Garry's Mod TF2 animations.
@@42neddy I would say that's more of a culprit for Ice Age. (Which I really like) Also, you could argue Shrek ripped off the dynamic from Toy Story, and further we go down the rabbit hole. Hoodwinked really isn't very similar to Shrek.
You're telling me you watched Boss Baby before watching Hoodwinked!? And you call yourself a cinema connoisseur?
Right? What a hack fraud
"hoodwinked has a lot of Boss baby vibes"
And they call themselves furries 😤🤦♂️
Yeah everyone knows hoodwinked should be saved for last
adum is a fucking hack this is the best film ever made
when you're a kid, you don't notice how weird the animation looks. my imagination filled in the gaps
And 480p helped a lot.
Maybe I was just a really snooty kid but the look of the animation was why I never watched this growing up. I didn't like scary godmother either for the same reason
Well it wasn't in HD for a start
the bunny scared the fuck out of me 15 years ago and it still does.
Very true

Damm that reminds me of that game Animal Well. I hear it's available for purchase right now on Steam, Playstation 4, and the Nintendo Switch.
My girlfriend is OBSESSED with this movie. Everytime I talk about potentially watching a movie, Hoodwinked is mentioned. Every time she sees a goat 'BE PREPARED'
Cool girlfriend she has good taste
"🎵This lesson must be shared🎵" every time I packed for scout camp as a kid. And now.
I also am dating a girl who has autism
You’re a lucky man.
I’m sorry.
$8M budget.
Anne Hathaway, Glenn Close, Jim Belushi, Patrick Warburton, and Xzibit.
This movie’s miraculous.
Just eight millions??? Holy shit.
8mil is NOTHING
Cars came out in 2006. Budget 120mill 👀
The movie was outsourced to the Philippines to a team who’d never made a movie before. The animators were probably paid pennies on the dollar
The Director said the downside of the low budget was that there was no money for rewrites/additional animation. We are literally watching the first draft of this script.
This movie is definitely a childhood guilty pleasure. It looks horrendous and some of it is just plain bad, but I still like it.
Can't say the same for the sequel.
there was a sequel?
The writing was so good though. As a kid I was like ok here's an actually good movie made for me that doesn't treat me like a complete idiot. Will always have a soft spot for it despite the borderline scary animation lol
I mean, the animation IS trash but Adam compares it a lot with Disney/Pixar movies, which are multi-billion dollar companies that have way more more experience with 3d animation. If you compare it to similar budget movies at the time, the cg almost looks decent in comparison. That plus the lower resolution and the fact most of us were kids when we watched means apart from a few scenes (like those fucking kids that still haunt my nightmares), it would've looked fine.
@@jorgewilliam7103 I also found it funny that he brought up Pinocchio: A True Story as another comparison. Though I can’t seem to find anything about the studio or the budget they were working with, it’s fair to note that the film is came out in 2022 versus the first Hoodwinked movie that came out 2005. Technology may not have made world breaking advancements in animation but there definitely is *some* improvement between seventeen years or so. I agree with him that some of the models are a sight for sore eyes, but it’s not the worst Ive seen when compared to other films made with a similar budget and time period
I haven't seen the sequel but it looks like absolute hot garbage. The only reason this movie worked is because the people making it actually cared
I love how nearly every scene, every action plays into another, and yet YMS thinks that “everything just happens randomly.”
He was too distracted by the bad animation to pay any attention to the plot, I mean you hear the other guy in the call explain to him that they're trying to solve the mystery of who took the goodies an hour into the movie. His criticisms elsewhere in the video are valid but he clearly missed how clever the writing is.
@@chuckbatman5 that tends to happen when you talk throughout a movie lol.
I think he said in his Boss Baby watchalong that if there's something that completely takes him out of the movie, it basically is impossible to pay attention to it afterwards. So the animation being so bad probably just totally got him disconnected from the movie.
@@SylentVoidkeeperthat sucks
@@SylentVoidkeeper Not the best trait for a movie reviewer.
as a childhood-winked enjoyer, it may be an ugly baby. but it’s OUR ugly baby
Adam, you have no right to review this movie. You didn’t study the 12 principles of animation.
Principle 1: do it for cheap
16:10 😂
You don’t have to study the 12 Principles of Animation to know the animation in this movie is garbage.
@@ChildOfChaos07 Said by someone who hasn't studied the 12 principles of animation.
Adam immediately compares the movie to other products by studios with 10x the budget, experience, and staff lol.
