Oh, Lord. I guess only the 2023 Hollywood Strike can save them now. When busy writers and VFX designers quit their jobs altogether, it can stop superhero films from continuing to be oversaturated, or at least give the audience more time to catch up on older Marvel Studios content made before 2023. At least do not overwork the writers of the DC Cinematic Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe by rushing them to put together a dozen new films or streaming series every year. Writers and Actors not only deserve more money to make these big studio productions, they also need more *time* to make them, and that is why Kevin Feige and James Gunn really need to spread their long-term plans further out to be four years longer than they originally were in 2023.

Not in the sense that we are too old for superhero movies, but that we've seen and experienced all that there was from this franchise, and have now moved on. I cant say this is a cold hard fact when the comics have existed since the early 20th century, and yet they still pull audiences consistently and generate new storylines. As long as there are people alive on this planet, there will consistently be new ideas formed. The multiverse was something already occurring relatively early in the 21st century, and that created many many more ideas and concepts to pull from. Its mainly a flaw of bad writers and directors trying to copy and paste what was previously good and transmit it into the new generation, without actually realizing everything that made those movies good.

As soon as Dr. Strange listened to Peter Parker to alter the past or whatever, I knew it was over for the MCU. Dr. Strange was the all-seeing eye of the MCU before Endgame. He was the glue that held everything together, maintained an authoritarian and highly responsible stance and demeanor that no one else could see except him. He had the answer to beating Thanos and yet never told a soul except for one tiny hint to Stark in the end. But then...he does a complete 180, ignores Wong's advice, and quickly does what a teenager wants so he can go to MIT?! That is so highly irresponsible from someone that became a literal god in his abilities and still does something that stupid. Not to mention the cringey manner in which he performed the spell, with no thought process whatsoever. The movie ended up being great with all the nostalgia and all, but I knew the MCU was going to suffer from that day forward. There are just too many possibilities, scapegoats if you will, that now, like many comics before them actually, have absolutely no end to them. Yes, there were The Eternals and that f*cking dumba$$ movie with Strange and Wanda, but those were sidequests...which we all thought it wouldn't be, so then we thought Antman Quantumania would be the one to kickstart it all. Well...not exactly. The one tidbit I did feel had hope in rescuing this debacle in Quantumania was his last scene with the Wasp and Kang which should have ended in the Quantum world, them being trapped and providing us with some sort of cliffhanger that would have made the series interesting again. It also would have made Kang a deeper part of the MCU's future phases and the overall lore. Instead, he dies or disappears or whatever, and Cassie instantly brings the portal back to Scott and Hope, and they all lived happily ever after. It was so dang lame, and incredibly disappointed at Disney for allowing this to happen. That was the final nail in the coffin for the MCU and it's as if they didn't even know it. And they will continue to not realize it. On to the DCU I guess (cringe).

I feel like they should have made Eternals a series. And the writers should have been asked to mandatorily sign a contract that said they won't bring their personal beliefs about races, religions, politics that are not relevant to the characters into the story (aka, non-woke folks). It could have been the start of a universe other than the one where Avengers lived and died (for the most part). But no, they had to stuff that big and good a cast into a fucking movie the length of a music video with the typical girl-powah and men-bad cringe. Sucks that we lost something that could have been yet another team of characters who could stand on their own and we would have cared for them.

      @teresar6348 Před měsícem

Dr. Strange (and maybe Thor if they didn't fudge his character so much by the end) would have been great characters to keep this universe going without feeling like a B grade reboot. As mentioned Dr. Strange has that similar charisma/arrogance. He is an intellectual, even if in a different set of fields. He clearly has a lot of power even without the time stone, and the relevant knowledge to make sense to lead a world where time travel had to get established. Thor is one of the last avengers left in full fighting capacity (Tony is dead, Natasha is dead, cap is old, banner clearly isn't going full rage monster route, and hawkeye is the only other option beyond him). Thor also having another 4000 years left to live means that you don't have to start panicking about your character needing to retire, just having to worry about actors. Since Asgard is Earth bound for now, the whole 'Thor is off world and we can't call' didn't have to be an issue til the end of endgame decision to ship him with the guardians for 10 minutes. Plus these 2 characters have clearly met and are not mortal enemies and have at least 1 pivotal decision against Thanos that can motivate them forward, whether said action was right or wrong.
Then that got tossed down the gutter cause idk how much of the future MCU was planned before infinity war was written, cause it really needed to be.

