  • In today's RV life video we are sharing 20 things we hate about full time RVing. After living, traveling and camping on the road for 4 years we have had a lot of good experience and bad experiences. Campgrounds, boondoocking, driving, people, cliques, and the reservation system are all addressed in this video.

    I follow a lot of nomadic CZcamsrs and I have noticed lately that more and more of them are traveling in packs and their channels are suffering. Many nomads with the same videos and all they do is eat and compare equipment. I love you guys. Thanks for this video as you were right on the money.

    I am Canadian but live as a permanent in the US. I always think getting a nice big rv would be so much fun but after seeing your sobering videos, I begin to have doubts. First off: I like my privacy and quiet. Seeing those lots with everyone cramped closely together, it makes me uncomfortable just seeing it. And the trash that Americans just leave everywhere shocks me. The national parks in Canada are so clean and pristine. My American wife was so surprised the first time I took her to Banff Alberta because it was so clean. We get lots of money when we return our recycle bottles and cans, so it is a great incentive to pick up. In Texas you don’t have that so there is so much garbage. We live close to the ocean and when we walk out the jetty there is shameful trash everywhere. If they would get money for returning them this problem would disappear quickly. Having strangers walking through my camp site would be a huge turn off for me. Maybe it is not the life fore me.

    All good points but public hot tubs can be nasty and dirty and just pools for germs. There is no telling what folks do in them. We've done quite a bit of camping and only one time in Valdez Alaska at a camp ground downtown, did we have someone walk through our site. I was outside drinking coffee and the sites were close when this gentleman walked between the camper on our passenger side and our picnic table. I asked him what he was doing and he said, oh I'm just cutting through to my site. I politely asked him to walk around next time as I was paying for the site and was concerned about people walking around my rig. I think he was going to argue, but then simply said no problem and walked off.

    People with small children often park away from those without children so that they don't feel like their children are bothering others. I have a much nicer experience without having to constantly ask my kids to be quiet. Also, I don't want my children around childless people who are swearing and talking about inappropriate things in their presence. They're only little once, leave them innocent!

    I think your comments about sub-groups were too strong. As you said people with common interests draw together. I have "invaded" subgroups and have always been welcome as a fellow RVr.
    On recycling: We try to recycle but it does us no good when recycling bins are put out with no instructions on what is accepted. Every place is different and they even change over time. Putting in something not acceptable locally contaminates the whole batch so better not to put it in if you are unsure.

  • @jeepsandrvs

    Great list - I agree with them all. I would likely add a couple of more, LOL. I don't consider ourselves full-timers rather part timers because we have an RV casita as a home base - but we plan to travel half the year. A few miles down the road, at least the manager at a Target let me spend 2 nights. Well happy travels.

    After 40 years of living on the road as a long haul heavy hauler, having to load and unload in all types of weather and having to deal with all of the restrictions that go with oversize loads. I don't want to boondock or just drive blindly down the highway. I can understand where that might be attractive to many.

    Some nice thoughts. Thank you. I would as far as pulling over for cars vehicles behind you. If you are doing the speed limit why should you have to pull over? Then if there are not safe pull out areas you really can not. Just my thoughts. Thanks again.

    • @outliersoverland
      @outliersoverland  Před 5 lety

      Thanks for watching.
      In many states, despite speed limit, it’s illegal to hold up 5+ vehicles. In the modern world speeds are dictated by the flow of vehicles on the road, not a government assigned number.
      If a driver/vehicle is holding up traffic and causing other drivers to pass recklessly, it is their responsibility to pull over and let people pass.
      I don’t want someone’s death on my conscious, if I could simply just pull over....
      This really hits home after seeing blood on the highway and being personally effected.

    • @ronaldpigeon4713
      @ronaldpigeon4713 Před 5 lety +2

      @@outliersoverland Thank you. I have pulled trailers before and it was very dangerous to pull over to allow traffic to pass and then try to get back on the roads. Of course I am taking about through mountains. I would normally pull over if there is a pullout area and was safe to do so. So if they are speeding, and I am at the speed limit, I must pull over for safety reasons so they can continue to speed or not pass unsafely while speeding? I understand the law is the law. Like I said I would pull over when safe to do so but getting back into the road can be dangerous as well. Thanks great conversation.

    Great info! I live in SoCal and can't wait to get out, the reservation system isn't the only thing mismanaged here, and there are just WAY too many people. A couple of quick questions: How can I determine if an RV is gonna be able to handle going through mud , sand, gravel roads etc if I wanna boondock somewhere? Where do you go to wash your RV? Truck stops mostly?

      @outliersoverland  Před 4 lety

      That’s a tough question, but generally speaking 4wd helps. Weight and length are important.
      In the L48 we just search RV car washes and pull up images to see if the facility can handle our rig.
      In this case there’s a RV park in Tok, Alaska that we use to wash off mud.
      Hope this helps.

    I guess I see it. Interesting people might not have solar. Just because you’re “enlightened” doesn’t mean someone else does not have something special to add to your experience. The only caveat to that is that traveling companions should have similar RVs, similar equipment, capabilities and constraints. This provides a synergy that is not obvious, obvious only in retrospect. A FUSO kinda puts you into a niche. Your last Baja trip is perhaps illustrative of such a situation. (Your dog’s health issue, notwithstanding, there are good vets in Baja. Did you look?) Ultimately (sadly) we must stick with our own kind, especially on the road. You’re overlanders. Be proud of who you are!

      @outliersoverland  Před 5 lety +1

      Hey. Thanks for watching for so many miles.
      We didn’t have solar until this camper and used generators for years in the RV.
      There is something to be said about traveling with equally capable vehicles.
      There are amazing vets in Baja and we even took Shelby to one in Loreto and he gave her an injection for nasuea that worked for a day. The heat and not having AC was a greater issue. Shelby is on steroids and very temperature intolerant. 65 seem to be her happy spot and it was 90.