Adam: "Were you aware that the visual effects in this movie don't look that great?" x 3,000,000
Oh, and in case you were wondering:
Toy Story 1 Budget: $30 Million
Hoodwinked Budget: *$8 Million*
... oh, and *_ten years later,_* so with inflation it costs like 20% to make. So the fact that it still looks about ~70% as good is pretty impressive. 🤷♂️
“Look at the texture of…”
That cursed singing goat is the best part of Hoodwinked.
Reminds me how was originally Terk's camp trashing song in Disney's "Tarzan" was going to get cut (admittedly you could trim down the "the curious gorillas come in and wreck the camp" plot point in a minute-long little scene) but test audiences really liked it so they kept it, same happened with the singing goat.
The goat doesn’t even look that cursed, especially compared to other characters.
The Polish dub for this is 10/10
The translators put in jokes that only people here can understand which made this movie even more enjoyable and hilarious
Same with russian, i remember laughing with my mother so hard at the goat's song. Good times
And the english dub is 6/10
Sometimes I hear that Americans hate movies that are absolutely beloved in my country and it's almost always because of the dub.
The Brazilian dub is also great.
Same with the Mexican dub, it's full of slang and double entendres that when I was a kid I thought it was a Mexican film.
A common criticism of the film is Boingo's twist being predictable, but when I first watched the film as a kid, I assumed Nicky Flippers, the frog, was gonna turn out to be the villain.
He gave me similar vibes as Stinky Pete or Mr. Waternoose, in that he just seemed to be TOO nice, and I thought he was gonna have a similar villain reveal as those two characters. Even after Boingo was revealed to be the bandit, I expected Flippers to backstab the good guys and reveal he was in cahoots with Boingo. I was shocked at the end when his niceness turned out to be genuine.
I think in my first watch I expected Granny to be evil with how much the trailers played her up as being hardcore
While it definitely is predictable, as a kid I wasn’t used to these kinds tropes so the twist blew my mind back then.
When I first watched this as a little kid, I had no idea it was Boingo but look back, yeah it’s super obvious lol
i rewatched this movie like 20 times as a kid and i couldn't tell you anything that happened besides it's murder mystery into the woods
Deena metay
Relatable.
The nonlinear plot confused me as a kid and now I don't remember anything with context so it just feels like a fever dream to me now
I always respect what they were able to do with their miniscule budget for a movie like this.
For context, the same year the movie Robots came out for 10 times the budget of Hoodwinked.
Yea but robots is a better movie than this all around. And I don't even like robots.
This was also the animators first time animating a film and the budget was so low that they couldn’t reanimate scenes so they had to stick with the first draft.
this was actually in development before Shrek came out(in fact i believe they were in development around the same time) so technically it's not a rip off. Also they pepole who made this knew the film looked like shit, witch is why they tried to make up for it by focucing on the jokes not the animation. Also all the shit like the forced pop music and celebrity voice actors were 100% things Harvey added, not the filmmakers
Weren't all of the lead actors except Warburton as The Wolf replaced with celebrity voiceover AFTER they finished the movie? That's what I remember reading like they were dubbing over finished animation
@@chuckbatman5 yes thats correct. originally it was the creators family and friends that voiced the roles. when harvey came on he thought a celebrity cast would be more marketable.
Strangely, the pop songs weren’t licensed.
This movie reminds me of those animation tests for Shrek where everyone was deformed
"Imagine watching this in the theater"
Lmao this is one of the first movies I have recollection of seeing in a theater. I was born in 02 lol
This is a movie that I think really needs a remake. The idea of it was good but the studio that made it sucked. This is what remakes should be doing instead of ruining already great products.
But this IS a great product, sometimes cheese is stinky and that’s a good thing 😂
You better not shit on this movie lol, this was my childhood
Do you not know who he is?
@@DDarkestKnightyeah , he literally hates fun
I mean, this movie definitely isn't good, but it doesn't have to be lol
Sorry bro every yms fan has their turn eventually.
To quote a certain video:
"Childhood ruined! Childhood ruined!
Sorry to sacrifice your sacred cow!
Childhood ruined! Childhood Ruined!
If it wasn't ruined before, It's ruined now!"
Fun fact: this film had a budget of only $8 million. For context, DreamWork’s Madagascar released the same year and had a budget of $75 million
Apperently the celebrities were hired in post by the Weinsteins and thus didn’t factor into the budget
*This film demands a remaster.*
The plot, characters, everything but the animation is top notch. If only the animation didn’t get in the way…
The only remaster I'd accept is if it was done by worthikids. He once doodled the characters and in his style they look PERFECT. Plus, I read that the designs for this movie were going for a Rankin-Bass Christmas Special look, and since worthikids is REALLY good at recreating the Rankin-Bass stopmotion animations with Blender, I want a remastered version of the movie to look like that. Personally a little bit of cursed/choppy animation is part of the comedy IMO
@@DeepEye1994i haven’t seen worthi’s hoodwinked redesigns! i gotta find those now holy shit-

@@CaptLuser good question
Great job editor for circle wiping on the joke about circle wiping.
