    If Poseidon is committing to the machined dropouts that bolt onto the chainstay/seatstay, then you should just have separate dropouts for 27.5 and 29. With the 29 having a longer effective chainstay length so you can maintain chainring clearance. Plus you'd be able to manipulate the bb drop so it works better for each wheelsize. With a 29/27.5 swappable bike, a 29 100mm fork with 29" wheels will have about the same stack as a 140mm 27.5 setup. So you could have a 29 xc bike and 27.5 trail bike all in one with swappable rear dropout things, whatever you call them. The brake mount would probably have to be attached to the dropout things though and not the frame.

    29 x 2.4....yep! And a gold star for the rear brake mounting with the cable going down! So many current bikes have the cable going up, a water entry hot spot if you don't run hydraulics. One last thing....Being me, I'd add another boss for adjusting water bottle mounting 😁

    @mattd7814 Před rokem +7

    Good call on mounting the rear caliper on top of the seat stay instead of between the chainstay and seatstay. Also makes it easier to upgrade to larger rear rotors. For the rear brake hose routing external is fine but centered zip tie bosses on the bottom of the top tube would be sweet so it would also work well with moto style brakes (rear brake lever on the left), or if it ends up internal double ports on both side would be sweet!

    @janeblogs324 Před rokem +3

    5:00 if you criss cross the brake/mech hoses/cable exiting this hole, then put really tight zip ties on the first mount you will get more tyre clearance to the cables.
    I had a factory 2.3" tyre buzz thru my brakes this year. Once you tweak the rim slightly you'll lose brakes in 1 km or less.

    The hanger is a bit disappointing. Would be nice to see something like the SRAM universal hanger so it can be found in just about every shop and replaced cheaply.

    The external routing looks amazing and well thought out. Also that frame screams 29er wheels. I still think that full hydrolic may be the way to go for the small price incease. I am so down to get this when it goes into production

  • @ultragucci

    Here are some things I would change:
    1. Shorten the head tube as much as possible. When swapping forks or getting used forks, many people cut their steerer tubes down and looking at the head tube on the bike, it seems long by a good 2cm which can make a big difference when shopping for a used fork.
    2. Bottle mounts. Add at least 2 or three more sets. On the seat tube, under the top tube near the seat tube, on top of the top tube near the steerer tube. This is to mount accessories, tools, mounts to carry tubes, pumps, bags, etc. Adding mounts eliminates the need for straps around the frame. Do this on all frame sizes, not just medium and large.
    3. ISCG 05 tabs. I am not sure if they are on there, but having the option to run a top guide, lower bash or full chain guide is a big plus.
    4. Shorten the chainstays. If you rework the junction between the chainstays and the BB you can still have room for 29er wheels.
    5. Include an extra derailleur hanger with the bike.
    6. if you do not include a dropper post, include a QUALITY seat quick release so that people and raise and lower their seats with ease.
    7. Ensure that a 200mm rotor will fit on the rear of the bike.
    8. Have two options for rear brake hose routing. External on the top tube, seat stay and internal.
    9. Consider having two options for the rear shift cable as well. Given the smooth straight line of the top tube to the seat stay, putting dual hose tabs on the under side of the top tube, the line will stay clean and cable/hose routing is simple and quick to access.
    10. A rubber molded chain stay protector to keep the bouncing chain totally silent would be nice.
    Good luck

    another way to achieve the 2 wheel sizes, with less compromises, is have swappable drop outs. Would just take modifiying the brake side... chainstay gets longer and more BB drop for 29". you can now have the short chainstay on the 27.5 set up as well.

    Yeah I agree the shifting cable is great internally routed but brake would be amazing externally. Is the bb shell 68mm or 73mm or something else? Moving to a wider bb shell would help with clearance for the 29er wheels. It keeps getter better and better great work.

    I ordered the Poseidon Norton frame last week. Received it a few days ago to discover the top of the headtube was dented in so I couldn't insert the top headset bearings. Poseidon is sending a replacement frame for free but unfortunately, I am having to send the damaged frame back, wait for them to inspect it, and then they will ship out the replacement frame and in the meantime, I don't have a bike to ride. I'm kind of angry that they aren't just shipping the frame out immediately. I don't suppose you can use some of your pull to get them to ship out the frame immediately. They'll know who I am when you mention the dented headtube.

    Rear brake routing comment here. I’m also a total home mechanic hack. I taught myself to poorly bleed hydraulic brakes. I upgraded the brakes on my MTB and first thing I did was cut the rear brake hose down to size even though it was pre-bled. I’m not saying route the rear brake external for this reason, but my take is folks who are gonna install a rear brake themselves are going to be able to bleed it as well. I don’t know. I’m honestly torn on external vs internal on the rear brake. End ramble.

    • @skyroach7158
      @skyroach7158 Před rokem

      Also, I really need to know more about the mechanical disc brakes on this bike. The levers look crazy crazy sketch. One finger braking is probably one of the best upgrades I’ve made that’s improved my ability on aggressive terrain so I’m personally sensitive to crappy brakes.

  • @jordanblack334
    @jordanblack334 Před rokem

    is the xcm 34 a coil fork? if so I'd recomend trying to spec the bike out with at least suntours cheapest air fork before thinking about adding a dropper to the stock build. I'm assuming the pricepoint this bike will be at will put it competing with the vitus nucleus and the air fork is what helps set it apart from most other hardtails in the pricerange. but otherwise geometry, boost spacing, tapered headtube, and through axles are all good and necessary choices.

  • @TryboBike
    @TryboBike Před rokem

    If you added a removable dropouts on both sides then the bike could be easily convertible to 142x12 or 148x12 ( or 157x12 ) and 27.5/27.5+/29 wheels. Also - a bike without an ability to run 38T ring ( or a double ring front ) is useless for me. But that is my preference, I guess.

    I’m a bit slow and frequently wrong but I have also worked as an industrial mechanic and will never understand the point of putting grease on the outside of a sealed bearing like you did with your headset. All that does is make contaminants that make their way into the head tube stick to the outside of the bearing. Please explain.

But I also do not have clear coat on the frame. So my frame was scratched the second it touched the air basically. Does anyone else have any experience with that stuff?
    I thought maybe it just doesn't come with a clear coat. But I can clearly see it on this frame, and my brother got an X, and he has a clearcoat. Although he seems to have had a few mishaps with his bike from the factory.
    Anyone else have any experience? Are we just incredibly unlucky? This mountain bike looks amazing, and looks like it honestly could be my next mountain bike, but I'm just worried to get it because of the issues my brother and I have both had with our X
