  • The 2024 Range Rover Velar large SUV has a tall task ahead of it: keeping pace with the popular BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE in the sales race, although its sibling, the Land Rover Defender, currently tops the tables in the Australian premium segment. Either way, the first-generation British model has received a major update to keep it fresh.
The big news here is the arrival of the new P400e powertrain option, which is a plug-in hybrid that combines a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine with an electric motor to deliver combined outputs of 297kW of power and 640Nm of torque. Better yet, its 19.2kWh battery pack delivers 69km of WLTP-rated electric-only driving range.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Emily Agar and her family of three spend a week living with the new Range Rover Velar P400e in its Dynamic HSE form to find out what all the PHEV fuss is about. Plus, she deep-dives all the other key changes, including the multimedia upgrades.

These cars are starting to not make sense apart from the brand appeal. They've always been so expensive, not loaded with features and have notorious reliability issues - about time they lifted their game!