It would’ve been so easy to make Dr. Strange the anchor for the new phase. His character is similar to Tony Stark but different enough to grow and develop some nuance to create a backbone for all of the crazy Multiverse stuff. We saw in the first movie alone (not to mention all of the other times he was in other movies) that Dr. Strange is kind of a snob and developed a huge ego after being able to control literal time and space. This can be manipulated in so many different ways: he (understandably) believes he’s always right, so what happens when someone with his powers is wrong?; he shows an over-reliance on his powers, what happens if they stop working correctly?; what made him humble enough to go across the world for help and what scenario would show that humility again?; what if we started this phase showing how stable and reliable his is as a leader but then over time (multiple, well established movies over a normal course of 5 years or so) he starts to lose his mind and the very people he loved had to make the choice to go against him? These are just few of millions of questions that you could ask about his character. And I realize that some of this may seem simple, but the current writers at the MCU have clearly shown that they either hate simple or they literally are not good enough of writers to create simple. And I’m just talking about one character! Multiple characters with fairly simple stories with simple questions will create multifaceted and complex stories and writing without having to think too hard.
But instead, they made Dr. Strange into a joke, wrote him so that he directly goes against what he would actually do as the character, and has had no growth. That is a tragedy in my book. (He was one of my favorite characters in the MCU before No Way Home and Multiverse of Madness ruined that) Thank you if you read my rant. 😅
(Edit: I wrote this before I got to the part in the video where he talked about this so I edited it to go more into detail of what I’m talking about)

Its a shame too because Multiverse of Madness had every opportunity to take his character in interesting directions through his relationship with America Chavez & his dichotomy with Wanda but instead they just sidelined him and stuck alternate universe Christine in there, which gets in the way of his development with America whilst rehashing his whole too busy for a love life thing

    • @xpotoh356

We don't need Strange to go through "Ego" phase again, it's exactly what Disney likes to do - character regression, just to tell the same stupid words again and again.
There's another direction, which far better. Strange being a mentor. "Why do you think that world is centered on you", lesson about ego was done in his first movie, plus Strange even sacrificed himself just for the purpose of defeating Phanos. It's only natural that already "humble" Strange would become a mentor, instead of being an idiot for forgetting everything he went through.
How we can show Strange being a mentor?
Easy, Strange's magic doesn't work properly in other universes. I can even explain why it doesn't work and why it would be a good point for being a mentor.

I don't care if the character/name is from the comics...being "Marvel Comics" and "Marvel Studios" and the "Marvel Cinematic Universe"....and having a character BRANDED as "Captain/Miss Marvel" is the STUPIDEST thing ever. It is just an incredibly tacky move to go with.
Especially when they try to promote Captain Marvel as the strongest MCU character, and tried to "prequel-ize" her into being a key part of the backstory of the MCU, making her the first "Modern" Avenger after Captain America, predating Iron Man, and having her call-sign be the reason it was called the "Avenger Initiative"
It was REALLY annoying to see them force so much focus onto a brand new character right when the franchise was about to conclude with Endgame.