That and the disgusting lips dude being projected from the projector he just turned on were my favorite parts of this video lmao
Patrick Warburton is a legend deserving of utmost respect.
After all, he did play the last sane man and the ultimate example of humanity, Ken, in _Bee Movie,_ a role that doesn't get enough recognition.
As soon as saw this on my feed, I immediately skipped to the Schnitzel song with the kids cause I know Adam was gonna be traumatized by those children
"There's a song?" Honey, you signed up for a musical. Enjoy!
I swear to god around the age of 9 I would get so pissed off at every kids movie because I could guess the plot based of the friendship failure aspect being what the movie is built around. Always assumed it was like the unspoken rule of Family animated comedies.
Shnitzel on a stick FUCKED me UP when I was a kid. Something about how unappetizing it is, and the way the kids end up getting like, attacked by the tasty treat towards the end... but they LOVE it. This happens every time and they still come from miles around running to get their Shnitz stick. Phenomenal.
This film is better than several Pixar films, and I think that really says a lot about S O C I E T Y.
Wait hold up why?
I have impeccable taste in cinema, in that i hate 90% of them, as any sane, rational, intelligent person should. Hoodwinked is pure kino
Granny's neck tat and skiing was a triple x with Vin Diesel reference.
I completely forgot about it until I watched Doug Walker’s video a short while ago. I didn’t get the reference as a kid but now that I know what Triple X is, the reference amuses me.
i can’t believe this animation even made it to theaters
It was probably because this movie was distributed by The Weinstein Company. They were also the ones who added celebrity voices.
This movie introduced me to the feeling of dread as a young young child lol
the main fault of this movie is the animation. I think it calls for a remaster since it’s lowkey a cult classic
I never got that circle wipe joke until now 😂😂😂
This was my first introduction to nonlinear story telling as a child and I loved it
Robots came out around the same time and had a budget of 75 mil. Hoodwinked had a budget of 8 mil. If anything is worth a remake it is this movie, though tbh I like how janky it is. I think it's charming.
I’m glad that this movie wasn’t released today because they would’ve made 20 screaming goat jokes with the singing goat
Im glad you liked the be prepared moment cause i replayed that so much as a kid to the point the dvd stopped working
2:30
They are just carrying on the proud animation tradition with a great lineage, all the way back to Hannah-Barbara!
"imagine watching this in a theater" - i don't have to imagine it.. but in my defense, it wasn't my idea.
Portuguese dub really sold this shit out in Brazil, lol 🇧🇷
Same thing in Mexico 😅 with the Spanish dub
Finally, true cinema
W Phillipines animators
World capital for awful animations.
@@HermitKing731 If I dragged a dozen guys out of the janitor's break room and told them they were animating a feature length CGI film I'd expect awful animations too.
This movie is a complete shitpost, that's why people love it even after decades since the release.
Not this fever dream of a movie 😭
Cat bf giggling every time smth painful happens
i love how the cop is a pig though
I will admit I'm weirdly nostalgic for this movie. Watched it a ton growing up. I remember thinking it looked hella impressive lmao
thank you so much for exhuming this poorly animated nostalgia corpse for me i love it
A poet could not capture in words my elation that he watched my childhood watch-on-repeat film
I remember seeing it as a kid when it comes out, and its flaws really didn't stand out. It hit the notes of keeping children entertained, which is nice, and feels like an acid trip as an adult. Not a cool life-changing trip, or a bad trip, but just a mildly uncomfortable one that you don't regret.
Man, watching this movie in English is always a jarring trip. I'm so used to the Latin American dub and its humor I usually watch it once a year. It's so bad I love it.
At some point, someone had to ask, "Hey, what if we made a children's version of Rashomon, but made it stupid."
This movie looked dated as soon as it came out and yet it still feels like a passionate team tried to make it. There's so much effort, personality and little intricacies. I love it, and people don't give it enough credit
I'm going to die on this hill, so hear me out: if it were better animated, Hoodwinked would be considered a classic of animated comedies up there with the likes of Shrek.
Hoodwinked is quite the nostalgic one for me too.
Watched this when I was in the hospital as a kid idk rather would’ve had amazing world of gumball but it wasn’t that bad
This movie was my 2nd favorite to Hocus Pocus in the 5th grade. I watched both 24/7
It's so wild how I NEVER saw anything wrong or distracting about the animation.
