- Going from Seattle across the Puget Sound to Eagle Harbor on Bainbridge Island. Oct 2012. Nice 70 degree sunny day. Didn't notice til we got to Eagle Harbor that the 150% Genoa tore in the winds. You can see the tear in the video. All and all was a very fun day.
Let the genny out too fast, let the wind unfurl it full speed. Will unfurl it more slowly in the future and and all the way in stronger winds. We are still learning.
That tiller seems positioned so far forward! How do you like it there? And how do you move around it for a tack?
We love it. These pre 1980 sailboats were overbuilt. Very thick fiberglass. The marine surveyor said the hull is in pristine shape. We feel lucky to have this boat.
ToeamWim: You are most likely correct. We made this video on one of our first trips out on this boat. If you look carefully, we also tore the Genoa sail up towards the top by letting it out too fast in high wind. We have since had the sails cleaned and repaired. Thanks for your comment!
Love the vid. Fellow Seattle sailor here. I have a Ranger 29, also 1974. I love the 70's vintage sailboats - well built, hand-laid glass, solid and sturdy. How do you like your Ericson?
it seems to me that you have forgotten to loosen the topping lift. Correct me if I'm wrong!
Nice. We sail an 1970 Alberg 37 north of you in the San Juan Islands. Here is our sailing song, recorded in Bellingham, with photo montage of sailboats. czcams.com/video/NWdNZci2TDE/video.html