Reminds me of comparisons between the L4D and the Back 4 Blood trailers lmao. People wonder why that game flopped and people get annoyed with characters like this so easily..
Good characters can salvage a bad product in some capacity. If you make characters people care about, sure, this one adventure or incident may not have gone over well, but you can bring them back later and try again because the audience is invested. You can have weird CGI or graphics at times, or a simplistic story that's not too advanced, and if people care about who your story is about, they'll watch.
Problem is, even during serious moments or scenes, every damn character has turned into a one-liner spouting badass trynna be "quirky" and "funny" and not even in a good way. At first, it was novel because compared to other "edgy", over the top protagonists and stories that were shoulders-deep in trauma, here was a protagonist that didn't give two shits and acted like it. Think characters like Duke Nukem, Duke clearly doesn't care and is meant to be the stereotypical testosterone-packed badass "movie action hero" character, but at the time, he was one of the only ones.
Now with all of them like that, it feels hard to take the stories seriously or even care. When you go to get into a series or story and the main characters have no personality beyond swearing, sex jokes, or "cool guys don't look at explosions" one liners it's boring as hell. Not saying a character has to be some deep thinker every time who questions life, the universe, and our very existence, but at least have SOMETHING to make them relatable! Plus, PLUS, please stop ruining serious moments with stupid jokes. Seeing a giant creature rip apart a starship and kill thousands of people would I think be more impactful then just saying a line in a monotone voice similar to: "Damn, guess that thing wanted us to.. "ship" out eh? Alright let's kill it!"
I can name the characters that came from modern video media that I actually like on four fingers, and that's it. Even then the series they're from wasn't even that good, there are almost no good or at least relatable characters in modern movies or TV and I'm sick of it.
(Sorry for the rant, your comment inspired me to write something.)
TLDR: No good characters in modern film or TV as they're all too busy cracking ""jokes"" and one liners with no personality beyond "bland action hero" outside of that and I hate it.

No, I disagree. The Ruthless Aggression era still had guys like Eddie Guerrero, Chris [redacted], Batista, Edge, HHH, and even John Cena. 2001 to 2009 wasn't as good as the Attitude Era, but it was still pretty decent. I stopped watching WWE completely in 2013 and only know of it now through Botchamania, but I remember WWE had the PG Era in 2009 which sucked, then the Reality TV, "f*ck kayfabe" era n 2013 which was awful, then the Girlboss era in 2015 with goddamn Charlotte Flair and Nia Jax botching every single week. And from 2018 onward, I don't even know what they were doing.
The point is, WWE had a slow steady decline, getting worse and worse every era. The MCU had Endgame (and even that movie was average compared to the much better Infinity War,) then fell off a cliff with Wandavision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, Multiverse of Madness, Love and Thunder, Wakanda Forever, She Hulk Attorney at Law, Miss Marvel, etc. If its popularity was a line graph, Phase 4 would be at a 90 degree angle going straight down.

@@danielmokobia106 Just because the Marvel Cinematic Universe reached its peak with Avengers Endgame and Spider-Man No Way Home, does not mean it is ready to shut down or close up shop forever. During Phase 2 and Phase 3, Marvel Studios experimented with different types of television programming on ABC, Freeform and Netflix that harder-core Marvel fans can watch without worrying about how they connect to the larger cinematic universe, but still having some crossover connections to other Marvel films and shows. Most of the Disney+ shows that do not focus on side characters from earlier films, like Loki and Hawkeye do for examples, are a newer and lighter version of what Disney and Marvel used to do with Netflix, before launching Disney+. This is why I love watching What If, Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel so much.
Either Agents of SHIELD and the shows on Freeform and Netflix might as well be retroactively met with the same level of scrutiny that online reviewers currently give to the new wave of Disney+ shows and mini-series, or people who liked watching Inhumans, Daredevil and The Punisher should give each Disney+ series the fair shot they deserve to stand on their own individual quality or their own individual lack of quality. Either way, I do not think the Marvel Cinematic Universe is already dead just because Doctor Strange, Thor, Black Panther and Ant-Man had a string of mediocre sequels. Spider-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 were that 1 in 3 exception where a sequel to follow Avengers: Endgame to focus on an earlier hero was great and lauded critically. You literally can't tell any more stories with any weight or stakes in the MCU anymore,
.. as She Hulk can just jump out of the movie and rewind the scene, pause the movie or just explain to all of the Avengers that they are just actors in a movie and they aren't on "Mars" right now, it's just a soundstage and Ironman isn't "Gone" he's a character played by RDJ and he's standing over at craft services eating a donut,
... She Hulk can also tell Spiderman not to worry because Aunt May is fine as she was an actress played by Marissa Tomei and the Green Goblin was just the actor William Defoe reprising an acting job.
Once you introduce to your story that there is a character that can break the fourth wall and knows that it's all make believe and dress up, you have completely destroyed the possibility for investment of an audience in your story.
She Hulk can just rewind everything, interact with the writers and completely alter the reality and history of the MCU, ... so therefore you can't tell any stories within the MCU as you have a character that can reverse everything that happens on a whim.