I just kind of watched the movies on their terms.
My parents had a Dodge van with one of those tiny TV screens that folded down from the ceiling (it was old even then, but it was so cool to me). This was the only movie I ever remember us being able to make work on the van screen. I have very distinct sensory memories of watching this when I was like 6-7 years old, being violently motion sick, and thinking this movie looked horrible. And I had really low standards then
There was a time where Cartoon Network use to hook me up with this, the Shrek movies, Open Season, Monster House, Scary Godmother, and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies. And some other movies I don’t remember right now, but just full of childhood. Those were the times.
Good times😂
as low as the budget is, and whacky the visuals are, its legit a decent movie with a fun plot.
Funny thing, when I watched Rashomon with my dad he said "This movie reminds me of Hoodwinked"
This is some core memory shit, personality defining, like Emperor's New Groove and Shrek
When the writing FAR outpaces the animation
This is one of those weird movies I have nostalgia for.
8:45 best YMS reaction ever haha
I watched this in the theaters as a teen. I wonder if the fact that it wasn't shown with a digital full hd image quality helped with how the film looked
I regret clicking this.
The “XXX” Vin Diesel bit with the Grandma was a blur I never thought Id have to see again.
If the animation was good this film would be a certified classic.
It’s not really that funny. It’s just mid crude humor and tryhard breakdancing grandma jokes.
@@spencerlane415 why are you replying to multiple people in the comments telling them they're wrong for enjoying the movie? you've even used the breakdancing grandma line twice
@@mutantfreak48 never said they’re wrong.. I just don’t really understand what’s there if the animation was suddenly better.
I still get ptsd flashbacks from those dam Schnitzel kids
honestly feel like you could make a really funny edit of everything Adum says in this, onto Xavier Renegade Angel lol
Something that’s interesting is that this is the animators first time animating a movie and it shows. The budget was also so low that they couldn’t reanimate scenes so they had to stick with their first draft. That makes so much sense. Even if the animation is bad, you can still tell that the animator’s were still trying with the few resources they got and the action scenes during the skiing competition are definitely the highlight of the film and is probably where the animator’s used the majority of their skills on.
I had this movie on dvd when I was a kid. I can't even count how many times I watched it. I didnt think the animation was good back then either but I love a good mystery. The singing goat, tweaked squirrel and badass grandma were my faves.
Love the videos, man. Keep it up!!!
Whatever you're doing with the editing keep it up!!! I love hearing the highlights of your opinions while keeping the commentary funny and genuine:)
the way that this be prepared song still gets stuck in my head after almost 20 years lmao
Why the fuck does the frog have a subservient pet dog in a world with humanoid dogs, and a dog cop literally in the same room?
Me: Making fun of crappy movies is old hat and a waste of time
Me watching this: LOOK how bad the CGI is, HILARIOUS!
Regarding "imagine seeing this an a theater with unfinished animation", I saw a movie with my kids just a year or two ago called "Mummies" (I think), which was obviously something retranslated to English, AND had early 2000's knock-off aesthetics. I was absolutely shocked it was playing in my smaller local theater.
Actually mad at you for not including him yelling: SCHNIIITZEEEEEEL
Not me still randomly breaking into the goat songs or responding to ppl asking me if I'd like some coffee with a fast and high-pitched 'Oh, I don't drink coffee!'
It might not be a good movie, but its certainly entertaining
I'd argue that it actually is a good movie, animation aside
I really love these watch along edits!
One day this man will finish his Synechdoche New York series…maybe
So you're just going to focus on the animation the entire time? At what point do you accept the experience and instead focus on the marvelous voice acting and WONDERFUL (I'll have you know) script which is far better than the credit it receives. This is a cultured film for cultured people, and it's sad to see you just didn't get it.
Why doesnt he actually watch the movie, like we get it, the animation is terrible- how many times do you need to point it out?
It's hilarious to see Adum rip into this one.
Just like Cat BF, I was a young simple child who watched this and enjoyed it for what it was. A weird movie that had character, and that was enough for 5-6 year old me to like it.
I rewatched this movie when I was 12 or so, like 12 years ago and even then I recognized how bad it looked.
Thank you Cat BF for showing this to Adum.
I think Hoodwinked is a great example of showing you don't need good art to tell a good story, also love how Adum cinemasins the shit out of this
It's so good!!! Love this movie so happy to see you give it a shot
The three Gs on her neck was a reference to xXx (2002), a movie nearly everyone has forgotten.
Also, Hoodwinked 2 looks significantly worse.
Hoodwinked is such a gem
I still remember this film from back when I was a kid. Great honour to have Adam... experience stuff from your childhood
