The issue is that the drive controller is made from cheap electronic components that aren't thoroughly tested or designed well to handle dirty power or high heat. Then they're dipped in epoxy so you can't just solder in a new $0.50 capacitor. You need a who new unit or controller.

The AC at my mother’s house had the same type of motor in it. It wasn’t under warranty when it failed and I couldn’t understand why a standard on/off unit would benefit from an ECM motor so I found a PSC motor with similar power/rpm and installed it since the oem motor was so expensive. It’s been running ever since and hasn’t given us any other problems. I guess the engineers have some reason for using the fancy motor though, at least they’re equipping them with high pressure controls.

    • @tomtom1541
      @tomtom1541 Před 2 lety +1

The ECM motor uses about 20% less energy and can adjust for restricted airflow though the coil. In more advanced units it will run at different speeds to control head pressure.

the electronic junk itself is chock full of lies and issues that makes it all fail early on and guessing life expectancy of said items, I'd say 95% of it never comes close to the target life expectancy as claimed by manufacturers and data sheets, so how can anyone design or build anything with components that are junk to start with!

Its more efficient and you can get any speed you program into it. You have a permanent magnet in the center and you control the flux(Mag field) that surrounds that Permanent magnet. If there Neodymium permanent magnets you can get a lot more power out of it for much less wattage going into it compared to a Induction motor. These High Seer systems every extra watt saved helps plus a large fan turning at 645 Rpm is much quieter than one turning at 1100 Rpm.

Well you can mix, it's not that big of deal when there is less than 1 lb in the system. I was out of Freon due to leak. So its not a fail. Just didn't have to pay $100 a pound for R22. Which was marked up by ac company 1000%. I still believe in doing things yourself because companies ripoff people. But i still follow you regardless of your feelings for a do-it-yourselfer. Unit has been working efficiently and better than ever. The AC company wanted to replace the condenser when there wasn't anything wrong with it. A fan motor and a cap. That "mix" as you call it does not circulate oil properly and will eventually toast the compressor... but no reason not to live out the last days with the savings of a few extra bucks though so more power to ya !! However if you have watched my videos for very long you would know I certainly do not "rip off" anyone, and I was smart enough to stockpile R22 back before it skyrocketed. For many years my refill or "top off" price was 215.00 and only this year did I go to 255.00. I don't care if it is one pound or 5 pounds, that is my flat rate, if I charge at all. I actually give away more than I sell in order to "nurse the sale" of the new system which is actually the best move in most cases. The outdoor motor and cap from us is anywhere from 340.00 to 415.00 depending on the unit... (slightly more for an OEM motor) If you think the HVAC industry is a rip off... try buying trucks, tools, insurance, payroll, licences, stocking parts, etc etc etc... you will see things a little more realistically after you do all that !! Regardless, thank you for watching my videos and I hope you continue to do so... DIY guys will always gain a lot from youtube videos.

I'm in a different country but the x13 motor isn't common here, most of the equipment here is Japanese and they call it a brushless DC motor. We have a couple of split systems that are just over 5 years old with no issues whatsoever. But they use motors made by someone like nidec, Panasonic or Fujitsu so they have much higher quality than GE or whoever currently makes the x13 replacement. Thus, the motor was receiving voltage and the low voltage signal. What is that low voltage reading between yellow and blue? You did not mention and I could not read the meter in the video. I ask because my ECM physically shows signs of failure. In testing the plug, I have 240Vac at the plug (black-red), but have 65Vac on the low side between yellow and blue on the plug. Does the fact that there is 6 months of darkness at the south pole contribute to lack of ozone there?
Why doesn't Clorox, pool chlorine, or chlorine from seawater (NaCl "salt water) deplete ozone?
Why do CFC's only deplete ozone at the south pole?
Why are CFCs the only source of high-atmosphere chlorine?
Being heavier than air, how do CFCs reach the stratosphere, which starts 6 miles up?

Could you tell me the amount of voltage present on the Blue and Yellow Wires, when they are commanding the ECM to run? (At 9:50 on your video)
Also, is it AC or DC?
I'm in Dallas and last Friday, the only dealer who had the motor in stock, wanted $750 for me to buy the motor from them.
I opted to purchase the ECM Motor on Ebay for $495 with shipping and tax.
To keep my family cool while waiting for Ebay's motor to arrive, I bought 3 Window AC Units from Lowes, for $540.
    Total, I spent $1035.
    $1035 - $750 (Local Dealer) = $285
So, for $285, I bought three, 5,000 BTU Window Units at $95/each.
The 3 window units will come out when the new ECM Motor goes in, later this week.

Look at all the wasteful cr*p the consumer gets stuck with! Because of the EPA and its ozone depletion quackery!
      The Nonsense That is Ozone-Depletion
      "Holes" in the ozone argument:
      1) Freon is heavier than air: how do molecules heavier than air get to 30,000 feet (the beginning of the stratosphere)?
      2) The "hole" in the ozone over the South Pole was "discovered" by satellites in the '80: if it was just "discovered", how do we know IT WASN'T THERE ALL ALONG ? ? ? ?
      3) There is a perfectly logical reason why there is less ozone over the polar regions: THERE IS LESS SUNLIGHT THERE TO PRODUCE OZONE IN THE FIRST PLACE, especially in winter ("land of the midnight sun...")
      4) Antarctica (South Pole) has the highest average elevation of any continent (8000 ft): Does that have any effect on ozone quantity????? (The North Pole is all at sea level and there is no ozone "hole" there. (Why not?)
      5) The offending atom is CHLORINE (very common), not CFCs themselves. The argument goes that the CFCs carry CHLORINE up to the stratosphere. There are other compounds of chlorine in the atmosphere -- that's one of the things you smell when you go to the beach --> "salt water" --> i.e. sodium-chloride. Is the ocean a source of "ozone depleting" chlorine compounds?
      6) Most basic of all, ozone (O3) is an EFFECT of UV blockage, not a cause. [O3 is an unstable molecule that needs a lot of energy to produce, e.g. the ozone you smell around arcing engines. There is less ozone at the poles b/c there is less UV to generate it (just like there is less sunlight to keep the place warm in the first place.
I hope the public is beginning to see how dubious this ozone scam is. Monstrous mistakes like this DO happen - think the ban on DDT and malaria deaths.