It's affecting pretty much all movies as of late. I mean look at Elemental from Pixar. Weak opener, but after good word spread about it, it made more money than their past few projects combined. For 10 years, I was boring my Dad talking about MCU, and how anticipated the "final movie" at the time was.. got really into comic books, and could feel the weight of the infinity saga years before it was cemented. 2018 was a really special year because of it, and despite everything, my Dad finally became interested in it ally and it became a cornerstone of our daily discussions over the phone.. he obviously takes much more nuanced and serious ideas out of it, while I handle the more fantastical and mystical inplications, but the MCU at one pount was such a phenomena, my world war/history loving father, who at one point was vehemently against this idea of "too many movies to remember" when gave it a chance, sang his praises.

I think early Iron Man also provided some very necessary grounding of the characters to the "Real World". Starting off the franchise with basically 2008 era American Middle East War, and Tony Stark being "just some smart guy" made all of his technological and power advancements through the film very understandable. He blows up a tank, a jet, blocks some bullets... okay; that's understandable to the viewer. When Iron Man gets more powerful, you can relate his new suit to previous versions. When Captain America and Thor show up and dust knuckles with Iron Man, suddenly you can understand THEIR power in relation to everything else, and that understanding carries up the chain all the way to Endgame.
In MCU Phase 68.5, some arbitrary space wizard dude that was introduced in the currently being watched streaming show... pulls a multi-verse out of his b-hole and cuts a rock ice-monster dragon in half... nobody knows anything about what that means. At that point the magic and the power scaling has become completely broken and unintelligible. It has lost it's context. Can this new guy blow up a bus? Thanos? A planet? Could he multiverse portal Iron Man in half? What does that even mean for current and future villains and characters? Who knows... because it's lost it's grounding, and it's lost any sort of consistency due to the billions of writers more concerned about their own personal agendas than creating and contributing to a cohesive and enjoyable universe.
They need a reboot, but it hasn't been long enough, and the replacement could never catch the lightning in a bottle... so I guess I'm done with it for a long time.

Disney spent years trying to get rid of the "Star Name" in Hollywood. Anthony Mackie's "black capt America" talks about it in an interview there no star actors anymore and Disney is slowly getting rid of big name actors. But now that there's no star in the MCU there's no one to anchor the new phase like RDJ. Im sure they were thinking once RDJ leaves the brand will be big enough to not be at the mercy of big name actors anymore. They were wrong Now this new phase is floundering.

should have officially ended it there, leave everything after Tony's snap up to the imagination, use it as the excuse they needed to soft reboot anything that needed to reboot with new characters and new villains who weren't out to destroy the universe as we know it.
The MCU badly needed to step back into more personal, more self-contained stories to give the audience a chance to breathe and Disney an excuse to cut production costs. It would have probably meant lower box office takes anyway, but they'd have also given themselves many more chances to actually profit and expand their fan base with new brands. A good enough b-tier superhero movie made on a modest budget could still have been massively successful.
That's kind of what's so shocking about all this... what ultimately failed at Disney was their basic business sense

