  • Initial pickup and cruise in my buddy's new C-Dory 22' Cruiser. We get it in the water, into its new home, then take it out to enjoy an overcast PNW day.

Used to live there. Miss the water; boating, fishing, crabbing. That is the PERFECT BOAT for the sound/ Hood canal area. You are living the dream. Looking forward to seeing more from you.

Just posted a new video about crabbing in the Puget!

Thanks for taking us along. I'm in the market for the same boat. Keep these videos rolling. It gave me a great sense for the size of the cabin and layout. Greetings from NC! 😎👍

I'd like to chime in here. We love C-Dory, we had NMI build a new custom 23 a few years ago. They did an amazing job. I won't go into all the detail but we sold it a year later and are now looking at a much larger and deeper V boat. Like the Sea Sport. If I knew then what I know now I would not even look at a C-Dory. I would have gone straight with a 26 Sea Sport at least. You truly get what you pay for. Unless you are using the C-Dory as just a bay boat on good days I'd say go Sea Sport. Many will disagree. I get that. I just see no reason to get a C-Dory from NMI when they make the Sea Sport, a much, much better vessel. I suppose this is 100% a money issue. I also get that. My only advice is to really, really decide EXACTLY how you will use it and how much you are willing to compromise on safety and where and when you'd like to go. Not that a C-Dory is not safe, within her means. Our friends and many others that had C-Dorys talked us into ours. I felt in my gut it was not the right boat for us, and it was not. She was a beautifully crafted boat and I did love her. But once we used it in anything but good seas we realized we had made a mistake. That is a very personal statement. Your mileage may differ. But I feel everyone you talk to about a C-Dory is just trying to sell you on a compromise and are justifying their purchase. Maybe she is the perfect vessel for you and your needs. If so, you are in amazing hands with NMI for sure. C-Brats is an amazing group to belong to as well, we met so many amazing and friendly folks. Please don't take this as a dump on C-Dory. Just be 100% positive on how you are going to use her. Also, your comfort level and desires might be completely different from mine or others. Your idea of safety will also be much different than mine or others as well. For cruising around the PacWest on decent days she is a fine vessel for sure and we had many awesome days on ours and our friends '22. If this gets you into boating and that's what you can afford she is perfect. If you have the funds, I'd at least sea trial something bigger, and then you can at least compare.

Kirk, I really appreciate your input here. I am going to look at a c-dory 22 tomorrow, and a sea trial is not possible-I have not ridden in one. The flat bottom and wave pounding concern me, but the trailering weight and ability to move into shallow water are good features for us. We are trying to keep the tow weight below 5,000... I also want the outboard and same cabin arrangement-dinette/galley counter. Hoping you could give any suggestions?? Thanks, Randy

As I sit here in a rare Southern California blizzard, I wistfully admire your boat and dream for a boat like this……..some day soon I hope. I very much enjoyed your video. Not much water here in the high desert…but plenty of snow currently. Have fun and be safe.

Your video is so cool. It turns out that I live on Vashon and drive by Pt Defiance all the time. I have been looking at getting a C-Dory for a long time. I hope you do more videos on how the boat is working out for you. Smooth sailings.

Being an ex US Radarman, I wouldn’t mind having a small boat like this to go from Sacramento to San Francisco and up and down the coast a few miles. I think this boat could handle the ocean up to sea state 3 maybe.

Wish I had known about this boat before we purchased our AR195, we are enjoying it, but not really made for cruising like the C-Dory. We plan to trade for one in the next few years. For now we are loving it being out on the ICW. Congratulations on the purchase!

Congrats! I want one too, I am thinking about a 25 ft so I have more room for my kids and a head. Not sure if my full size truck can haul it though. Those may take a heavier duty truck.

Cute little wee boat. Probably best to use it on a lake or close in protected waters.

It's only 22' but C Dorys are known for their strength and stability in rough waters. It's completely enclosed construction helps with this. Many documented crossings of the Columbia Bar in Oregon (one of the most dangerous bar crossings in the world, and where US Coast Guard trains).
