  • Testing the throttle only range of the 2022 Bee Challenger from Bee Cool Bikes. This bike has an enormous 48v 30ah battery pack. How far can you go without pedaling..

    At around 4:08 there was a guy with an e-trike. That's the route I've gone. Last year I'd taken a spill on my Rize. Once that happened, I came to the conclusion that I needed three wheels instead of two, so what I have is similar to the gent you came across, without he canopy and the fairing. The result? I feel safer, am happier and I'm still riding.
    As always I've enjoyed watching your videos and look forward to more.

    Another superbly done range test! A 48v 30Ah battery is 1440 watt hours, so your watt hours per mile (watt hours divided by miles) is 34.28, which is not bad, but not the best (the higher the number, the less efficient the bike is. I'm just glad *I* didn't have to pedal that beast home! 😂

    Awesome range test, even with the 'Painful ending'. However I noticed the squeaking near the end as you were pedaling, are the breaks dragging? That would make the pedaling tougher than it should be. Anyway thanks again for your 'work' in this vid, please keep up the videos - they are very informative and enjoyable to watch. I'll be thinking of you as I start out my spring e-bike riding of my new Rad Rover5 that I bought last fall, love the bike.

    Received my Challenger 3 weeks ago! Looks great and rides well!
    However it came with screeching brakes; the brake pads were of low quality and poorly installed so I paid to have the brakes calibrated and I also got new brake pads! After riding it a few days it stopped working while I was on the road. Turns out that the controller blew out and upon inspection the controller was missing some screws and partially open!
    I was told that they would send a new controller but all tte parts are in China so it would take 3-4 weeks! I asked for expedited shipping and they said no. I asked to return the bike since there is a 14 day return policy; after that I received an email stating that the controller would be sent via expedited shipping!
    I received an email this morning saying that the controller was sent but no tracking info was available; which means that it was sent via regular mail. It was sent the same day the 14 day return window ended for me So I have a $2800 bike that I rode a few times and now I can’t ride for at least a month. Needless to say that I’m bummed out about this,; but more bummed out about them lying to me about the shipping! I haven’t heard back from them since I asked for proof of shipping the new controller!
    I love this bike but Bee Cool doesn’t live up to their name and their business practices are questionable 🤷🏽‍♂️

    Thanks for the great video Joe. So, 1000W 48V 30AH 98-lbs got 42 miles, full throttle? That is impressive! I'm in Oklahoma and we're pretty flat here. I'm thinking the 750w motor might get an even 50 mi here being less hilly... What do you think? As for speed, we're officially limited to 20 mph anyway...

    An additional battery with a blender could be added for about 325.00. Thinking of adding that to my Sondors Mad Mods.
    That Bee is a sweet bike. And that battery is one of a kind and 30 ah is insane. Does it feel top heavy at all? It's still 20 lbs lighter than a Mad Mods thought. I had to pedal a few miles once!. All I can say about that is it's a great workout 🤪

    Get the 750 for a toy. I have one. It’s fun, brakes not the best. Could use a fork upgrade and stronger front axel for hard hits. Cruising is fun.

    Are you sure the distance setting on the bike wasn't in kilometers? I'm asking because when the bike was reading 50.6 you said your gps was reading 32 miles. If you do the math 32 miles equals about 50.6 kilometers.

    It's off because of the wheel size most likely and that's probably why the odometer and speedometer are wrong.

    Hi, when you talk about balancing a battery what do you mean and how do you do that. Thanks, Chris

    • @Altema22
      @Altema22 Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Chris, e-bike battery packs are a collection of individual battery cells (usually strung together in groups of 13 for a 48 volt battery), and if one of the cells has a lower voltage than the others, it can reduce the overall performance of the battery pack. Balancing a battery means allowing any cells with a lower voltage to "catch up" and come into balance with the other cells, so the all have a similar power level. Most batteries have passive balancing, and you perform this by leaving it on the charger for a length of time after the battery is full (several hours in most cases). This process is only needed when a battery pack is new, or has been in storage for a while. Some batteries have active balancing, and a processor in the battery pack balances the cells out during the charge cycle, so you don't need to do anything but charge it normally a few times. Hope this helps!