    • @jackmesrel4933

@@petriew2018 Funnily enough, the TV shows would've been the perfect way to give us smaller, down to earth stories, while they could've left the big bombastic events to the movies. For example, they could've taken some minor but popular heroes, like Daredevil or Blade, give them a villain of the week format and boom, regular content. Then, a show or two with more narrative importance but still smaller scale, like Wandavision if it kept the quality of writting it had the first episodes. Finally, for the big payoffs or just bigger stories, a movie or two a year. This way, they could've diversified the budgets instead of turning everything into basically the same gelatinous sludge Phase 4 and 5 have turned out to be. Hell, they had the Netflix Daredevil show to show them (heh) how a more street level story could work, just take notes on how they did it and adapt it to another superhero with the same scope, they basically had their work done for them

the issue I have when people talk about "oh, Marvel needs the Avengers" and "oh, Marvel really shouldn't be bringing in C or D tiers" is that, Iron Man wasn't exactly popular, yet the movie was. He was a B or C tier hero himself and yet, even with zero brand recognition for the MCU, his first movie was a breakout success. The issue is, and only ever has been, quality. 'Burnout' can impact performance but good word of mouth and brand building is what matters in the long run. Tons of people did ignore Andor because 'oh come on, *_another_* star wars thing?' but word of mouth kept spreading that, no, it was legitimately really good.

On your point with Tony, Tony in both the comics and film was central to Peter Parker’s involvement with Civil War. What THEY DID NOT DO, was have Tony catastrophically fail (which IS in character to Tony) to protect Peter’s personal and social life. When Aunt May’s life is targeted along with MJ and his friends, Tony abandons Peter, essentially saying “you knew the price of choosing my side”. Yes he got the fancy Iron Spider suit and tech, but at the cost of his morals.
The MCU AVOIDED this on purpose so they could extend Tony’s influence on Peter even if he died in Endgame. But this was a double edged sword. Yes it’s emotional to watch Peter cry over his THIRD father figure, and YES it’s convenient to have Stark Tech just fix every single freaking problem for Peter, but all you’re reminded of eventually is that you want Tony back. You eventually don’t even care about Tom as Spider Man because his WHOLE personality is REMINDING you about Tony, preventing us from moving on like he struggles to.

I liked how in Spectacular Spider-Man he was the guy, who was making supervillains, to prevent Spider-Man from spoiling plans of crime bosses, so he could do the same thing, just for TV shows. Maybe some mobsters, villains or even government hires him to distract heroes so they don't spoil their plans, or just as bodyguards/super servants. They don't have to be main villains of the show, villain of the week is fine.
Then maybe one of those experiments backfires (or works exactly as it should) and we'll get MCU's own Green Goblin, who would appear go against Spider-Man in his last MCU movie.

It even makes sense for him to be one of the leaders to lead the New Avengers as he was mentor by Tony and fought alongside everyone against Thanos and his army. His battle knowledge and experience is up there. Even if Disney/Marvel and Sony worked out a deal to have Spider-Man as a prominent figure going into phase 5, Tom Hollan stated he doesn’t wish to continue acting as the web swinger. 100% agree. MCU is dying and it’s sad because I was such a huge fan like so many. There was so much anticipation before every film 2016-2019 because you knew you were gonna watch someone great. That magic is now gone. The MCU used to be about character driven stories with great action and cgi plus an underlined story arch. I don’t see any of that in the movies/tv shows today. The only exception was Guardians 3. In my opinion that’s been the best film marvel has done since endgame because it focused on character development and storytelling. If the MCU wants to get back on track, follow that formula. However, that’s the problem with Disney as a whole. Their all about money. It’s become more about putting out as much content as possible as fast as possible to consume without actually any effort to keep the audience engaged they way the MCU became the most successful movie franchise in history. As long as Disney has the wheel, the car will always go off the rails.
